For as long as I can remember people have shunned our kind and it forever haunts me with every feeding, could this be what fules me to live? But thats just an extra question, the real question is why must we be the targets for humor and riddicule?
That is perhaps answered in another question, what happens when humans don't understand something? what is their response to what they cannot comprehend?
They fear, they hate, they mock and make seem rediculous, because they will not take the time to understand. If People understood it, they wouldn't fear or hate it. If they weren't bigoted and shallow in their views on life then they would not care? Because what they don't experience can't be that way for someone else? It has to be their way, or no way........at least thats what it seems.
What hunts you ?
What are you?
Does eating KFC fuel you to live?
Not mocking just want some clarity so I can relate … vamp? Wolf? Dragon ?
The more you adopt the "It's US against THEM" attitude the worse any kind of discrimination is going to get.
It seems that most claims of prejudice when it comes to these matters is greatly dramatized.
I think it depends on what you mean by we. But I think most of the reason is because of the fact back in the day people who practiced the craft openly was thought as devil worshipers because people did things they wern't supposed to thus bringing upon the whole "evil" act.
It isn't just witches and other magical practionars, but also vampires and many species of other kin. In the past some did things to cause an alarming message to the public and some still do it today.
The human race has always been quick to judge on how one dresses or how one looks, or even because about how they feel towards a person like our selves. They portray us as evil when we are not based upon our pasts. Its just a lesson we have to learn to accepting what our ancesters did wrong and fixing it in the here and now. -nods-
Well maybe because were misunderstood for starters. The more you know about something the less ignorant you become. People don't want to take the time to understand us.
So they treat us differently but with a prejudice or they just like to judge us before they get to know us first.
People fear what they don't understant if were different they treat us different. There just blinded by misconseptions fueled by myth and controlled by hatred.
Mezkha,
Could you elaborate on who the "we" is in your question? I'm not too sure on how to respond to this thread.
ever noticed when you used to go to school and a bully picks on the smallest weakest kid as his target. The same principle apply's to this situation.
Just answer the question or close the thread …. This is part of the disintegration of good post on VR by avoidance of what your talking about …
Now give me your lunch money lol
There will always be a "us" "them". Who cares?? Be yourself.
I agree with Morrigon on this.
Also it's wise to remember we are actually all human....just different lifestyles is all.
simply put because we are different and not of a general more common group as other cultures would be considered.people fear the unknown and will eaither run in fear or will try to cause harm usually.
Sadly.. it seems to be Human Nature to mock/ Ridicule those that are way 'different' Even in School this is done.
As infants, we accept everything... we don't see anything different.
We learn to pre-judge, which I dislike.
It IS truly Bizarre... Because come to think of it.. We don't Preach yet, Christianity and other profound religions, ram their beliefs down our throats.. Hmmm... Yet, what I believe in..I do not preach, I personally, Enjoy and fulfill by it.
People Fear what they do not Understand, the narrow-minded, do not with to Understand, therfore, Pre-judge.
We are all capable of opening our Minds and our judgment... Alas.. we are taught not to
Oh, I don't know ... maybe using the phrase "our kind" in a sentence. Makes me laugh on the floor. Silly human. lol.
because we prey on them. simple and easy. we're just another one of their myths to keep kiddies under their covers at night
Well, the answer to that is simple, simple like water that is... *khm*.... You see, why ppl do not understand, is that, the usual thickness of their mental process, complicates the things, in understanding them, and with that, ppl think wrong things.
If vampires were worshipped and admired would this change your nature in any tangible way? No, it might make being you easier, perhaps... but you would stay the same would you not? The real question perhaps is why you feel the need to belong to a world that holds nothing for you... are you a half-breed that regrets the humanity you left behind? The Chinese have a saying: a smart horse does not go back to grass it has spat out in disgust!
Did you know that horses can't vomit?
Are we looking at this subject from a Role Playing point of view?
I will settle for calling this a Vampiric lifstyle. If you follow this belief, drink someone's blood (even though that alone will not keep you alive, you are human) dress in an fashion from an older century, how can you honestly expect people to accept you?
We are human, if you adopt the vampire lifestyle you are not behaving like a human, even though you still are one.
Can you blame anyone for getting annoyed? Or disgusted?
Many people would ask you "What's the point?"
I have to admit that I would do the same...
I wouldn't descriminate or shun someone for their different beliefs or lifestyles, I wouldn't join in with them, but as long as no one is harmed against their will...Why would I have a problem with it?
But keep in mind, you act like this even though you are still human, how could you expect people to just applaud you?
Meanwhile, people are getting murdered, blown up, raped, tortured...
Don't complain because people look at you funny when you walk into a Diner or someone didn't hire you for a job.
Learn to blend in or use the fact that you stand out to your advantage. Never flaunt what you are. Only tell those who you can trust and who are able minded enough to understand it. It can be lonely at times and sometimes you won't even believe yourself. Find others of your kind they will understand you best.
discrimunation of different people.. Happen throughout centuries...
thats how people are they make fun of us hurt us to make them seem better then us
Maybe I am a hermit, but where exactly do people make fun of vampires, werewolves, unicorns, pixies, aliens, and bigfoot? Somehow those topics never make it into my social conversations. Sure there are shows on msnbc about vampire killings, and the history channel keeps showing atlantis and alien drama "documentaries," not too mention all of the vampire movies and books... but doesn't that just indicate that people are interested in the alternative and paranormal just like we are?
well because ppl are afraid to believe anything other than what they are taught growing up so therefore they just have nothing better to do than to judge and ridicule ppl like u and me.they feel it gives them power and makes them think they are better than everyone else.
I do not understand what you mean by "our kind" because that statement can refer to multiple things and all of which are made fun of.
As to the notion that we don't preach... just look around VR. There are always people trying to discuss and persuade people about werevampwolves. Surely we discuss some of this stuff with our friends, maybe some that don't really believe in everything we do. We can choose not to go into a church, we can choose not to listen to christian bands, we can choose not to watch the 700 club.We don't have to socialize with people who might look down us. No one is stopping us from picking a town in the middle of nowhere and then all of us moving there so that we are community without nonbelievers. We can set up shops where we can wear trenchcoats and work only at night. No one is stopping us from doing that.
Are you talkin about goths?
If so its because of appearance and christianitys influence over whats evil and unacceptable or whats good and acceptable..if your talkin about vampires..its because your morons and they dont exist.
There will probably always be people that can't except people that are different from them. It doesn't matter what the difference is either race, creed religion, politics or lifestyle. Some people just put others down to make themselves feel better about themselves. Turning around and saying something like "norms" suck because they always put us down is just as bad as someone putting you down.
I think people who do not understand something will shun it or attempt to be bigoted against it. They should free their mind and the rest will follow to quote an old song.
Um...could we just close this topic...some people have no idea what some are talking about...and the people who understand the question are just saying the same thing over and over. I think everyone understands that humans fear what they dont understand. No matter how sophisticated you say it...or how simple you say it. It all means the same.
Humans tend to shun and fear the unknown. Yes, a few of our kind has killed some mortals... And some mortals have destoryed some of us... Oh well.. It's just a human reaction to kill the unknown and "dark." But some humans are quite understanding... I am lucky to know a few ^^
Ok I don't think this thread is going anywhere really. It looks like a lot of blanket judgements about a question that as lavisbre had pointed out isn't very clear. Who is 'us' and who is 'them' in this discussion?
Also Areyouafraidofthedark why are you even here?
I have learned that the differance in me and other things have created alot of prejudice, not really knowing what I am other than that I heal faster and don't age like some and hardly ever get sick. Yes I prefer the more odd of things and love the site of blood and guts .
This is why we are confined to darkness. And always will be.
Ignorance breeds fear. Fear breeds contempt. That is why people who choose to live in ignorance shun and ridicule us.
Personally, I haven't been shunned or ridiculed in quite some time.
Because we go out out ouf of way to wierd out the people around us? I mean, come on, if everyone accepted us for who were are....half the reason we are who we are would disappear. Nothing wrong with it, it's just one of those inescapable things.
Also, we're totally easy targets. I'd crack on myself if I were "them". Wait, I already do. Am I a "them"?
Why must there always be stereotypes? Bias beliefs, elitists, politics, bigotry...As the world is manipulated to hate and feel disgust, so the darkness within the lives of those whom live it shall feel it.
(Feels shy...) I made that up myself (Chuckles).
Everyone can entertain good social relationship with just 10 percent of the population around us(I mean "really" good). It`s the laws of the nature. Please read Vasile Conta`s books about fatalism.
The vampire loving ones and the metal listeners have a lower percentage.
But that`s not significant.
Everyone is alone.that`s why we all are somehow the same.I think we must turn the disadvantage in our advantage.Maybe that`s what we try to do on this site.
Everybody is alone...That`s the truth!
"can you give as much as you can take
can you love as much as you can hate
the flame we share is one as you're aware
the needs we burn is the child we never had
we split our lives to find our mind again
we do divorce so our first fight's regained
together will we remain to say
feelings we keep away from decay
feelings we send each other everyday
does your silence speak the world I hear
does your reserve mean what I fear
the forever we are is the forever we murdered"
(Together by SAMAEL from the"Eternal" album)
we all are alone
together
People do not always fear what they do not know about, the reason people act the way they do is because they are ignorant wastes of human life...
Once again Dragonrouge, you have outdone yourself...Props!!! Damned good old boy, damned good.
Life is unfair....Deal with it.....And please dont claim to be a real vampire.....A reel vampire maybe.....
it is call prejudice... The act of pre-judgment... "we" as in humanity, are raised to judge without knowledge anything and everything...Society is our teachers until we break away and learn to have minds of our own! Minds not tainted by popular principle or ideals...333
what the problem is that they are to scared to understand our nature because we feed on blood unlike them and it scares the shit out of them.
To be perfectly honest, in response to those who say they are mocked because people fear them, let me help you with that; no, they aren't afraid of you. I have friends on both sides of the tracks. They actually think that there is something wrong with you, and they do, in fact, look down on you. I can't say this is anything near like the experience of being a woman or being black and going through those histories of working to overcome being looked down on as lesser humans (and still do, today).
What? There's no "but". You drink blood, you damn well better expect people to look at you differently. To complain about it is ludicrous.
as a fellow blood drinker heres my thing on this subject: normal ppl thinks its weird. know why? cause its weird!!! if people cant handle it, im sorry for their loss.
I would say most people on this planet either don't know modern living vampires exist or don't care. I would also say that I hear more complaining from the living vampire set about not being accepted as 'normal' when they tell someone who they are. That is very different from actual prejudice or ridicule organized against a group.
Don't expect to suddenly have a positive documentary about you on Lifetime network but I think that generally, the live and let live attitude of most people is in your favor. As long as you're an adult and not pushing your views on others, most will let you be who you are without judging you. Now if your 14 and you've decided to tell everyone you know that you're a vampire, expect to receive some mockery. But let's be honest about why...if you're 14 you should expect to get some mockery for something...vampire is just an easy target for your peers. If you were a 14 year old rastafarian, or a 14 year old Republican, you'd likely get the same treatment.
US...? well every group has a minority within it....so its not a question of why..
its nature.
as far as i am consirned humans are good for 1 thing only FOOD!!! i am a vampire and they think i am "interesting" i find them mundane and tasty!
You must understand that vampires live in the shadow of all life. Wolves hunt in packs. and dragons are supreme...
Never break the rules....
i answered you earlier but i got to thinking when you say "we" who are you? and the rest of the we?...333
Firstly - Shunned sounds so overdramatic...like we're living in the middle ages and the Holy Roman Emperor has just given an edict against you...
Second - Are you really 'shunned' for being what you are or is it for discussing something that the average person finds uncomfortable. Blood drinking is creepy for some, sexual (and therefore personal) to others, and just plain nutty and pointless to others still. For a very few, blood drinking (or energy vampirism) is a metaphysical practice, belief or faith. No one is chasing you with torches and pitchforks based on you being what you are.
However, if you try to explain it to anyone and everyone that you feed off others, most will probably just think your crazy or lying or both and not give it a second thought. Even then, they're still going to let you sit at the same counter, get on the same bus, eat next to them in a restaurant, and use the same drinking fountain. Most people don't fear you (that's wishful thinking) and your not being shunned just ignored or made fun of. Let's try to be realistic about what is happening and why.

Thanks for that post, Felix. My sentiments exactly.
This underground world is under ground for a reason. If it wasn't... it would be the norm. It wouldn't be so appealing would it? It's always the oddities that are attractive. A dime a dozen is boring.
It's the price paid for the oddity. And so understandable.
when you say "us" do you mean vampires, witches, or emos?
KFC? That reminded me of a scene in the movie "Love at First Bite" with George Hamilton. I have no idea why. Can we kill this thread now? Ugh.
Don't feel bad, they also judge each other. I have yet to see very many Christians believe the exact same thing. All the different denomiations argue over who is the "real deal".
It's human nature to want to feel like they are right and you are wrong. It justifies their own beliefs I suppose?
And personally that is what I found interesting about this site, a place to be and share yourself, things that are weird to the everyday Joe.
As others have said, if you are running around professing to be a vampire, you are going to suffer if you so choose to. Just don't choose to, and socialize with those that can understand or don't criticize everything outside of the "norm".
Everyone judges. And there's nothing to whine about here. Think of the REAL issues out there in the world.
Lol
I just watched finding nemo with the girls and popped on to see how our community is.
This post reminds me of the shark part “ fish are our friends not food” lol
Now you wonder why people have an issues with something believed to feed on them
FelixSquared, that was awesome.
To add more to his point...we're 'shunned' because we want to be. Because most of us are so against fitting in, that we strive to stick out.
What you have to remember is that we also stick together, and a herd of black sheep is still a herd...made of sheep.
to be a lycan is no fun when you hear ppl talk and molck you in their way and they dnt know
I bet. I'd be talkin' smack about a werewolf too. Hairy night people give me the heebee jeebees.
I agree.. screw it.. if someone else can't accept what or who you are.. they are not worth it
its truly easy really, i m native, and celtic, there is a great deal of "mystery" that surrounds both sides of me as well as the fact i m lycan, its truly ez friend people and fear what they do not understand, and fear leads to conjecture as well as ridicule, b we
People fear that which they don't understand, what is superior, and what threatens. We are all 3. Their pityful defense is to ridicule, because they themselves feel inadequate.
Because they dismiss anything that they cannot relate to personally, it's sad and pathetic really.
Is it really so hard to imagine, though, that there are people who both understand it and can relate to it on some level, but still be disgusted or otherwise turned off by it? Saying "People fear what they don't understand" is a blanket statement, dismissive in nature.
I need a puppy.
i don't care what my food thinks ..
its silly to think about it
Because people fear those who are different. Thus they ridicule us.
My view is that it makes them feel less inconsequential to be focusing on other people rather than themselves.
people mok thing they dont unerstand to make themself feel better. it will alway be like that, it how you deal with it make you the better person
'people fear the unknown', so forum response cliche.
Why the Jews? Why Irish during the The Great Potato Famine? Why the Christians during the Roman Empire reign? Why me when I decide to dye my hair blue and paint Pokemon characters on my face?
Because shit happens and it's natural. If you choose to or just openly live a life unlike that of the 'conventional', you're in for this treat.
I think people being different , different from the crowd so too speak scares alot of people in the general sence of scoiety. people who are different who act as themselves are going to be picked on by others as the others who think they are normal popular partson of the crowd. To me it is either jealious people or they are trying to conval their beliefs and practices on the weaker crowd to change them into another verison of the popular crowd. I think that this is wrong and I really do wish this wouldnt be going everyday but it does and it is an excepted part of life.
Anything and anyone that is not considered the "norm" is shunned and ridiculed for being different by some people. It is because some people are just too close minded to think that certain things could actually be true.
The thirst for knowledge is inherant in every human, the problem becomes whether or not somethings should really be know to all, as much as I hate to admit it, ignorance can be bliss, how ever to address the ridicule and humor issue, you have to think about earlier issues with history, anyone who is caught trying to go out side of what some people think of as reality, is tracked, it isn't normal and they get curious but when the truth is revealed it may be too much so they twist it into a game, just something else to laugh at, its is called coping, when your mind sees or learns something it can't handle, it either shuts down or adapts, and adapting can take the form of blocking the memory, or just warping it, Hope this helps.
Easily answered people cant accept different and that's what it boils down to they dont like different
It is human nature to fear what they do not comprehend.
If only they would teach the value of our differences and learn to treasure them, we could have a better world starting now.
The way things are going, we'll not see that for a very long time.

This has been answered the very same way a gillion times. Rest In Peace.
