I have a question a lot of witch groups use drums when performing a spell. What is the reason for this, ? Just I was brought up a solitary witch and learned from my grandmother the ancient ways, Also there are a lot of dancing around during some rituals, can any one help?
I am not a practicioner of magic, but I have read that drums help with chanting and raising energy, and so does the dancing...ofcourse I could be wrong.
he repetition of sacred or magical words names and phrases to alter or raise the psychic powers. Chanting is often done with dancing, drumming, visualization and body movements and postures, is one of the oldest and most universal techniques to align human consciousness with the realms of spirits and the Gods/ Goddesses.
The principle behind chanting is expressed in the eastern mystical concept of the mantra, sacred words or the names of Gods/Goddesses like Isis, Pan etc. these are chanted verbally or silently. When in a group they are chanted verbally and you feel the energy around when chanting. The term mantra means, " to protect" especially the mind. The mantra harnesses the power of the vibration of shabda, sacred sound. The repetition unleashes certain cosmic forces that drive deep into unconsciousness. When the name of Gods/Goddesses is chanted or repeated.
In magic, when chanting is done it is to help raise energy for example a spell or desired goal. The energy sent out into the spiritual realm thus works to manifest change in the physical realm. Chanting has been an important part of magical rituals since ancient times. In ancient Greece, female sorcerers were said to howl their magical chants. Early and medieval sorcerers and magicians also chanted their incantations in forceful voices, a practice carried into modern times.
Chants of contemporary Witches and Pagans may be names of Goddess or Horned God, rhymes, charms, alliterative phrases, or sacred words or runes, there are also chant songs. Chanting is also done at many gatherings that usually gets faster as the energy is raised.

As far as I know, the vibrations produced by beating on drums is supposed to be very helpful in creating energy to be used.
The Native American people use the chants and drums during their cermonies as well. The main reason for this is because of the vibrations that are made is a form of energy to them. Combined with the dancing and chanting makes the ritual or ceremony have more effect to them.
As well as in the Voodoo, Voodoun, Voodun rituals, drums are used to call upon the Lowa as well as the Iwa when the summoner needs them for which ever ritual is in action at the time...They use the drums to communicate with one another across streets and through cities as well.
well the drums sound waves is a way of helpin the spell get more energy so it will b a lil stronger when u cast it an the same 4 dancein cuz ur steps make sound waves that do the same
as far as i know, drums can be used as a way of focusing your intent in the spell that is being cast. this is done by creating a strong rythm that allows for better concentration and ultimately, a stronger effect can come from it.
I've been told drumming lowers the heart rate, brings down blood pressure, putting you into a more meditative state!
it sopposed to put in a meditattive state to better interact with the other side
Many carribean cults santeria, voodoo, hoodoo all use the drums to help create the beat for incantations
My group does not use drums. But I believe they are just to help the spell become stronger
there is many reasons for the drums,
some use it as a trance or a way to get yourself into the feeling of what it is you are doing, the repetition of the beats is what does it, you can perform an effective spell or ritual without the drums, but like any of the other tools such as athame, bell, candles, etc... it helps to set the mood..
the dancing is also a part of the ritual as showing your participation and equality as well as healing the earth and the elements, the drums assist the dance
there are rituals that include the dancing without the drums and drums without the dancing, and of course many are without either
Many here said it well, it raises the vibrations within yourself and those around you.
Music is uplifting in some cases, when you hear a song you love on the radio and listen to it you can feel your energy increase. Same as the beating of a drum, ringing in your body; I love to listen to Indian music the most; it chills one and is an amazing feeling. The drums and the chants, I think it awakens something inside ones self that is at rest and assists with performing rituals.
i agree with you... the vibrations, exactly
are the vibrations for just here or go up too?
as above so below and vica versa
Certain beats per second (biaural beats) are know to make the brain start producing theta rythms. Theta rythms have proven to help produce atltered states of consiousness (tance states) nessicary for spiritual work.
My own thoughts on the whole drumming thing ,is that they are not used not to create energy, but to help create the frequency that would allow energies already there, to be manipulated. And to help all involved tune into that frequency.
How about" music calms the savage beast",so it calms our minds/body to hear & send thoughts out better.
I'm not sure what the reason is for the drums, but when my mother married my x-step father who was one of the worst men you will ever meet, she heard drums all day whenever he was around and they got more persistant as time went on.
the drums make a soothing energy which helps a witch meditate better so the spell is all that is on her or his mind.
I BELEIVE DRUMS ARE A FORM OF ENERGY AND COULD BE A FOCAL POINT
I think it's a way for them to connect with one another and concentrate more.
well i am not a witch, but my aunt & i and a group of our friends have drum circles every month on the full moon in order to connect with our mother earth & grand mother moon... it is also a way of giving thanks and showing appreciation for the life we have, and of that around us...
so like above stated it is mostly about connection to the earth (at least it is for us)
