Was accepted by a Dr.Ross, who claims he can make a tone come from a speaker from eyebeams..What do you think about this?

i think it is a trick. sort of like what david cooperfield does.
Could be, but I don't think it is a trick. I think he believes it, and is evidently prepared to prove it.

Copperfield*
Ross tries to debunk so called mystics and such...no one has ever accepted his challenge.Ever Illusionist and magician use slight of hand and trickery to fool people into believing what they do is real.Every "trick" is set up to seem "REAL" as possible.
This guy Ross, intends to use it in the medical field..dont think Copperfield or any other illusionist has ever attempted that either.
What I have read of him so far,as far as his research..he could have a shot.
......eyebeams...?
I'm sorry but that kind of strikes me as funny at first, because all I can see is "I'm going to make sounds with my EYEBEAMS!"
It seems silly.
Who knows though. Maybe it's possible...I think it could be, though I don't think it's...heh...eyebeams. I think it's like telekinesis, or something similar- using the power of your mind. Not eyes.
I'm in agreement with epic one this one sorry, I'm a firm believer of paranormal powers in humans but laserbeams from the eyes.............I don't think so, perhaps using the power of his mind e.g. telekenis (sorry i can't spell), but who knows. Time will tell.
i also agree with the views of the two ladies above me, sounds too fishy and totally impossible. unless the man gauged out his eyeballs and installed robot ones, sounds farfetched.
What intrigues me is that he does not have to explain how it works only that it does. But all in all it could be possible I suppose as some things we all never thought possible are. And we are all on the "Dark Network" site are we not? I like to keep an open mind....
He found a physical anomaly, one that he could manipulate through interpitation to bolster some unaccredited metaphysical claim. I bet he stands to make a bank from books, even if he doesn't met the challenge. The challange was set up to draw people like this out. Hopeful he will not take to many people before they figure out how he rigs what he claims to do.
It will also be an intresting thing to watch, how and what he needs to provide himself, I think Franks Box Drew out of the challenge. They wanted the publicity, of accepting the challenge.. Marget was the first person to not only lose the challenge (cheating) but was also exposed as a performer.
I look forward to the result of the test, and wonder if his new book will be published before of after he attempts it.
To me it is no different then a group of people trying to raise a trumpet and have voices come thru it.
Im with you Sinora,I just want to see what the guy has in his pocket...or in this case, his eyes. And if he is atually able to do this, let alone measure and document it,then what a good step it would be.Btw,he doesnt claim it is parnormal, but in fact science.Just so happens it falls into the catagory.
And Sybermonk,You're right,it is pretty funny that those who would claim to be Vampires and such would scoff at something like this.Personally,I hope the guy does it.
I think the title is a bit misleading--after viewing the video, it seems there's a little more to this than, pardon the expression,......"meets the eye". Of course, many other inventions of the past have been met with the same skepticism.
To me it's a possibility--people who have paralyzed and/or have missing limbs, replaced by robotic ones, are able to move them; electrodes implanted in the brain neural signals generated when concentrating.
Dr. Ross is not doing this on his own, but with the help of equipment. When I visited his page I see that he's done a bit of research in the field of the human brain; I can't see him ruining his reputation over lying about his findings. Hopefullym it it is true, he will put this to good use, in the medical field, as he stated.
i am very glad that such a offer exists. if you have extraordinary gifts, then you have a chance of being gifted the million dollar prize for being able to prove it under observation. its brilliant
A speaker reacts to electromagnetic waves and electricity and we know there are electrical impulses in the brain and body. Maybe he has found a way to broadcast this electrical energy. He may envision it coming from his eyes, but in reality it may be coming from his brain and or body. It didn't say whether or not the speaker would be connected to an amplifier. A speaker connected to a powered amplifier with no signal applied can pick up A.M. radio waves under the right conditions. So a powered speaker could very easily react to a signal generated by someone. I would really be impressed if he could do it to a non-powered speaker
So if he is claiming this to be scientific, then he should just publish it like other scientist do.. and open it to study from fellow scientist. Providing all current studies, so that the set-up can be tested.
I'm not surprised people don't like coming forward. Even if there are true psychics and whatnot out there people would find some way to make what they do look like a load of bull-hockey.
At the same time the challenge thins out those that are out right bull hockey. I mean if there was someone claiming to be gifted with a observable psi ability, losing clients to some hack.. they could refer them to the challenge.
None taken on my end..Im not saying either way,if the guy has it or not.Im hoping for an unpowered speaker too.Im with Wolfie on this as far as electromagnetics,so of course I am very interested. As far as the "supernatural" being explained by science..yeh,thats pretty much it, and I happen to agree.Because in my opinion,it is one in the same.
LMFAO....wow it reminds me of x-ray vision theories. I got a big mental picture of some suit in x-ray glasses. LMFAO
I know how you feel.I laughed MAO too.More the way he put ,it as opposed to what he is trying to say tho, cause I can see what he is getting at.
It will be interesting to see who will be laughing on their way to the bank.
Even with breakthroughs in irisology I remain a skeptic.
I think the point 'dabbler' made is so true, it doesn't need to succeed the guy will become rich from books etc.
Very true LB,and it is a tough one to digest. But hey,if the dude has figured out a way to document and record something like this,Im all for it.
And if he makes $$$ on books or whatever,so be it.I believe he is serious and isnt using this as a ploy.
I think he does genuinly belive it, but like most things, proving it is quite another story.
There are even things that can be proved mathematically or scientifically on paper but are impossibe to prove as an experiment.
Good point dabbler. It definitely would weed them out. However I think to do so effectively it would somehow need be more public.
I am all for scientific advances but this one I don't buy. I have read the article and there are too many unanswered questions regarding this "eyebeam".
I believe that you can prject energy balls - perhaps that is what he is referrring to as eyebeams - but I certainly do not need special eyewear to do so. I think this is bogus and it will be as impossible to prove as it is to deny.
I scanned through the responses rather quickly and perhaps I missed it but did anyone think it odd that he clipped leads to his ear lobes? That's what he was applying some kind of cream or gel to and he spent quite a bit of time doing it. So it would seem that this is either part of the whole "trick" and I do think it's a trick, or it's to divert attention away from something else he's doing.
In fact, it would be interesting to look at the container that ointment was in and see if it has a label. I'd not be at all surprised to find out that it's very much like the cream they use on EKG electrodes to enhance conductivity between the skin and the electrode. And if he's doing this through "eyebeams", why is he worried about electrical conductivity between a pair of leads and his ear lobes?
So let's think about what the electrodes on an EKG actually do. They pick up slight electrical signals in the skin which are initiated by contractions of the heart. So it's a way to read muscle activity through the skin. When I ride my bike I wear a heart rate monitor that works on exactly the same principle. There is a strap worn around the chest and it holds a plastic piece with contacts just under the pectoral muscles. It tends to work a bit better once a bit of perspiration has built up as this enhances the electrical contact between the skin and the device.
So it stands to reason that what he's actually doing is picking up some kind of electrical signal in his ear lobes which is generated through muscle contractions. The leads from the goggles are plugged into the same lead with the two from his earlobes which connects with the computer. So perhaps all he's doing is tightening a muscle near the mastoid process or in the upper neck which is covered by his hair.
If not then it makes sense to try to think this out from the point of his claims. He's claiming the eyes emit some sort of energy ray. Okay. So if we remember that humans are a product of evolution, how is it that we've maintained this ability across untold hundreds of thousands of years without ever realizing the ability was there or that it could provide any kind of survival advantage? What he's claiming would basically suggest that all of the confirmed evidence for evolution is incorrect.
Let's take it a step farther. The eye isn't a great mystery. We have a pretty good idea how they work. A human eye is roughly a spheroid. It has a hole in the front called a "pupil", an iris which acts much like the aperture in a camera, a lens (transparent muscle), for focusing at various distances, a focal plane coated with receptor cells (retina), and a "cord" called the optic nerve to transmit the signals generated by photons striking the receptor cells, to the visual cortex of the brain where they're interpreted.
Notice what's missing? There's nothing in the eye which shows any mechanism for generating any kind of energy beam whatsoever.
So we have the claim that a beam is being generated without any mechanism with which to generate a beam, a proclaimed ability which defies the laws of evolution, and two leads clamped to the ear-lobes which could, all on their own, explain exactly what is actually happening. And yet he made no mention that I heard about the leads on his earlobes. If you can monitor someone's pulse with a lead clamped on the end of a finger (as is customary for people admitted to hospitals), then there is little reason to believe one can't generate a weak electrical signal which can be picked up in the ear lobes.
I'm calling this one an obvious and rather pathetic fraud.
"Eyebeams"?
Wow!
Haha! I knew if you saw this Beast, youd be right on it.Yes,I still havent figured this one,and you know ,I havent heard anything more about it .
I think its pretty funny though.
Xray vision anyone?
The first link doesn't seem to be working. Regardless, I don't think he's actually doing anything but a slight of hand. After all he is a psychiatrist, he'd know how to trick people rather well.
Using physics to create the appearance of supernatural things is not new, and will never be done away with.
A popular scientist back in the day.. link to follow, used physics to show people how apparitions can be made, lab entertainers, worked with illusionist, recreating older Fakir Tricks, and Parlor Games into astonishing Illusions.
