In Konstantinos' book "Nocturnicon" he describes a method of gathering/ raising energy for the purpose of ritual called "drawing in the dark". This method relies upon the early morning hours (2-5am). One lies in a cold, darkened room and attempts to feel the presence of night. As one relaxes, one attempts to feel beings in the night, whether they be ghosts, spirits, or the spirits in the next door dimension. As they start to gather around your body, you draw in the darkness and palpable fear that one feels from their presence.

This is partially related to the tangible darkness thread. Try this some time. If you are familiar with this book and have tried this method, what are your thoughts?

The basic method is as follows: lie down comfortably inside with a window open to cool down the room, or lie outside if it's warm enough. Close your eyes and count down from 13 to 1, and reach out with your senses to "feel" the darkness surrounding you. If you can make it a room free of all light, including electric clocks, all the better. We have all been there as children. We feared the dark because of the boogeyman, that thing under the bed, or just the fear of the things that go "bump" in the night.

As you lie there, try to remain as still as possible and reach out still further to see if you can detect those things that we felt as children but were too afraid to see. Imagine them now and draw them willingly closer until you can sense their presence around you. Perhaps you can hear them whispering?

When they have surrounded you and there is no denying the presence of the darkness, take a deep breath and draw the sense of darkness into your being. Darkness holds its own energy and can add significantly to your own. When you feel you can no longer take in more darkness, get up (without getting dizzy) and use this energy in your regular ritual.

I'm interested in open minded thoughts. So either try it out first, or give it considered thought rather than spewing an ignorant answer, please.

Yes, this does sound interesting, but it also sounds rather dangerous. I personally would not try it. Who is to know what dark creatures you are opening yourself up to? More power to those who would do it.

I am going to have to give this a try.

The only issue I see with it personally is that I don't perceive that there are things to fear in the dark that are not present in the light. Sure, as a very young child I was "afraid of the dark", but now I enjoy the dark and do not feel the presence of frightening things.

I will give this a try when I can and try to keep an open mind. I will also try to get a copy of the book you mentioned to read further on this.

I believe this is something that is a good thing to try. I have done the opposite by laying there and taking in the light and the energy of nature which is powerful but I am going to try taking in the darkness

Hmm I've somewhat tried it because I'm one of those night people only its because I can't sleep :(
Anywho
I just feel self aware and if there are movements I normally wouldn't notice, I notice. I don't hear anything and if I do, I just think its my ears playing with me. And to be honest it scares me alot to do this because I feel like I'm being watched and/or I'm not the only one in the room....but thats just what it feels like..

Well I would have thought it was a bunch of craziness, but it worked for me. I had the best astral trip I've had in years. And on top of that, when I came back, my dog was in the middle of a whimpering nightmare which he never has. He woke up and stared at the doorway whining, something he hasn't done since we lived with a ghost one time.

It's a powerful ritual setup. For me, it brings in more of the tangible aspect of night. Why does everyone associate dark with evil? Is dark always evil? Is evil always equated with dark?

That was sort of my point. I don't equate darkness with evil at all.

In my opinion the darkness and coolness serve to allow you to focus and reach out to the beings / energy etc. you are seeking to take in. Sort of an aid to blocking out ditractions that would be inevitable in the light.

I will try to pick up the book this week, as I may be toally off base with my opinion formed only on what you have posted.

Actually, I find the darkness rather refreshing, when my messed-up biological clock isn't telling me to get some sleep. I find that I get some of my best thinking and writing done during the times that you mentioned. When my ship was underway, I would sometimes go and find the darkest sponson I could and just gaze, gaze to forget myself and everything else for a bit, and I guess reach. Or else something would weigh heavily on my mind and I could draw in and maybe find a resolution or at the very least, some comfort.
