Has anyone ever noticed the similarities between Anne Rice's Lestat and Spike from "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer"? Both seem to be a little more on the wild, untamed side of things - more animalistic, I should say. Compared to Louis and Angel, Lestat and Spike appear to come from the same bloodline of vampires. I was just curious if anyone else noticed how much alike these two different vampires are?

I've never seen a similarity actually. Feisty and blonde would be it.
Lestat would kick the living shit out of spike any day and i have to say that i never seen anything remotely simuler about the both of them.
I have noticed a similarity, and Spike would own Lestat any night of the week.
Honestly, I would have to put my money on Spike, only because he is more of a physical fighter than Lestat is. Also, Spike fights on pure aggression cuz he is too easily pissed off. Remember when Louis was trying to fight him? Lestat was laughin his ass off like it was the funnist thing he'd ever seen! Which, that's still one of my favorite scenes in "Interview", just cuz I love his laugh.
From my previous response, I meant to say "Remember when Louis was trying to fight him(him being Lestat)?" cuz I made it sound like Louis was trying to fight Spike. Which, Louis would still get his ass kicked either way, lol.
Lestat would lay Spike flat. We all know that fantasy is stronger than fiction because fiction has to play to peoples likes, fantasy can play to everything!
Isn't fantasy a part of fiction? The two are intertwined. At least, I believe they are. And um, I know I voiced my input on this as well but, when did this thread become a "Lestat vs. Spike: Who'll Kick Who's Ass"? lol I don't mind, I was just hoping others would respond with their opinions more on whether or not they saw similarities between the two characters.
Both characters do what they dare with no thought to the consequences but Lestat does it with flair and style. Spike does it with sarcasm and a british accent.
They're two of the coolest vampire characters out there but Lestat would kill Spike in a second. With Akasha's blood in him he could burn Spike to dust with out ever getting close to him.
Sorry to take this there, I know it isn't what you intended but they started it. :p
I appreciate your input tho! lol Cuz like, you at least added some detail to it and explained their different styles and everything. :)
And um, am I the only one who's noticed the "superficial" similarity that both vamps are uber-sexy? haha, I had to say it! :-p
As much as I like both characters, and both being sexy......having drunk Akasha's blood Lestat would win...
i think there are bound to be similarities, the average "vampire" can only do so much in TV and books due to the old stories like Anne Rices books and Dracula. There's always going to be similarities. You can connect any modern day vampire character with someone from a book or story, its just because those things need to stay the same, otherwise it wouldn't be a vampire...
Yeah Spike would kick Lestat's ass... but they both are like the "new wave" cyber vamp type.... And so are a lot of us on VR!!
i've never understood the obsession with a novelists character, but it seems to be dominant
I to dont see the similarity the closest I can come to agreeing with this thead is..If they were characters in a Vampire the Masquerade game, then they would more than likely either be Brujah or Caitiff
Aye I see a similarity between these two characters. They seem to be from the same bloodlines, and seem to have many things in common in how they are, however Spike is a little more sarcastic. Both seem to have that and attitude and an show off flair to them both. So I see where you came up with this topic
Apart from the fact that I wouldn't turn down a threesome involving them (sorry tp inject the dirtiness here, but i'm sure others are thinking the same;) I have noticed a couple of similarities, mainly the fact that they both have a spark of humanity in them. Lestat mentions love several times in his book, and of couse now Spike has his soul and stuff..plus the fact he's in love with Buffy (lucky gal!), and they're both essentially loners, despite endeavouring to surround themselves with kin.
Yes I have indeed noticed the extensive similarities in these two specific vampires, glad to see it wasn't just my imagination nor jus me whom saw it.
i cant see the similarirty...lestat is a lover not a fighter - opposite to spike...lestat loves the humancoil and would only ever feed and kill the evil doer - spike didnt care untill he couldnt and theres tons more things to list...they both kick ass and are gorgeous...but spikes based on billy idol, well, billy idol's based on spike and lestat is nothing like that...the simmilarity in my eyes is just that they're both adorable and know it...
hmmmmm, I don't see the similarity either.
besides the mentioned "hot and they know it"
lestat though to me, was colder for different reasons than spike.
I feel Lestat's path of experiences made him a different shade of dark and that kind is of a tougher metal...
But, they are both very adorable. Though I rather a different look they are sweet to look at.
I think the main similiarity is that they are not whine bitchs. Unlike their counter parts louis and angel.
I would honestly say Lestat would own spike... he's just badass like that
in all honesty i think its just a similarity but not taken from one or the other.
if you think about it, alot of charactures who have that "bad ass" exterior all seem to be alike in one way or another
dont watch buffy so have no knowledge of spike, but lestat i know well.
this spike must be one deep character to even be mentioned in the same sentence as lestat.
but i shall never know, buffy will never be on my tv.
I don't know if they are similar but:
The naughty rebellous vampire is the latest trend after all.Characters like that are found in any fiction cause they make it more interesting and sadly repetitive.
Since we're talking tv and books here..I guess I can look at it this way. For me..it would be easy to say that Lestat would woop Spikes beached blond ass in no time flat. In both that series and in Anne Rices books(and most fictions)...age in the vampire translates to greater strength. Not to mention he's british..I can't find it in myself to be intimidated by a british accent. The similarities have been remarked on..though in personality and motivation I see a whole world of difference.
