While surfing -- I came across this site that discusses many parameters of "witch" culture. I thought it was interesting enough to share with all of you and hope you give it a look-see.

So here is my question: Please note: The paragraphs below NOT in yellow are still quoted from the text. I do not take credit for more than the curiousty of the paranormal. Witches brew or grandmas chicken noodle soup? Is there a difference? Can science conceive of an answer or are we searching in the dark for "powers and knowledge" dilluted and lost??

My apologies for teasing with a gist of what this information has to offer...Below is a direct quote from the home age of the website, It should give an idea of what topics can be gleaned and expands further into conjuring and consequences, the history of withcraft and even famous grimoires!

"A spell is a spoken or written formula which, in the act of magic or divination, is intended to create or change a particular course of events. The belief in spells and their employment dates back to antiquity. Spells have become an integral part of various religious and magical practices. Their methods vary accordingly from culture to culture, but all spells function on ritual activity.

The spell itself consists of words or incantation (sometimes called charms or runes). The ritual is a prescribed set of actions performed while the spell is being recited. For example, the ancient Egyptians believed words were so powerful that speaking them would achieve the desired result. Certain words and Names on Power were essential in Egyptian magic and had to be pronounced correctly and with the proper intonation.

There are various types of spells. Some are beneficial while others are harmful. Some claim they may be worked on man and beast alike. Their purposes are limitless including healing, love, success, money, fertility, longevity, protection against disaster, illness, misfortune and evil, exorcism of ghosts and spirits, victory in war and over an enemy, truth in divination, weather control and accomplishment of supernatural feats. When casted against enemies spells may be used to bring about illness, destruction, loss of love, impotence, loss of property, failure and even death.

A person can cast a spell for himself, or direct it toward another person. A positive spell is called a blessing. A negative spell usually known as a hex or curse. Archaic terms for spells include bewitchment and enchantment."

A binding spell is on that is casted with the intention of preventing harm or disaster, or to stop someone from performing a particular act such as a murder or rape, or something as inoffensive as spreading gossip.

seriously though... i do think the power of the mind is incredibly strong. whether it is someone who believes themselves to be casting a spell or a priest who believes to turning wine into blood... if you believe it, then perhaps you make it true (atleast to you).

thinking about it, i might even think a placebo was just as magical as advil. sometimes the placebo has just about the same results as the actual medicine because you believe it to be helpful and then in return it allieviates your headache.

Witchcraft is something you have to believe in and if you don't believe then it will not work. But if your craft is true and you work it well then your spell will also work. Your emotions should be on love while you are working your spells.

I guess everyone thinks of witchcraft when they think of magick. Although Witches generally practice a bit different than Wiccans as they don't follow the Rede of 3-fold and its older. There are many forms of magick that don't involve religion or actual spells such as you speak about. Many different forms of Wicca nowadays since the time of Gardner as well. So its a hard question to answer. I like the old throw them in the freezer routine for binding. Its more of a witchcraft idea but a fun one, lol...

I do basic chaos following Spare rather than say Pete Carroll who is too academic about it. I create sigils or mantras and charge them and that is that. I have used Hoodoo as well and tried various things but I find a simple sentence of desire and sigil creation really easy and it has worked but I don't do magick all the time. I only use it when necessary in an overt manner. Everyone is magick to some degree...thoughts create happenings. Words create happenings. The newest research in the area of Hado has shown this to be true. Experiments done with words and DNA by Russian scientists have shown the power of the word...so be careful what you say...you might just get what you asked for and that's the Monkey's Paw effect.

A binding spell is a fine line that can be use for good and also for bad. So it comes back to what the oerpose is of the person intent is for.

As far as the chicken soup.. lol. True magick, the kind that is considered the old ways.... Chicken soup is a spell. You put your love and caring into making the soup in hopes to help heal a sick friend of family member. Most people dont understand that something that simple is magick at its finest. Now a days everyone seems to think that its all eye of newt tongue of frog stuff... Im a witch, and I have never cast a spell of that nature. lol. It is an interesting thing when one sits to read it.....

Magick is what you make of it. Chicken soup is as good a potion as any kitchen wytch can make, it tastes good and does help make you feel better.
The wytches of old were known for their ability to heal and to curse, and in the Old Testament were poisoners. Those needing their skills would come to them and get a love potion or an amulet or talisman. There are many cultural definitions of the word witch, and the meaning can be one who only does harm to one who only does good. Most wytches that I know practice by following the witches rede: And harm ye none, do as you will. That rede is a tenant of the religious nature of Wicca, as is worship of the Goddess in all her many names and forms. The Horned God is the other whom is worshiped by Wiccans, as he is the consort of the Goddess. Magick practice is only a small part of the modern Craft, and is done only to give energy, heal, or in some cases bind. Magick is not the primary focus, as those initiates of Wicca know, there is a lot of confusion and wrong information based on fictitious characters, like on Charmed in particular.

A binding spell can work but yes you need to watch your intentions wail doing one... I have only had to do one once and that was to protect A friend that someone else was doing bad spells to... I at the same time did a protection spell and a protection charm for her!
And thank you for the link Should be interesting reading!

I am not wiccan, I don't follow the rede--I just consider myself a witch.

I have no problem with binding a person to cease harmful behavior or malicious gossip (the latter is usually the case), nor do I have any problem as striking back at someone who maliciously strikes at me.

However that comprises only a very small amount of my own magick. I am more into scrying, making healing charms and my own little odds and ends. But when it comes right down to it there is little hestitation to roll up my sleeves and fight back.

I believe that the biggest mistake that anyone can make is think that witchcraft is synmomnous with wicca. Wicca is a religion that impliments witchcraft under its own standards and beliefs. Therefore the approach wicca takes towards magick is not going to necessarily be shared by everyone else who practices witchery.

I am personally quite fond of the word enchantment lol

while dipping in the spells and things also keep in mind even though a binding for ment for good, it can be easily used for bad, also if you really don't believe in what you are doing it may be harmful for you and come back to you x's3 so be careful.

Chicken soup or witches brew? both are one and the same. Only time has made them different. Many the the modern day sciences and medical treatments enploy the same basic principals as the ancient magick. But when such practices be came outlawed through religious intervention, much of the knowladge was lost and had to relearned through more tolerated means. The same is true with glyphs and symbols. Watch tv. You can see ancient runes in several commercial adds shown on a daily basis. The magic is still there. Some just refuse to accept it for what it is.

in my opinion (for what it is worth) the magic in a potion, charm or spell comes from the power of the ritual. Magic like science comes from practicing what works. if a certain spell or potion is prepared the same way every time, it will work. part of that preparation is the energy that you put into it. if you are distracted and therefore not concentrating while you prepare then you are not putting the same "spiritual" energy into it.

My grandma always prepared her soup the same way and therefore it always worked...

I think I would agree or see it in the same way as CuRsEdToDaRkNeSs said it.
Chicken Soup would be just as good a potion or spell as any other. If the person making it truly wants the person it's for to get better, then they will be focused on that while making it. Then in a way, they will the other person to feel better, or make the soup help.

Great site honest attitude
In England we went from secret gathering to every bookshop and his dog had books on all types of so called magic?
The craft is in the mind and the more you believe the more it works.
Our minds alter our perception our minds shape the world around if you believe your getting nothing but bills then your getting nothing but bills coz your putting it out there into the universe.
My craft now a days is just sigils and a belief it is happening, no more naked in the moon light asking new witches to throw themselves on the blade if they don’t believe, I don’t believe to be rewarded for ones actions you have to put in hard labor or late night rituals

I'm still learning about the difference between magic and magick - to be quite honest, I was unaware of the difference, thus, sparking an interest in Wicca an Witchcraft. I do believe there is probably not much difference between soup from dear old granny and brew from a witch. Why? Mostly because I believe there is a link between psychology and healing oneself. If one believes in a placebo, let's say, it's not unlikely that person can recover from a particular ailment. Granted, this is conjecture but occasionally this sort of thing is even covered by the media (not the most reliable source, of course, but from a scientific perspective it does lend some creditbility).

Grandma's homemade chicken noodle soup or witches brew...what a good question! Though perhaps to some they are one in the same! In a witches brew magic is involved correct? But there is also a special kind of magical put into grandma's chicken noodle soup *shrugs* Who could say which is more powerful but perhaps its all in what you believe when you drink/eat it! Mind over matter sort of thing or kinda like healing by prayer *shrugs* Or so that is my opinion somethings your so convinced grandma's chicken noodle soup is going to make you feel all better it does but is it really what's in it or just the thought behind it *shrugs*

As for the second question...I think we will always search for the unanswerable ;)

We search in the dark because there powerful things hide and yet only those who have endured great pain can unlock the darker of the secrets.

I beleive that the difference comes from different sources it could be that the chicken noodle soup is blessed by witches before being canned and sent off but i think thats unlikely.
I beleive only through finding those who know of magical forces and such can anyone actually find true mystical power.

If anyone has any information I would love to learn more on the subject just message me concerning any details and perhaps how I may further my education on the mystic arts.

Most spells or rememdies are bullshit. BULL SHIT. But thats not necessarily a bad thing. Half of feeling or getting better is believing it mentally. Such as cancer patients who are so far gone that they dont even want to move and you never see them smile, but when a dog comes up that little grin and them petting the dog says something about it....

Just like "granies magic chicken soup" the health benefits are in the sup but the thought of it having "healing properties" definately helps the situation.

This isn't to say all spells are fake... They higher council knows of my sin... But i think quite a few are just fake

A cast spell is a prayer to god or gods for help. It is no more ritualistic than the Catholic Church which stole many of its rituals from Paganism of the day. How many times has anyone ever prayed to their god for something? Same thing.
