Sounds are easier for younger people to hear than they are for older people.
Humans can get sunburnt in the sun. True facts.
Also, there is a condition in which people sneeze from lights or sun, but I doubt you have that from your description. It's called the Photic sneeze reflex.
I believe vampires are in myths. If you are having any serious medical conditions, go to the doctor.

I quote you here- "But I do know how sunlight {and some bright artificial lights} affect me - it irritates my eyes, making them burn and water."
This seems like the sensation I get, however, you don't sneeze. Made me think of the condition. This is why I compared the two.

Childish.....?
That prove you don't understand what discussion is about. I will leave this open for now but another post like this from you will have your posting rights suspended. You put the topic up for folks to talk about, so let them. Or keep this in your journal.

... I'll take that as a complement. :)
I quote you again, last line- "What does your scientific mind make of this?"
My answers were down the scientific route. If you want links for sources- here you go:
Photic sneeze reflex
Hearing range
Hope it helps! :)
Whether someone thinks a vampire is fictional or real isn't relevant. Since the poster is asking in conjunction to those who claim to be vampirics now, a word I prefer, people in my social circles have talked about this one. Most who have these problems outside of sun sensitivity seem to be empathic so therefore one doesn't have to be a vamp to experience any of this but since I have always felt they could perceive higher frequencies or were at a higher frequency or both had problems with this. It is noted in various places that some people are affected in this manner. I am not sure the vampire connection is always recognized though. Most people don't pay attention to these things but I do know research has been done on people who live close to electrical lines and they can cause harm to some and others, they never notice it. Some who live near ley lines (they have various names) also have claimed to be affected. As to what percentage of the vampire community is affected in this manner I don't know but as a group maybe vamps are just more susceptible for reasons I have already cited. For non believers this does in all actuality come up often as a topic of discussion and a complaint that borders on various levels of illness from some of these things within the vampire community world wide.
Strong magnetic forces are well known to causes issues. Some places have laws to keep residential housing away from high power lines. Cell phones cause damage too but people still use them. I found a caused of my migraines to be from my water bed! The heater was located directly under my pillow. So, I turned the whole top part around and had the heater at the foot of my bed. No more headaches. Anything with electric has a magnetic field. Everyone is affected in some way.
Light affects everyone too. More to some than others. From mood changes to pain. It's called being Human; a condition that the weak cannot accept.
I'm a vampire, awakened about 6 months ago
the phonetic sneeze is interesting because I constantly sneeze, no matter where I am
cars are the main EMF producers that effect me, driving one becomes hard to stay focused because I can feel every last movement. I live on main street and can feel every one that zooms by, the ones with the obnoxious engines and no muffler are the worst
as for the light I'm out side or under one of those curly light bulbs for 10 minutes i'm practically knocked out
I only have about 25% hearing in my right ear and I still hear sounds that aren't audible to humans, they are the ones that cause the issues, the extra low pitched or high pitched ones especially, my mom's voice is rough and deep and it makes my head viberate and gives me the worst headaches. We fight about that because sounds cause issues that she can't hear, especially the sound of her tv coming through my wall
I am highly empathic, can't sit on the couch without falling asleep because so many have slept on it before, had a full on mental break down before because of the emotions of others. If I sit in a chair where someone recently cried or if someone around me is upset I'll feel that way too.
also my touch and smell are beefed up, if someone oh so gently rubs up against me or bumps into me I'll feel it and look at the person. The smell of a person is often the first thing I notice about them and kissing can be a night mare because I can pretty well smell their stomachs
example: my friend gives me her headphones to check out her dubstep beat, I comment on the smell of the headphones
I can feel auras, no one approaches me with surprise and it's easier for me to locate a person in a croud because I'll feel out their aura.
Sometimes if the vampire that's in my drama class just relaxes and lets his aura spread and be regular I'll feel him the whole time, just sitting there, but he's kind of shy and quiet so his aura affects that so that's good
*smiles* ah, how I missed the drama.
Anyway. As a fellow Vampyre myself I can say I do understand what you are talking about. In my school the heater, or possibly just some electrical system creates this noise, almost like a ringing but not quite. It makes me feel a little dizzy and often leads to a headache.
And sunlight and really bright lights ingeneral give my eyes a hard time adjusting. It takes only 10 minutes for me to sunburn. The best I can say on this is SPF 70.
Ok. Hope that helped lovies. And if you don't believe I'm cool with that too!
Bye bye
I do not consider myself to be a "vampire" by any stretch of the imagination, but I do have photosensitivity. This is a side effect of porphyria.
i am sensitive to lights and sound, smells, certain things like a computer fan or xbox or even a regular fan, can really drive me nuts to a point where i have to shut it off because of the sound its making v.v
There is an inherited trait of some people that causes high sensitivity. Not saying how valid this is or not but here is the link to the website if anyone would like to check it out.

It's no use, the OP has an allergic reaction to logic, from what I've witnessed in this thread..
Well I used to think I had a vampire nature due to my long list of symptoms that are very real and even had my Doctors baffled. I had months of blood tests, counseling, watch the ink blot tests.
Of course as the subject there was nobody more interested than me and my kin, luckily they are well read my sister is a Bsc Dr Microbiology etc.
Our best guess, and this is speculation, is that my Dna was always predisposed to be a predator with enhanced senses having a higher concentration of neanderthal, homo erectus (translated) the running wolf. Gene switches were activated through stress and several pain medications I was taking for an injury. My Doctors failed to realise 2 of these are KNOWN to cause hypersensitivity. Google tramadol, pregablin on wiki. The really strange thing is that the gene switches seem to have been ramped up or tripped by self proclaimed Hells Angels, coincidence? no they knew and I still do not know why? the fact one of them fell to their knees in a night club praying...hell, that was just weird, OR WAS IT ?
However, wiki does not YET recognise light sensitivity, skin sensitivity it does not yet mention red blood cell alterations or seeing in red and black.
As for EMF sensitivity this has been less of late, at its height extreme pain near power lines even cell phones.
This effect is well documented on line and in Norway if you are near a power line you have the legal right to have your house painted in EMF proof paint ! Anyway, Ive probably said too much.
Oh slight correction, I said wiki did not yet recognise light and skin sensitivity...it DOES.
A question, the pain experienced? was it in the frontal lobe above the eyes? Do not be influenced by this statement, it is a Test.
I have found that I share a lot of these sensitivities. I'm particularly sensitive to high concentrations of electricity, like the electronics department of a department store or a Wal-Mart. In fact, going to Wal-Mart is like an ordeal for me if I'm in the store for too long because, in addition to being vampiric, I'm also empathic, so I don not enjoy being in large crowds of people for too long. I can keep myself insulated for an hour, *maybe* two hours, but I get really antsy and soon find myself overwhelmed to the point of leaving the store without everything I need, just because I have to get out of that environment right-*then*.
I'm also sensitive to sound frequencies that go too high or too low and which keep a steady pitch for too long. This causes a nearly constant ringing in my ears, which-I-hate and makes me very susceptible to prolonged and severe headaches. I have extreme photosensitivity to light, especially sunlight, and have to wear what I call "black out sunglasses" over my eyes whenever I go outside, even on moderately overcast days. I even keep most of the lights off in my house due to my sensitivity to light as even artificial light can cause headaches for me if my eyes are exposed to it for too long.
Somebody said that all of these sensitivities could be caused by being empathic *or* by being vampyric. I don't think I can discern the root cause in myself, when choosing between the two, because I am both. I have no answers for this thread, unfortunately. I can only offer you the substantiation of shared experiences. This was a good set of questions to ask.
the sounds that are inaudible to most hurt worst
empathy and vampirism can go hand in hand, it sucks!
vampires commonly have sensitivity but just because you have them doesn't mean you are. I think regular people can be sensitive too.
*looks up*
I know how much it hurts to be both empathetic and Vampyric. The most I can say for you is when in large crowds try to see everyone through a block of ice or glass.
It can be overwhelming in big angry crowds, I hate doing christmas shopping, like an invisible scream through the senses.
Going"invisible" helps but then they just bump into you. Grrrr.
unlike you, I love social feeding, large crowds are the best, Black Friday and concert pits give me a sort of high.
I like social events but not large ones i get overstimulated easily
try wal-mart on black Friday, especially this past year with the sales starting at 8pm and others not til 10pm
though one thing I don't like is when you go to a show or performance and the speakers are so loud every noise out of them viberates through your entire body
this is on a personal note. I don't think there is anything wrong with you. I have to squint in direct sunlight. I hear ringing in my ears constantly. and I get horrible migraines. plus I sense all type of things and get the blood hunger. that doesn't mean I am sick or sensitive. I just deal with it. it isn't going to go away.
I agree, everyone has their issues in life, all you can do is find a way to cope with them
I can sense just about everything; each soul wise is different yet I can sense things especially with sea salt in my bathtube.
I also can talk to spirits and a walking EMF and not as sensitive to light; yet sound I am.
I can sense ghosts and talk to them; yet a walking blind man in front of them.
Light isn't much of a bother; yet it all depends on the soul I have at the time.
I really hope it isn't too late for me to be responding to this one, since it did catch my attention.
I have dealt with this kind of problem since I was little. I've been a re-awakened vampire/Vampyre since I was an infant. I suppose one could say that I was 'born' re-awakened (of which I will not get into that here).
The sensitivity to virtually any bright source of light is very common, amongst some people. Not only Vampyres. However, those most affected by it, as I have noticed, are those of the sanguine or Psionic nature. The stronger the "gene" in the individual, the more susceptible they are to it.
The same applies with sound, and very often with the sense of smell. Again, I have had this "condition", as some might call it, since I was an infant. As far as Vampyres are concerned, it is mostly the Sanguinarian who deals with a more heightened sense of smell, hearing and sight, because it is something that actually lies in their blood, though the cause of it, unless I am still missing something, is mostly undetermined by scientists. This is part of the reason why many other Vampyres I have met smoke almost profusely (of which, most tend to smoke only regular cigarettes or cigars, if they are trying to temporarily dull their sense of smell, due to the scent of perfumes, colognes, etc..)
As for the more sensitive hearing, this is actually something that has been found out, though my memory is a little etchy at the moment. But it relates to how the ear drums are either exposed to a "fraying" effect, making them more sensitive. But it is most often caused by something else, though again, what it is called escapes my mind, at the moment.
Those with lighter-coloured eyes tend to be more sensitive to the light, though it is not only limited to eye colour. Some Vampyres (be they Sanguinarian or 'psychic') can have a very, very dark eye colour, and yet STILL have a sensitivity to the light. The colour of the eye, though often a contributing factor, is only a pigment in the blood stream, which changes the colour of the eyes either at certain times, or just gives the eyes a permanent shade.
(In the point of hearing sensitivity, I, too, am able to hear very low frequencies, which range even to the sound of a dog whistle. I can also hear the frequencies of "EVP", which is one of the things that "Ghost Hunters" use in the detection of paranormal beings/Spirits.
I can smell just about anything, up to half a mile or more, sometimes, even if I am either upwind or cross-wind from what is giving off the scent.)
All in all, in my own experience, it mostly depends upon the strength of the "Vampyre Gene" in the blood (though, personally, I don't like using the term "genetics", simply because it shows a little too much science for my taste, and I never have agreed entirely with the "science" of some things.)
