Okay, does anyone remember Kolchak the Nightstalker from the 70's I want to say?
It was a little campy but I thought it was excellentlly done and Chris Carter has listed it as inspiration for the X-Files. (Actually Kolchak star Dereck McGavin appeared in several episodes as the first agent to investigate the X-Files)
What did you think of the original and how do you think the remake Nightstalker compares.
Personally I had high hopes for the new show and have been a little let down.
You should check it out sometime. The old ones come on Sci Fi and Trio every now and then and the new show is on ABC on thursdays.
I didn't know the new one was on yet. By the way this is in the wrong spot.
the orignal is GREAT...I saw the sucky assed re-make....it has nothing on the original and Stewart Townsand can't act his way out of a wet paper bag...he is NO Kolchak
The new store is alright... not what I thought it would be though.
I used to watch the original religiously. Nobody ever believed Kalchak. Ever. And when he wrote his stories he hid the truth in his words. The only real problem I have with Nightstalker is that people are to accepting of the wierd shit that is happening. I don't believe the actors that don't believe Townsand's Kolchak. I'm willing to give it some time for it to develope the characters. Its about what I would expect for a modernization of a classic.
for some reason and i do not know why but i like the 70's series better than the new remake
I"ve never heard of this show and Stuart Townsend is an excellent actor I think but i didnt see him in the remake so I cant say how his acting was in that
sigh as campy as the original is now it was great in the 70's when it debuted I have only seen a couple episodes of the remake and find that it may have merits on its own but should have used a different title becuase if you compare the 2 as being the same the new verison just doesnt come close to the original
I used to watch the original, I do belive it was on Fridays. I loved that show. When I heard the Promo for Night stalker I thougt they were reruns. What a ripp. Nothing like the fisrt one.
I completelly agree with Sebastion and Wolfspirits. Townsend's Kolchak just doesn't cut it. He's too broody one minute and then he's teasing Gabriel Union, and not being funny, the next.
I think it was the campiness of the original that made it great.
god, here I go showing my age again- I remember the series very well-it is occasionally shown in re runs on sci fi and a few other channels-I loved it- it was campy, but it gave me a lot of fun watching it, as did dark shadows mentioned in another thread, and *gasp* the series cliff hanger, where I was introdiced to Michael Nouri as Dracula, and learned a fine appreciation of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata
In the original Nightstalker,Kolchak took his own pics and did the interviews alone,in the remake he has a boy take pics for him and Union does most of the interviews,I don't like that....the classic is still best
Classic is definentlly the best. I all ways liked the fact that he couldn't tell any body else.
Sorry I never caught the Dracula cliffhanger though.
Kolchack was awesome..infact I got a pic of the "vampire" in my profile.....he is snarling at the cross....I loved that movie..the best tv vampire movie of all time....
The thing I find so wierd is the age difference between the old Kolchack, and the new one. I always remembered him as the weathered old reporter, not some young hot guy. But, I don't mind seeing Stewart Townsend every week.
the old one was pretty good, although now effects and camera things might make it a bit better or crap. either way.
Yes, I remember the original Nightstalker... I was looking forward to watching the new one when I heard about it, but haven't watched it. The vibes are all wrong!!!
And from what I've read here, I won't be watching the remake in the future... Kolchak with ~assistants~? Come on!!! It changes ~everything~ because the modern main character is waaaaay off from the original. It wasn't about how attractive or unattractive Kolchak was, it was about his search for the truth when he knew the rest of the world would think he was nuts!!! In some weird way, the original Kolchak was one of us~
I was to young when the orignal one came out so i don't remember it I happen to love stewart but the show was good at first and a couple of of them bombed i am hoping that it gets better...That and supernatural are to of the most watched shows here
Supernatural is a pretty well done show, no complaints there.
But oh how they failed with Nightstalker. I think the only real similarity is that both Kolchaks drive mustangs.
But wait Townsend drives an orange 2005 model. Wtf?
lol that is funny Maybe the director of the show is color blind?
And the biggest change is that the re-make is set in L.A. not Chicago like the original
Was Kolchak's wife killed in the original. Was he even married? I don't remember any mention of it.
the new one seems like it is searching for direction in the story line. it seems like the writers don;t know if htey wantot explain of leave it to our imaginations what is really happening. i like it, though i have never seen the original.
I like the new show, more presently done u know...the old one is old fashioned
but i cant say i dont like both :)
i loved the old one and am a bit dissapointed that they have tweaked it and taken away from how the origional was. but i am biased because i love stuart townsend and i happen to be enjoying the new night stalker
K im not going to be popular here.. but i like them both.. I remember the first one all too well, and i adored that show.. the new one is not at all like the old one.. and i think that is why i can be objective and say i like both.. times have changed and they just tried to mix it up to suit the viewing audience...the new one has good points but i do agree it can be quite cheesy sometimes and this kolchack, is not quite as involved as in the old one.. he spends more time looking brooding and dealing with his own demons.. but i still like it too.
Wow. I feel .. stupid now. Lol I didn't know there was an original series.
Yes, I believe his wife was killed in the original series... It was part of the reason he pursued the truth so relentlessly...
ORANGE? (shudders) Oh, I ~hope~ you are kidding!!
whoa! you mean Carl Kolshak I luv'd that show, great for it's time, but the "X-Files was pretty good to.
Hold on folks... there's a re-make? I didn't know that! Where is it being shown? I've seen the original on Sc-Fi & I love it, but I had no idea they had a remake of it. Where have I been? LOL.
It was on ABC...not sure when it is on now...haven't seen it on in 2 weeks
indeed i do. i watch the original every Friday. tis one of favorite series.
Really? What channell does the original come on now? I haven't seen it on sci fi latelly.
just in case you guys didnt know yet, but they have taken the nightstalker off the air for low ratings
I haven't heard of it...
I did watch early X-files episodes but didn't notice the "first agent" O_O
That avatar haunts my dreams first of all. Pennywise*shivers*
Aurthor Dales, the first agent, popped up in the ocasional flash back episode. I think he was three that I know of. Ever see the one where the alien plays baseball? That's him.
I can't get into the new one because I am too fond of the old.
