We've all heard the story, but to refresh your memory, here's the shortened verion from the official website amityvillemurders.com:
I believe!
And plus.. There is the house =) and it's really haunted
I beleive parts of it are true, Though some of it just seem ex-sage-ur-rated...(Excuse the poor spelling)
I believe that in most cases of hauntings such as the case of the amity house, rituals either done before or after the manifestations occur, it would more than likely be of obsure fashion that few would conjure such tales without first doing studies crossreferencing fact from fiction.
Old cultures such as the native americans persisted time and time again, if the ancient spirits were disturbed, hauntings would occur, either this, or summing up of what I stated above, old rituals of dark hearted individuals left energies and open vortex's.
All in all, my point is...I would not deny such manifestations from occuring. Look at most of the haunted sites nowadays.
I believe it.
Nothing so far has been able to come close to it, therefore in my mind, it is the real thing.
I believe this story to be true, however, through the years, I think the media and hollywood have twisted some of the story to make it more entertaining.
holliwood enjoys enhancing th efacts to show fixction....I mean lies sells, truth dont
I think that it could be true. The details may have been embellished or exaggerated a bit to sell the story though.
I believe the story to be true, but like all hollywood stories they go to far with them. I have been by the house and as far as I know it still stands to this day.
It may or may not interest you all to know that much of the Amityville story is based on the same local legend that inspired the (supposedly true) Poltergeist movie. Both took place on Long Island, at opposite ends.
It's one of those that I believe to be true to a certain extent
personally i think that the story is true but because of hollywood and the media some aspects have been exaggerated
I think it's true. I have been in houses that would effect your mood. And some times make you sick. It's about the energy of the house.
I think it's exaggerated by the media, they exaggerate everything. However, I think parts of it might be true. Though the pig thing is a little strange and didn't fit. lol
Jodie - the pig - was supposed to be the demon. It chose an appearance that wouldn't be scary to the little girl that it was trying to get in through.
(But if a giant boar with red eyes had started talking to me when I was 7, i'd have been a little freaked out!)
The disguise would also have worked because lots of little kids have imaginary friends, so Jodie was dismissed as such.
I enjoyed the film but doubt if there was any truth in it.
It could be real. Has anyone tried interviewing the Lutz family recently? Someone has to still be alive to set the truth straight...
I am a total believer and always have been. I am unable to explain why however. It is just a feeling I have.
I believe it, I have been to the house when I was about 16
It could be real, because there is a house, it is haunted, and there were murders that occoured there in 1974 or there abouts. Im sure Hollywood made the story worse, in only the special way Hollywood could lol.
I believe its true . some of the parts sound a little to fr fetched . But I do believe that that house is haunted .
I believe most of it happened , that is a house that had 7 people murdered , and that energy and essence is still there . Plus to top it off it was built on an Indian burial ground . The land is what is bad not the house it just that all that energy manifested in it . Yes I believe its haunted and things happened to an extent , but hollywood added more to it then what really went on . I have been in haunted places before so I am a believer cause I myself have seen things that is hard to explain. I have also heard that things still go on in that house , that is one house I would love to go into . Some one should contact Ghost Hunters ( TAPS ) to go there and get the truth .
I personally believe its a true story, and a bone chilling one at that!
I think there was some thing to it. Were the house not inhabited now, I would love to get my team in there and do some investigating
The son came out and said it was all made up by his stepfather..
i do beleive that this could happen. eventhe publics perception of what happened is supernatural without people telling them otherwise.
I want to go sit in the house myself but i do believe it
Wow I didn't expect such a unanimous positive response! Most people i've spoken to about this outside VR are so closed-minded, they just call the whole thing a hoax and refuse to consider any other possibility. Well done you guys!
I believe that some of it is possible. I've seen and heard things. Had odd things happen. Its not like this could NEVER happen. Though some of it may be a little (or a lot) twisted. The only part of the book I couldn't believe, where it was starting to get a little hollywood corny was when they found the door leading to hell. The source of the horrid smells, walls covered in read, flies. That just seems a little outrageous to me. How do you NOT know about a hole to hell in your home?
It wasn't actually a hole into hell. It was an uncovered well, which can actually be a source of paranormal activity. I think the red room was supposed to show that satanic activity had gone on sometime in the past, thus bringing the evilness into the house.
I remember reading the book when it came out; which was nearly thirty years ago, so my memories of the book are not vivid.
I am sure at some point I have actually seen a television interview with the real George Lutz -- it was along the lines of that old ABC show "20/20", although I cannot remember exactly. (If you tell me I am nuts and this interview never happened, I really cannot quibble without any hard evidence).
I can recall Lutz saying, during the interview, that stuff did go on -- oozes, noises, smells, poltergeist activity -- but that Anson did exaggerate. For instance, in the book, Lutz grows a beard and grows his hair long. At some point, he goes to the local library and gets news clippings about the murders. He is shocked to realize that the news photo of the murderer looks just like him. In the interview, George Lutz said that did not happen. But he did corroborate the house was haunted and the family got out of there
in a hurry.
I do believe that something is in the house. spirit or poltrigest. many stories seem to flow from this house from different sources.
well anything is possible and many have believed it tobe true over the years, so sure why not?....
I used to live in that neighbor hood! lol!!! it was interesting indeed!!! I believe the old stories.
lol! oops forgot to add the man hunt story I should probably share!!!lol!!!
a couple of friends and I played a while ago on the property at around the time that the incident had happened after Halloween, a lot of things freaked us out that night anyone, who would like any details on what happened that night message me!!!! I always love telling the story ^_~
I believe it to be real. Too much about the story just cannot be left to simple rationalization.
I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it being real, but personally I don't think it is.
I believe it to be true also. But (as always) I think Hollywood over did it just a bit in the movies. But, yes, I do believe it is true.
I think it's a huge hoax. No one who's lived in that house since has reported anything supernatural or bad happening to them. In fact, they just want to be left alone.
True, the gruesome murders of an entire family happened there. Everything else is just bollocks.
I believe that the story of the house is true and some what accurate. I however do not believe everything the media has to say about the house. Over the years I am sure that some of the stories have been grossly exaggerated.
I have always enjoyed this story and believe that it is true..at least for the most part.
I live right by this town... my step sisters family went to school with butch DeFeo
the house is not haunted butch went on a killing spree on his family do to drugs

I believe that a lot of it is fabricated or "fluffed" to create a story. I use to live not too far from there and the people that live there know more on the subject than I do ,but the story has grown in bs over the years.
This topic shows up once in awhile - once in awaile is too much. Its occult status is all Hollywood. You may "believe" what you wish. But there is no discussion.
So, I believe, I'll have another drink.
