I've been reading an article about flight 19, a squadron of 'Avenger' bombers that went missing on a training flight on December 5th 1945 over the 'Triangle' even though the crew were all exprienced pilots, they had more than enough fuel (enough for 1,000 miles when the flight was 300 miles) & it was a clear day. Their flight path was from from Fort Lauderdale towards the Bahamas, turning north to great Sale Cay then flying back to Fort Lauderdale. In effect flight 19 would be flying a trianglar course within the 'triangle' itself. What my question is, what is people's belief's behind this story, what do u think happened??

I think they disappeared their really to me is no other way of explaining it. What else could of happen I have heard many storied of the triangle taking people. I think they are true or have some truth to them

I do honestly feel they disappeared. I've heard this story before and nothing has ever been recovered from them along the islands or in the ocean. For me the question would be...how and where would they have disappeared too. That's the tough part as they are not the only ones that it has happened to but one of the more known ones because of it being a squadron and thus military based.

The area is notorious for that and there have been many theories as to why.
There is also one off the coast of Japan

that area is known for wierd things happening and theres a lot of different theories about it i have been through that area and ever had any bad experiences it might have been something to do with a atmospheric disturbance that causes all navugational equipment to go crazy and you lose sense of direction

You know guys,The North Atlantic Continental Shelf breaks off only miles away from shore, depths quickly reaching as low as 12,000 feet. You really think we are going to find lost planes or ships in those depths?

Oceanne, they found a ship at 4,818 meters, almost 16,000 feet, deep in the heart of the Bermuda triangle. So yeah....

I have seen alot of shows on this subject on the History Channel . And they have many theories on to what happened . they even think that they could have flown into the Everglades. I think that one is a little out of there cause they could not see land . From the coordinates the head pilot told the controller he was close to where the control center was . But from stories of the triangle it makes the instruments go crazy .. I think the planes are defiantly in the Triangle . I wish they would locate those plane so the mystery will be solved.

Isilmea,I understand that hun..But keywords here ..A ship. Trust me,it isnt the only one down there.
At 12,000 feet,we arent going to find a great deal..yes,we will get lucky finding a ship or two..but because of the topography of that area..which incidently drops down to 33,ooo feet,you honestly think we will find the rest of them anytime soon?And it costs a great deal of money to fund major expiditions like that.They havent even mapped the whole ocean floor,how are we going to pinpoint every tiny ship thousands of feet down
My point is,just because we dont find it,doesnt mean it isnt there.

Regardless,I do believe there is something to the triangle..whether it be Natural Phenom or whatever.It would be great to run an experiment out there..one that could be performed and get results before you ran out of money.

I believe something is defiantly going on out in the Triangle to many things go wrong out there and alot of disappearances. Its been told that there are like worm holes out there . One man was flying a plane from the Bahamas to Miami it was to be a 3 hr flight and he went in this vortex and when he came out he was looking at Miami and it only took 30 minutes

There have been documentaries on the missing flight as noted. I follow the theory that electromechanical interference caused the planes instruments to go FUBAR, the compass and altimeter. If the pilots did not have visual, from fog or mist, they could have crashed into the ocean.

I think that they got lost and flew out of fuel. They had made a promise to each other that if any of them had to ditch they all would. I think they ended up ditching because the were out of fuel. There are a lot of pilots that don't like to fly over water even with the relatively new GPS systems that they did not have back then. I have been in the air when your instincs are telling you the the compass is just wrong. It is so hard to trust the instruments sometimes even though that is exactly what countless hours of training tells us that is what we are supposed to do. It is much easier to fly over land because you can almost always orient yourself with landmarks. I think they just got lost. A lot of people find that hard to believe but it really is hard to fly over water.

there is also a triangel in the lake ontario and the great lakes are said kill more ships than anywhere else.they have a strange magnetic activity and once a ship was seen to just get sucked to the bottom and was seen from the shore.the lake had a natural tractor beam.

i believe there is some kind of magnetic field in the triangle and they became victims of it like alot of our planes and ships

I watched something on discovery about that, how they recreated the event of that flight it was filmed and nothing really happened when they re-created the flight. The theroy is that that is an area of a magnetic pull and it makes the instuments go buggy, it is an area that is also noterious for it's storms for if you look, it is possible that they may have encontered a trop storm or hurricane or other storms...this area is very known for storms.

The Bermuda Triangle has always been of interest to me. The USS Cyclops and the USS Nina also were lost in the triangle. I have watched documentaries pertaining to these and also Flight 19. There are no answers. I have also sailed through the area. We have done many trips through there with no problem. But a couple of times, we ended up way off course. Everything seemed to be functioning properly, but we were still way off course. When I lived in Florida I met a lot of people that had encountered many different things when traveling through the Triangle. After years of reading and speaking to so many about their experiences, I still have no idea what causes the things that happen there.

The triangle is definitely a mystery that has alot of stories I even heard about people seeing the ship called the Flying Dutchman .

alot of things are not known about the triangle. I have been to bermuda alot on business, i also have made some friends on the island. The natives dont talk about the triangle.

As far as the triangle making instruments react funny that is one theory. problem with that is if that theory was right they would find wreckage of the planes and ships but they dont they just vanish.

There have been reports of ships and plans from the 30's and 40's appearing in mint condition and then they just disappear again

there are many myths to the bermuda triangle that

its a crystal from atlantis that during the right time causes the magnetic pull to sink ships or to simply evaporate them from existance which would explain why there has never been any wreckage

the last new evidence that i heard was that they might have crashed in Florida swamps somewhere.....maybe.

sometimes in the triangle magnetic interference occurs, they could have been turned around and flew north or south and crashed into the ocean.

who has actually been captured by the phenomena that is the bermuda triangle know's its true horror, fantasy, romance.

A lot of people believe that their is a magnetic field that messes with the pilots instrements and if it is a clear blue sky out the pilots can not define the blue water and blue sky, then if they get mixed up by doing a turn or something like that, that they can crash into the water and drown because they do not know what is water and what is sky...

Ok I am going to go out on a limb here (and probably fall out of my tree), this is one of my favourite Bermuda triangle stories. I believe they got caught in a time rip. I believe that's what the triangle is, and when the conditions are right... things disappear!

The time thing is another theory. I posted this earlier of people passing through the triangle and talk about seeing planes and ships from the 30's and 40's. This planes and ships will then disappear as quick as they appeared

one last theory is this is a hot spot for alein obductions. if planes and ships disappear without a trace this also can be very possible.

mostly it said soemthing that the latitude and longatued ran a certian way and some how in that area it caused the that n, s ,e w, thing to go hay wire and people got lost

I have read and watched nearly everything I can about Flight 19. I have always been interested in this story. However it is a story that cannot be solved.

It was put down as polit error, which in fact it could be true to a degree. It was heard that the compass on all the aircraft were malfunctioning (1 or 2 possible but all 5 at once????strange) It was also heard over the radio that they didnt know if they were upside down or what...it was known that flying at heights made polits confused with the lack of oxygen but again how could this happen to 5 polits and crew???

it was stated that a wireless operator figured that they were actually heading away from the direction they stated they were going....why didnt anyone listern to him?

What about the flying boat that dissapeared during the search over the same area another strange occurance...I believe this plane has never been found also.

Until someone discovers the missing planes then no one will ever know the truth. I have also heard that radio contact from the planes stated they were being buzzed from an aircraft that could turn at 90 degrees, stop on a dim and do manuvrers unknown for aircraft at that time.

I believe that were disorigntaed because of the compasses failing. I believe that they had to ditch the aircraft for running out of fuel and as the planes sank quickly they all ditched closed by to try and stay together. I cannot explain however why not one member was found, why didnt the crews just bail out, surely someone musta been able to survive this.

To be truthful I dont think the story of flight 19 will ever be solved the whole thing was a big stuff up from the time they took off. Anyway let it go unsolved it is the greatest mystery of mankind.

I`ve seen a theory on tv about this which sound pretty rational to me, that the crew leader (and of course everyone of the other planes followed him) got lost and desoriented because of the weather conditions. most of the time they kept radio contact with the base and after the experts listened to those recordings they figured out what could`ve happen - the crew thought they were heading on the good direction but they were going the opposite way, for the ocean not for the land. so eventually they ran out of fuel and sinked. as i remember, they were found (?!) few yrs ago? (i can be wrong with this). Anywayz, i fiund bermuda triangle a very spooky place...

Those planes your thinking of were not the avengers that were lost, but were avengers that were tossed overboard from an aircraft carrier not long after WW2 which was the custom at the time. The serial numbers were collected from the planes and compared to the records. But it did cause some excitement at the time with the hope that the mystery was solved unfortunately it wasn't.

Well, there is a pretty good chance those lost ships and planes are on the bottom of the ocean. Seems logical there was an equiptment malfunction , prehaps due to magnetic variations or wind sheers , weather? Technology and navagational equpitment also have changed over the years.

i say they dissapeared,it seems to me the triangle is like a gateway into an alter dimension.when i was young i read this book(wish i could remember the name)and i guess there are thousands of small gates like these around the world,sometime people will wander into one and end up on the other side of the continent.

Where ever is a strong energy exibited(or anything "strange"), naturaly, or by human hands, it NEEEEDS! to be coverd up, needs to be hidden, confused, and twisted, how else would you control the ppl? How else would you shape their realities, so they can serve only you?

Why not thing this could just be a 'wrong person in the wrong place' type of situation? they (the scientists or whatever) got explained most of the causes for the strange phenomena happening in the triangle... if someone spins you around you might lose the sense of orientation easy, this could very well happen in a storm (especially in the air i think)... it could be a conspiracy, as alixaryon said, or a huge sea-green monsterious being :) we`ll never know what really happen...

I truly feel that they are gone in the traingle, for if the flight squadron had crashed there would be proof of it somewhere and yet to my knowledge nothing has appeared. Many say that when planes go down they are witthin each other for survival purposes. yet all the steel should be picked up on some radar.

If you were pulled down by a water sprout, there would be nothing left to you to find either. Add a storm and some pilot error by not trusting in the instruments and - poof. You're gone! There is no mystery to this. Some people shouldn't be out when its dark. It's not safe. - Boo!

While I love this mystery,I do feel I need to say that,again,despite the technology we have today,if they indeed went down in the triangle,it doesnt mean we are going to find them anytime soon,if ever.The water is too deep and there are caves and trenches that could easily mess with signals cast by sonar or radar.

Again,I point out the sargasso sea phenomenon..anyone bothered to look at that yet?

Also,there is alot of talk about uwos out there..and it all could be true..but I also think that many of these sightings are attributed to phospherous..if you have ever seen a school of fish swimming through it at night,you would know what Im talking about...it looks just like a giant spaceship..all lit up and everything.And fast too if something happens to be chasing it.And it will simply dissapear..explaination? The school swimming out of the phosherous.

they think they have found parts of the plane washed up in NC...they are still doing reasearch.

I think there was an energy that confused them and they crashed into the ocean.

personally i have done alot of studies on this subject and it still baffles me I watch

magnetic pulls, the lost city of atlantis theory, a whirl pool that randomly shows up or some giant crystal that evaporates the ship. Time rifts are my favorite thought on some of these theories

They've done legitmate studies on it and have found it to be a result of large methane build ups from under the ocean floor in that area releasing and the massive bubbles that come up from it being what the ships feell in to. the water goes right over the ship crushing it and the eruptes sand settling over the wreckage. As for airplanes, they cant fly in complete methane, do to the simple laws of physics behind how airplanes fly, combined with the fact that it causes the engines to stall, and all of their devices failing do to the fact that they determine their settings based on the atmospheric pressure differences at different altitudes.

The methane envelope is prolly the most comprehensive theory going to date to be sure,but it really would be kool if it did turn out to be one of the more unusual causes

I have been on a cruise ship through the Triangle and we got to hear many stories while passing through it. I have no real theory but I believe that there are still places on earth that just have some kind of very powerful supernatural energies within them. Or maybe Aliens lol

True it would be fun to think that its was some powerfull supernaturual thing that warps things and people to some other dimension, however multiple science investigations have lead to one thing theres nothing supernaturual about it its justmassive amounts of methane. It happens on a much smaller scale in and pond or lake.

It could be methane pockets sinking the ships or possibly a large iron deposit under the ocean messing up compasses etc...possibly a combo of both???

There are many theories of what happened, one being that the instrument panels malfunctioned sending the planes in the wrong direction, another is pilot error.. what actually happened we may never know, too bad flight recorders were not used in those planes, now that would be interesting information.

I watched something about the area being honeycombed with underwater caves or caverns of gas that erode and roof breaks, when they do the water acts like boiling water as in lots of bubbles this means nothing floats and drops to the depths in the new open cavern, they are large enough to take a battle ship down.
The gas released goes up and is ionized from the water and knocks you out for lack of oxygen and you dials go crazy from the magnetized iron, and also crash and sink to the very deep pit that form
I also know my dad and his ship has sailed through and seen strange craft. One even stopped the helicopters from lifting off to investigate … all covered up but quite the story down the pub with my dad.
Im stuck in both worlds as my dad is an atheist and doesn’t believe in such crap, just has no answer to what he seen.

I think it may have been an actual rift in the the time space continuum itself. Perhaps they were transported to another dimension and served as an horderve to alien life forms.

I think that they eventually ran out of gas and tried to crash-land as best they could. It's quite possible that the others would have gone in at the same place where the first one did so that they would all be together. Those 5 torpedo bombers are probably somewhere at the bottom of the ocean, the question is where...?

now they have discovered another triangle in the pacific ocean called the japanese triangle that have had ships and planes disapear also some kind of
freak of nature that knocks out all navigational equiptment

I think it is ver interesting that there have been so many vanishes. I wonder if there is some kind of portal or something there. I also wonder if they share same times or dates.

Whatever goes on in the Triangle is beyond me. There are so many disappearences that take place and no one can figure it out. I think that there is a story behind the 1945 disapperance and certain people are hiding things. But hey that's just me.
There are many stories of what the Triangle is or where it came from, but who knows what to believe. Anything is possible but I doubt we will ever find out the truth behind the Bermuda Triangle.

Here's an interesting one: How is it that a U.S. Navy ship called the Cyclops could disappear without a trace in the triangle? it was a big ship mind you, at least 500 feet long if memory serves.

As a few others have said the History Channel has done a few documentaries on Flight 19 and the Bermuda Triangle. Flight 19 was a training flight and even though all of the pilots where skilled and accomplished military pilots they where in training and the Flight Lead was an inexperienced Lead Pilot, hence the training.

Also during this area of flight aircraft had known problems with their radar causing conflicts with their flight instruments as these systems where not as advanced as they are today. Radar was crap back then. They also had known aircraft mechanical problems but the aircraft where still flight capable but these could have later caused problems.

Also, behaviorally military flight groups are trained to follow their leads and in a case of an inexperienced one leading a group of in experienced pilots they very well could have made a serious misjudgment in where to fly and what to do about being lost if they realized they where off course. Also if the flight lead had any problems with his instruments or failed to read them correctly which many trainees do, than it could have resulted in them getting lost, misreading the horizon and landscape and lights coming off the FL coast thus them all crashing or ditching their aircraft and dieing at sea.

The History Channel has done more modern studies/documentaries on the Triangle and have shown that even with current technology many pilots misjudge their instruments, panic when in a cloud bank at night and lose site of the lights on the shore lines and crash their aircraft. In the last show I watched (year or 2 ago) they showed many survivors of the Triangle both men, women, civilian and military trained pilots that all almost crashed within the triangle. All of them reported that it was their own pilot error that caused them to almost crash and with a bit of luck, their skills and them keeping control of themselves as any serious pilot should, they survived and recovered their aircraft and landed safely.

I believe it was pilot error and know many young military pilots that have crashed and or almost crashed while flying in many parts of the world including the Triangle and it’s has always been 99.9% pilot error that caused the incident and not an unexplained anomaly.

It’s not very popular in the circles that enjoy talking about Triangles and other such areas/anomalies/unexplained effects and events but a study was done a long time ago 10 to 15 years and released in a documentary format and I believe it was published also. But logs from the worlds leading shipping industry insurance companies which log every ship and ship disappearance world wide, was discussed. Also the FAA and other global aviation authorities published their crash and disappearance records. On the documentary they showed how any given place on the globe that has mass transit through it has the same or in most cases more crashes and disappearance than in the Triangle.

So if anyone cares to look at real facts and not hypothetical pop culture talk, than any given 3 points on the globe where heavy transit occurs as in the B. Triangle would result in the same number of mishaps or even more, making the B. Triangle insignificant and nothing to worry about or ponder over.

Personally I wish people would focus on discovering why anomalies occur as they do and the world over not just in the B. Triangle. But it’s the popular thing to talk about so it gets all the attention and devalues any real scientific funding for research because it’s to much a pop culture topic.

I think the Bermuda Triangle is real there's so much that's unknown to us humans, and really think something happen that day when those people when missing...

Something happened alright but who knows what, guess we'll never know until the planes are finally found, if they are found.

I believe they truly disappeared, other than that I have no idea...It's truly a mystery that I would love to be solved...I've heard many theories though, some that make sense others way out there.

Honestly I think they disappeared. And the triangle is like a phenomenon, kind of like the spontaneous human combustion in the other forum. I don’t think there is any real explanation for it until it is proven so.

It is many teoryes over the bermuda triangle. I readed an article that it could be somekind of a magnetic field in that area that somehow manage to strike out the airplanes controls.

Well, if there is an explanation then it will have a reason O-o I think all things have reasons and can be proven someway and somehow scientifically.

something that big does not just disapear without a trace, their must be something weird going on with the burmuda triangle...

The bemuda triangle is just another phenomenon we will never understand. What happend to that squadron we will never know and I feel for their loved ones in this case.

There is a pilot that I have flown with who lives near me. He is a very good experianced pilot. A little over a week ago he got disoriented while flying over eastern Nevada. He flew 75 nautical miles in the wrong direction.
I stand by my theory of "Pilot Error".

There are many points of heightened energy all over the world and I think the Bermuda Triangle is one of them. I think that the instruments malfunctioned and this caused the planes to go down. I also believe they will find these planes in our lifetime.

if the squardron crashed there would have been proof and a lot of new crew working on it so yes i think they disappeared

Through the course of time a great many ships, subs, planes as well as squadron 19 have disappeared in it, but some have been found with no signs of life...

i think it was a freak storm that area is know for strange storms happening

I think that it is possable that a storm or hurricane could have come along and distory them to the point that everything fell apart and there was no remians of anykind left for any one to discover them.

As a skeptic, I question everything, and I question these fervent believers in the Bermuda Triangle. I think they somehow crshed into the ocean and they just didn't find anything went they searched for them.

I read somewhere that insurance companies are claiming that there are less mysterious events happening in this part of the oceans than anywhere else at sea. ill try find the site where i found it

im believing it may be a magnetic dead spot due to sunspots on the sun that causes all these strange dissapearences due tot he fact that it takes some magnetic force to keep guages and the other stuff to that nature running on eitehr a plane or a boat. that is just what i think.
