I See You Rise Each Day
20:08 Apr 01 2009
Times Read: 1,134
Like the burden of carrying forward your name,
You wear the story of Isaac in the lines of your face
And the bowing of your back beneath the weight
you bear,
Materials to build the altar of your father's sacrifice.
You see no lamb.
I am Sarah, suddenly quiet, longing to sweep you into my arms,
Into a woman's hug,
Writing a new prophesy, the desire of my heart for your namesake -
"He WILL laugh."
I would wash for you the blood from each grain of desert sand
That might stain your sandals.
But that is not how the story goes,
And your throat is not mine to keep from the blade of your father's faith.
The story you wear is mine to read,
Mine to weep,
And mine to hope.

I feel the warm sand between my toes. Heartwarming.
Now I need a hug!

I insist in returning to leave a proper comment when I'm less fully stunned. How the hell do you still manage to stun me with your words, even with all of the years I've seen you demonstrate your ability to completely blind-side your readers and leave then absorbed and drooling in wonder?
