Even though I was raised Catholic, until I was 14, and then found my own way.
Wiccans and Pagans do not believe in the existence of the Christian “Hell”, as either a tangible place (one of fire and brimstone, of eternal torture and torment) or as a spiritual plane (out of “God’s sight” and being forsaken by and separated from God), where the damned or evil languish and suffer. I can’t even comprehend such a terrible idea of this sort, let alone imagine that a creative force that is supposed to be all-knowing, all-seeing, all-forgiving and all-loving could separate Itself from, and turn Its back on, Its creations. Essentially all Wiccans, myself included, assert that the existence of Hell is completely incompatible with their concept of a loving and forgiving Deity.
While we’re on the subject of the loving Deity and the inexistence of Hell, I must state that Wiccans and Pagans do not believe in the existence of the Christian-concept of an entity called “Satan”. The idea that Witches worship this “Satan” is one of the most common misconceptions about us. This erroneous idea probably developed hundreds of years ago because some Christian leaders encouraged their followers to view non-Christians as anti-Christian. If you weren’t a believer in Christ, the embodiment of the good, you MUST be a believer in his evil opposite—Satan or the Devil. The all-evil Satan is a Christian concept that plays NO part in the Wiccan religion. Wiccans do not recognize the existence of the Christian quasi-deity, Satan; their pantheons of deities do not include an all-evil supernatural being. Wiccans do not believe that negativity or evil is an organized force.

What is everyone elses take on this ?
i believe this because i was always told that if i die thats were i will be going
"Wiccans do not believe that negativity or evil is an organized force."
But positivity and goodness are? I'm not trying to attack any religions, or defend any either. It's a basic law of attraction, evidenced by even the far reaches of Asian history. Without evil there is no good. How would you define good if you didn't have something to compare it to?
That being said, would you consider a Jew pagan?
We all were given free choice of thoughts. Why many think we worship Satan is bacause of the Horned God.
I acutally belive ell is this lane and is a class room to learn things as for Satan I guess I fallow him only because e/it is what my God Enli has become
true! ........What are you trying to accomplish with this thread?
..and to answer, no I dont believe in a tangible Hell.
Beliefs are personal, that's why they're beliefs. Personally, I don't believe in either heaven or hell, but then I'm neither Wiccan nor Christian.
I am not Sure after re-reading the article, but my summerlands is a place were all druids are sent to, its a place kinda like milk and honey for a job and service well done,it is a most sacred of places and the most holy of places for a druid to speak of.
I'm not Wiccan so I can't speak on the religious connotations of the Summerlands however I am a big fantasy reader and I know that that imagery is often used as a blessed afterlife... the Western Isles, Avalon, etc etc.
like wolfbohne has said. u can not have good with out evil. just like u can not have evil with out good. it is the simple principals of yin and yang. as with that said in every good being there is a small part of that being that is evil and same is said of evil but he or she has a small part that is good. nothing in this world or the next can be with out this balance.
Just my opinion, but once again, you do not have to be wiccan to be a Pagan.
That being said, I am pagan, but not wiccan...Nor will I throw these names out at random, as it is against VR rules. I will give my opinions on good vs bad, positive vs negative.
These forces are like that of magik, black magik, wihite magik...There is no polarity, it is just the mean by which magik is used. Magik is neutral in all ways. As are the energies of the universe. Depends on the forces on which said energies may be used.
I am not Pagan or Wiccan so I can not comment on Summerland...
I believe that there is a hell but not in the christian sense...I believe that hell is what we ourselves make it out to be...not some place where a man with a pitch fork stands over those who have sinned during their time on earth...I think of it more as a state of mind
For those of whom are interested in the Summerland amongst many other things of nature
Summerland
this is a response to the jewish part according to the ones I got to Synagogue this is hell or a verison of it. but in jewish hummor they also think that god has chose them and they cant go to hell.
If your religion claims they are already in hell, but cannot go to hell...Would this in turn be a bit contradictory belle? I may be wrong.
I thought so but then again when i went to catholic school my teacher made us call her god wouldnt that of been blasaphmy or whatever its called, people do and say weird things but who am i to correct.
Beginning to get more information on the Wiccan lifestyle and thinking of following that path. Most of the books I have read recently point to the happy places and whatnot but have no real place of punishment. Not sure exactly why you would only have a positive without a negative, even in nature it is shown that there is an opposite for everything...life-death, preditor-prey, hot-cold, light-dark etc etc etc. So with a summerland, why could there not also be a place of punishment as summerland is the place of reward...just a thought.
My answer is the same as Drakontion's.
An idea of Hell is just too far out there for me to believe in.
I agree with you completely, but some things die hard, & it is difficult to totally disregard that which is brow-beaten into you from a very early age. ( LOL ! I was obviously raised Catholic as well )
I am a Satanist now and The Church i have learned from also has Pagans in it..As well as other religions..I do not know what Summerland is or what it is about..Thus thread my be good for me to learn and read..I am learning rituals and was gave a Satanic Witch name..I am not smart nor do i confess knowing everything..So i will continue to read this thread and learn
I agree with xMitsix. Hell could be a state of mind.
I agree that there has to be some sort of balance between light and dark. It is true that there cannot be good without evil and like-wise.
I am not Wiccan or Pagan but I am interested in their religion... I do not have a religion though so I am open to all ideas...
I'm with Wolfsbohne on this one.
There is most certainly good and evil out there. I think there are organized forces of both, so to speak.
I agree with most of what you said, though.
i was raised catholic till age 12, and im now wiccan, i don't believe in god or the devil as taught in the cathlic church. there is evil in this world through people or spirits and good in the same way
very informative i dint know that... I like the idea of No satan...
well i was born in a christian family and yes i do believe in GOD and ibelieve there is a devil too. but im not here to preach. everyone has there on belifes and i respect that
My feelings are that you can't have one without the other, good and evil go hand in hand.
Christian here.
I amire and respect the wiccan system of beliefs.I am for the freedom of thinking.
I agree about a distinction between satanism and wicca.
Satan is related only to the judeo-christian system of beliefs.
Unfortunately this idea is not very well known these days although we live in XXI century.
However there are some pagan deities who have similar atributes or powers. Some of celtic origin, some not.
That is where the confusion is coming from.
Some are just wrong informed about that, but there are some fanatics that do these accusations on purpose.
God as is seen in the old testament is not an all forgiven kind of god! There are some conditions there. Please read that book ;)
The satanic powers are not very organised, in fact are seen as the chaotic part of existence.
Wolfsbohne has a srong point of view, but only if you take into consideration the logical principle of tertium non datur.
However there are some things that could be in the same time good and bad in the same reffering system for the ones who don`t think in a cartesian system of thinking ;)
THe jews don`t have Satan but they have Semyaza and other satanic deities. From the christian philosophical point of view they are pagans. LOL
I am a Satanist and even though i believe in god..I just dont follow the ways of Xtians anymore and if Ones would read up on Satanism they will see that Just Because We are Satanists, doesnt mean We worship the Devil for We dont...We worship Ourselves..Doesnt mean just because We believe differently doesnt make Us evil People..We are normal, kind and loyal to Our Own..I believe in Karma, Fate and if You arent 100 percent sure on what wrong You was done, then You are fine..So many ppl doesnt have a clue on exactly what We are, they just go by what we was taught.,...
I have gone to theocratic ministry school and have read the bible from cover to cover a few times and there is no mention of a Hell of fire and brimstone where the evil are punished at all in the bible the literal translation of Hell is the grave. Personally I do not think that there can be a force for good without a force for evil because there is duality in all things there is, there is no up without down, no light without dark so how can there be good without evil.
I have read the Bible and I have learned many different things from different sources. I refuse to believe that there is not a hell. MY own opinion. I do not believe in purgatory. I believe in life after death. I am done now as this will certainly get worse before it gets better.
I have really enjoyed reading everyones views on this thread.
I agree with LadyKrystalynDarkStar.. I was raised Baptist, then went away for awhile and l learned of the non denominational ways..But there was still something missing in my life..I met Shane the most wonderful Mentor and Friend one could ever ask for..He helped me learn about the missing pieces of me.. He never once tried to force anything down my throat for that isnt the way We do..I do not judge others for their beliefs, I respect it until I feel as if it is being forced on me..I believed alot of the bible but had questions and doubts, I understand why now..When I read the SB for the first time I was in shock, to have believed things so long to find out differently..I do not mean to step on toes or bash anyOne's religion..This is the way I think
I also believe that we will know in the end what is right and what is wrong. I believe that all this speculation and living the way you "believe" will come down to one solid thing and then everyone will know immediately who is right and who is wrong. I await that day.
That is so true Ma'am and I agree..But We know now what is right and what is wrong but doesnt always listen..I do understand Your point if view but to me the path I am taking is the right one for me..But as You said..That day will come for All of Us
You can only listen to your own mind and heart and evaluate what you've learned over the years. Whether it is right or wrong is not for me or anyone else to say outloud. You believe in your heart that it's right, then by all means, it is right, but only will we know the truth on that day of reckoning.
I think the whole idea of heaven and hell exist in all of us and are not literal places that anyone is sent to. I don't think a god that can create such beauty would want to have any of his creations put in a place of torture. Most things like hell and purgatory I think were made up by the church to keep people in line.
Nods I understand and agrees...I have listened to my heart and soul before and things werent the way they should have been..Different reasons of course but the same in a way...Dosent matter who likes me or not for what I believe in for the most part I am a good person..I try and help when i can, i am polite and respectful most of the time..Doesnt always be that way though..
Made up by a church? Have You not read the bible? It states somewhere's about heaven and hell..I do not worship Satan, I worship myself...I do things cause i want and most of the time i dont have remorse for doing so..Do not get me wrong for there are times i feel bad about certain things, but they are done and over with..I can try to make things better next time or just go on without that in my life..
You don't have to justify anything with anyone unless they are your creator or "God"......depending on what you believe. I meet nice people every day but I don't know what they believe. Doesn't matter to me as long as no one gets hurt.
that is the way it should be also..But You know it isnt..I treat ppl as i wish to be treated..If i feel i dont get the same , well it changes
That it does Ma'am that it does...And so sad to see it happening
winterdarkmoon yes I have read the bible and my mom was a minister at one point in time she is the one who showed me that yes there is a heaven but there is no fiery hell place that people are sent to other then the pit that criminals were put in by man not by got or Satan. From that I got that hell is here on earth and Satan is the ruler of things here for now till Armageddon and the the literal term for hell or hades from the Greek and Hebrew just simply mean the grave.
I agree on the world being hell but just because i am a Satanist does not mean i worship the devil..it doesnt work that way and i believe i was referring to the satanic bible as well..i have my own opinions just as you have your's..i know the bible as well ..i do not agree with it any longer..and i am happy on who i am and that is all that matters
