I know there are many theories as to what causes vampirism and lycanthropy today, but could it just be a race memory? Could the vampires and werewolves of yesteryear have descendants? Just a thought to ponder...

Very good question Carnal. It could be a yes, it could be no.
It all depends on whether you believe in them or not.
I think it is possible, but it might not be likely.
I think as other kin/creatures of the night, we have evoled into what we are now. As times changed, our way of living changed.
I do like the question, it makes you have to stop and think

I have to agree with the comments above, what we are now is conditioned by what we live threw, lets face it 25yrs ago, we where happy with t bats and a square ball going across the screen. Now we are in Virtual Reality.

As for kin or non kin or evolution, they yes the answer is two fold, we are not what our parents were just as our children will not be as we are.

Every generation changes to suit the conditions of the past and present. yes bloodlines must run threw just as genetics runs through. like heart disease or other weakness and morbidities.

But a fantastic question liked it.....

I don't personally believe that the condition of vampire or werewolf is actually inherited. I believe that is merely a flight of fancy to say, "I was born a vampire" or "I was born a werewolf".

Rather, vampire and werewolf are conditions brought on by the belief in them or they are manifested as the result of the surrounding environment (incidents, accidents, etc).

Whilst I cannot speak directly of the werewolf, I can speak directly of the vampire. I was never born as vampire, but rather evolved into one as the response to certain environmental factors. The vampire is merely a convenience of terminology to describe a certain type of energy condition.

Beyond that, my description of what I know to be a vampire becomes much more complex.

To simplify, as simplicity seems to be the norm for these forums, all conditions a pre-existent in the psyche of the person and are manifested through the laws of cause and effect. Because the psyche and the mind are both relatively fragile things during certain stages of human development, they are subject to our perceptions of reality and may take on fantastic roles and adapt certain models in the name of survival.

Whether the resultant condition is real, imagined, or a combination of the two (real, but first imagined) is highly subjective to the perceptions of the individual. To me, the important thing is to distinguish both vampire and werewolf as general conditions that exist in the mind of humanity as a whole and are both easy to adapt in the name of self-preservation.

Do either of these conditions truly exist? Yes they do both exist on a varying degree of levels per individual and the truth of those conditions is only perhaps discernable by the one making the claim.

Ave to all,

Here is a thought to ponder...

Back when I was a child, the Grandmother put me aside and started a conversation out of nowhere. The conversation was about our descendence and bloodlines. She was discussing the histories the family had with the Salem witches, the German Nosferatu, and the Louisiana Loupe Garou. She told me my fathers side was descended from Germany and the mothers side was descended from witches. I have no idea why she brought up a conversation like that when I was not even 9 years old. I confronted her about it when I was 17 and she asked me if I were...How did she put it...Plagued by shadowy dreams of the shadow people. I have to admit, I saw human shadows in my room on most nights, but thought nothing of it. She explained to me, that those shadows were the presence of the watchers.

I now know what the term watcher means, but the point I am trying to make here is...Yes there are descendence of age old myth and or legend, some families have them, some do not.

My advise to all is to have a discussion with a family member whom seems a bit out of place, who keeps to themselves...Bring up the subject subtly. Ask if your ancestors ever acknowledged the presence of any non human related individuals. Makes for good conversation if I do say so myself.

With regards
Soulshroude

I have always believed this to be a possibility, given natures drive to reproduce. Everything on this earth is driven by the need to reproduce so I believe it is also possible for it to be this way with otherkin of any kinds.

I p[ersonally believe that the answer is no; but then again, I believe that "vampirism" is a state of mind, not an actual species. So probably not the best candidate to answer your question. However I would like to add that we tend to mystify the past, and that this process has been going on for centuries- maybe the past isn't as mysterious as we think it is, and that all the myths, rumour and legend was due to a state of mind, and a fear of the unknown, rather than something concrete,

Descendants....sure why not, and aware of their lineage but not too crazy about humans finding out. As I said in another post, as a sub genre of human with ancient capabilities, it would be best to stay clear of humankind and just live among your own. The shapeshifters are in almost every ancient writing and if can subscribe to the belief and understanding that, even if all ancient civilizations DID have contact with each other ie: Pyramids on every continent, then the possibilities of their existence can not be ruled out, but must be accepted.

The question tends to stem from the ideas as to wether the dead could have children. This is from a more mythic and historical point of view. Vampires of Myth and Legend are undead cursed with a hunger for blood. Could the undead still bear children? And if so. Does that change what the child is. Would it be considered "Half undead"? Would it be Stronger or Weaker than it's progenatores.

With the case of "Werewolves" the matter changes. It would seem easier for such a creature to pass on its genetic uniquness to its offspring. But again would the traits be watered down unless both parents carried the same origins?

And then the other Question asked. What about other "Were's"? Would two different "Were's" Create a unqiue offspring? A mix of both animals. A Mutt? If you will. How much of the human base would be left? And how strong would the supernatural bloodline stem?

All very pondering questions raised.

An answer to this question, depends on whether or not one believes that these mystical creatures of the night even exist. If you believe they exist, then yes there could be a possibility that the trait could be passed down throught the generations. If you don't believe, then it is highly unlikely that the trait exists.

I don't necessarily believe in the real were wolves and vampires (like the immortal ones from the movies) but if all of them really existed some time in the past and they reproduced then I would guess that there descendants walk among us today.

If I were to believe in vampires or werewolves, then I would most definitely think it could be a genetic thing. Some people have the belief that there are born vampires and then there are made vampires. I think that's interesting. It makes for a great storyline. :)

I believe that no one will truely know the answer to this question. I believe it is very possible for the simple fact as for some of the stories and myths from yesteryear were indeed laced with some truths. It basically boils down to what you believe in. In my opinion what people believe is what keeps stories and myths alive.

A very ponderous question. I think that there is a link in some shape or form that binds vampires and other-kin of today with those of generations past. It could even be that our dremas are memories of their past. That is another ponderous question as well. Carpe Noctem
