*sighs heavily and grins*

Ok, THIS was a trick question post that REQUIRED a second look in good humor only.... SO, now that I have put down the Hookah and saved what's left of the paoti, I'll add my two cents about the "types" of stones... (clarity is good...breathe in, breathe out...)

There are a host of stones and gems (not to mention metals in raw form) about the main house and the other two houses where the majority of the family lives. These range from Gold and Silver, to Quartz, Amethyst, Pearl (still in a state of unrest whether a Pearl is defined as a stone or mineral..but), Jade and Diamond to mention a few.

These, along with various herbs (not just the one mentioned above) are used for a lot of reasons. Energy and vibration, focusing points etc. General mood enhancement too. Depending on the practices and or application, each has its place...and that depends on what one accepts to believe in the first place.

All humor aside with the word play on stone vs. stoned, would you please give some thought into writing either a journal post or a database post on the subject herein mentioned?

I've heard of people carrying around a stone because of it's specific color. They claim that these stones enhance certain qualities of their lives such as how Aventurine is supposed to enhance intelligence and bring you luck in financial situations. You can find more information here. I've never really understood how a certain type of stone has the ability to enhance certain aspects of life. Or even how they could be used in magic. So this should prove to be an interesting and informative thread.

I have to agree with NeutralLives (even if he didn't offer anyone else a go on his Hookah :P) the use of stones and gems are governed by what you are needing from them. I use a pair of Quartz points on my alter to help channel concentration, Amethyst has a lot of soothing/healing properties for the mind, Garnet is good for aiding in matters of the heart and a personal favorite of mine is a piece of Botswana Agate I like to drop into my pocket from time to time (usually within the first hour or two there's at least one person falling over themselves to give me a gift of some description).

I am quite interested to see what contributions people have to make here though, and how others make use of their stone/gem collections.

Magic has always been about movement and causing change in the real world to me. That said, I believe the stones between my legs to have offered me more assistance in that area than some inanimate thing ever could.

Aside from that musing, I find that meteorite material, such as C. chondrite, works well as an object of meditation for primal works. And it should come as no surprise that for destructive spells, nothing quite beats out sulphur. Opals and moonstones, so long as they are used in tandem with lodestone as a ground, promote better control of acausal and progressive energies.

That is, if you believe they do.

I have quite a collection of stones and gems and some of the best ones I have I got from a Tin Mine in Cornwall where I worked for a short while

I use a crystal bible for reference and as some have said above me, which I agree wholeheartedly with, stones and crystals have different powers and usages depending on what you want to achieve.

Pillars and pointed pillars are good for channeling energy in and out of a altar

some general stones that have lots of generic uses are quartz crystal, amethyst and rose quartz, citrine moonstone all have many uses and are good starting points for those getting into using stones.

My personal favorites are Obsidian which I use for scrying and astral projection and onyx which I use for grounding and protection as it is my birth month power stone

my personal favorite is rose quartz.....I find it helps with acceptance of self and others
amethyst can be used to meditate, visualize or with dreaming
black stones can be used to dispell negativity
An excellent reference is Gem and Metal Magick by Scott Cunningham
I think stones are tools, something to help us focus our intent.
I am very interested in the use of stones in healing and hope to learn more in time.

I also share a love of stones and crystals.I find it is very important to keep them clean and of course charged. To do this I will smudge them, bury them, sit them in sea salt overnight, or set them in the sunlight or moonlight. I love quartz crystal and enjoy rockhounding for my own.Alot of new age shops around the country now sell man made crystals. You can feel the difference in energy when you pick them up. My favorite way to use stones is to lay them on the body of my client's chakras that sometimes need work.If you ever get the chance check out Black Kyanite. It is one of the only stones that doesn't lose charge or obtain any negative energy. As I use it to heal it actually crumbles.Very cool.

I also collect crystals. I use them for a lot of different reasons. There are many great books about Crystal Healing and what crystals mean. I wear certain crystals to help balance my health and for other reasons also.

Jade is good for a money spell or to carry in one's pocket.
Rose and clear quartz are my favorite.
Turboline is good to get rid of negativity.

I use every kind Gaulder, because each has a significant purpose and energy base. I only use raw real stones, as they are the only ones that can hold energy.
I cleanse them per specific guidelines and charge them accordingly for their purpose, using only one stone for each issue.
