Vampire myths go back thousands of years and occur in almost every culture around the world. The variety of other-world bloodsuckers is almost endless.
Our modern concept of the vampire still retains threads, such as blood drinking, return from death, preying on humans at night, etc in common with the Eastern European myths. However many things we are familiar with. the wearing of evening clothes, capes with tall collars, turning into bats, etc are much more recent inventions.

so the two forms of vampirism that seem to float about. the awakened vs. the imortal or turned which one is more documented through history?.... i think many awakened might have been large members of historical significance if you put all the pieces together. the turned seem to stay out of the limelight

yes i also feel like u mrd but u know wht i hv seen in my country in villages particularly whr people say tht some of the old ladies r vampires n they do look quite different too from us a bit.They say they cause harm to small kids living thr .i know science wont agree to this n even i agree to this as well but honestly i hv seen some of these kinda ladies who r really different n live in their own world .they dont even recognise their own children n family.n move around jungles even in night.i am not sure tho 100% wht they r.

Vampire myth/folklore and the modern-day vampire are 2 totally different things... I wish they had different names. Blood and energy seem to be their only commonalities-

I enjoy myth/folkore- all the movies I can watch about such sensationalism... it's because I enjoy fiction. I quite frankly love what new turns writers will take next. Of course I do not believe any of them. The problem comes in when people do believe it- I mean... I can't count how many threads have been started here with people believing Dracula was Judas simply because they watched Dracula 2000... or the war between lycans and vampires since Underworld (like I said in a previous thread: the 'lycan' term was very rarely used until this series)- the list goes on. I wish people could just enjoy fiction for what it is, and stop blurring the lines of fantasy and reality.

All this I say- yet I remain friends with those who do blur it all :) To each their own- this is just what I believe. I believe in humans who enjoy blood drinking and energy absorption- that are just that.

I agree with imagesinthewords...The problem is the name/word Vamapire, it has to many random things associated with it...Maybe that would be a good forum thread in itself...What would be a better agreeable word/title that better represnts what many Truely are...?

Enigma and Images - whether or not we call those who drink blood or feed off energy vampires, do you feel that the connotation of being one is looked at ascance or negatively by groups in the 'fringe' or underground religions? With the use of things like donors has there been more understanding of late?

One commonality between all the societies about vampires is that they prey on the weak. Why not just call them bullies? Would it make our children want to be a bully or feel they are weak? The myth of the vampire preying on people and destroying them or turning them into a vampire could have been started to teach children a lesson not to pick on the weak. Who knows how these stories come about but many stories are carried from one society to the other as we try to learn from each other. As rumors go from one person to the next things change as different people have different perceptions. Couldnt the differences in the stories from one society to the other be the same as a rumor with a different perception?

Vampire is one of those words that is used to broadly. at this point your average person uses Vampire just to mean a person on the night...

I disagree Aridai, It's not about being a bully...Yes these different groups are stronger than most, but it isn't about that type of mentality...It about energy and the use of it...

Aridai - so in your opinion, there is still a large segment of even the underground religions that look at vampires as parasites.

Enigma - I think Aridai was referring to how a vampire is perceived not how a vampire perceives itself but I could be wrong there. I don't think vampires look at themselves as bullies but there may be a portion of the world that feels that way.

scareeme, It sounds to me that you are discribing a disorder called alsimers(sorry if this is mispelled) It will cause short temr memory loss which can lead to other problems. This would also explain the night time wandering.

That being said an true for what we call normal society, (thos of us with computers an other technoligy) but this is not true for 3rd world countrys. Most of thes countrys or societes still belive in vodoo an other forms of the supernaturial. there are tribes in the lower parts of the globe that still belive that by eating ther dead relitives thay consume there history, so in closing wil what Mr.D said is true, it is always up to how advanced you are an what tools are at your desposiel

an befor i get a bunch of commints about the vodoo comment, i was on ly using it as a comparison, i was claming that its fake or any thing, i wouldnt shit on any ones belifes

so with vampirism as it is in current day could we not use the term dhampire which through most mythology is part human part vampire. none of the super nasty mythological drawbacks ie bursting into flames in sunlight or repeled by crosses etc... wouldnt dhampire be more appropriate title?

Actually the bite that turns vampires into vampires is actually upon the nape. I don't have to explain to vampires where the nape is, but I remember reading a Dostoyeski novel where the character, who was a writer wore a really long collar, he hung his head, this young writer, ashamed for being what he was, a vampire with a high collar. Fyodor is a writer like Tolstoy from the Russian genre, but more psychological. He followed Tolstoy pure plots and developed the aspect of psychological understanding into the Russian genre.

I agree Enigma, I don't believe that vampyre is about being a bully, It's about the use of energy and absorption of that energy from numerous places and persons.

I find it frustrating that most of the Vampire websites I visit have different ideas as to what a true vampire is, some of the definitions are polar opposites. It's difficult to distinguish who to believe and who is bullsh*ting everyone!

Sometimes it seems that the ideas of Vampirism is as different as each of us are from one another. There is no handbook on how to be a Vampire but there are many books on the ideals of what a Vampire should be.

It is really amazing how the vampires have been a part of almost every countries mythology! And i think that if there were such creatures remaining then they would not be very open in their endevours. But to have so many different stories and views on vampirism you have to admit that there must be truth to it.

You want to know what the truth about vampires is?

Well, as in all things truth is the most difficult thing to comprehend. I will tell you this, if someone gives you a new definiton of something, with no half truth in it, like from the civilization we are in, it will seem like a lie because we have been brainwashed all our lives to think differently.

There fore when someone tells you something that is too good to be true, that seems so wrong, and so skewed, there is probably more truth in what that person is saying than if they looked up the word in the dictionary.

Why?

Well, if truth is as outrageous as I maintain that it is, when someone gives you something that causes such outrage that it even has to be censored on a vampire website, who would try to pass off such truth for lies and expect it to be believed? Therfore by logic, the more unbelievable something is the more truth there is contained.

I am not going to post my theory of what a vampire is until I reach the rank or become a premium member so I can post an article on it on this website.

There is no sense documenting something in a refutable state when forums just don't really get to the purpose of the role we all try to achieve. We want to impact each other.

I dunno maybe it is just me but it seems like a lot of people just read the first box of the thread and then react to that, or they don't really process the feedback buildup of coming to a concensus. Then the thread gets broke by people posting things that have been said before, and ideas get buried and people don't learn. I don't know why I am writing this, when all the people who invest time in developing a thread, are bushwacked and robbed of all the energies they put into something by the fake posters who don't follow along.

for months now I have been watching you fail at trying to sound all mysterious about this so called truth, not once have you actually said what it is.... and yet you constantly allude to being censored about it.
you say you are waiting till you can post articles....well that i can understand since normally even your short posts are the length of shortstories...but if you are so sure that you are being censored...you might want to read the FAQs regarding article posting.....articles are subject to approval before they are added....
so Like i said previously...the only truth you have to show is that which you BELEIVE you posess...it doesn't make it "the" truth....only "A" truth...yours....which may or may not agree with the "truth" of others....

I agree. there are so many different things posted from the past that it is actually hard to distinguish between what is real and what is not. most ppl who have come accustomed to certain beliefs tend to go on that. but then there is ones that never have had to have the same thing repeated in there family over and over again to know fact form fiction. it is hard to decide on what is fact and what is not. especially if you were never there to witness the actual happening.

whenever I post an alternative definition of Vampirism Daermon the whole thread gets deleted. Whether it is a new def of blood, immortality, powers, the medical science of it all

I understand that we have all been brought up with the Hollywood version of Vampires, and we are all confused, if we were not trying to figure something out together, none of us would even visit this page.

Knowing is stronger than believing Daermon. I use science as a tool for determining truth. I consider the source. If the "n" (population sample) is large enough and the experiment has been repeated enough times and found still to be true, then that is truth.

When I develop a "vaccine" for vampires and the doctors pull me to the side and say this is new, and how did you do that? Or if I haven't had a cold for 8 years, then I am up to something. When I stun medical science, and they talk to me in private, I turn the tables on the doctors in the psyche ward wing.
It keeps getting reinforced over time. I wasn't going to come out with my vampire cure until I published in my book, but then they brought the coal miner out of a coma with it, so I posted it under my potions. I told the doctors to look into it. It took 8 years, but eventually, what I invented came into practice, now it is a part of medicinal history.

When I keep getting reinforced by the medical profession, even my small "n" population sample can be taken seriously when I came up with it in one night. Now there is two of us, the coma guy walking and me with the densist brain on the planet.

Truth can also be obtained from personal experience. I know if you see a ufo I won't believe you, so if you don't feel the truth that I feel about vampirism, then you won't believe what I know for sure. I cannot convince you. So I stopped trying, especially when everyone is so blinded by Hollywood versions of anything sci fi, they never realise that such monster states are only symbolic and metaphorical states of true existence for humans on planet P.

The human experience can be altered. In the alternative reality, we do gain incredible powers. Once we have the power of knowledge from the forum threads, then we can go about searching other people's profiles to hook up with and attract with the power of our incredible brains. Until then we will read the forums in search of the truth about vampires. I don't know why they axe my posts whenever I strike a nerve of new understanding about archaic concepts, like Civilization doesn't think we can handle the truth.

As a former teacher you ought to be able to understand the idea of proper structure in an essay form, even if it was phys ed that you taught....to get your teaching degree you had to have passed high school english

but as to the rest...this is still belief....
all truth is simply belief....hundreds of years ago the "known truth" stated that the world was flat.
even with science there is the factor that what was good science in the past can be proven wrong when viewed from a different angle...
