I was reading up on it and had problems finding a lot of information except for what had been seen in movies.
First off I need to ask, do you believe in werewolves/Therians and do you believe in Vampires?
Next I want to know what you think about co-existing or if one might have created the other.
The history of the vampire begins In ancient Persia, where a vase was discovered depicting a man struggling with a huge creature which is trying to suck his blood. Then, in Babylonian myth a deity known for drinking the blood of babies, Lilitu or "Lilith", was discovered. She was reputedly the first wife of Adam according to old Hebrew texts removed from the Old Testament, and left her husband due to his sexual ineptitude, becoming the Queen of Demons and Evil spirits. In China during the 6th century BC, traces of the "Living Dead", or revenants as they are known, were also found. More legends continued throughout all the world, including India, Malaysia, Polynesia and the lands of the Aztecs and Eskimos. According to the Aztecs, the offering of a young victims blood to the Gods ensured the fertilization of the earth. But truly, the vampire proper originates from European civillization...ancient Greece to begin with. There were numerous bloodthirsty Goddesses in both Roman ang Greek mythology, known as Lamiae, Empusae and Striges. These names eventually evolved into the general terms for Witches,Demons and Vampires. But these Vampires, though they do drink blood, were only Goddesses...not "living Dead", but disembodied divinities capable of taking on human appearances so that they might seduce their victims. As time passed on, and Christianity grew in popularity, the redemptive value of blood became apparant. Holy Communion, which includes drinking wine symbolizing Christ's blood and Bread symbolizing his flesh was at times taken quite literally. Some people, confusing pagan beliefs with transubstantiation (the actualy presence of Christ's flesh and blood during Communion) took part in feasting on human flesh and drinking human blood. During the 11th Century, witches and doctors alike prescribed virgin blood to cure all illnesses. Also during this time, some corpses found intact all over Europe began a huge vampire scare. The belief came about that people who died without a chance to receive last rites,or those who had commited suicide or had been excommunicated were destined to return to the earth as revenants. Various accounts of the discovery of Vampires can be read in books such as The Diabolical Dictionary (Dictionnaire Infernal) by the Bishop of Cahors; the Courtiers Triflings(De Nugis Curialium) by Walter Map, and the History of England(Historia Rerum Anglicarum) written by William of Newburgh. The phenomenon of Vampirism continued through the Renaissance era only sporadically, but again grew to epidemic proportions in the 14th Century, mainly in central European Regions of Prussia, Silesia and Bohemia. The bubonic plague was thought to be the work of Vampires and panic of infection led people to bury their dead without completely verifying that they were truly deceased. It was then no wonder that so many encounters of Vampires rising from their graves during this time were noted. A person, buried alive, would try to claw his way out of the grave and would be discovered covered in blood from the wounds he had inflicted upon himself by doing so. This, of course, would label him as a vampire.
A werewolf (also lycanthrope or wolfman), in folklore, is a person who shapeshifts into a wolf or wolf-like creature, either purposely, by using magic, or after being placed under a curse. The medieval chronicler Gervase of Tilbury associated the transformation with the appearance of the full moon; however, there is evidence that the association existed during among the Ancient Greeks, appearing in the writings of Petronius. This concept was rarely associated with the werewolf until the idea was picked up by fiction writers. In popular culture, a werewolf can be killed only if shot by a silver bullet, although this was not a feature of the folk legends.
* Both come out at night.
* Both need to be "cursed" in some way.
* Both hide away in the day.
* Both have humans as their prey.
* Both can be affected by holy signs.
* Both are weak against fire.
* Both are truly dead when cremated.
* Both have large, sharp fangs.
* Both have been seen with gypsies.
That is what I have found being similar.
well, i have found out that lycans were once slaves to the vampires. The vampires protecters in the day.
You need to stop watching Underworld and other movies where the "Werewolf" watches over vampires as they sleep...she is talking about actual real life situations.
haha
ok.
i'll take a vacation in Transylvania
lol
*giggles and smiles*
Movies try to turn stories of fiction into what people believe and that is all good and well, but what have you read that is not based off of something fictious?
personaly i find that the relationship between lycans and vampires is just a live and let live on a mass basis but i personaly have severl vampire friends and we get along just fine and then theres some vampires that i dont get along with and would really like to drop off the face of the early
I will claim to be neither to make this easier but I date a therian who hates almost all vampires because he claims they are stuck up.
I have talked to many vampires who say the same. One would think that creatures who have that sort of personailty were never slaves to anyone.
i don't know.
my friends dont have much of a problem with me, but i think there could be a partnership between vampires and lycans, depending on their personality towards others i guess.
i dont no if there is a relation, but i agree that some people watch way to much of under world, and since that movie came out do you realy hear the word lykin, it ust to be were wolf
I have to say, you have done your homework. That is the thing, most folklore mixes the ideas of vampires/shapeshifters/witches/ghosts as inter-changable.
It can be difficult to actually pin point when each "creature" really was the creature the society at the time was afraid of.
From my dealings with all different types of people, having met vampires, lycans, dragon-kin, and a demon walking around in flesh.
They are in the most part just trying to survive. One doesn't really care about the other, they each exist, but don't really do anything about it. Some can be friends, some just can't because they don't work to well.
Some of my good friends are were demon hybribs as well as some who are dragon-kin and vampires....Its just like the rest of people, they will get along or they wont.
Vampires and werewolves are one and the same... as per the original historical accounts of Eastern Europe. Among other creatures, including plants, vampires were believed to be able to shapeshift into wolves, hence one of the earlier names by which vampires were known: vudkolak (wolf's hair).
I myself, disagree with the whole topic. A werewolf takes their genes froim the wolf. The vampire takes theirs fromt he bat. There is no relation except for the fact they are both mammals...
I'm not looking just for how they are blood tide if they are in any way.
Just is there a reason why they are usually put together?
Why in almost every movie or book vampires and werewolves are together?
Why is the vampire more popular than the werewolf?
I would say that yes there is some similarities between the two..as they both started out as humans they both have genetic traits in common and therefore are not so different.
other than the similarities you pointed out I have not come across any relation between vampires and werewolves, excluding of course obvious works of fiction like underworld (good movie though). Oh wait there is one I believe you missed they are both considered evil in nature.
I see that some watch to many movies...... I loved and thank the one with the history of both. I have read many myths and legends on vampires and not one shown a interaction of the werewolf... Many myths will either state Vampires or werewolfs as the basis of their story but in the end most are to be simular in fact and will be more on the lines of the regions beliefs of the part of the world it originated at...
lycan . lupine. werewolf. diff words same meanings.
and who ever is just slpurting out these things that shouldnt be said.... needs to be careful.
This isnt just a game.
It's a life
and its not just a movie
Personally, my separation would be to have the Garou on a leash and at my side.
Being the dogs they are.
My two cents.
A relationship there is. But not really in origin. Myths and Folklore on both can be traced as far back as anyone can go. But that really doesn't answer your question. To think about it from a natural perspective all one really needs to realize is that both are predators. They share the same food. Witch in animal terms would make them rivals and competators. In modern times there is more than enough to go around. We can almost hunt at liesure. But in the past one had to be careful or the whole town would come running with pitchfork in hands. You will always be able to find a hint at common ancestry between the two from any culture, but the relationship between the two is more basic and alot simpler.
i personaly dont believe, but i dont count them out that they exsist. i find it hard to see how they relate to each other except in how the movies/books try to relate them and thats only to sell the movie or books.
I Would Say Yes That I Beleive In Both , But Them Being One In The Same I Really Dont Think So Like Someone Else Had Said Some Things The Same But 1 A Wolf And The Other A bat :) But EveryOne Has Their Own Opinions
ok simply put im sure there is a conection just like theres a connection between white ppl and black ppl the same yet different. what makles them different is genetics.
I think Vampires are different to werewolves, because a werewolf is a human in the day and transforms into a werewolf at night only on a fullmoon and feeds on humans, like hannibals for meat. Vampires are dead creatures of the night, that feed on blood to gain their energy, but sleep in a coffin in the day. All evil beasts can be nocturnal and all can be killed by silver steaks, bullets.etc, because silver is good for destroying evil.
echoing what others have already said is pointless, but my thoughts are they do not exist. Many times hunting my would wonder as I got into a tree stand or positioned my self in a blind. It is dark, things move and shift in the night just before dawn. Your imagination start to run wild. The more you feed it movies and books that deal with this material, the more likely you are to encounter those thoughts. Now think of distant peoples who did not have the benefit of satellite pics, low population density, less adventurous to seek these things out. They did not have the same resources to track down the truth (i.e. media) so they ran with ideas in folklore. Thus we have what we have today for movie fodder. Now I think there were some real crazy people then as now, so it is not inconceivable that there wer cannibals and mad leaders. This may have lead to the founding of the myths.
Vampires DO NOT get thier power or whatever from a bat...that is morinic to think that...thats going back to books and movies.
Vampire'vam-pi)-e)rn[F,fr G Vampir,f.Serbian Vampir](1732)

Source : Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.
great question, Could their be a relationship between the two, Is that putting it like hollywood. or like brothers or one being a mutation of the other strain.
I believ they have similiar traits yet a relationship like the movie state is non believable. i think that these two are just that different idenities
Found it on VR.
A vamp is a ghost of a dead person and a werewolf is not a ghost of a dead person, it is a beast.
According to myth Vampires are related to the bat and Werewolves are related to wolves. In reality, they are unrelation but it is possible that they came into being the same way.
It would explain why they always seem to be at war. In everything I've heard one hates the other. Maybie thats because they dont want to be related, but are.
let me say this and be done with it 1 there has been and always be a distrust between lycans and my kind however i am very blessed to have severl as friends this came through alot of hard work to earn there trust to thoes who clame darkblood use your choice of words wisley when it comes to lycans and other kin you might get somthing good out of befrinding them and they you may receve the same thing but know when to speak and when to listen it will serve you well
This isn't Underworld...there is NO war between Vampires and Werewolves. This is reality, real life...not a movie. There is a difference people.
I read somewhere that a dead vampire rises as a werewolf
ready ste action, once again the movies give a twist to a plot. relationship as i said before no, brothers no, but two different identies with their own form of myth. similarities, teeth, a bite transforms to another, night thats about it. no relationship
All I know is they are both creatures of the night, they are similiar enough to me.
well, I don't think there would be a problem with them co-existing, but I don't think that one created the other or if there is even a connection between them, but I will read more about this.
I personally would not believe that a vampire and a werewolf has anything to do with each other...
I think they are each seperate, and of their own kind...no relation...similar however...
okay, first of all time changes all. Vamps originally could go out during the day, they theoretically went out a noon. I'm not even going to get into the whole "hide away in the day thing"... ok, yes I am. When has a werewolf EVER hid during the day? Originally (theoretically) vamps didn't have fangs. There are so many holes in this I'm going to stop now.... lol
The relation of vampires and werewolfs is their both fake ass myths created by crazy ass bible beaters in england
Were wolves, according to the documentaries i have seen, are formed when a human changes or shifts into the form of a wolf by way of actually wearing a wolfskin, or by being bitten by such a creature.
Vampires, i think are formed by the person wanting to be one as well. I think you have to choose to become vampire or wolf.
i believ that my kind (vampires) would not b related to lycans tho we do hav a relationship or bond...
What is folklore but yesterdays fiction. who's to say that 100 years from now Underworld may become legend or folklore.
Ok for one- the orgins of the MYTHS can not really be heavily relied upon as most "historical" documentation on the supernatural were written by paranoid, supersitious people. not to say they weren't educated (if they could write then they recieved the best education for their time period). So not being able to rely upon that- finding a true relation between the two is goin to be damn near impossible.
The only modern relationship that I personally know of: I am a vampire. My husband is a werewolf. We have a child. There is at least enough in common that we have a solid bond and mated. Personally don't know if looking at the present might be an easier way to understand the past, but the current culture of vampires and werewolves might lead to better answers.
As far as i know we wolves were a solitary breed until our land was theartened and like any other species we felt the need to expand our lands. thats when our breed came to light to human eyes or other breeds, some might have been slaves but we are a warrior race, and some legends say that our time will come again
I think their coexistance is very hostile..they are enemies..we would have to get to the root as to why they are.
Sure, they are both good fiction :) If you are 'real', I'm not talking about you, am I?
haha..seriously they dont exist what the hell are you all talking about.
im going to agree with playerone's point (hybrid) very much so they may be related in a way but they r there own creature and reality theyhate each other in a way but in a way they could be very similare and that fact is vampires feast on human blood at night to keep there strength but werewolves actact humans for food not for blood great subject though
gah i hate to be a critic..but prove to me werewolfs OR vampires exist. the lot of you claim to be vampires...im sure you've eated italian food before..im sure youve been in the sun before..im sure youve slept at night too..none of you are vampires. or werewolfs.
The only thing people can do is 'maybe' convince you of the human parallels that make them claim the title :) But that does not make them a vampire or werewolf- just a person who calls themself that.
i agree with lost hope that it is mostly a live and let lie policy so to speak. but then you have a few that think that they rule all, from either side- vampire and lycan.
but to answer the first question i do believe in them both and understand then both. i also have friends in both, vamp and lycan.
AND LIKE YOU THERE ARE A FEW THAT I WANT TO JUST ROLL OVER AND FINALLY DIE. * BOWS AND SMILES *
Look at it like this.. most sensibly they are not there own species.. but a form for deseased humans..MY belief.. vampires are not truely dead..
But a related sort of disease that forces certain needs into the body, the need for blood for instance. my questio is how did the deseases come to be?
Lord Dacka
A disease. I never thought of myself as being diseased. *Feels forehead* I don't feel warm.
Why is it when ever something changes someone into something else they are diseased. Mentally, Physically. Really, Why? Just because I am different now doesn' make me diseased.
Why not think of it as an evolutionary step? The next rung up on the food chain.
Cows eat Grass. Humans eat Cows. We eat Humans. Everything remains balanced.
Your not a fuckin vampire or a werewolf.
Thats why you dont feel 'diseased' not that you would anyhow considering they dont exist.
I personally believe in both. As far as the relationship between the two, I think it's probably the same type of relationship that would exist between any other species. A good example would be (the closest I can think of) humans and dogs...for the most part they just exist together, however some get along and some don't.
I think all the fueding is something exaggerated (sp?) by hollywood.
*sings in my best kermit the frog voice*
...someday we'll find it....the creature connection...the vampiresss the werewolvessss and meeeee.....
*bows and exits stage left*
There are records I have seen in which groups of werewolves were the slaves of vampires. of course few people believe this due to the movie Underworld. Of course not all werewolves were like this. According to the records the vampire/werewolf relationship is similar to that of the Egyptian/Nubian relationship.
There is an article about some "real" werewolves I wrote somewhere on the Rave.... Dacians, before being conquered by the Romans wre known as lycans or wolf-men because they used to dress with the sking of dead wolves to absorb their strength... and also had a wolf's head as a flag...
Vampires... well, old dear Romania offers the source of the biggest fictional character (based on some real habbits though), Dracula... so if you ask if there is a connection between vampires and werewolves, I answer: Yes! Romania and its folklore...
In real life, has anyone found a tangible and scientifical proof of their existance? Legends and stories about men who lived with the wolves and become like them are many ( Romans... Romulus and Remus)... genetic anomalies which make their "victims" to develop excesive hair on all their bodies along with some teeth deffects... those exist too... but a race? A "common" missing link or a breed? Where is the proof of that?
Somewhere back along the lines of heredity, yes, vampires and werewolves are definitely related. Not directly, but nonetheless, they are. If you do deeper, extensive research, you will find names of where it all started, I'm sure. I haven't done this, so personally, I have no idea where it all started.
LOL I am sorry. I must apologize. Werewolves and Vampires are as related as there mythic animal counterparts. Wolves and Bats. Really. But the "Idea" is that two seperate genetic creatures might share a common ancestory. To look at it as far back as one can go the answer would always be yes. All Life started from a single source. So to shall it return. Whether You are a Creationist or Evolutionary, the idea is the same. One Begining. One End.
I think they are just two different species of being. No one tries to figure out the ties between a dog and a bat only for the sake that it is known they are two different animals just like werewolves and vampires are.
You really need to stop watching the film Underworld and other movies that hav the the "Werewolf",
i dont think there is any relation between them, "Werewolf" if had the chance would probebly rip our hearts out
Goddess you people don't seem to get it. Underworld may be a fictional movie but it is unintentionally based on fact. They were once werewolves that served us and werewolves that hunted killed us or just had nothing to do with us. We are related through our thirst and our need to survive. We are both predators so territory, food, and who is the king o the jungle have always been issues. Certain werewolves hate us some can tolerate us some can like us, some even still serve us as our relationship in the past was almost a win-win situation. I myself have dated a werewolf. We are evolution. Like I said as we are both predators war is and always have been inevitable but for the most part we have remained somewhat uneasy allies. It all matter on the individual of each race. Some like us some hate us.
in my opinion.... no relation
and i dont hear about or see no type of werewolfs wondering around anywhere.. i believe in vampires befor werewolfs
Lillith is the "maker of vampires/demons' according to many books i've read..never mentions werewolves, so I don't think that the two would be related through her.
"Is there a relation between Vampires and Werewolves?"
Both appear in the movie "Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein" but didn't get top billing.
LOL Felix. Don't forget my personal favorite. "Monster Squad"
here we go....it is always gping to be some one that needs proof always somebody that like to shot down antthing that someone says.ok about 3 years ago they found a fossil of a winged dinosaur wuth a long neck that they could not place in histroy some was thinking it was a dragon,,,if we copuld prove every thing what would life be.people need tobe open minded cause if they or not they life doesntmean shit.they should get a 9 to 5 go to churh have there little picketed fence yard kiss there wife and leave the realm of shadow and myth to people that have learn to have a open mind....remember they didnt think black people, elephants and anacondas didnt exist....
And you feel that there's some reason beyond the juxtoposition of these two myths in movies and stories that makes them related?
The only reason that this question ever comes up is movies...no one asks whether there's a relation between vampires and...fish. But you put out a couple movies on the secret war between vampires and werewolves and how they came from the same 'bloodline' and suddenly everyone thinks there's something to that.
both basically immortal creatures who have to share food. im sure they have some sort of relation between them.
there where fight between them but not a war. some fight were over land and food you like every other race
In masionic teachings, when reaching a high rank in Masonry, you have the choice to become werewolf/lycan or vampire...
as soon as I can I give more specific details on this subject, but so much the vampires, since the werewolves serve Satan and his purposes, and only after having been there "inside" much time and to know well everything, the fact is that it is possible to do such a pact and to become a both vampire or werewolf... they work for the same guy, but I think that they do not get on well one with other, vampires and werewolves, of course... :x
