Personal reflection on art

Art is the expression of inspiration. What makes you feel...really feel? Do you have a welling-up inside yourself that MUST come forward and be told? And in the telling, do you create or do you photocopy the experience? A photocopy or repetition without a little piece of your soul is not art. You'll know it's art because you will sweat it, worry over it, bleed a llittle in the re-telling of your experience. Art, like love, and most things worth having in this life, depends on a measure of self-risk.

And I said "experience." In the creation of art which stems from inspiration, there has to be an experience, and what is experience? Change. In literature, characters undergo a change...they are not the same as when the story began. Your goal in this life, this story, is to change...to grow. In order to do that, you register the world around you. Taste it, stand on your head and look at it, kick it in the balls when you're mad at it, make love to it, and befriend it, especially in the form of good people.

You can even do all of the above by experiencing the art of others. How can anyone visit Vespers' profile, journal, and portfolio without truly experiencing them and even carrying away inspiration of your own? My journal is amply spiced by the inspiration of simply visiting the places where she rubs her soul into the corners.

And what about Morrigon? My god, read her journal! You may not even like her, but by god, I challenge you not to experience her. She is delightfully and painfully honest. She takes you along her road of self-discovery as she reacts to the world and people around her, especially reacting to herself...her prides, her curiosities, her disappointments, and even her heartbreaks. I never leave her profile, journal, or portfolio without seeing the world in a new way, even about silly things.

We all have art inside of us. We were designed to be beautiful in our own ways, even if tweaking that beauty out takes a forklift and a crowbar. React to the world. Experience it. And then, invite me along. I want to be there with you.

But the link isn't broken...or maybe its jus a new link..

I can see the world through anyone's eyes, sometimes even my own. But a few, as you've stated as well as yourself see it so much more beautifuly than most can scarcely imagine. Yes, we all have art underlying within, but you, my Dear are more illuminating than you might give yourself credit for *winks*

I wrote yesterday about Man On Wire. Have you ever watched something that was more experienced than passively watched? That is what Man on Wire is - an experience. I spent most of the film with my mouth open and saying things like, "my god...not possible."

It completely captures an alternate way to live your life, whether you do it on a tight rope or from a mini van. It is about passion and choice to never play it safe, but to grab your life by the balls and experience the poetry of it...the beauty, the art, the profundity of the gift of being alive.

If my voice isn't enough for you, and why the hell isn't it, then check the Sundance award and the Academy Award for best documentary.

If you do not rent or buy this movie and watch it, I will come to your house and eat your pet. I will mock you with interpretive dance. I will sneak into your home and mismatch your throw pillows. Why? Because you will be morally impoverished for choosing to not watch this film. Take my threats seriously...I am watching you.

I saw that!
