Does anyone ever strugle with this idea: An independent reality in the ordinary physical sense can neither be ascribe to the phenomenon nor to the agencies of observation. It feels dark at times to me. Just asking; please don't RIP it or tell me it does not belong here. Just comment if you want or ignore it if you want. HMMMMM maybe that is what this is all about.

if it is the reality that you live, then why does it make a difference?
~W~
None of us are in your head with you. Live how you want to live and forget everybody else.
That being said, for those of us who haven't completely disassociated from this reality quite yet, you need to still put in your time and pitch in with this world.
We define our own realities, however we must be mindful that we still need to pay our dues.
seems someone with such a complex has not developed any redeemable, practical skills.
an intro to a disassociation (as mentioned above).
curious, what brought this idea up?
I always find discussions of the unreality of perceived Reality to be most intriguing... so long as we are careful not to attempt defining that greater Reality.
As I have argued and opined on numerous occasions previously, which has caused many here to disparage my remarks for refusing to jump to premature conclusions about greater Realities without evidence beyond belief alone, ... we are incapable at present to properly perceive much less then go on to actually defining Reality given that we can only perceive an extremely narrow range of sensual stimuli within only three dimensions.
It is the question of what Reality truly is that truly fascinates me most of all. For this reason I consider "The Matrix" to be my all-time favorite movie in that it so wonderfully and amazingly provides us with a modern-day fable, an allegory worthy of Plato and Jonathan Bach, two true visionaries who likewise provided classic allegories that cause us to question our reality and to see beyond such to our true potentials.

Reality is what we make it, yet so many seem to believe they can do as they will without consequences.
There are always consequences.
These are the very same people who aspire to greater learning yet ignore the obvious consequences. Particularly when the consequences are...shall we say, somewhat
"Less the palatable."
Ever since I was a child, I've always had some strange thoughts about how my reality may differ to the reality of others.
Do I percieve the color blue as others see it?
Does my brain register all the things it should do?
How would I know if something was not the norm, if I can never experience other realities myself and never play an active part in them.
Life is too short for "what if?"s like that; I've resigned myself to simply live the life I live and accept my reality for whatever it may be.
Really interesting topic and I hope I made some sense there :)
Never give up your individuality and conform to the crowd.
but it certainly helps to be able to APPEAR to conform to the crowd...makes one less of a target.
this thread really reminds me of the matrix. it also goes back to that old college conversation (usually happening while we drank too much) of "what if all of this is only a dream" or "what if we are all characters in someone else s dream?"
i do agree tho that life is too short to really worry about it. its unknowable but interesting just the same. like are we all living on an electron of an atom which we are seeing as our world, or if the big bang was the beginning, then what was there before that....

An individuals reality is based on how they preserve it with their senses.
When you look at your hand you see a solid piece of flesh and bone but your hand is not a solid. The skin is made up of blood cells the blood is made up of molecules which are made up of atoms and ultimately everything is made up of energy. None of which is a solid state.
In a car accident time can see m to slow down for some and speed up for other depending on how the brain decides to process the event.
The human experience is different for everyone and only the basic elements of our existence are a constant from one person to the next.
In the end you truly are the way you see yourself.
That is why I tend to Actuality, rather then the Philosophy Stone of Reality.
dabbler - That is why I tend to Actuality, rather then the Philosophy Stone of Reality.
TruTV Slogan - "Not Reality. Actuality."

If one only has their own version of reality with which to compare and contrast the legitimacy of such reality, then how do you define "reality"? Is it the presence of something by which the occurrence can be proven i.e witnesses or a physical manifestation? Or is it the instinctual confirmation from within that convinces one to accept the particular experience as being "real"? I, personally, have had several experiences that have led me to alter my perception of what is and is not possible or "real". I, of course, am skeptical to a point, but openminded enough to at least consider the possibility that my "reality" may be just as subjective as my "normalcy".
As human, we all have different reality and perception of our surrounding. But, the question is, what is real and is just part of our imagination?
Hehe the eternal rhetorical question.
If I pinch myself, I feel hurt, then I know for sure that I am real.
However when once I said this, one asked me: and how can you know if pain is real and not an illusion?
Heh....
There are many ways your reality can differ from one person to another... but it all has to deal with your mental and spiritual state... physical reality will always be the same... if you have an apple in your hand... your mind might tell you it is something else... but it will always be an apple... but your mental state will determine where YOU are.... so yes... everyone to an extent has a different reality.
Creative people are often living in their own crazy little worlds.
Depressed people always see the negative in everything.
Positive people see the good in everything... often times blindly.
So...yeah. Your reality will not be mine... and vice versa...
But YOU can make your reality what you wish it to be...
that's the power of the human mind.
huh? greater reality?? there's only one. like there's only one truth. percieved truth, percieved reality, there's all to do with self.. not the many. the many cannot see as you see, or believe, only you.
