Seeming the recent spate of threads on stamping and friends list has annoyed the hell out of me I thought take your own advice woman don’t whine post something constructive so here goes.
Contribution here is a group effort. So how can you contribute?
There are many ways. The first way your going to be able to contribute is by filling in your profile. A very personal effort on your part. How you fill it in is irrelevant to some, very relevant to others. When anyone rates your profile they have their own system of rating. I find its easier not to get on your high horse about it. Here are some pointers though. Details about you are always interesting. Why you are at the Rave, how did you get here? Does the term Vampire mean anything to you already or are you a complete novice on the subject. Some of your likes and dislikes maybe. I have found that many do not like to see a lot of quizzes on your profile. Some like to see RL pics. Some like to see background and music on a profile. Some don’t really care and will rate you 10 anyway. In the main menu under Member articles you will find some on HTML for Whelps. All the information you need to help you make a good readable profile is available in site. Mind you for those who do need extra advise.. The words I want to die or if you want to know just aren’t helpful and don’t inspire anyone to want to know you. Also don’t try and be clever and catch people out by saying don’t stamp at the bottom of your profile if it means that much to you put it at the top. The simple fact is some people do not read profiles. Why make an issue out of it, it makes you stressed and they still don’t care. Having a list at the end of your profile of those locked out doesn’t humiliate anyone but yourself.
Read the VR Manual. That helps contribute because then you don’t have to take up the time of those helping run the site by asking questions that don’t need to be asked. Reading the VR manual also helps you improve your pages viewed rating. Also you have your F.A.Q. Yes frequently asked questions answers all of those pesky questions that you need to know straight off.
Blood and Water is a cartoon strip…very funny and is there to be enjoyed.
Banners _ Already pre made HTML coding to add to any sigs you have elsewhere. How do these help? Well you contribute by helping advertise the sight and you get benefits because anyone joining from clicking on your banner gets you referral points if they level up.
Profiles – Rate these. I’m not going to say how I think you should rate profiles I don’t care how you do it for one. Rating profiles can help you make friends because if you do read you may notice someone of a like mind and decide to message them. Rating is a necessary evil to me. Rating profiles can encourage others to rate you and when you’re in a House that’s important as your over all rating contributes to the House score. Another reason why a few words about how you want to die is just not helpful. Lol.
Portfolios – A place to show off your family or your talents. Also these are rateable.
Journals – A place to have more about you. Your poetry your stories your rants. Not rateable but enjoyable.
Member articles. When you reach level 16 you can submit articles. The rules for submitting articles can be found here and are quite simple. A great way to contribute to the site I think. I’d like to see more people posting articles instead of expanding their energies whining about stamping perhaps.
The forum – many ways to contribute here from well thought out threads to humour. For those really interested in the realities of vampirism I have to say VR is second to none as there are many who are very informative. If you can weed out the myth from the reality you can really learn, even those of us who think we know it all already.
Houses and Covens
When you reach a certain level you may be snagged for one of these. You have no choice in the matter but you make new friends. You get to play favour games and you get more involved with VR…That’s why you’re here right?
The Database is something you can contribute by submitting things vampiric that interest you. A book for example. Or maybe you’re in a society or you know of a radio station etc…
For those wanting more Premium membership is the way to go. It really is better and not expensive.
Oh and don’t forget the Hoodies…Im still hoping for underwear lol..
So don’t whine people. get involved. Whining is for wieners I believe they say in America
Although I like my profile quote best "Stupidity isn't punishable by death. If it was, there would be a hell of a population drop."
Very good suggestions, but people will be people. They'll always going to do what they want.
On the other hand it's normal to dislike something and often is seen as whining.I see nothing wrong by saying what you dislike.
But some want to whine just for the sake of it.
I agree some whine just for the sake of it. People will be people i agree, ive been saying it a few times lately. I just dont see why whining about stamps and friends lists happens for just that reason. What you gonna do about it? I cant see how it can be policed
Heh yeah and there are more than 5000 users on this site it's impossibile to satisfy them all.
And most of the time work doesn't get appriciated.
And it's their where there's the difference between whining, cause whining is just not appriciating anything and whine over things that can't be controlled or do nothing about it, while when you say something you dislike and propose suggestions for it.
Anyway I'll stop with my whining now :P
good points. i think i will definitely use your suggestions to become more active. thanks
You have my deep appreciations of your attitude Sky. Such a pity that some others are not so willing to help develop themselves and this community and would rather posts nonsensical rubbish, or focus on merely playing the status game...
As with all things which become popular, there will be those that seek to undermine it, either because it becomes a threat to their own popularity and success, or because they are no more than small minded and petty trolls, gaining satisfaction from annoyance and being 'a rebel'.
Such learnings that come from those that truly care, are an enormous boon for the minds of those who are willing to understand them and for the reputation of this site.
:)
they jsut wanna whore them selfs about, get seen and added
im with you sky .. why bitch what does get you.. just more pissed off people. i only crab at people if they crab at me first. and that has happened but you are right there is so much here that it blew my mind when i first got here and i am just now starting to open up to the site in the line of doing more ... so bravo sky , bravo....
"As with all things which become popular, there will be those that seek to undermine it, either because it becomes a threat to their own popularity and success, or because they are no more than small minded and petty trolls, gaining satisfaction from annoyance and being 'a rebel'."
Stabb, I have always appreciated and enjoyed your intelligent and thoughtful additions to this forum. However, the above statement seems to imply opinions are not valued. I personally do not feel if I disagree with something it is due to its being a threat to my own popularity.
How can people have spirited, intellectual discourse if everyone agrees all of the time?
You made a very good point Sky, I agree with every bit of it. Keeping in mind that this is first & foremost a community site, It's never bad to engage in dicussions however difficult they might be, it helps enlighten those who have their own vision on certain issues, stimulating others to think, irrelevantly if they agree or not & even if don't even bother otherwise.
I don't think it's bad seeing this as a collective community effort which must be appretiated, headed by some wonderful persons who are willing to listen, remembering that contributions must be motivated by serious constructive intentions, yes any reason other then that is "whining".
I think it's fine the way it is, VR will always be a yule present to me.
Although it would be funny if the people who crossed its rules, could be punished by slow painful torture. It would be even better if everyone on VR could watch...!
OI like this post Sky all of that is true and premium really is worth it.
Well done Sky! *gives a rousing round of applause! You make your profiles and stay at vampire rave what it is .Either buckle up and become involved how every you can or else deal with lack of ppl getting to notice and take an avid interest in you .Theres so much to do here and to become more involved in.How could one not want to partake of all that lays at their feet and a profile and portfolio is the beginning of showing who you truly are the rest follows suit shortly after..All I say is keep it real to who you truly are and don't put on False airs about yourself in your profiles most ppl can smell treachery far off hehe
wow! very deep topic indeed. There will be those that whine no matter what we say or do, and those of us that are more concerned with letting people know about us. Forget the whiners, consentrate on the rest of us. Like yourself Sky and others here, we want a place of friendship and helpfulness. I do agree that the contributions that we can give are greater than the dripple I have seen on alot of pages. That is the key though...we have to give an example for those that have pages of dribble and whine, when they see more really good and true profiles, they will want to have a nice one too.Yes, there will be those die hards that will never change, and those are the ones who will be left behind.
Well i hope no-one takes this as me trying to shmuzzle my way into any good books.
I was just tired of all the griping. Realised i was doing it myself too so thought okay take your own advice.
Some articles and threads here are truly wonderful. It seems a shame to focus on stamping and profiles.
We should have more congartulations to the likes of MRD, Vlad Voivoide, Evangius,LordOfNoctemAeternus to name but a few who regulaly post quality threads. Wether you agree with them or not they and others here give you food for thought.
I can only say to people go read the articles. There are some amazing pieces in there.
There truly are many things to be learnt and many people who have yet to step forward and offer their knowledge. I look forward to more happy reading.
Nicely said Sky...I started out right off the bat (excuse the pun) with becoming a premium member for a year . . . and slowly but surely adding to both profile and portfolio . . . .
sigh as to the whiners....do you want some cheese wtih that whine?
So . . . whining here that Sky's post hurt my feelings would be a bad idea?
Truly, though, I applaud Sky. Well said, well said.
You know the majority of us do that anyway, if you want to level up it generally helps.
Stabb,
I thank you for your clarifications and your points are well-taken. No worries, I was not offended, I wanted only to be certain I wasn't misinterpreting your words.
Your friendship is valued by me, as are many other friendships I have forged on this site. Indeed, it is a disappointment when someone comes under the guise of friendship but in truth bring only their personal agenda.
"Beware of Greeks bearing gifts" *grins*
Just adding a thought to this topic, but one excellent way to contribute is sticking around VR once you join. Obviously a person will join the site they're interested in, but they don't always stick around. I haven't found a single reason not to stick to VR. Every person that I've talked to on this site so far(and there's been quite a few) has been very open-minded and has "taken me in" so-to-speak as a friend right from the very beginning. I feel like I belong here thanks to the great community this site has produced. Everyone should do the same in helping Whelps feel that they belong and are indeed welcomed here.
Very well written :-) sky... I agree , instead of bitching about things do something constructive to amend the situation....I love VR everyone on here is great... Its fun to be a part of something and do my best to contribute...
I found that an interesting read and hopefully I have done enough to my profile for the time being. I just joined yesterday and it is still under construction, but thank you for the helpful tips
Well said indeed.
Your beautiful as always Sky. ;)
Now if we can have 1000 or 2 copies made
and tacked or nailed on some peoples foreheads... hay jk.
I have to mention other things:
Keep the drama out of the vampbox
Leve rude messages in the journal or in private, not in the rating,it doesn't make you look cool
Don't complain about the rules or you accept them or leave
I think I contribute enough to VR. I help people without PM to improve their profile, I host their songs, cause they have no other way. I just remodeled and rewrote my profile. I try to make friends and to learn new things about different topics. I like VR how it is. So I can just agree with whats been said.
Thanks for the post! I picked up some helpful hints from just reading it.
I only became premium so I can put some HTML on there, though I suck at that as well, but slowly it's getting there... And I've tried the tack in the forehead thing, it hurt LOL
I agree...less whining...more opinions and rate rate rate...!!!
Feel the need to add again:
If you disagree or dislike something, say why and propone suggestions, there's no need to be rude.By beig rude it will get you no where. You can't expect respect and be taken seriously if you are rude.
Very good info. But I still don't know how to have a good thread that doesn't end up RIA
Here here...I try to actually allude to a persons profile while rating...that way they know i've actually read it and have absorbed the gist...
good way to balance out the negativity thats been going around in here. i admit im guilty of it too but seeing someone having such a positive attitude helps greatly
My current year membership doesn't expire until October. I'll definitely re-up for another year - may just screw it and go lifetime.
im argreeable to! Id like to add this is the first sites that I enjoy been at everybody is so friendly and helpful ive only been a member for 3 days and Im addicted I feel I belong and Im welcomed. I have been through many profiles and majority of them are very interesting and had a lot of time and effort put into them. Ive never really been a big profile reader in the past but here I m checking everything out everybody has lots of character and interesting reads!! VR rocks!!
i had to bring this back up....good for the new people to see it
bravo!
i am always happy to see when people put up "how too's" instead of "why" threads.
sometimes its the ones that whine that dont make much of a contrabution to the site (i didnt say everyone i said some)
we all can do our part to enjoy the site and make it continue to be the great site that it is...
we should feel lucky that there is such a site that we can come to and have a say, a place where we get choices and gifts to enjoy..
Thanks for the great info. I totally agree with all said! VR trully is a great place to be!
In all honesty the reason why I joined was to learn and to share my ideas with others to form a better idea on certain things....
i think that although some will not take your suggestions that it is very considerate of you to make them. because that makes you part of the solution and not part of the problem
I'm glad this excellent thread by Sky is still going strong!!
the more people pool thier knowledge the better this site will become. with each debate, with every word spoken and evulated the website grows and adapts. to new people, to new theories, to new fads...
contributing is my little way of insureing my imortality along with the site.
I like all the ideas, thoughts and suggestions. I like the layout of how it is here. There is no mistaking everyone that works on this site, has put a lot of time and effort into it. Those that create profiles, should also take the time. I enjoy the reading of the threads. Thank you for the thread.
Thank you Sky for posting this. And yes, I think you are right everyone should read everything there is concerning this site and contribute their own thoughts and ideas into VR.
Well done!
Awesome suggestions, especially for someone as new as myself. I really don't think those on this site are aware of how rare the Rave is. Now where else to you get such a place to express yourself, and meet people, build lasting relationships, and not pay for it. This site has inspired me, as have the people I have met here.
Thank you for your thoughts. Maybe enough of the new people will read it and get a much better understanding of the site.
Very good call Sky! :) I can't wait to add a couple of pieces of VR clothing to my wardrobe :)
If anyone has anything they would like to see added to the Vampire Database, you can message me directly with a link. I'll do my best to get them added for you.
I think what you said is very true and more people should contribute and make VR an even better place. I try my hardest now, but yeah @_@
I agree once again with Sky and VampyricRose. There are so many things here of interest. I find the people here for the most part, the ones that don't whine and cry, or play drama queen. Are for the most part decent people. I am not a people person, but I would gladly meet up with a good sum of VR members.
everyone is going to complain. not everyone will get what they want. but great suggestions anyways.
