The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

I was watching a documentary on Vampire history etc etc. On the History channel i believe. Has anyone else seen this? And if so what are your thoughts on it?

It would be more helpful if you would post the channel, country, contributers, what they discussed, etc, otherwise, how is anyone going to be able to 'guess'?

As it turns out the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, and sometimes the Travel Channel all have documentries that discuss vampires...

While the redramitization that occurs in these types of documentries can be entertaining, they certainly do not disclose break through news on vampires in historical or sociological context.

Oooh.

This would be the one which propogates the idea that Christians are linked with vampirism due to the holy communion? ("...eats my flesh and drinks of my blood will have eternal life.")

And I believe the technique they use is called 'psycho-historical perspective'.

In other words, dramatising, or jazzing up a subject for better entertainment of it.

I abhor the history channel, personally.

I have seen several different documentaries on each of these channels. I do believe there is truth to the shows. I particularly liked the one that spoke of Vlad the Impailer from Transilvania. I found some of the information very disturbing especially the parts about his reign of terror and battle tactics.

My friends and I don't refer to the History Channel as the "Hitler Channel" for nothing...

I dont care to see it personally...

I disagree. I found this less interesting than fog. With about the same effect upon the understanding of vampire history.

I love fog. :)

But I think for someone who's not been terribly successful at doing their own research, these shows provide a pretty decent overview and occasionally have little gems of knowledge that may have been missed by other shows or books.

These shows aren't directed at us anyway. They're directed at the average normal person.

Perhaps I ought to utilise some objectivity here, but then, this is a fairly extensive resource for vampire information, so I can't see how that particular episode, could expand our understanding.

Besides, I really don't like the History Channel. ;)

hehe agreed...as vampire enthusiasts, I would doubt that I would find a great deal of new learning in an episode such as this...however, if given the choice between watching that and watching American Idol or America's Next Top Model...give me the History Channel and it's superficial vampire bios any day of the week.

It's one of the reasons why I disconnected cable altogether.

They are two of the funniest shows around. Simon Cowell has the kind of scathing criticism which only a Brit can come at someone with...and it works too, since when he says something nice, he damn well means it. lol

But on the documentaries front, there haven't really been that many on the idea of the societal imapct, so I suppose that this one leads the field.

I do enjoy the ones that deal with mythology more, since the fantasy is good fun to dream about. heh.

Hey, everyone has a vice...

Mine is reality TV, for which I can shout abuse at.

Others use drugs or live in a fantasy world of escapism (same thing).

But documentaries, in my opinion, should reflect accurate facts, not be *slightly* (hah!) twisted to make it more of an entertainment.

I'll agree with you on the need for strict facts though I think every documentary producer is working under a bias and working to forward a particular line of reasoning.

Whether that line is that Anna Anderson was Anastasia Romanov or whether your bias is to connect Christianity and vampirism...it's a bit of a mixed bag as to how far to push your bias and how boring you make your film.

I wish I coulda seen this,these days there is so few of anything that could even remotely come close to discussing truth about Vampyric exsistence.

Lets just say this, id rather not comment, thats something i dont say very often. I happened to watch it but id rather not comment.

I hardly watch tv that often, if at any time its usually during the weekends.

I havent seen this, and from what everyone is posting doesnt seem to be very interesting or worth watching. Yet know it has my attention adn would like to find out myself to draw a conclusion of my own..

i have seen that documetery it has aired several times over several months i watched it in december....... i do remember commenting on it once before in the forum and remember billythejust saying who would of thunk vampires at christmas...... lol..... although it was an interesting view they had on certon subjects for that documentery i dont feel all the facts were accurate......

and lol felix and stabb..... hubby and i tend to watch alot of stuff on the history channel and the national geographic channel........ sometime the shows or the documeterys arnt always bad......lol

The only thing I have seen lately that took any kind of intrest in Vampires outside of Hollywood was a case file show on court tv that showcased a guy and his friends who claimed to be vampires and killed another young ladies parents.

My Fave vampire documentaries come on @ Halloween and are normally showcasing on TLC and A&E

I have seen this and it was very informative. Learning about other stories of so call vampires.

I would like to see this show!! However I don't have the chance to watch much TV these days!! I guess it's time to put my Sky+ box into good use and Record it next time I hear about it being on!!

I'm not sure which show I watched, History Channel, Learning Channel, or what, but I saw one of them a while back and I liked it. It looked at vampires from an open perspective and did not portray them to be evil demons.
