Basic laws of physics say that energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be changed from one form to another.
Many good folk on here use the manipulation of energy for their magic.
It must mean that the energy that ws used for magic was drawn from somewhere else and changed.
Where is this magic drawn from, do you all draw it from different places and does this mean that the source of your magical energy is somehow worse off once you've drawn its energy out?
there are several ways and from objects.
one example would be to draw from the earth, the other from the moon.....
i would say inform of candles the scent and the burning can cleans the air and some harmful things in the air..
or perhaps heating stones work magic in form of relief of sore muscles or if u add water to them in a closed off place steam to cleans the pores..
Energy sources should be consumed in order to manipulate them within and then project them in some form. I know that people say they "draw" their energy from the moon, a crystal, or etc., but if you think about it like food you can see how a properly balanced diet helps maintain proper chemistry within your body so that you may perform certain tasks. The energy source wouldn't be better off, it would be a part of you.
I agree with Wolfsbohne.
I believe most of the world's energy is from the sun and the moon. Possibly black magic may be drawn from the moon..and white from the sun.
Your right Wolfsbohne, it's with you. And you can conduct and store energy better if your body is health. Good nutrition, plenty of water, no wt. flour and sugar.....

The sun's energy is what first breathed life into our planet... energy cannot be created or destroyed, therefore almost all energy sources we have can be traced back to the sun.
From a scientific standpoint....
From a magical standpoint, I don't know where most get their energy from.. fossil-fuels maybe? Pretty much the most common energy sources we still have...
...maybe we should be looking at more nuclear magic....
Universal energy, earth energy, element energy, personal energy, all energy sources...:) I think when magic is used..all these sources of energy are potentially used and refocused through a focal point for the energy to do its magical work.
Energy is all around us, we are energy , earth, sun, moon, air as a constantly moving form of energy. It is used in everything you see.
The power is within you. You must focus or meditate on the matter.
Ritual items and magick users are storage and focusing devices for energy. They are not the source but possibly a conduit. There is much energy available in the form of kinetic energy in every bit of matter in the universe. In our magickal works if we tap a tiny fraction of what is available we have touched a huge amount of energy to use.
platinumwitch --- I agree that focusing devices or conduits are used. This is how I understand it, and have seen it accomplished. The energy was within the individual, and whatever she (usually a she in my life) believed worked was all it took.
Do you all draw it from different places?
Of course! ppl draw energy from the moon! from other ppl! and also from
the elements of the earth!
Does this mean that the source of your
magical energy is somehow worse off once you've drawn its energy out?
What? that took a minute for me to understand what u were talking about I don't think so, not at all! do u mean once energy is drawn form a source that it becaomes weaker once you use it?
But I forgot to mention that drawing energy from other places Isn't limited to just the places/vessels I have mentioned. those are just a few energy sources! Just in case lol!
Everything contains energy, so we're really taking energy from everything when we do magick, though you can have a certain source in mind (the moon, crystals, etc). And energy is in constant production, so I don't think anything would really be harmed once some is taken from it.
Amaltheia- i assume you probably draw energy from yourself to soothe other people even if you don't realize it.
As for whether the source people draw energy from weakens...of course not. Energy is in constant cycle throughout the universe it is impossible to create or destroy energy, so it's always somewhere.
Actually birra - the source of energy and life on this Earth could be traced back to before the Earth was created - to before the Sun was created - and is the same energy which comprises both.
Energy is the source of matter. The sun is not THE source of energy, but the energy which constructed the sun remains within it, slowly radiating outward to the Earth.
Metaphysically speaking, energy is not really something like solar or fossil fuel power. Many cultures have said that everything, including the rocks and dirt are imbued with a certain amount of energy. Living things are said to have more of it but even the air is alive with energy. It's this belief, that allows practitioners like the Rosicrucians to say that thoughts can travel or hitch along the energy in the air and be received by minds at a distance. Electrically, there's very little energy happening in a thought, not enough to actually travel beyond the head that thought it. However, a different more subtle energy that permeates everything, allows for thoughts and manipulations to use that energy on a grander scale.
thanks to everyone who has posted so far
exerpiate, you've said that you 'agree' but there are three different opinions on this at the moment - which one do you agree with ?
XSilverxMoonxNightX "do u mean once energy is drawn form a source that it becaomes weaker once you use it?"
yup that's what I mean - if energy can't be created or destroyed, I assume that when you draw energy from an object or person that thing has to be left with less power and so worse off.
I have to say, Felix, that the two (metaphysical and physical) versions of energy can agree.
There is a state of existence known as absolute zero. This is the point at which a system neither absorbs nor releases energy. It would be a state of absolute void, as far as I'm concerned, and from what I've learned was the state of the Universe before the Big Bang. Though outer space is close to this state, it has yet to reach that condition, which means that things are constantly moving - not just planets, stars and random gasses. It includes free floating particles, quarks, elements, etc. On Earth, the transferrence of thought is done so through speech, or rather sound waves which are only detectable through their effects on surrounding matter (i.e. particles, quarks, elements, etc.).
If you know how to use a form of catalyst to push that thought through matter (elemental particles at least) like a frog jumping from a lilly pad to a lilly pad, then you have the same concept in both physics and metaphysics.
depends on the magic and the person.. stars, moon, sun, earth [power is drawn from a lot of things]
Wolfsbohne- I do agree that any metaphysical science is likely to find answers sooner or later in accepted science either through a greater understanding of particle physics or related work in quantum physics. However, since I don't have those answers as of yet (and neither does the scientific community at large so far as I can figure), I still tend to separate the metaphysical as what we don't know (in terms of exact properties and predictable results) and the scientific (proven, repeatable results in a lab).
Artemka - I'd like to point out: most would agree that using energy in the form of 'magic' or energy manipulation like Reiki, doesn't consume energy (it merely changes it's use). So I don't think we're stepping outside the constant of energy principle (ie. it's still not being created or destroyed).
Felix - What I'm saying is that many metaphysical studies or concepts may already follow laws of physics and quantum mechanics - such as Reiki or energy healing.
Quite so but since they're not scientifically proven in a lab as a repeatable experiment (either because we don't have the right means of measurement or because we don't have a way of guaranteeing the outcome) I still consider these things 'metaphysics'.
If you talk to a quantum mechanics professor, you're still not going to get an answer like "yes certainly Reiki is using quantum physics and here's the mathmatical formula for that." In fact, you may very well get, "I don't believe in Reiki." That absence of scientific community agreement and formulaic explanation is why for me, esoteric studies and energy manipulation is still in the 'metaphysical' realm.
Point taken. To be honest, there was another thread regarding Reiki in which I confessed the same thing - essentially I don't believe in it. See what happens when you try to stir the pot? You're discovered to be a flip-flopper.
Well I think the issue is less what you personally believe and more about what the scientific community has accepted and proven. That's also not to suggest that the scientific community is the end all final answer of questions regarding faith but more to say that, barring personal experience (which is hardly of use to everyone else online without that same experience), it's necessary to have some principles about how to prove what is vs. what we believe.
Felix, yup I was wondering if the laws of physics would apply to magic or if someone would bring it up :D
Some folk would argue that magic is un-natural, super-natural and so on - so it follows that laws of nature might not apply.
I always thought it odd that scientists who have to be able to prove things before they can accept them, end up with something like potential energy that can only be calculated [but not observed or measured] to fill in the gap where energy is 'missing'.
I am sure a few scientists will be along in a moment to point out where I've gone wrong LOL
No, artemka, I don't think scientists could argue with you on that point. That's why we have dark matter and dark energy. Rather than saying this type of matter is supernatural because they don't know what it is but can measure it to an extent, they refer to it as "dark" (aka unknown).
i take it from energy stores within my body, but where that energy came from i havent a clue
i can take it from other people or myself..but so energy you get can be bad..
The universe is created by the build up of Zaro-point fields until either strings or sub-quantum particles "dots" are formed.
These things then go on to form atoms etc.
Human consciouseness is the product of the brain interacting with bosons (S-A. P) and creating a 4D function, thought.
As we know you cannot create or destroy energy but matter can change it and visa versa.
We also know that observation and perception can have a direct physical effect on the object(s) being observed.
If one can train their mind to perceive something it can have a reverse effect on the path of thought and then change something..or form magic.
You could consider this a Directed Manipulation of Quantum Entanglement. The notion that all things are connected and can interact with each other in near zero time, regardless of distance.
One could also suggest that the mind can affect torsion fields and from a small amount of energy alter these fields to create large amounts of change.
It is very hard to prove these things due to scale but mathimatics have shown this possible. Along with a number of private experiments. I hope this helps :)
I believe that energy is limitless, yes it flows in and out, back and forth, always forward moving, progessing, energy is waiting for a direction to go.
It is boundless, As most has said it does come from almost anywhere, almost everything consumes energy then puts out its own energy, The moon taking the suns, the produce her own moon raise.
The plant consumes light and water. And then nurishes the earth when it dies, or the one whos consumes the plant.
In all I believe it is a circle.
i believe that you should draw the energy from within and grow from that
