Where I live, I am the only person who wears black for 60 miles.

I am the only person with a strange hair color, such as purple.

I am the only person who has ever read of writers like Rice, Lovecraft, Gaiman, Andrews, or Stoker.

I am the only person who has ever heard of music artists that range from VNV Nation to Diary of Dreams to Suicidal Romance to The Covanent.

Being the only one who looks so very different from the tanned blondes and brunettes, I am ridiculed for how I behave.



It's not just the physical appearance. My extreme love for vampyre erotica, my longing to have been born in the Victorian Era or the Renaissance Era, my desire for mystery, for ancient unrecalled beauty, for seeing something in nothing, beauty through "ugliness," well... you can see the point from which I am standing.

People mimick me, paint white-out on their hands and mock my skin tone... they pull my hair and step on the back of my skirts... they tell me that I am ugly.
