I've been thinking about the whole of The Odyssey since we saw it on Saturday. I've been discussing it with people both in my real life, and engaging in conversations about it online. There's still so much I didn't like about the film, far more than I did like, but, I recognize that my opinion doesn't really matter. I'm just a drop of water in the ocean that is the conversation regarding it. And because of that, I went and dug out my copy so I can reread it. I do love that this film has gotten me back into the world that was ancient Greece. Granted, I've never left, Greek mythology is one of my biggest interests, but moreso the actual history behind the story. So, that's what I'll be up to in my free time for the next week or so, rereading the book. I haven't read it in at least a decade, so it'll be nice to dive into it again.

So, The Odyssey... Well, it was definitely a movie. I wouldn't say it was bad, because it really wasn't, but it just didn't live up to the hype it's been getting, it wasn't what I expected when I go in to see an adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. It didn't feel epic or big. And I'm a fan of Nolan, I very much enjoy his movies, I think he's a wonderful director and writer. I just don't think any of that really was able to shine in this movie. And the pacing just felt super off to me. I loved Anne Hathaway as Penelope, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, and Tom Holland as Telemachus, but that's about it. Everyone else felt disconnected from the story. And again, Damon would not have been the person I would have picked to play Odysseus. But yeah... I wasn't impressed and neither was Logan. Granted, he's giving it time to stew before he makes a final decision on his thoughts, but my thoughts are that it's a C+ to B- movie. Not spectacular, not epic in scope, just a movie that we watched. I will say that it doesn't feel like 3 hours, so that's a definite plus. You really don't feel the runtime at all, it doesn't drag, it just isn't paced well beat for beat. The dialogue is rather dumbed down for modern audiences, but I think it could have done with heavier language at points. This is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, epic stories that exists, and this movie is just a shell of that story. It's very unfortunate. I really wanted to like it more, but it couldn't get me there.

We got tickets to go see The Odyssey on Saturday. Granted, not the way it's meant to be seen, in IMAX 70mm but I figure if we like it, we can see it the way it was intended later. Trying to get into an IMAX 70mm showing right now is all but impossible, and not that many theaters around LA are showing it. So, we'll give it a few weeks. I am stoked, though. I've never been a huge fan of The Odyssey, but I have read it a number of times, and I am a huge nerd for Greek Mythology, so it is up my alley. I just like EPIC's version of the story better because it has kick ass songs... But that movie is in the works and it'll be a while before it is done so we take what we can get. Even if that means watching Matt Damon play Odysseus. Not my first choice. Or second, third, fourth, or fifth, but people are raving and they can't all be wrong. Hopefuy it doesn't piss me off too much, as such movies tend to do. I really hope I can enjoy this one.

I just got back from the optometrist and he was able to aliviate my worries of my retinas possibly detaching. We got a really good picture of my eyes, and everything seems to be in good condition. I have some scar tissue on the back of my right eye, from I don't know what, but outside of that, I'm all good. The fact that I'm seeing more floaters is likely just due to age. So, that's a big chip off my shoulders. I've been so scared of having a retina detach since my mom had one of hers detach back in 2008, and lately even more so because I was seeing more floaters in my eyes, and my mom said that's a warning sign. But, thankfully, I don't need to worry. Granted, they could always just spontaneously detach, like my mom's, but if that happens, it's just going to happen. I also ordered some new frames, so I can't wait to get those. I like my current glasses, but they are a bit big for my tastes. I like smaller, sleeker frames that don't engulf half my face. So, yay! Some good news from a doctor for once, haha.

I got my blood work results in, and yeah, everything pertaining to iron is stupidly low, which means I'm anemic and need to start supplementing my iron intake. Also, super vitamin D deficient. 30 is normal, I'm at 6...so...I guess I need to go outside and touch some grass or something. That could also explain my constant fatigue. But hey, bright side is at least everything else was good. Thankfully I have an appointment with my doctor in a few weeks and we can get things sorted out and get me on whatever supplements I need.

Honestly, from personal experience, it's a pain in the ass coming from a fellow anemic. I've been seeing a hematologist for 10 years now, if I can remember correctly. My white blood cell count was always elevated and high. I had a very low iron intake. Had to even endure a bone marrow biopsy one time. I've done iron infusions for labs. They usually do blood work every visit. It's not fun being poked when the nurses try to draw blood, especially when my veins are small. Sometimes it would take a few tries of inserting the needle just to get a sight of blood. By the end of the appointment, I feel like one of those pincushions seamstresses use. As for the supplements, I've been prescribed Vitamin-B 12 and Folic Acid medications; however, I could choose between either the pill form of Vitamin-B 12 or go with the B12 injection. There have been moments when my WBC is stable, and the hematologist just wants to monitor things. Regarding the iron intake, I do try to eat some foods that contain iron. I never had to go through any of this until my mid 20s. So yeah, it's a hassle, but the best thing to do is to make sure you're on top of your appointments and supplements.

Okay, summer, I know you're in your peak right now, but it would be great if you just, you know, stopped. Stopped with the heat and the humidity and making existence so awful right now. Give me overcast days that don't make me feel like I'm being smothered, give me cool temperatures and crisp breezes. I guess what I'm really saying is, just give me autumn already. I'm over all of this.

I've been feeling not quite like myself for a while now, and it isn't pleasent. I don't sleep well, I find I'm relying too heavily on edibles to knock me out these days, and when I'm awake, I'm so utterly fatigued. Thankfully, I have a doctor's appointment a few days after my birthday next month, so I can talk to her about this. I've never really felt like this before, and while I've always been a night owl, I've never had issues getting the sleep I needed. Being awake but constantly feeling so tired is, well, tiring. It's really starting to concern me now.

May need to have your iron checked. I know I feel similar to how you are describing when mine goes low.

That's what I've been thinking, as the last time I had my labs done, my iron levels were so low. Like, crazy low. I'm getting my labs redone next week, so hopefully I'll see if that's the issue. It's just been so awful feeling like this. I've been told I'm anemic years before, but I've never really looked into it, as I've never had a reason to. But now that I'm older, I need to start paying more attention to my health, I can't go around ignoring things like I have. Hopefuy I'll get started on supplements if it is the iron thing and I can go back to feeling like myself.

I had a family member have issues with their honor levels, recently. We ordered a Iron Fish that you stick in the pot when you cook food. And it helped as a iron supplement.

That's definitely something I'll have to consider getting if it is iron issues. Thanks, Drayton.

I sure do love having a president who address the nation and pretty much everything out of his bloated, stinking mouth is a fucking lie. Pretty much everything he talked about in the 20-something minute speech was untrue.

I've been a resident of California all my life, I've been voting in elections here since I turned 18 years old. I can confidently say that there is minimal fraud in our elections here. Minimal. Do you know why it takes so long to count our votes? Because we use mail-in ballots here and they need accept them so long as they are postmarked the day of the election. Also, California has the largest population in all of the US. LA County alone has more people than 40 other states. And that's literally ONE COUNTY. so yeah, our elections have always taken more time to finalize than other places. It annoys me to no fucking end when that dipshit rails on us for our elections taking so long to count.

All of this was to lay the groundwork to question the results come November. Ugh... All I have to say is that anyone who believes the bullshit that man says is a fucking idiot. Plain and simple. You're either stupid or woefully ignorant and misinformed. And honestly, today, that's not a valid excuse anymore.

When the fuck is he going to do something good for the world and just drop dead already?

I went to the DMV to take care of my license stuff yesterday, and much to my delight, I was able to put down non-binary as my gender, and that's what's going to show up on my actual license now! It is a shame that it's only going to be for a few months until we move, Texas is ass backwards and only goes by male and female, but it'll be a nice few months to have a government issued ID that fits my gender identity. I can't wait to get my new license now.

Sam Neill has passed away. This loss is hard for me, as I loved him as an acror, and I especially loved him as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park/Wold series.

I'm going to have to binge all the movies now in remembrance. May he rest in peace.
