Today, I was doing some research and reading online and came across the story of Lilith.
According to Jewish folklore, Lilith was the first wife of Adam. She was banished from the Garden of Eden when she refused to make herself subservient to Adam.
When she was cast out, she was made into a demon figure, and Adam was given a second wife, Eve, who was fashioned from his rib to ensure her obedience to her man.
Does anyone know more about her? I am very curious, I had never heard of Adam having any other wife than Eve.

That's pretty much all I know about her. She also appeared in Mesopotamian mythology - I think she's supposed to be the same Lilith as the Biblical one. She's mentioned only very briefly in the Bible.

In some stories I have read Lilith was the 1st vampire. But I'm not sure if that is true.

http://www.tylwythteg.com/dynionmwyn/lesson1/thirteen13.html

This website is where the following came from:

It is said that Lillith was the twin sister of Adam and dwelt with him in the Garden at Paradise. Adam was king of Eden and Lillith wished to be co-ruler with him, but the Lord of Light permitted it not. Lillith was beautiful and wise. She wearied of her brother, Adam, who was less wise than she. Lillith refused to bear children from Adam. The Lord of Light was angered and turned Lillith out of Paradise. Samuel, an angel of the Lord of Light and a son of god, fell in love with Lillith. To Samuel, Lillith bore three half-god, half-human children, all called the nephilim. Their wisdom, power and beauty was so great that the children of Darkness were afraid of them and called them monstrous names to defile them. Lillith would not be defiled. From her beloved Samuel she learned the wisdom of the Lord of Light and became the first witch. She lived as a daughter of the night mother, calling the people to dance and be joyous by the light of the moon. Her symbol was the night owl, and those who followed her called her Arionrhod. The children of Darkness trembled and barred their doors at night seeking to protect themselves lest Lillith take them and teach them the ways of the wise ones, the witches of old.

This is all very interesting. So some believe she was a witch and others believe she was the mother of all vampires or maby even the first vampire. I am going to have to do much more research on this subject to find out exactly who she was, I find this all so interesting. Thank you all so much for your posts and information.

I agree with Elemental, however, when caine killed abel and was sent to the land of nod, long after samuel died and the nephilim had ascended, he and lilith met up and begat 7 sons (hence the 7 deadly sins)...of these sons, one had a lust for blood so powerful that he wandred the land of nod for 1,000 years feeding on the blood of others.

So everyone is right. Lilith is both the mother of the nephilim (highly magickal entities/demi gods) and she is also the mother of the vampyr nation.

Indead, Lilith was Adams first wife, but by refusing to be subserviant she was cast from Eden first.

She is often taken as the patron of strong women everywhere.

There is a character like lilith is Mesopotamian Mythology, but then again, unlike Christian Mythology, women were not considered inferior.

Much Mesopotamian Mythology finds its way into the bible however, everything from creation, to the great flood to the end of the world, but through a slightly distorted looking glass of time.

The Qabalistic theory parallels traditional Judiasm on the subject. She was cast out, because Adam was a pompous jerk. She wandered and had adventures of her own, and unlike Adam, wasn't afraid to use her natural abilities, which seemed like magick (assuming it was wisdom learned or whatnot).

She's not the same person, but if you 'categorize' deities, she's on the same rack as Isis and Nepthys, along with many others.

Here's some information I have on Lilith, from the following link:

http://www.theisticsatanism.com/CoAz/belief/risingGods.html#Lilith

In medieval Jewish demonology, Lilith was considered to be the queen of the demons, the wife of Satan/Samael, and the mother of succubi.

In recent decades, Lilith has attracted quite a few worshippers, including not only some Satanists but also some Pagans and quite a few ethnically Jewish feminists. See, for example, The modern Lilith on The Lilith shrine.

The vast majority of Lilith's worshippers are not Satanists. Yet they celebrate a medieval myth of Lilith that is remarkably similar to the Islamic myth of Satan/Iblis. Lilith and the Islamic Satan were both said to have disobeyed God in the exact same way, namely by refusing to bow down before Adam.

Today, Lilith is seen by many as a feminist role model. Her worshippers today also associate Her with sexuality and sexual freedom, especially nonreproductive sex and various traditionally forbidden forms of sexuality.

Lilith's traits, as seen both in medieval legend and by her modern worshippers, correspond closely to social trends of the past century, especially the past several decades. We regard Lilith as the rising Queen of our age. In 1966 C.E., Anton LaVey proclaimed the beginning of the "Age of Satan," which could more accurately be called the Age of Lilith.

Until around 1970 or so, Lilith had always been seen as a malevolent demon, nothing more. She is now seen by many people in a more favorable light, though still associated with "infernal" imagery. We believe that the relationship between Lilith and human society has in fact changed, thanks to modern technlogy. The things associated with Lilith today - including sexual freedom, nonreproductive sex, and feminism - are all very much affected by the level of technology. In many older societies, sexual freedom would have been inescapably deadly. In today's world, it need not be deadly as long as people make responsible use of the relevant technologies.

Lilith today is also associated with the modern, glamorized image of "vampires" in an era which has forgotten the utterly unglamorous origin of the vampire myth. Vampire beliefs were originally a superstitious explanation of the many deadly contagious diseases that have since been wiped out by medical technology. "Vampires" today are associated with the dream of eternal youth, a dream with which many people today are obsessed, and which may someday be attained via medical technology. Until then, even the modern glamorized "vampire" remains an "infernal" creature. If and when the dream of eternal youth is ever attained, it would certainly deal a heavy blow to Christianity and Islam, given their focus on an alleged afterlife, and it would also almost eliminate any need for reproductive sex.

Of all the rising gods of the modern West, Lilith is the one associated with those facets of modern Western culture that are under greatest attack by Abrahamic fundamentalists and traditionlists. For that reason, our ritual call to the rising gods focusses more on Lilith than on the other rising gods.

this was sound weird but beforew going on vr I never had heard of the name or the story of Lilith.... and I had studied the bible and the history and archeological facts of ti and never heard of it... but I am learning since I am here as I now expend more and indeed it is pretty large info. Still I am a bit secptic tho sorry dont mean to be rude at all to anyone...I still want to found out mroe before I would say I beleiv eor not, but one thing is sure their is alot of writing about her.
As for the fact that the reason she was toss away or she left Adam becuase she refuse toserve him and be submissive this is a thing that is unanimus everywhere no one says otherwise. The rest is all divers, some say she was the mother of all vampires others she was just a demon and others say she was alone and lonely all her life as an outcast rejected. so its so divers it is i hard to find the right info.

I've always felt that Lilith represents a time when women held equal governance and rights with men in the distant, distant past.

The story of Lilith and Adam could have been used to depict a time when Adam or men pushed women out of an equal status and though some accepted this fate (Eve), others chose to leave rather than supplicate themselves (Lilith). The story was a way of showing that attempting to become superior over women led to man's fall from grace in the world and ultimately led to mankind's suffering...since it was Eve (the supplicant woman Adam wanted) who made the error of listening to the serpent instead of thinking for herself and thereby dooming them both...a mistake Lilith (an equal who thought for herself) would not have made.

if you want to beleave in the biblical version of things Cain was and still is the first vampire but didnt have any of the powers that most people now beleave comes from being a vampire directly all he had for him was immortality and a thurst for blood it wasnt until he meet lilith that he was awakend to the real world and with her help was able to learn diffrent powers and then more on his own

as for lilith she was the very first pagen, witch, ect. what ever you want to call. she was not immortal until after she meet cain and only after years of being apart and again finding each other did he make her in to a vampire but can already had many childer at that time

so lilith was the burth of the vampirean powers and the pergeniter of the vampirean legacy after cain left this world for the land of nod again

Lilith is the mother of power, pagens and all other forms that go agains god after the fall of lusifer

thats if you want to fallow the biblical version if not than theres so many storys about Lilith i wouldnt even try to tell them all

Thank you Elemental. I have little basis for that theory other than the knowledge that man has had a very patriarchal society that has demonized independent women coupled with the belief that most religious and mythological stories might be a way of marking an older period of time with archetypes that may have been referencing entire groups of people and not just one person.

It's similar to believing that rather than being the father or a great son of Sparta (like their myths), Hercules (and early Hercules stories) depicted the whole of Sparta itself or an earlier version of a strong military state.

BeautifullySadistic,

All excellent points and information which you present.

Lillith and the Nephilim are, in Judeo-Christian doctrine, very seperate concepts.

The Nephilim were reputedly the descended beings from fallen angels and the daughters of men, nothing to do with Lillith at all.

The association, was, as several have pointed out, first made by the White Wolf RPG storyline, drawing from many elements of various religious concepts.

I bought the book of Nod because it was a piece of artistry, but no more than that, in my opinion.

There are many legends about Lilith much coming from the Talmud. She really isn't connected to Christianity but it is said that way back they considered her and offspring to be Succubi and not vampires. There is no connection up until modern times at the advent of the Gothic movement and others that Lilith had anything to do with Vampires. Some say they came via Caine due to his curse or mark but we don't know if this was in reference to a birthmark that would be involved with that bloodline. In some legends Cain is the son of Lilith and Samael and given to Eve to raise and she thinks he is a gift from God. There are many legends none of which has been picked as the one that is authentic.

I hear many talk about The Land of Nod. It's a metaphor for a nomadic lifestyle. The wilderness basically is Nod. There is no book of that. The book is only with gaming.

He wandered around until he built his cities. Some say they were destroyed due to different depravaties and other lore says they were jealous that he successfully built several prosperous cities. You know how legend goes with those that certain groups don't like. They paint a picture of evilness about the person and they are destroyed or end up being called a demon.

Here are two sources on Lilith legends. Most don't know about her because Christians don't teach about her. If I tried to write on all the legends that surround her and her offspring this post would be very, very long.

what I had gotten was that Lilith was the first wife of Adam and the mother of Cain. Lilith growing tired of Adam not wanting to be a bit more sexually adventurous tried to run away from the garden of Eden so god sent 3 angels to bring her back but she fell in love with one of them sprouted wings and flew off with him.
