There are many myths legend and superstitions surrounding the life of Vlad the Impaler. He is very well known among many. There are many facts that are not 100% accurate and some people have not been able to prove or disprove. So to us Vlad the Impaler is a person a stranger of history. He is a mystery but i will state some things that is know of him.

It is stated that Vlad the Impaler was born in Transylvania in the town of Sighisoara later known as northern Romania. It's said that he later ruled the area of southern Romania known as Wallachia. His dad Vlad Dracul was a knight in the order of the dragon a union of central and eastern European rulers who were a bit worried about the rising Ottoman empire.

It has been found that the coat of arms for the order of the dragon was a dragon and a cross which symbolized the Ottoman and Christianity. He attracted the nickname Dracul after making his coat of arms appear on everything fro the flag to his seal. Dracul meaning Devil in Romanian.

After the second son was born to Vlad Dracul making him Vlad II the name developed an a representing the son of Dracul, Dracula which meant son of the devil. Vlad gained Impaler to his name due to his cruel and unusual habit of impaling humans and his enemies. Also Vlad was only called Tepes or the Impaler only after his death in 1476.

A rough estimation of death cause by Vlad is anywhere from 20,000 to 500,000. He often tortured victims before killing them and he would put his victims upon a stake and set it upright and watch and have dinner parties as the weight of their bodies brought them to their death. He was a respected warrior and stern ruler who didn't tolerate any crime against his people.

He was a hero that was both worshiped and feared by his people.
