i think certain religions are just brainwashing...i dont have much against christianism but there are so many places that just teach or baptise kids at such a young age, shouldnt you let a person deside for himself...coments
i was brought up into it... brought up into a religion that when i was old enough to decide i left behind...
but our parents or guardians just try to bring us up the best they can and if they are religious then they view that as the best way.
so was i,its fine when that happens, unfortunatly some parents have a problem with that....
Definetly, your right we should decide for our selves. but i was not astray to the fact (i believe) that thier is a creator. i was rasied catholic but fell out of that religion, and my parents were cool enough to understand why i did and let me go on my own religion wise, so im just searching for answers now thats about it i just have my theories and thoughts about life and now i am applying them to my life as i live, and if im wrong then incomes tiral and error....
I think religions are manipulating people.
But manipulation is some form of brainwashing, isn't it? :)
What you are missing here, is that you are born to parents / parent, they decided for you what direction your life should take, until you are at the age in which you are able to make decisions for yourself, all based on their beliefs, where you live etc. Unfortunately for most of your childhood life you are forced into a religion that your parents deem fit. You can't change that unless you tell them you do not wish to be forced to follow their beliefs. My daughter is a prime example of this, she was raised in a home where her step-grandparents are Catholic, so to follow their wishes, as she was under their roof, her father, step-mother and I agreed that, that was how she would be raised, as her step-grandfather insisted upon it, but only until the age she could choose for herself. The point is this, at such a young age, it is our parents who make the decisions for us in our lives. When we are older, then we make our own. If a person feels they are being brainwashed into or about a religion then it is up to them to change that.
mm brainwashing is so much fun but for some reasons after humans brains are washed their bodies dont work so well....
Religion is a method of ruleing both your own life and those of others. Much like code of laws. Unfortunetly the idea of Because it is Gods will many many atrocites can be committed.
Cant really agree it is anymore brain washing than public schooling attempts to brainwash the masses of poor.
i got an email once saying that this country was founded by " in god we trust" which isn't true. This country didn't have a trace of religion did it before the white man came? I am a being that learns from the world around me, nature, animals etc. and i don't need a religion to teach me anything.
didn't we this thread already?
religion as philosophy=good
religion as undiscuted truth=bad
all i see is posts talking about religion. it's kind of annoying....
I went to a Catholic school for a very long time and yes, it was brainwashing... I'm glad that after about 4th grade I started to think for myself... and found a new religion that fit me better...
But not all religions are brainwashing... hmmm... maybe because I had nuns as teachers it was even more so...
Ob1 has it right he is undiscuted in my opinion,... and I have learned a new word. Hah no post editing here! Im not saying anything I dont wanna take back
I was brought up for the most part a jehovah's witness, My mother is now schizophrenic thanks in no small part to their teaching methods, They are forcing one girl I know to marry her cousin and one family I know disowned their daughter for divorcing her wife beating husband I have more dirt but I won't cast it up. I also had bad experiences with the catholic church muslims and the protestant church of scotland as a child. I have an intense hatred of organised religions they all work in the same basic manner to brainwash and manipulate, they prey on the weak fund and fuel wars and should be outlawed. They should at least outlaw religion being taught in any way to children.
many things are brainwashing but i do think that religion can be at times.
yes people should be able to decide for them self on weather ot not the want to be religions or not
I too was raised religius. I was baptized when I was 4 months old. now i wanna get another religion...one that i like, instead of being bored for an entire hour at church when my mom perfectly knows I tend to space out.
WinglessAngel marry me! Finally someone who got it! Go to the woods, close your eyes and just feel! It's all there! It's not God speaks through a words of a 100000000000000 men, like Bible is, it's God himself speaks directly to your brain! You just can't be misguided!
aww a proposal. How sweet *hugs* Zlee. i'm already married but if i ever become mormon or america's first sultan, i'll hook you up *winks* lol
For those who understand everything literally: "marry me!" = "I am so delighted to see a person who thinks like me!"
i know what you meant silly! lol I was making a joke. *winks*
*to WA* LOL, that explaining was written to anyone but you!
I don't think i like the direction that this thread is taking, but since i know it isn't meant to appease me ...
i'll carry on.
BTW :
It is usually the religious zealots who become so enthralled in their own religion that they feel the need to permeate others with their beliefs.
I think religion is a very personal matter that should be left to each individual's discretion.
We live in a society where nearly everything is brainwashing, from religious beliefs to which panty liner to use. In the end, it all seems to be about money and power.
I strongly believe that people should be taught well and then allowed to make their OWN decisions, free from damnation and other judgements. cast upon them by other people. (Like a god would care what the little shits thought.)
The amount of pain I see in people every day as they come to grasps with their guilt resulting from their trying to pry themsleves free from their "religious traditions" awes me. So much pain.
Everyone is born with their own beleifs, however they may be unknown to them until they reacha certain level of maturity. Until then it is up to the parents to raise them as they see fit. Although later when those personal beleifs are better developed, the way they had been raised could esscelate some resentment. Parents be careful.
Well I see brainwashing in everyday things. Look around its in everything from tv shows to cartoons and dont get me started about x-mas time.....lol
my child when old enough will make his own opinion of this type of stuff, as far as me i have been to a few churchs and most care about one thing, money..most have lost track of what they are here for
Soemtimes I think that peoples families hold it against you if yopur not their faith. Im not being prejudice, as Ive experienced it.
I think religion is a mixture of giving people faith and giving a sence of control to those who govern it, and it can sometimes in its extremeties be brainwashing, but I think tolerance and awareness is the main way to combat social difference.
I think theres always something which one is more attracted to but what you learn at a young age does affect you.....
I remember when I was a child (about 5 or 6) I believed in God... and I still have a piece of schoolwork I did from that time with autumn leaves drawn on it, and the question;
"Why do the leaves go brown and fall off int he autumn?"
I answered;
"Because God told them to."
The young follow by example before they amke their own decisions, and Im glad that when were older we have time to change our minds.
can't really blame parents for wanting their kids to have their same faith... tho it's interesting when you realise that they were, in most cases also brainwashed, but didn't quite manage to grow out of it. the more time passes, the more interested i become in observing the blatant idiocy of my own parents, for example, as they try to convince me to not choose my path and keep theirs, and the only reason they can come up with is to uphold tradition.
Im not blaming them (as in with negative connotations) but I think that the world around us socialyl is a serious factor in soem makor choices.
I feel that you have to be weak-minded to allow someone to brainwash you... I know I'm going to hear it for saying this..lol
i agree Octavia... its either a weak mind or you're just not confident enough in your own beliefs...
as respect 4 a great man, this thread shall break a few days...
"how silly is god to make me a non-believer"
me, as a 8year kid
hey there people.i think that no fence to the pope. but the catholics are just abit wishy-washy. almost my entire family is cathloic cause they are almost all italian. go figure. and those people from the middle eastern countries that think to kill themselves for there god is right.
yeah i do agree those are man's 2 worst things to discuss.
so does cancer particularly although i think it was christ and politics are now taboo
