Do you think, should Vampyres exist, that they could be affected by disease the same way humans are? Especially rare diseases like cholera, malaria, or heck...the West Nile virus? Would they be affected by diabetes the same way humans are?
I'd really like to hear people's opinions on this. :-)
i dont think so. they might carrie them but not be affected by it
I don't think so. Vampires are said to be undead. Therefore, like with a zombie, their blood would be coagulated or non existant. That's why, I believe, they need to feed off blood to survive.
Well, there was a forum post about Vampires really being undiagnosed diabetics (or something along those lines). It's interesting to see where some of these theories go.
I would have to agree with Distortion. If vampires are supposed to be undead, then diseases that affect humans should have no effect on vampires.
For blood to be the only thing a vampire needs to survive its obvious that their systems work differently if at all, so I have to say no they do not affect them.
Of course disease affects them..they are human after all.
If real vampires did exist the answer would be no. But people u think they are vampires would be affected by bloodborne illnesses
No way, they would be immune to all human defects as well
well i know they can catch them blood disease's are about the only type they can cath tho it whont kiss them it will affect they're health and make them ill because a vampire is not fully undead like a zombie they got a heart that beats so they can get affected but not fately*
The vampire's sense of smell lets them know if a human is ill or unclean. This would allow them not to drink impure blood.
However, if the vampire had to resort to drinking tainted blood, I think that due to the vampire's rapid regeration and healing abilities, he/she is immune to any diseases.
The vampires of myth and legend are supposed to be immune to disease since they are the walking dead, as are most fictional vampires. Those are the types I believe you were referring to in the question. Living vampires however are human and therefore subject to all human diseases.
Ya that's right! I take my brother for exemple...never vaccined sice he was born and he's the one in the family who have the best health.
i think that some would be the same but with the immortal thing any faital disease would at least not kill them
I don't believe vampires can be affected by the same diseases that affect humans. That is, if you're speaking of the vampires of fiction, if so, they're already dead...or undead I guess. They're blood isn't moving through their body, and their hearts are no longer beating, so it's hard to believe that something like a disease could kill a vampire. I think they could be able to carry a certain disease, afterall they do feed from the blood of humans, but I don't think the disease could harm them...they could spread it to other people. Besides, if a disease could harm a vampire, they do heal fast like psivampire mentioned, and I doubt it could be fatal.
Well if they were to exist, I don't think they would succomb to disease. They heal when shot, etc. in the movies. hahaha.....
There are diseases out there that give off symptoms of vampirism but could there be a real disease I do not think so.
I don't think they would be affected by human disease, they might carrie them and spread them.
radu - You'd be speaking of diseases like porphyria, correct?
gee how many times has this been asked ....
ok here it is...
if a real DEAD corpse were to come to life as a vampire no they would not be affected. Your dead, ur organs died whats there to affect?
as for those of us who areliving vamps, yes we are all suseptible.
lol If vampires are human, then they would be defined as only human. The soul itself can be many things, so what one wishes to define themselves is up to them.
Now onto the human diseases....they would be able to sense such things and avoid them. Much like a dog can sense when a human has cancer, and yes that's been proven as well.
If they qare taking peoples blood then they could catch what diseases are in the blood
Perhaps they simply have a superiour immune system, so they could carry a disease without suffering from the effects??
I tend to agree with everyone,Vampires are said to be dead and shouldn't have an immune system to be affected by desaise
well first of all if your talking like about Vamps in the Hollywood sense then .... I feel that they would be immune since they can be 100's of yrs. old and had already lived through all plagues that had wiped out most countries populations.... so a very good Immune System .. LOL better than humans.
as to like modern day and real people whom share blood letting etc.. they it is possible to get a disease from your donor... so just my opinion...
thats a good question
if we are going by the storys then no , that the blood rejuvents when they feed
if we go like they are humans then yes , since there is no magic envolved
Many if not all diseases require blood to move around in the body. If blood didn't flow they'd stay in one place. Diseases happening on something that already had died would be pointless and therefore non-existant.
I do not think they could carry disease at all. other then vampirism but that isn't a disease.
I don't believe that a vampire could be affected by human diseases...they may be carriers through the blood...but even that is questionable. Vampires tend to rejuvenate rather quickly
Vampyres are undead I dont think disease would affect them
The vessel they inhabit, I imagine could have plenty of foul bacteria and "crud" but would this effect the inhabiting entity (ghost) I think not, though if a vampire goes without blood to possibly preserve the vessel, then they may have a hard time maintaining that vessel, flesh eating viruses, and aggravated injuries.. (fire) can also have this possible effect on the ghost in a vessel vampire scenario.
if vampire are undead and then it might effect them. it depends on the disease though
