...that title was a tad vague, but here's the rub:
My best friend died this weekend past, and he was as religious as I, in the Egyptian path mostly....and I feel he needs a 'proper burial'. His family is cremating him, which me may or may have not minded (tho celtic speaking that is the usual way- he did adhere to some of those beliefs as well), and I think if fitting that certain items be buried with him.
I have an udjat eye (Horus), bastet statue, ankh, and some black tourmaline.
What I would like to hear is this- for those of you who are in the same path, or similar, all are welcome, what other items do you think should be placed in his urn??? I think he needs protection (he used to get in trouble on so many planes), and a calling to the gods to send him Home well.
PLease put in your input.
That he shared with you a path and that he walks before you and that you send items with him that is with your prayers and thoughts plenty bring together others he knew and let them put energy on the items as well.I hope I have friends as thoughtful as you.
A scarab statue is another thing to be buried along with your friend. Scarab symbols were highly used in Egyptian burial rites.
Are his family aware/sympathetic to his beliefs ?
Personally, I think the love of a good and loyal friend is the best gift ever.
Did your friend have something that he loved? Egyptians were burried with the things they loved most in life (often cats, but that is another story), so if your friend had something like that, use it as well.
yes, something that he treasured above all else. they were buried with their earthly possessions in order to be able to take them along on their journey to the next plane
First and foremost if his family does not know or agree with his beliefs they probably wont let u bury anything with him. If they let u then I would bury his most cherished possesion with him.
Also I am sorry for your loss
First my condolences for you loss.
Celtics often believed that items burned with the body were taken to the afterlife.
Egyptians believed that items buried with the body were taken.
My thought would be if you can not arrange to have the items cremated with the deceased (closer to celtic beliefs) than it would be acceptable to place the items in the urn (closer to your own beliefs). If neither of the above options is available to you could ritually confer ownership of the item(s) to the deceased then destroy the items to release the spiritual force to be sent to your friend.
first off sorry for your losss seccondly if it was me i would see what the family has in mind then go from there and if you can get a all seeing eye to put with him
The eye of horus should go on the urn, not within the urn. The scarab is a very good idea, as well as an ankh, a piece if any jewerly your friend wore...If you are planning on using the urn as a canopic jar, then it should be drawn or engraved with the accurate heiroglyphs.
Wow, I do hope one day when I pass there are those here who will look after me in this way, truly commendable.
I once had a young friend who died in an accident who was also creamated. His friends decided what his funeral was going to be like.
Glen's spirit always belong to the sea, he loved to fish and was always out in the boat. So, his ashes went out to the ocean on his boat along with the priest and close family members/friends. His ashes were then blessed, and during prayer scattered on the crest of wave...
He became one with the Ocean he loved :)
bury your friend in the way you thing he would want. and with lots of love
i like people should be honored as the king in the old times.
I hope to be ground up and fed to the sharks. One of the items I would like to do before I die is swim with sharks and feed bait to them outside of a cage. I'm awed by sharks and if after my death, I'm just meat. Then feed it to the sharks.
i am sorry for your loss. and as it was said i wish i have friends that will do this for me. after i pass. but the most important thing i think to remember is to never let his or her memory die as he or she did. then and only then will his soul be immortal in your eyes and never shall he or she leave you.
There are a few books that I would recommend to find information on Egyptian burial amulets and talismans if you haven't picked them up already. Bob Brier has an excellent book called Egyptian Magic that has information on amulets and talismans for burial and death ceremonies in ancient Egypt. Also, Eleanor Harris has a good book called Ancient Egyptian Divination and Magic.
M. Isadora Forrest has a beautiful Kemetic (Egyptian) ritual for a loved one who has passed in her book called Isis Magic. It is called "The Opening of the Ways for an Ever-Living One." Hope that steers you in the right direction. I am truly sorry to hear about your loss...
