What do people think of all these secret societies which are supposed to be out there? Freemasonry is well known about but there is lots more of these funny people.

Personally, I am glad I don't know about them. If they are "secret," they are none of my business.

Kind of silly really, I mean the idea of a secret society is to be secret yet a lot of these "societies" are publically know. Its basically just eliteism. Being a part of a "secret" society was something of a sign of status.

The world is filled with secret societies. They are prevalent in every so called civilized union. Many we have heard about…so their secrecy is moot, it’s the ones we do not hear about that are the most intriguing.
For instance, the U.S. government has it’s share of “secret” societies or organizations. They are called, for esthetic reasons….either divisions or sections that are incorporated into sub units of government Alphabet Agencies. The CIA is notorious for creating “sections” that are manned by former military “sociopaths” from Specialized units. They are also notorious in manning some “sections” that are filled with volunteers from “staged disasters,” individuals that are logged in as being KIA or MIA or KDME. These sections or “secret societies” of government have their own philosophies and rituals. These “sections” are tasked with the missions allocated by sub-rosa societies within the government. One of the most secretive and well organized societies within the government is at Bohemian Grove. Even though it is fashionably documented and well written about, the “society” contained within controls the world. What better place to conceal the obvious than in the open.

Some of the well known “secret” Societies

1. Skull and Bones
2. Freemasons
3. Rosicrucians
4. Ordo Templis Orientis
5. Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn
6. The Knights Templar
7. The Illuminati
8. The Bilderberg Group
9. Opus Dei

As long as mankind hangs on to the notion that things about themselves can't or shouldn't be shared there will always be secrets. In relatioinships , in buisness and yes life in general where there are secrets to be kept there will be people to keep them.
The more powerful the secrets the bigger the group protecting them. Powerful secrets usually mean powerful people and really who wouldnt want a wealthy friend they can call on when their butts hangin in the wind.

First of all I must say that I have no other source to confirm or deny the truth of the information I will present in this post.
According to a man who calls himself Dr Neruda there are few more organizations that weren't mentioned here.

ACIO - Advanced Contact Intelligence Organization - a secret government organization responsible for reverse-engineering acquired extraterrestrial technologies.

Labyrinth Group - secret branch of NSA working alongside with an extraterrestrial race called Corteum

He also mentions that most of the secret organizations are loosely connected with each other and are supervised by one group called Incunabula. This is what he says about them:

“Yes, they have influence, as do the Masons, and Skull and Bones, and twenty-seven other organizations that make up this loose-knit network of the elite, but the people who control the master plan are not directly affiliated with any one of these thirty organizations."

“The reality is that these organizations really operate in one of three forces that do have alignment under the controlling hand of the Incunabula.”

As I said this is the only source about these organizations I found. Is it true ? I have no idea.

the problem all secret societys have is that they are secret by defintion but have to publicise themselves to attract recruits.that ne is new to me by the way.every military and spy orginisation is technically a secret society.the illuminaty used to be very powerfull but its seems to have lost ground to the skull and bones.some say the wars the world hs been having are a reflectio of the secret wars of influence by the various secret societys.some are small and some are big.

Decent "secret" societies won't advertise themselves and will not look for recruits as they are mostly hermetic and membership is often based on bloodlines.

There is always a risk that some part of a secret society will be exposed. If that happens they'll usually try to protect themselves by spreading false information or by using 'plausible deniability' methods or alike.

Many people heard about the Illuminati but how many do actually know what they are doing or how does their structure really look like ? The deeper we go the harder it is to actually know what they are about. Same goes to other secret organizations. The lie is different at every level.

Some intelligence agencies might sometimes use cryptic ad's to find new members. The ad would say "interesting job. call xxxxxx"

If it is secret and known of then it really isn't that secret now is it? Maybe some of their activities and members, etc.

Peter Lavenda writes about Secret Societies and governmental conspiracies. He also wrote most of the Simon Necronomicon so he is good at misinformation and not so much secrets perse. I have heard of most listed but most groups that deal with fringe things don't want others to know their deepest secrets for many reasons whether connected to governments, fringe religious ideas or the occult among others. Some nutcase will believe they are saving someone or something from the groups and go on a rampage. Hence secrecy is sometimes nothing more than a necessity to keep those with mental health issues from going off on some tangent.

Like in every family, there is drama and always someone need to spill the been. Those secret societies, they were secret at one time, until someone got kicked-out and decided to tell the world about the "secret" within the group. Also, with the influence of the Internet, what those group keep as a secret, is now open: just Google it!! They are becoming more like an organization.

Considering how we discuss them, I find that it is a moot point to the word "secret" because honestly it is not working for them. *roles eyes* such a silly silly concept. No secret is secret for long.

Well said hiddendesires.

IMO this is the the true essence of a secret society. You can know their names, you might know their residences and have an idea about what they're up to. But the true secrets will always be well guarded.

they have tow sources of recruits.one is family members.the mafia is a good example and the other is people who really need some sence of emperwerment.they need to to feel they are part of a great and secret group which makes them feel big and powerfull.they may not actually really big and powerfull but they are in a group which makes them think they are.secret societys activly look for people with an insecurity complex.

A common practice involves hazing, this serves the purpose of leverage against those that would expose the society after leaving, or being exiled from the society. So hazing is usually something that involves criminal, or morally abject behavior.

Agreed, a primitive form of control.
Then there are the real heavies linked to crime syndicates even in Jersey.
Since the mid-1990s, the Camorra has taken over the handling of garbage disposal in the region of Campania, with disastrous results for the environment and the health of the general population. Heavy metals, industrial waste, chemicals and household garbage are frequently mixed together, then dumped near roads and burnt to avoid detection, leading to severe soil and air pollution.

Even the Italians think this was generally a short sighted foolish idea, Trees don't forget and rarely forgive

I think some secret societies like their secret being not so secret as to them it adds fame/infamy and gets people searching to join them. Though other than some cults, a few of these SS are just gatherings for tea and wine with some political crap mixed in.

Things are interesting sure but I'm not going to go out of my way to find out everything about something unless I'm mega interested in it like I am with heathenry.

There are many secret societies secret for a greater purpose. They protect doctrines that hold things I refuse to say because I believe in all that they are holding sacred.

There are loonies as you all may say, but there are also those that seek to keep secret certain discoveries that people would rip apart out of greed and what they can't see with close-minded eyes.

How deep the rabbit hole goes?

Remember the Belgium scandal for Peado's? It would seem "revolving door" quoted by UK politicians and senior Police still would not "open" when it came to sex attacks and hacking. I will wager the all went to Oxford and Cambridge or the notorious 1922 committee.

there are secrets and there are secrets. some things can be hidden in plain sight. for instance im aware that many masonic secrets have been revealed on the internet (an amazingly dishonorable act considering the oaths taken), but even so, if you dont know what the symbolism of those things are, then you have alot of strange words, and seemingly meaningless acts.
but then im just speaking up for the "loonies"

i think its because most of them that are still a secret stay so because what they believe in seems to unbeliveable that not a one person wants to believe that they are real . and this helps them to be talked about all the more and stay a true secret. not that the name of the group is secret but everything about them still is .

Freemasonry.

Today it is a brotherhood and it's rituals and ceremonies are kept secret from the public.

2B1ASK1

Since the Masons are a "brotherhood", and women are not allowed in, The Order of the Eastern Star is the female version of this brotherhood.

Most of the "secret" societies we hear about today are exaggerated by the press and the rest of the "unknowing" society, along with conspiracy theorists.

Skull and Bones was a Yale fraternity, nothing more. Conspiracy theorists blew that out of proportion.

The Illuminati began in 1776 and diminished 9 years later. There is no Illuminati now. Those that think there are, should be hog tied, and sat on fire.

The Golden Dawn and O.T.O. were not considered secret societies. In fact, they were much like an oathbound witches coven these days in the way they were closed off to the public for rituals and ceremonies. Their teachings, however, were vastly different.

I'll go on record to deny there's anything malevolant going on with the Bohemian Club.

Now, certain members may be involved in other associations that operate beyond the scope of the rest of the group... But that's not a function of Bohemia.

That's like saying all Southerners are KKK members simply because the clan originated in the post civil war South.

thats an over simplification. the truth is humans are social animals. there is a tendency to look to others for affirmation, so groups with like aims will form together. a secret society is such a club, but for various reasons they prefer to remain covert and hidden. it may simply be because they are breaking laws, or they fear how outsiders will judge them. many secret societies are quite harmless and innocuous. however - some are not so harmless. if the aim of such a group is to gain control of a population, an economy, or another group then it is obvious they are going to try to keep themselves and their activities secret.

many such secret societies are officially denied. for instance, the mafia were originally a secret society, and until the 20th century their existence was denied. the same is true of the ninjas - in fact as silly as it sounds the word ninja was a banned word in the UK until quite recently. the popular TV series about the pizza lovin turtles was called "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" here because it was illegal to call them ninjas (also, none of the toys were permitted little plastic nunchuks).

sounds silly - but there are two sides to secret societies - not only are they trying to remain a secret, but government censorship tries to diminish their influence by denial of their existence, which of course just adds to their appeal. many secret societies were once legitimate groups that were forced underground - such as the Templers, who were a religious order of Knights, and the Freemasons, who were a craft guild.

am i allowed to say that the templars did not die out - there are still isolated pockets. i once found ruins marked on a map and mentioned in history books as being a priory that was built by the Templars. curious to see it, i went to take a look around and found the grounds to be curiously neat and well kept. one tower was still standing and had an open door. inside was a Crusader museum, and the curator told me that he was one of the brethren that now owned the place, and that they were practicing Templars. I had heard that there were supposed to be still an order of Templars but didnt actually believe it til then.

Never heard of the Arcarnum, but mysdelf and a few other Sires including Oceanne were discussing the NSA, you know "No Such Agency"
Well, this is kinds topical nowadays.
I know several high up folks who feed into these peoples who do not exist, chuckles to himself.
I am not about to reveal all their secrets, it is beneath me, most truly believe in what they are doing.
BUT, here is my warning, actually it is my grandmothers warning "everything in moderation"

I know why you did it, I truly understand, but the "Ways and Means Act of 1872" is being over used.

This secret society is over stepping the line, in the trade we call it "Fishing" for crime.

By outsourcing data and collection agencies are subverting the Law, something I warned of in 2009.

Moreover, trolling emails and acting as agent provocateur is most definitely dodgy, and needs to be reigned in now the terrorist threat is diminishing. :) The end does not not always justify the means...full stop...balance in everything.

secret societies have always existed from one time to another so i don't think it's a huge deal i just think it's a way to keep certain beliefs sacred and certain traditions away from prying eyes

it's simply human nature. people are social - they form groups because we are stronger as groups than as lone individuals. if we want our group to be open and grow by persuading as many people as possible to join, then that group is publicized. if on the other hand, one wishes to keep the group small and select, then it is prudent to try to keep it secret. if the activities of the group are likely to attract too much criticism, then it's activities should be kept secret. in any case, it is always prudent, not to mention fun to have secrets - it makes one feel special.

even as children, we all had secret gangs, with our own little secrets - be it some sort of ritual, or a swearing an oath to secrecy. be honest, who among us never did that as a child?

True secret societies and organizations are just that... secret. We don't know of them and likely never will. They don't recruit but, instead, admit members after first vetting then carefully and approaching them cautiously. Think of it more like how intelligence organizations approach those few they wish to add as spies in foreign countries...or a police approach to be confidential informants. Crude examples, yes...but far more accurate than using Freemasonry as an example, which is hardly a secret society.

Another key component of a true secret society...is its age. Almost without exception, the older the society the more secret it is. The oldest secret society of which I am aware is probably the oldest of them all, predates Dynastic Egypt and was directly responsible for Christianity as we know it, today, and is still at the head of the Vatican to this day. It is also the most secret. They do not recruit at all; they don't need to. Most truly secret societies don't.

Another key factor is that most truly secret societies exist so a to engage in secret activities toward a common secret and, usually, subversive end. This pretty well defines what a conspiracy is.

One aspect of secret societies could be that you know of their existence and know certain things about them, but do not know what goes on inside their walls and do not know any ritual/s associated with them. Those exist. Many of them have "open mottos" that are known to those outside of the society but also have closed mottos and rituals that do not pass outside the group. I have been a member of such a society since 1992 and while most people know I am a member and they know what I represent, they do not know, nor will they ever without joining, what goes on inside the society.

When incompetence tales the power it doesn`t necessary need a group in a corrupt society. When the democracy it`s strong they need to form groups and impose their rules. It`s very hard to fight with the organized crime and these kind of societies may harm/hurt people in the name of their ideas and some in personal interest.
When they grab the power to do evil they will be hard to fight with. Usually they don`t have an organized opposition besides the state. They have only competition(other societies of the same kind).

BUT what happens when they grab the state powers? Well, that will take down after them an entire society in the name of general good but in fact to hurt/harm/kill people.

The people who have a heroic imagination as Dr. Zimbardo describes, would know how to do to ruin the evil schemes. Usually secret societies doesn`t have good purposes and they can escalate the stairs of evil until the mass suicide(unfortunately it happened).

So stay away of anything evil and secret and practice the heroic imagination.I`m sure you`ll need that sooner or later.
Power, and mostly secret power(because it gives the illusion that you can never be punished for your deeds) has an enormous power of fascination.

That`s the site of Dr. Zimbardo:

I think there will always be "secret societies" of some sort or another. In some ways I believe it to be part of a humans basic desire to be a part of something "special and unique. There's nothing wrong with that unless one uses that membership to put another down.

I am an ordained minster in a secret society that hides in plan sight, in fact it openly acknowledges that it is a cult.
