knowing the fact that jesus was betrayed by judas at night, and Adam and Eve were forced out of the Garden of Eden on a stormy night.
Prolly because night is always associated with bad things. Seeing that vampires were/are viewed as "evil monsters" being banished to the darkness probably seemed fitting. Another way to seperate things that are more connected that many think with stereotypes and generalizations. Just a thought.
See, vampirism is associated with darkness.
So, let's do the math: vampirism + darkness = night.
There's your answer.
In books, movies they have made Vampires part of the night. Just another possibility here.
With all due respect, I am having trouble correlating your examples to your topics. What were you trying to say with reference to Adam, Eve, Judas, and Jesus?
I think mythological vampirism rests heavily on very serious problems with the sunlight.
Many "modern" vampires do also have, sometimes extreme, sensitivity to sunlight; hence nighttime activity makes sense.
I don't even understand how the post explains your question! It seems more like here is the answer kind of thing. If your going to post make it a little more understandable.
Sevenn is right... It is based on a disease that has the same characteristics of vampirism, which includes sensitivity to light... Obviously, not all vampires are sensitive... Look at me! I just got a suntan yesterday, so obviously it is a false fact(for most) or I would be dead right now...
I am photo sensitive..Meaning my eyes need to be shaded during the day i used to get quiet sunburned then as well but lately something has changed I can go out during the day....Although my Life Partner is drained during the day which is so totally funny because he is afraind of the night when he can venture forth...I believe the beliefs of the moderns comes out of Hollywood..Love movies but they can mess people up so badly...This is my opinion we each have one
tomorrow i will put in my real post..its to long to explain..i did have a long explanatoin, but my server wasn,t responding so i lost it
i have a sesitivity to light the sun hurts my eyes and my skin if you look at my pics you see i have my sun glasses with me at all times it hurt me just to take them off for the pictures i say people just watch to much TV and make their own ideas about vamps and the night i wish i was a true vamp but i am not and still me and the sun do not like each other hum so i don't know?
Was the question directed towards the people of VR or the historical basis??
Of course there is the stigma of the night. Darkness and shadows, the unknown. LOL. But, as writers developed the Vampire they made it so they hid in the night like they were ashamed of what they had become.
Me...I love the night...the mystery of it, especially in the summer and when the warm mist falls. It is my time, when I feel more alive...but that is another story.
Vampires are mysterious..The night has always held mystery.
For me it's cause the night is associated with the ''evil'' things.
I'm going for the questions directly, Jesus was betrayed by judas at night because it was after the last supper not lunch, no jokes apart I don't see any coincedencies intended or not here, it's a historical event (or not) which had to happen at that time which placed night as the ideal time for Jesus arrest.
I personally never heard that when adam & eve were forced out from the garden of eden it was on a stormy night. Can you enlighten me a qoute to enlighten me?... and not from a movie scene please.
Vampires were never accepted and therefore for the to lurk and live it must be at night so that they can be hidden from all that wanted them gone. I realize there are many disorders where alot cannot go into the sunlight without getting skin rashes and etc,,,,Besides nightime is when its more peaceful and easier to appreciate the beauty of the unknown. This is my opinion as it may not makes sense but is the best I can do to explain my reasons. *smiles*
To be honest, I'm just more comfortable in the dark. When I'm in the sun, I burn... Badly. The only problem with night for me is that my eyes hurt when driving. Stupid oncoming headlights...
I dont like bright sunlight...since I have photosebsitive eyes, have to wear shades when I go out....the night is much better than the day.....the lack of crowds, the stars, the Moon...all lovely....
i have heard loads of stupid stuff lately.. sorry to sound harsh.. but makes me kind of freak... i have heard tha vampires are allergic to garlic (sure.. so everyone who is allergic to garlic is a vampire.. big time) ... also about the sentivity of the sun... many people use sun glasses or have sentivity to the sun.. that makes them a vampire?
i think that we should read and then make out oen idea of things.... as i have read loads of misleading info lately
I'd like to clarify...I never said my sensitivity to sunlight ahd anything to do with vampirism...I was just explaining why the night is better than the day.....thats all.
dakini - i wasnt referning to you i apologize if this was intentede like this... but i usually get this stupid comments from poeple that say they are real blood sucking vampires with fangs...
once again i apologize for any misunderstanding
I believe the disease being referred to is called Renfield's syndrome, which defines people affected with blood-drinking compulsions, autovampirism, and zoophagia. Although, light sensitivity is not a symptom of Renfield's syndrome, nocturnal sleep patterns are very common. Any obsessed blood-drinker would obviously choose nighttime as the most appropriate time to hunt a victim, so why not sleep all day if you've been up all night drinking blood?
Personally I feel there are many reasons to feed into this. Reasons made up with the concept of evil, photosensitivity and the pure fact that they are predators. Also over the years much has been unknown or "in the darkness as it were" about vampires. Lets face it it's far easier to Psyc someone out in the darkness where they can't see 5 feet ahead of them then broad day light.
So, evil things happen at night sometimes...And people relate vampires with evil. And night is also dark. Vampires="Dark&Evil" apparently, so therefore, night and vampires.
The are many answer's to your question...some of them are right some of them are wrong...but Vampires & night are put together because evil things come out to play at night and most people see vampires as evil monster's...for example the boogey man...people say he only comes out at night..or the tooth fairy..only comes at night...(ok the tooth fairy was OTT...but do you get what i'm tryin gto say)....And the reason people think like this is because hollywood...films portray vampires as night creature's...but how do we know for sure that vampires only come out at night...they could also be day dwellers too...theres alot we dont know or understand!
I would also have to agree with satinmist on this subject.
because vampires in myth are evil creatures and evil is associated with darkness and good with the light...myself I prefer the darkness...less strain on my eyes and skin....lol
Darkness hides predators. Shadows speak to the unkown and the fearful...standard archetypes in action
Darkness, negativity, mystery, and death have always been associated with the night. Sunrise, sunset- death is sunset. One of my favorite songs, The Last Sunrise by Aiden= the last time you're able to see a sunrise. Whether by turning into a vampire or dying completely, I don't know what they meant, but Night has always held that sort of meaning throughout history.
TangNMare- exactly my point. History has created these archetypes of dark and light, good and evil, masculine and feminine and the vampire is the classic dark figure. The embodiment of fear, instinct, evil, etc...so it's associated with the night or darkness.
i am by no means a vampire, but my views on them i wont explain because it causes such an argument, but for some reason i feel more energized at night, and i hate and cant get up in the morning too well i hate it.
it seems that if i have a job at night i can work my whole shift without getting tired. and then in the morning when i go to sleep and got to go back in the next morning i have no problems even if i only sleep a couple hours, but it seems to be the opposite if i am working dayshift
I'm guessing that night is afiliated with vampires and other things is because their considered dark. The night is dark and supernatural's are dark as in evil. People associate this things because they don't understand anything unless they've learned about them or already knew what they were.
Ok vaundraco, correct me if I'm wrong .. but is what your asking and the response in your very first post YOUR reasoning as to why Vampirism is associated to night or darkness ... are you therefore asking other their oppinion's as to why? Or are you asking for "historical" truth as to why the two are associated???
"historically" I can't say or back up why the two are intertwined .. but to give my oppinion ... this is in many ways similar to asking the question .. why is blue, blue? Or red, red? Someone, somewhere in telling a tale interwove the tale in with darkness, one person tells another then another and so on ... in the end through many twists and turns it comes to pass that vampirism becomes a thing associated to the night
Probably from movies and books, in a lot of Folklore and Mytholgy vampires could walk in the day.
I myself am sun sensative and am more comfy in the evening time, it seems to be when I have more energy and is somehow more peaceful.
I agree 100% with Rowiel. But it is probably also due to Hollywood's perception of Vampire "demeanor" (for lack of a better word).
even think that they just like the dark?...lol but yea since people think of them as evil creatures i guess the dark is fitting
2 things... alot of people just like the dark, and number two... in scientific terms, and blagh blagh blagh, alot of the drinking blood is associated with a disease in which the body dosent make enough heoglobin and other things, those things that it cant produce normaly help the body in carrying oxygen and other things so you skin (which is an prgan) doesnt get irritated by the suns heat, radiation, brightness, ect. when you dont have those major things produced in your body, you certaintly dont wana cause ur self harm. so then theyd go out at night. and this is also corresponding to why drinking blood is important, cause either it works, or w/e but ur taking someone else blood that does have those products in them, thus giving you the products andsuch in your system, and since your system isnt use to that much of it, then it kind of acts as a stimulant, thus far giving you that energy surg... mind you that this is a theroy of it, but if you really know about this kind of stuff, then in some ways it makes enough sence. im not sure if i was exactly correct on it, but i know its along those lines.
