They say they don’t have enough money to build us a church even though they promote everyone to follow there faith as it is needed in prison as a coping mechanism.
Wands and tarot cards ect are not aloud still
With the increase of paganism in England those numbers will increase and others decrease for sure.

My question do you feel pagans need a church and to be allowed wands and tarot cards in prison?

I don't think a building in and of itself but they should be afforded a place and time to practice.
As for wands etc. only the items that are necessary such as books, cards and small candles should be allowed. For security purposes certain things should not be allowed wands, staffs, large crucifixes and so on.

Regardless of the faith and remembering it is a prison, some things should be allowed and others not. You have a right to pray and discuss but you don't have a right to offer some full ceremonies.

If other religions are offered a place where they can worship then I see no reason why Pagans wouldn't have their church.
Are normal cards permitted in prison? If so, then tarot cards should be allowed too.

I agree with Xzavier here, a prison is a place of exile. As such, even if prayer is allowed, the tools of prayer may be outlawed for the reason of exile. rights and privilages are taken away since the individual committed whatever crime disavowed the privilage. Therefore, any individual can and and will have reprocussions when proven guilty of crimes committed.

A lot of religious people in prison - it obviously had limited effect on their behaviour in the outside world so I can't see what effect it would have inside.

Good point ~Hell~, since the term "faith" stems from what one would believe inside their heart, then no tool could be taken away that reflects what said individual believes. Usually the tools are a conduit for said faith anywho, no matter what belief system the individual follows, or adapts to.

everyone should be given the oppurtunity to pratice what ever religion they choose. This can be done by just giving a room to hold services. They have to restrict some items due to security measures

So they should also have candles? A group who discuss..who meditates to raise energy. A building is just a building. It is the discussion and yes, I agree what is in their hearts. Every religion is learning. You can substitute what they give you in prison for tools. For it is not the tools, as it is the heart...the knowledge. The belief the person hold inside one's self.

I do not see a need for a pagan church to be build.

If you have your faith and you belive in it, then there is no need to go into a huge construction practise it.

As for wands, I do not think they should be allowed since they could be used as weapons. Poking in the eye and other various places is not so good.

As for tarotcards, well I cannot see what harm they could do, and if you really use them and know how, then fine by me.

it would not be practical to have a seperate place of worship for every religion, and i can see a very good reason not to allow wands or athames - but i don't see why tarot cards should not be allowed. this just sounds like personal discrimination to me. they don't disallow christians to have bibles.

The need for a specific building or "church" for pagans is rather silly since much of their belief involves nature. The wand isn't a necessary item for their worship and as a potential weapon deserves to be banned. Since it is prison they should expect some hardships.

Since many pagans still have to practice their religion without the fanfare of big rituals, in order to protect their jobs or families, why should prisoners be any better?

As far as religion not doing them any good, that's more a christian faith teaching than a pagan one so it doesn't really apply. Even if it should do so.

if you are still alive you have a place to pratice. wicca as with all religions is a matter of faith. you temple or your place of worship is inside of you. because you dont have a building you dont have your faith? if you cant pratice your faith inside yourself what are you saying about your faith? does a building make a christian a christian? as for tarot cards being alowed in prison, yes i believe they should be. if you are going to allow christians bibles why not afford the same curtosy to wiccans. candles and wands are another story. even if a praticing wiccan had no intention of doing harm with them, there are a lot more people in prison who would use them to harm others.(e.g. starting fires, stabing among other things) to be completely honest i have done time and there are some sick people in prisons. i still praticed my religion of wicca, without a building, or any of the tools of my religion. the goddess will provide all you need.
blessed be

Wow im shocked at some of the mentalities towards prisoners, not everyone in prison is guilty or a murderous or sex offender. As for churches us pagans had lots of churches they got pulled down by Constantine and new ones built in there place with the stones.
And pagan is not wiccan, wicca is a 50 yearold religion please don’t mix them up in replying ….lol
Wow I sound upset, lol just a hot day n sad that people don’t care.

I feel that wicca is the same as any other religion and if they feel that they need a church and wands and cards then they should have them ,I mean what can they do with them kill themselves, they have bibles and crosses and rosaries in a Christian faith so ...

I think every religion should be recognized. Especially paganism, because of the fact it is mostly a religion from old times.

All recognized faiths should be treated equally in prison save for allowing any items that can be used as a weapon towards the guards or other prisoners. That's simple common sense.

I do not feel a special building or temple is necessary for worship not even Christianity requires that or didn't Jesus preach to the masses outside in nature?

Building a seperate church, temple or building for every practice would not be feasible. As long as there is a proper place (or places) set aside to allow people of all religions, faiths and paths to practice and worship that is sufficient. I do not think that having tarot cards and wands are intrinsic to pagan worship, and agree that allowing them could cause problems. (Either in the sense that these tools could be used as weapons, used to perform negative spells or would be looked at by other prisoners as being given special privledges.)

well I feel all religions whether in prison or not should be recognised and respected, yet as for wands etc... they are not a *need* item to worship the pagan religion. I am wiccan and well here in the USA they just recognised wiccan as a religion almost 15 yrs ago in the prison system and anything that could be used as a weapon or harmful to others is kept with the Minister locked up and only allowed to use upon request that has been approved. so maybe they should try that. I mean they do no tneed their own *building* or anything as such since it is a religion mainly based on Nature and natural resources. just my opinion ...yet should be respected and allowed to worship regardless..

No i dont feel that a place of worship is needed as you can practice your faith where ever. as for wands and tarot cards being allowed. I can see why wans wouldn't be allowed, could be percieved as a weapon but tarot cards i wouldn't see that as a issue, regualr playing cards are allowed.

A building is not necessary to worship but if there are rooms for the other religions then there should be one for the Pagans as well. Obviously its not safe to have wands in prison, so no on that one, safety is the first priority in any prison. As far as the cards go they seem harmless enough.

I agree that pagan and Wiccan,Wicca are different and not to be confused as the exact same religion.

Anyhoo, I also feel that all religions should be respected as KryptLove mentioned in her post I feel no matter what they deserve the same treatment as any of the other religions in a prison system, as was also said in the ealier post .. here in the USA the Wiccan/Wicca religion was finally recognised in the prison systems and they are allowed certain objects and things within reason with them in their cells, yet the other stuff is to be locked and only allowed to use during certain times that they need them for that particular worshipping etc.

Cards and stuff are harmless so unless it could be used to harm someone, then they should be allowed to have what they need ....
