I was thinking about beginnings, beliefs and such, and my brain wondered (as it will) into thinking about epiphanies.
Not entirely sure if this is the right forum, but I suspect most people will explain the moment they realised they are a vampire, so I thought “What the heck, put it up here!”
I am interested to hear about a pivotal moment in your life, a defining point if you will, which makes you who you are.
I shall start with a fairly innocuous one.
A good few years ago a good friend of mine and I were steadily getting badly drunk in a local biker bar one lazy afternoon with nothing much better to do.
We got onto religion (as you do) and I said I didn’t really know what I was. My mate proceeded to explain he had recently discovered Druidry and went on to explain the basic tenets of the belief. It slowly dawned on me he was describing a path I’d followed for most of my life without having a label. I said as much, cleared up some details which differed (which is hardly surprising, I don’t think two druids have exactly the same beliefs anywhere in the world!) and without really a big fan fair I had a name for my beliefs.
Not exactly pivotal but certainly a label defining moment for me!
NEXT!!!!
It's an awakening. Not just vampires go through one. If you were meant to realize what you are, whether it be a vampire, or even a Druid, for that matter, you will eventually wake up to it. You happened to do so through your friend.
Sometimes awakenings can be almost retroactive as well!
You slowly change, and one day look back at your path and realise how many steps you have taken! The realisation could be compared to an awakening, but in real terms you have slowly risen from slumber, and your just realising you have been awake for some time!
I find more and more that things I have taken for granted for most of my life, are some how amazing to other people!
We humans are too damn good at making the marvelous into the ordinary! :-)
I don't quite see how that would be retroactive, really.
My tapping into my Wiccan heritage when the night produced a blood red moon was certainly interesting, as I had never come up with realy looking at the moon until that time.
What I mean is sometimes you can "awake" to the realisation you have actually been "awake" for some time :-)
And blood red moons are fantastic, I have seen an Ice Blue moon once, and boy that was odd! :-)
i'm not a vampire, so i can't write about when i found that out, but then again your asking for defining moments in our lives, not just awakingings?
i remember walking down the street, and the sun was so bright and the wind was very cold.. i remember that...
i remember noticing that someone was following me and i remember being grabbed around the throat and dragged into an alley...
i remember fighting as he was lifting my shirt... i remember thinking that the wind was really cold against my bare stomach
then i remember him bleeding and his blood and skin under my nails. i remember police running in and asking how i did that. i remember the long scars across his face and the ones on his chest... i don't remember how i did it...
as a psy vamp you don't realise that you are or your not awake until late, when your all grown up.. i realisez few months ago, but i'm a psy vamp for like 10 years now
i don't know how it is with blood vamps
I think of defining moments as being a sign that you can learn and grow, however you are meant to. Think of two people having the same experience- say a death of a close mutual friend. One person sees that as a sign that life is short and decides to live life to the fullest, while the other closes off from life- deciding to become hermit-like.
I've had a few defining moments in my life. At the risk of sounding schmaltzy- I would have to say that the birth of my daughter, my first child, was a huge defining moment for me. I realized that everything I do, now matter how big or small, would affect her.
It is a true test of character to let yourself become a product of your experiences, your defining moments and make something positive out of them.
I realize this had nothing to do with vampirism, but since my daughter's 13th birthday is coming up- I'm feeling introspective. lol
A definite defining moment for me was my first Beltaine festival. I hadn't been officially studying long. Even though I have always known I was different I never had a name for it. When I arrived home from my first Beltaine festival I knew that I was definitely on the right path. After that I started seeing faeries and was able to hear them speak to me. Of course my husband at the time thought I was nuts but when the faeries come to you, you listen! At that point I was forced to make a choice. To stay with a man that I loved and suppress what had just been awoken within me because he didn't understand what I was going through or to follow my path and leave him. I decided to leave him. I know it was the right decision. Even though life hasn't been all peaches and cream since I know that it is all part of the journey.
If you have them. You can choose to act, or not act upon them. It is up to you to make them happen.
I think THE defining moment in my life was the day I earned the right to wear the Marine Corps emblem and to be addressed as Marine!
I can relate you your expriance Druidic, one summer up in the woods I went camping with my father and another friend of mine. One afternoon the conversation turned to religion and what my father followed, he is a druid. He has been, as far as I know, been on that path my enitre life. But neither of my parents ever really talked about religion or what they followed.
As my father told my friend what being a druid was about, I realized this was the path I have been on most of my adult life but didn't have a label for it. Not that I was looking for a label. That was a very important conversation in my life.
I think the next moment is going to be when I graduate next month from college. I waited a long time to go back to school but now I am nearly done and will be on a new path...
~A~
I wouldn't say I had one definite defining moment in my life, of course, because we are not just made up of one major event in our life...many things add up together to form our personas...anyway...I will list my most appreciated moment...
When I'm with my lover, things are near perfection...I just look at her, and everything that has happened in my life seems to have led me to her...it's wonderful to just gaze at her and take in the vision I see before me...it's as if she has no idea what she has saved me from, and I could never explain in words what she means to me...
Basically, she defines my life...
All my life, I knew I was not like everyone. I at the time had no idea, nor were there labels. I knew what interested me, drew me, held my attention, excited me. I have always as far back as I can recall always, had candles, incenses. When I was old enough to purchase my own Tarots. A new world up for me. I grew but was never able to practice, learn or study. Then about 5 yrs. ago, I was awaken as well, not only into my Vampire life, but as a Wiccan as well. I have always wanted to practice but I was not able to, nor was I able to ask questions. I like some had differences from the spouse, and left a marriage. Here I am and I am happy with the choices I have made thus far. I am awake and proud of it.
I have been awaken as a vampire for a while now but i am still realising who and what i will become in my life here...My search continues.

I don't think anyone would (or could) write down all your defining moments, but just one or two, the act of writing them down will bring them back to memory as well, and help you live them over again, and become freshly enlivened!
I dunno, I can't exactly say what age I was back then..it's like a transition (for me at least)
Like from reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys (all of it) and Archie Comics and Goosebumps then to Terry Pratchett, Stephen King and Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton. Also with music, from (haha) Bubble gum songs and pop corn movies too.
I can safely say ( I THINK) that I got bored with the 'mundane stuff' and I kind of wanted to explore something new, from the mundane to something like THIS, the goth, vampirism which of course IS an enigma. (Eh?)
So, THERE. (LOL!)
At an early age 3 i believe my mother met a native american indian. For many years i use to watch him meditate, always seeing a while glow around his body. At age 3 and 4 i was unaware of what i was seeing. I asked what this was and was explained by him that it was his aura. I tried to mimic him and through his teachings i learned meditation and why i always felt as tho there was someone around me. I knew of spirits and other strange things, and my mom passed it off as my over active imagination. At age 7 i truely was awakened to my psychic abilities when i realized something bad was going to happen that night and then in the middle of the night standing there in the dark i watched this man commit suicide. At that moment I seen his spirit raise from his body and i knew there was more to us than just life and death. This opened my eyes to a whole new possibility and i have followed my own path and learned much more about my psychic abilities than i could have ever imagined and i believe that moment was my awakening into a whole other world.
That was a very sweet romantic post AshNight.
*smiles*
I think my defining moment was when I realized what injustice was . It was when I found courage and that was at a very young age.
Well... I never had a "realized I was a vampire" moment myself... no offense to anyone who misreads that... just that even before I was conscious of what I was doing, my being had begun feeding from the moment I was born... in small doses as was needed to survive. My 3 years after birth were characterized by issues, most notably the birth-defect of a rupture in my septum. I was what was known as a 'blue' baby... and was supposed to be a miracle when I underwent open heart surgery under Dr Gersony in NY back in 1981.... but I know what it was... My shell was weak... because it wasn't what kept me alive.
That being said, it's difficult when you are a psychic feeder AND therianthropic... I love wolves (duh, i know) and most animals... but half the time (when my parasitic side comes up to feed) they freak around me and skim to somewhere far from me, obviously uncomfortable. Of course, I had no idea how much of an issue that could be working for an animal shelter!!!
I think everyone has defining moments, so to speak, but not everyone recognizes them. Fear of what is happening may blind some to the truth. Fear of the unknown. Narrow-mindedness. Judgmentalism. To move forward, we must be willing to see what is before us. Be accepting.
