Jesus was not gentle, Jesus was a Lion -- a freedom fighter. His whole campaign against the Romans was based on the idea that he could defeat evil by submitting his body to the very worst things the Romans could do. Defeat their weapons by embracing death by the same weapons as had brought evil into his land. He deliberately enacted the punishment of Isaiah's Suffering Servant expecting God to rise and drive the evil out of his country. Much in the same way as some of you embrace monsters in order to have the magic to defeat them.
Do any of you take this as a philosophy? That you can defeat evil, by instead of fighting it, accept it?
If I wanted to read from a bible verse, I would go to church, that being said, I will continue...
First off, I am wondering what this has to do with the paranormal, or vampires for that matter. It seems as though you are starting a religious debate on philosophies.
Adonay was not a war mongrel, if that is what you are implying. His story is very well known without someone putting it into their own words again and again.
Choose your path carefully when it comes to forum threads, ones such as this may be closed due to the fact that it is very controversial.
For one, JC did not have a campaign against Romans. He had a mission that preached three things; the belief in one supreme being, the kingdom of God, and the Brotherhood of Man. The quote that was provided only replies to what happens when one becomes enlighten and sees that there other things in life than the physical. Self-empowerment does not work well with others.
and that being said my friend soulshroude, let me add controversy is the soul of discussion. Sometimes. :)
Avoiding the controversy and tired story and bad example given, I will add that facing demons is often times the only way to defeat them. Simply put, if darkness is your lot, make the demons your generals and learn control of them to obtain power. Turning fear into strength is a really powerful method of conquering and mastering your life.
It is possible to actually accept evil into yourself to help defeat or defend against evil.
I accept the darkness within myself to help defend against the evils of the world. Finding that it is much easier to fight, "Fire with Fire." Using dark magick to defeat other dark magick. Using my own negative energies to block other negative energies sent to me.
Demons have attacked me many times before, trying to pierce my shield which I must keep active at all times. Mostly the lesser ones trying to get to me, sometimes in groups easily defended as long as you don't allow them in. Several times a more intelligent one has come along and tried to convice me to let down my guard and I would gain power from it.
There is power to be gained from this for the people with the strength of will and mind to control this creature, but more often then not this will always end badly for you.
Enough said.
My point I am trying to make is regardless of what you personally believe as far as religions, christian, wiccan, vampire, atheist, Pagan in general, or jewish is I have seen evil, looked into it's eyes and said, "Fuck you."
Evil is real and well among us in both spiritual form, and in people. Be aware and be safe.
Blessed be.
Indeed, sometimes defeating evil means letting it win a battle or two.
this is always mis-understanding about individuals not concentrating on the parable of any scripture piece. Always taking things out of context and creating their own words to justify contemplation.
Adonay was a very spiritual individual. He as well did not say worship me, he merely asked for them to LEARN from him. He had no campaign.
If you call the 12 apostles a campaign than I sort of see where you are headed. But unfortunatly campaigns are usually not ended with martyrdom.
He was not an individual for himself, his will was for the betterment of mankind as Billy has already stated. He was not against the Romans, he had no quarrel with them.
It doesn't work. For one there is no Evil that exists. But only acts that are called evil. And I believe that these acts will always be in a society. So fighting or accepting them makes no difference. The native Americans tried accepting whiteman's evil and see what happened to them! Gandhi had better luck but that was only because england gave in because of their country's ego.
You are discussing the facts claimed by the bible more then evil itself. What point are you trying to make here?
Now as far as I feel about demons. I will win every battle! For anything worth fighting for is worth doing right!
( Grabs a bag of popcorn and waits for another post from Billy.)
Completely philosophical point Billy. In all society, evil is really in the eye of the beholder. As well as any moral anecdotes. One mans fun is anothers hell is a good way to put it. Unfortunatly no one may take away the darker deeds done by your fellow individual. Such is the way of life. This is the law of Universal Rite.
Haha soulshroude. :) there is no one in the web like billy. :) he's a good person to have around.
Evil=subjective
I am evil
I am subjective?
No-one can take them away, that may be true. But we can learn from them. Understand the battle between good and evil. This was within the teachings of JC and his Brotherhood of Man teachings. Many were not ready for them, still not since there are no longer being taught. People need to come to terms with this "I" that is always being mentioned.
Evil separates us from the godhead. It is not a battle against "good."
ok, now billy has gone and done it. i have to move to a real computer to reply to this one because i have thought about this for a long long time.
billy: i don't believe personally that evil is what separates us from the godhead. as you stated earlier, there is no evil, there are only evil actions and the decision to do them.
in the book of genesis, when mankind learned the difference between good and evil (by eating the forbidden fruit), god said that mankind had been made like himself, knowing the difference between good and evil.
the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; this tree is the one that allowed mankind the ability to choose and in making that choice, we are like the godhead.
the main difference does not lie in the fact that we choose one or the other. rather, it's the power to make that choice that makes us like god. at that point, the choice came down where man was not forced, but allowed to choose between good and evil.
i had previously thought that eating the apple is what separated man from the godhead, but in reality, i now believe it is what makes us godlike. to hold the power to choose between creation and destruction. to bring about the creation of worlds (just look at the internet) or the destruction of floods (we're destroying the environment). those are loose examples, but they illustrate the point.
You been hanging around Barabbas again haven't you? There was a belief and group that wanted to fight sword with sword but JC's quote was not to be taken literally. Barabbas later found out the truth before his death. His eyes became open. One of these days, yours will too.
The posts in this thread seem to be turning into Iron Maiden lyrics...I love it.
The evil that men do lives on and on. The godhead statement goes well with all scenerios...Even when it comes to the judgement of mankind. The judicial system is just that way. There is a Judge that may gavel your life into the electric chair if you piss them off.
Which ever way your view is of good vs. evil, still remains in the eye of the beholder.
Krishna tells us very clearly what evil really is in the Gita. The Garden story is nothing but a story about sex, meaning is hidden for children. Forbidden fruit? Sex! The story was taught differently a long time ago.
And as for JC being a warrior, maybe as a archetype. But that strength was within and not for defeating any evil.
Ok...I'm too stoned to talk about morality and get serious, but I will say this.
Evil and Goodness are so close together there is no line drawn, but a large grey area that cannot be defined. Was it good to kill a murder, would you shoot hitler.
Mankind is both good and evil. Our choices define who we are not what we are.
There was also a point were duality did not exist on this planet. Story goes that it was Eve's choice to add it. The Planetary prince at that time convinced her that it would spend mankind's learning in half. Like burning a candle at both ends. Evil as a Nature, does not exist. It cannot if you believe in this one supreme omni God. Thats by definition.
Billy, leave Barabas alone already...You still owe him that 5 dollars anywho. Thought I forgot about that one didn't you??
If Adonay was searching out evil, just to confront it, then this would be related to the time he was confronted by the daemon of 5000, or was it 1000 souls. Or the time he was approached by Lucifer himself.
I think he was more understanding rather than in confrontation with them both rather than defeated by them.
exactly. Evil doesn't exist. it's the actions and the decision to do something + the perception by everyone else that make something truly evil. by the same token, there is no such thing, then, as Good.
Good must also be in the eye of the beholder, for what is good for one is never good for all.
Too bloody right with that one Death, its like asking Ted Bundy if it was good that he killed. Of course his opinion might be a yes. Bloody deranged psychopaths.
Or a pyromaniac that burned a school down. Was it good for you? Yeah, I even brought the marshmallows and hotdogs.
What did you expect, all individuals to lead an upstanding and morally lived atmosphere? Come now.
*hides from the vr members*
ok.... I have to step into this thread I was raised Christian, Jesus according to the Christian religion was not on a crusade the only thing he did was go from town to town to preach of his"father"God.He according to Christian religion knew he would die on the cross to pay for the evils that mankind has done. Further more the most he really did minus the one time he basically destroyed a church due to the idol worshiping they had started.JC was known really as a peaceful just man who tried to help those in need( did not princess Diana, mother teresa, ghandi do the same thing ?)
Billy, your last post just reminded me of the old Highlander The Series episode where Duncan went looking for the Native American consumed by all evil.
Eventually he found him, they clashed swords and the Native was beheaded, therefore Duncan was consumed by the evils.
I think this would be the Warrior concept you mentioned. No fear of any evils, no matter how terrible the consumption.
Adding one thing I just remembered I wanted to add in.
also perform things called miracles in the religion bread to feed the masses along with fish. water to wine(yay they had koolaid back then)
however, no where in the Christian bible has it ever stated Jesus was a freedom fighter he did not die on the cross for one culture he died on the cross for all cultures.(Religion really is a controversial subject)
The trouble with being a warrior archetype is: you never get the girl/ princess! :(
Damn Billy, sucks to be you...(Chuckles).
Eh, I think the way of the warrior has its prize in the end. Whether it be the fair maiden or otherwise noble honours.
That is so true. Look at Mario or Link
they really never get the girl.
damn it people! link was hot! mario... not so much. i think its the 'stache and the overalls... bad style.
and link? wasn't he .. elvish? elves are hawt... er hot. it's gotta be the ears. *looks at billy's ears* ?
yes it is a common idea that to beat something you must first become it/them. This is so you learn and grow stronger. In real sense you dont become one you look, listern and learn so you know all their tricks and how they go about doing busniess.
How do you know which side is evil anyway. Just because your on one side doesnt mean that it is the good side. The other side may feel the same that they are good and you are evil.
not to bring issues into the forum so please do not take it in any context, however sock
As stated I was raised in that religion jesus was no freedom fighter with a sword also his only task was to free the world of sin not to rid the world of the Roman's or to fight Caesar he would rather you cut him a hundred times before he would lift a finger.
There is a book called the Bible it depicts everything Jesus whether he existed or not and all he did. For those that believe thats your right for those that do not it is a great story book.Teaches right from wrong
how to treat one another and so forth.
It would be better if there was another example besides Jesus. Because you are way off base. Many at that time believe that a Messiah would come and bring peace but the peace they were looking for was from the romans and others. Not peace within themselves! The sword that Jesus mentions is a sword that will cut all ties to old beliefs and connection to the physical. Remember that he was taught by the Essenes not the Marine Corps!
You are not going to be able to fight something that doesn't really exist, then consume it, and have it not effect you. It doesn't exist in the first place.
There you go again Mr. Socko...Taking things out of context once again. Just because it mentions a sword as a parable in the bible, does not mean to take it literally.
I thought Ted Bundy was a perfect example of some taking the aspect of bad for good. I stand by this no matter how much you contemplate my resolute. My convictions are always just, no matter of how bad taste they may be.
And yes, good and evil are in the eye of the beholder, thus is the subject matter of Ted Bundy. Just because religious zionists still want society to believe that their "GOD" is the be all end all, does not mean everyone else shares their beliefs.
To be consumed by evil, is to join evil...Thus evil is absolute? Nay says I...Consumed by anything is a moral anecdote for those troubled by their own consultations, and confidence. Let each individual take heed of their own actions and consequences thereof. To hell with the naysayers.
i have found this point of view to be interesting, and honestly dont know ow to answer this one yet i will ponder on this one and return with a answer
Soulshroude you are preaching a form of Calvanism. Well an extreme form of Calvanism, Antinomianism, which assumes that a man chosen by the grace of God for heavenly glory is not bound by the moral law and hence can commit no sin. Ted Bundy is not God's favorite child for whom the universe was created, and he is not guiltless for the evil he has committed. But you are still off the point, because I am not talking about Ted Bundy.
And you still have not answered my question. Perhaps Browning's poem says it better than me-
I have God's warrant, could I blend
All hideous sins, as in one cup,
To drink the mingled venoms up,
Secure my nature will convert
The draught to blossoming gladness...
Do you seek out the evil, the hideous sins, the venom, so you can confront it. And in confronting it, defeat it?
If u want to defeat evil u have to seek it out and confront it. If u dont confront it there is no way to defeat it
No matter how much I re-iterate my posts, you may drop me into any stereotypical facet you so choose.
Ted Bundy was a mere example of good vs evil in the mind as it is a simple "justifiable means". For you, I will instead talk in more of a patronizing nature, as you do not seem to grasp certain concepts.
(Insert name of confused serial killer who thinks killing is a good thing here) Goes out to confront the evil he/she thinks is in society...Thereby destroying this evil they think in their mind is as such. But instead killed off something wonderful. Not realizing the differance.
That being said, you may confront all the evil in the world, you may not destroy it as it is all in the "eye of the beholder" of what is good vs evil. You begin to understand why it is named "evil" in the first place. Justifing the means.
Though I should not have to explain these concepts to grown adults, but since I do not know you from the hooker down the block, I am not even sure if I should give you the time of day...Let alone a lesson in morality.
In closing, I believe I have answered your question a total of 3 times with different re-iterations of the same aspects.
One individuals answer would be a parable to another, understanding is as a poem for the wiseman who takes all things with a grain of salt. Live and let learn.
One individuals answer would be a parable to another, understanding is as a poem for the wiseman who takes all things with a grain of salt. Live and let learn?
You are not going to be able to fight something that doesn't really exist, then consume it, and have it not effect you. It doesn't exist in the first place.
you except there is evil ,then alow God to work throught you to defeat it
The perception of evil "is in the eye of the beholder". For example: An individual straps a bomb on himself and blows himself and 20 or 30 other people in a crowded market. Is this person evil or was the act acceptable to promote his belief's? It is how you perceive the action of the individual, not always the act itself. Through out the ages, mankind has murdered in the name of religion men, women and children... These acts were commanded by God and deemed "good or holy", but how could any act of murder be acceptable in a rational world ? By the perception you possess of the action.
this thread caught my eye and i must say it is interesting if nothing else, first off if there is one thing we can all agree on is we never truely hear history as it actually happened or without some form of adjenda ...also i agree with the fact that evil is in the eye of the beholder ...this debate is just chalked full of polotics i wont go into right now but if im not mistaken the thread simply says evil so i think we got off the intended topic a while back lol
hmmm so evil is not in the eye of the beholder
take 9/11 to anyone in the usa it was an act of evil.
What was it to those that did it? Well frankly since so many nations outside the usa consider us evil. Then what they did in their minds was heroism.
EVIL is in the eye of the beholder end of story.
what one thinks is good another doesnt
Q: Do any of you take this as a philosophy? That you can defeat evil, by instead of fighting it, accept it?
A: Yes I do in a sense. Say for instance One is an alcoholic. By accepting the disease or "evil" One can begin to defeat it by changing the way one thinks, acts and lives.
On the other hand accepting that a suicide bomber is about to act probably will not change the outcome.
Has JC's sacrifice defeated "evil"? Has the world been purged of everything he sought to change? Definitely not. Same evil, just more of it relative to the population explosion.
The Serenity Prayer:
G_d grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Ps. I thought religion was a taboo topic here...
I think reading down this Thread just made me drool...
First I would like to say that you people are digging too deep. Atoms? Good vs Evil? WTF? Today's world is not run on Good vs Evil. We're too dazed and smokescreened for that now. Now I'm answering this Thread as if I were in 2008..since I'm in that time zone now, right?
I don't get why people bring everything back ages ago. That world is long gone..forget it. It's a whole new world now then even in the 1990s.
Now to answer the question..
Do any of you take this as a philosophy? That you can defeat evil, by instead of fighting it, accept it?
You can't defeat something by joining it or accepting it. You can join it just to leave it, and THEN defeat it, but that's not actually joining something.
usually yes it is. Though this topic seems to have kept from getting to the point of too much thus far.
As for Jc being crucified, it was to remove the current sin in the world not the sin that would come later. If reading the bible and believing it,Or simply to read it to have some knowledge it also stated that sin would be there it just reseted so no sin was present that moment.Once sin started back into the world the only way to reach heaven would be to ask for forgiveness.
(sometimes I hate the fact I grew up knowing all this)
'defeating evil by embracing it is to become a whore to that which you fight.' - unknown hippy
sure, you can defeat 'evil' by embracing it, but to embrace the 'evil' would be dirtying your 'good' intent.
it's better to fight the 'evil' head on with courage and without faltering.
(i must say, i am not exactly the favourite person of most christians i know, but even i am slightly offended to see you refering to JC, a man who set a strong example of victory through pacifism, as a warrior. he worked to stop fighting, he allowed himself to be killed to protect others and to atone for their sins, not to further a 'crusade' against the romans. he tought forgiveness, not revenge and fighting and i feel could never be said to have a 'crusade' against anyone)
Great thread...
So evil is in the eye of the beholder eh? I think not. Yes, it can be "conceptual" with each having their own definition due to upbringing and dogma within such.
But Pure Evil does exist in a very real energy form, It is Negativity, and should we ever try to snuff it out, the balance here would go askew. I have seen evil, smelled evil, and tasted evil. It is very real
"Know thy enemy" I would think that to join the forces of evil, (Negative actions/energy's) the enemy would power up by one. and If any one thinks they can just back away from that demon which they have committed to, they are sorely mistaken. If you have given yourself over, then all is lost with out great sacrifice.
No, you can not win by joining with that which you fight/despise.
I agree with LAZ. If you completely give in to something/someone and accept it/them, you can not turn back. Doing the Trojan's move is another story though, it is not joining anything. It is simply deception. If you really join something, you are letting it win..not you.
I also agree that evil is an energy and is alive. Without evil the world would not spin. With evil and good being in the eyes of the beholder, that means only people control this world, which is very far from true.
So what your saying is that evil is not in the eye of the beholder ?
Using Lucifer himself as prime example, The devil satan what ever you want to call him.
He tried to over throw god for what? self gain I think not.Angels pretty much have no free will according to religion only 1 purpose.
so either.
A. god gave him the mind to over throw him Which completely changes what was stated in the bible.
B.Lucier tired of being a servant wanted the best of his brethren angels.
So is what Lucifer did bad ? eye of the beholder my friends
God vs evil has nothing to do with modern age. you guys are taking something from a book that also has women are evil and liars. A book that has a man say you can rape my wife and daughters just dont hurt these men...you say that today someone is getting shot...most likely the husband. Those times have nothing to do with these times...
most are using the examples given by the author of this thread
I agree with PoisonBelle. I think the question of this Thread is asked to the people of this site, which, I hope, all live in the year 2008. If this question was asked 200 - 500 years ago, then you can mention satan, gods, ect.
In today's world these things are very faded and thrown about like nothing.
OK wait a minute and back up..You sockpuppet..you stated that Jesus was persecuted FOR Jewish religious freedom. That is complete and utter HORSE-SHIT. The Jews are the one who demanded that he be crucified because they were afraid that he was making the people stop listening to the Jewish High Priests. They demanded the Romans crucify and beat him. They wanted his blood, they wanted him dead. They feared him. They are the ones who paid Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus.
The Romans would have let Jesus go. Instead when asked if they wished to let a murderer go or an innocent prophet (Jesus), the Jewish Elders demanded that the Romans let the murderer go and that Jesus be the one crucified.
And before it is said, no I am NOT a Christian at all, but had Christian upbringings. I have had teachings in alot of faiths - Jewish, Mormon, Baptist, Catholic and Methodist - and I myself am a PAGAN, but I do know the story well..and I have seen the Passion Of The Christ as well, which is said to have been the most accurate out of all the movies made - I don't know for sure - I was NOT there, and don't know anyone alive that was.
Oh and I posted before I was through, sorry. I believe that good vs. evil is a balance. I don't expect some god or angel to come save me, and i dont expect some devil to do it either.
I dont believe in any serpents or any of that crap that was written in my eyes, by MAN. Especially seeing as how many versions and interpretations of the Bible are out there.
That "Good Book" has been written so many times and changed that I wouldn't trust a thing it says.
I believe that if you are evil then karma will come back and bite you in the ass. And if you are a good person, then it will be your reward in the end. That is all. No burning in "Hell", and not being made an angel and ascending to "Heaven " when your time on Earth has finished.
I disagree with queenmorbid's AND sockpuppet's theory on the persecution of Jesus. But this is way too personal and, in my opinion, shouldn't be brought forth and argued over as this can get very messy very fast.
I think everyone should just simply answer the question asked. Lets not get personal here please...
The question was this:
Do any of you take this as a philosophy? That you can defeat evil, by instead of fighting it, accept it?
I think that by accepting it are you not instead increasing the evil your trying to get rid of?
If a group of people was killing innocent babies, Would the evil be gone if you joined in it ?
The only way to disperse evil is simply not to follow it, Choose what you know is the proper course cause over all evil is how you perceive it . Is it not ?
Oh Vampirika hon, I am not asking anyone to agree with me, I don't even believe in it myself, what I am saying is that in almost every telling of the "Story" is that he was crucified because of the Jews "Wickedness" and in punishment, "God" destroyed their temple.
I am not a Christian, but I have heard many versions of the story. And while I put no one down for their beliefs, which was not what I was trying to do by the way, just adding another point of view, because for certainty, none of us really know what happened. We don't even know if the story was accurately told when it was translated. None of us were there. But I can tell you what I do believe...anyone read or seen the Davinci Code? I believe if there really was a Jesus, that like the book said, he was just an ordinary man with extraordinary beliefs and tendencies. I believe that if he did exist, then he did good things for people, yes, but as for the rest? I don't.
what seems evil to one person may seem right to someother vindictive person but baby killing is evil
it was just an example red I love children a lot. And did not want to use that example but it was one of the best for this topic.
You can get what i was trying to say right? To say that he died for one people is horseshit...and thats what I was trying to get at. I was raised by my grandmother as a pagan, but at the same time I was raised as baptist, catholic and methodist by other family members, and by my best friends grandmother as Mormon, and her husband was Jewish. My parents believed in me being well rounded in more than one faith and choosing for myself what I wanted to follow. They believe in choosing which one is right for you, what you are comfortable with.
And no where in that King James bible or any other non-Jewish book does it say that Jesus died strictly for the Jews.
And I think I may have gotten this a little off topic in this debate, but just wanted to throw in another point of view for people to look at.
Sorry guys.
I do not follow the bible much, but I can give you my take. I agree with Wiccanpothead, Evil is in all of us, yet so is good. There is a balance between the two that is defined by the individual. I.E., I am Evil by societal standards, I am not a rapest, or molester, or criminal, but I do not believe in someone telling me what is good and evil. It is my job to know myself and determine what the definition is. I will do things that I have no remorse for, as we all do. We all have to decide what is best for us. And no offense to the God fearing folk here, I think that following the bible is just another way that the unenlightened can be sheep. Know yourself and to yourself be true. I think that the Wiccan's said it best when they say "Harm None", yet reallity dictates that some are in need of being harmed. We are a great country, but would you not agree that we have a self serving fool that runs it? Is that not the purest case of good and evil?
This is actually probably one of the better threads here and has definately generated a lot of debate. I have read some very interesting posts here.
Excellent thread and I am sorry to say that I don't believe that one has to "fight" evil. You make a valid point though QueenM. Is not so far off topic at all.
I am glad some people are able to see my debating side..lol. I have been debating with a good friend of mine about this thread all morning and having fun with it. This is interesting to me, and I love a good debate. I love bringing in many points to broaden the horizons as well. If I am posting anything in this thread, I am asking no one to be offended, because it is not meant to be, I am just trying to broaden the discussion and maybe throw a bit more onto the fire, so to speak. I am not trying to flame anyone or hurt feelings, and nothing said will hurt mine.

Not going into the religious aspect of this, I want to address the question of "You can defeat evil, by instead of fighting it, accept it?"
Are we talking acceptance that evil is in the world? Or is it that you ask if we take it into our own life, take the evil as a part of us?
Are we not doing that now? Has not humans been doing that since before Jesus?
If we do not accept the evil to a degree, how would we know the lighter/ good side? If you do not have evil thoughts and desires, how can you know you are having good ones?
Defeat it? Why should I. The evil shows me the good, the dark the light in my life. You can not have one without the other.
I agree with that point as well VampireWitch...that is another point I was trying to make. there is a balance. Good cannot exist without evil, just as evil cannot exist without good. We would not be able to tell right from wrong without one or the other.
I am totally with your thoughts there Vampwitch. This is totally true, there has to be a balance a yin and yang. For one to exist there has to be the other. Hopefully the evil does not have to be truly evil though.
And Yes QueenM I too love a good debate, get the mind kickin!
I am actually liking the trend this thread is taking while still actually being on track as far as fighting evil. I like that we are loosing a bit of the religious aspect of it and just taking the idea of having to "fight" evil be it passively or agressively and running with it.

Then the next question I would ask- Why do you fight the evil in you? Why not give into you hate, your desire to hurt?
Is it the "religion" you have been taught? The threat of heaven or hell? Or is it the morals you have in you? Myself- I am not from a very "holy is thy name" family, but I was raised with a strong moral core. But even I cheat, hate, lie and hurt people. Would I kill someone? To stop them from hurting another or myself- yes. But some would even see that as wrong.
It is how each of us understand what is evil and how much we give into it that makes us different, and not some mindless robots with the same program. That is why we need evil in our lifes.
But then... that might not be what the Sockpuppet is talking about. :)
i think that it depends on the evil you are talking about some came be defeated by fighting and other by taking it in
That honestly isn't much of a philosophy. And what it says really isn't close to what J-C did.
NocnaMora -
Do you really know what Jesus said? If so, please be so kind and message me. I want to know who Jesus really is. =)
If not, your last post was much too bold and extreme of a statement, in my opinion, to have been posted without any back bone to it.
As Queenmorbid said, nobody knows what really happen, we only have opinions and beliefs. I think that in these kinds of threads people should use "I think" or "I believe" a lot to avoid looking like a fool.
I never said anything about what he said. =] Just what he did in the bible.
Its also easier, to read exactly what someone said, unless you want to look like a fool. ;-]
Some want a 2008 example. The US government has backed repressive dictatorships for decades because "it was practical", and repressive dictatorships were deemed a stable, safe, and reliable way to gain proxy control of resources and territory. Then along comes along the current US government policy of actively fighting the axis of evil.
I don't think many would argue against President Reagan and President Bush and say that the moral principle of fairness and non-repression is not good, but have they created more good in the world by trying to violently opposing these evil forces? Is there a better way? Not actively colluding with evil, not violently opposing evil, but choosing a third option. Do people who embrace darkness have a third option that does not make more evil?
And to answer sockpuppet's question...well actually I can't answer it. I think politics are still out of bounds on VR.
The greatest joke ever played was when Satan convinced us he didn't exist.
No you can not become that which you want to defeat in order to defeat it. The trick is to not feed it, or feed into it...
No , the war between Good and Evil metaphorical or otherwise will still be being waged long after I have gone to dust and VR's servers have gone silent.
I don't think you should accept into yourself what you want to defeat, for you may become it. You should accept the existance of it and attempt to understand it.
ow here i go again lol, ok first i would like to say how impressed i am with everyone in this thread for not letting personal ideas or philosophical disagreements come between a good old fashioned debate...that being said ,i dont think its fair to use any historical context involving "jc" because in a nutt shell we cant take any of what knowledge has been passed as the whole truth...philosophy may be the word to use on this topic, most of the story involving jc must be taken on faith and that is not debateable to someone who has any so lets just let that one alone, however someone brought up 911 earlier and made a nice point involving the topic of evil....you could swing the blame either way and have legit grips on both sides, it then becomes a question of who is more evil i think....do i believe that evil is an outside force or something inate from within...hmmmmm that is the question!
It's just amazing that because of free will there are so many different interpretations of the greatest story ever told.
It seems we all are guilty of paraphrasing, just picking out the bits that suit us -- we will never learn.
othis,
that is called a flaming what you said read the VR manual each has the right to there own opinion.
I see evil as subjective I have known people to do evil things. Has nothing to do with Jesus or his beliefs.

This reminds me of my lesson last week (The Historical Jesus)... fact is, believers don't really know Jesus the way we'd like to (in historical terms, in human terms)- even the Gospels contradict each other. But does it really matter? I even wrote a long journal entry about it yesterday. "Do not focus on details to the extent of losing truth and meaning." And that's good advice for anything.
Do any of you take this as a philosophy? That you can defeat evil, by instead of fighting it, accept it?
It all depends on the situation. I am not the Messiah, my conscience tells me to fight back at times, to not give in, for the common good.
That's some good advice imagesinwords. I completely agree with it too. Don't break everything down into such tiny pieces, because when you do, you're also breaking down the truth in a way.
images, I very nearly left a comment in your journal ... but I hate to preach :-p
*imagesinwords edit* You are welcome to comment, disagree, give a thumbs up, or just say "I came, I read, I very nearly left a comment in your journal ... but I hate to preach :-p" :D
I am of the opinion that by passively ignoring evil, you are encouraging it. I am of the belief that do no harm is a way of living so that being said it would be my way to try to find a way to stop evil in a passive aggressive way. Not to... shall I say go in with guns blazing.
I forget who said it however.
To do nothing in the eye of the beast is to give it power, To go head first to the beast is foolish,To run from the beast it gains strength,However Tremble and acknowledge the beast and it weakens.
