So we know that things have opposites for example,
Men, Woman
Light, Dark
Life, Death
In most cases you will find an opposite, my point being if we take one of these out of the equation what would happen.
you cant have light without dark and life without death. So what would happen?
unbalance of this world, many reley on the other to exist, and many ways destruction would fall into place, no light means no food cold tempurateres.. no women life would eventually run out. so evrything must have abalance to sustane life.
this is what i thought! destruction, death.
If you take out a small thing then that would ruin another thing and in turn create a chain reaction.
yes much like a predator taken out, the insect that kept in balance would over run and ruin a change in balance of folage or even visa versa the predator would die off or move to another species never had that many predotors. before and things would set off a chain reaction that would be felt evry year untill things died off or this planet would die off.
chaos...though usually nature will find a way to re-balance itself.
if we could not have any of these balances in life we would not exisit
I believe that it would cause an unbalance in the world. Everything would just be off and wrong.
Yeah, I don't think it's possible for there to be any form of existance without opposites. It would be the end of everything. Well, it wouldn't be the end, because there never would have been a start if there was a possibility for opposites to cease to exist.
But then, I guess nothing is something, so there is no way for there to be nothing...
...And now my head hurts. >.>
the world with out balance would just be non exsisting
everything needs to have balance as the wonderful points have already been add. Great examples by the way.
Taking away an opposite of another would be like taking away a tiny peice of a food web. It would be like taking away grass, insects eat the grass, larger insects eat smaller insects, carnavors eat the larger insects, larger carnavors eat the smaller carnavors.
If you take the grass out everything else will die out.
Taking light away from the world, will only create darkness, decreace the food population, and eventually kill us all.
These are all good points, but say you take out something small like a fly, just a small simple fly would that cause an unbalance in life?
In a way yes, but in a way no! because spiders eat the flies, but they also eat ants, and other small bugs. Would Nature take over and Evolve the spider to get bigger so it would be able to live on and eat bigger bugs, or would it die out? What would happen if nature stepped in? would chaos bring about a new breed or bigger animals?
Depends if the spider had a chance to evolve into something bigger i would imagine or would it die off before it could evolve. There's a very fine line between living and dying i think.
As for the question what would happen if there were no balance at all. Chaos, absolute chaos, after all, even the sea needs the moon to produce the tides, and if there were no tides, then there would be no life in the sea and that's ultimatley were all life on the planet started.
i am pretty sure the world would
not exist it would come to a end every thing would die.
For the first part of your question, I think that cadrewolf
says it all in his post.
For the second part of the later question. I think it would really depend on whether or not nature would let the spider evolve in to something else or let it die out. The fly not being around would hender several things but it would also help several things as well. There are plenty of other insects for the spider to live on so to speak, like you stated.
Lol, like in the other forum... The apocolypse!!! For some reason this questions reminded me about how things never really touch. Because if 2 atoms did really come in contact there would creat a crazy explosion taking out the entire world, or even solar system and creat a giant black hole.
Anomolies in personality disorders happen and you end up with twisted individuals like Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden, Jeffery Daumer, Wayne Gacy.
I do think evelution would evolve to try and balance what may be missing, would this include bigger predators, yes maybe, for nature seems in some ways to adapt, yet now lets think of this spiders or bees bigger, and now we have chaos for now would they hunt birds or humans. we watch hollywood alot and see gentic mutantions of species and would this come into play, soon things shall be extinct and maybe life will form a new generation. dinasouars have left and new breeds where formed. what may come next.
I found an article on the Seven Summum Principles that I thought would be an interesting read regarding this topic:
IV. The Principle of Opposition
"Everything is dual; everything has an opposing point; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes bond; all truths are but partial truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." -- Summum
It explains that in everything there are two opposing points or opposite aspects (complementarity), and that opposites are really only the two extremes of the same event, with many varying degrees between them.
Reference and further reading:
Seven Summum Principles
If only one would exist to the extreme, we would not be able to recognize our selves as what we really are. The both sides of the duality are here to be learned so the existence can be in balance, out of which we as living spiritual beings learn, and elevate to higher levels of thought, by developing a higher understanding of the function of the universe in which we live.
In only one, the unrecognizable chaos would rule, braking our natural development of our souls in to higher being in this universe.
All together, we learn out of the difference which the concept of duality has to offer, and with out that concept, there is no progress in our beings.
the example of taking out a fly would actually cause more imbalance. the fly although seemingly insignificant would cause issues with the food chain, from the break down of the dead (animals) to how other animals feed, right?
just as any balance the food chain starts small and works its way up the ladder.
Everything has a purpose in life. Even an insignificant fly. elemintating this simple species can be the end of all life as we know it.
Hum...although that is an interesting thought, Will nature try and ballance out the missing link?
Who knows, nature is unpretictable.
See i think nature would, as it is and has been stated life does find a way, opposites are one and all, love is hate and hate is love without one we wouldnt know the other, live has to have death to give birth, and so on.
If you take away the opposite of each there is no telling what would happen to the world.
If you took away death people might be able to live forever but i would hate to see what happened when you took away some of other opposites people could come up with.
There most definitely would be major problems. But, thankfully, this cannot happen.
Balance. An example would be the large bird eats first, then the small. For the lge is sloppy & leaves small crumbs, that would otherwise be to big for a little beak. Thus the big & little work together.
i dont think it's possible to have one without the other
Chaos...which at some point, would evolve into something else, like a whole new set of balances.
if u were to take any one thing out of a equation than it would cause the other to disappear... or cause the end of existance because there must be a balance ...
hense why we have laws, rules and so forth
If we do not need these opposites to exist, and if one side of the equation were able to be removed, then the entire creation would be completely chaotic.
ok... besides all the obvious opposites... lets compare something unimportant for survival... like happy and sad and love and hate... if there wasnt any hate in the world... i would be so inlove with my boyfriend right now... you know that feeling that you get when your truely inlove... without sadness... we wouldnt know happy... and god do i love true happiness... when nothing matters in the world but whats happening just then... at that moment.... sure we can live without some of the opposites... but we cant live the way we do without some of them...
i belive without light there could be no dark, so I thought the universe would just collapse, without ying and yang.
total chaos could bring about a new set of balances yes, within time and when the world has sorted the problem out it can be perfect again!
'within chaos can come harmony'
theres one big cycle here, the dinos being wiped out, the meteor was the imbalance to the world, kill all but a handful, the ice age killed off some of the early man and plants, the ice age being the imbalance, we are here due to these. but yet we are here after the world has sorted its self out!
I thought oppositions where there to help balance things. No day no night no hot no cold imagine if we had only hot weather no cold etc I think we all need a healthy balance of both ends of the scale.
These are all good points!
But, what about love and hate?
Could we not have one without the other?

We can't have one without the other.. Without women there are no men to be born but without men, there can be no seed to make a child. Without light, most plants that we need will not grow but without dark nothing can function right..... everything has to have a balance or it can't exist.....
to me it is like knocking your equalibriam off it would make you confused and disoriented.
there are good points here, life does do as it pleases, i think it would sort out the imbalance with chaos and destruction, as it come to creation of a new type.
yes with a death comes new life so it can happen with one type of animal. so we have balance.
Without death, life would multipy so quickly, no food, no space, total chaos...too much death and not enough life throws balance off and takes a very long time to recover.. same vice versa.
Always need to keep the scales balanced for it all to run "smoothly" ... as smooth as it can, that is. Man has a tendency to upset the balance.
without balance then there would be chaos, yet in time the balance would return because we as a species would not allow our race to end for any reason. Grant it we may end up killing people for crimes and stuff to help put things back in balance, because we need the balance. SO I do not see where it would cause total destruction to the human race at all.
We would still have free will and our minds to figure out how to regain the balance even if we were to live in total darkness forever or total light forever. we as a species would regain what we had lost and balance it out to fit our new way of life,Just as we have evovled from the prehistoric days and ice age. There is always hope and a way to balance things in this world.
I know myself I would not just give up and die because there was no more sunlight or no more night... Come'on folks really do you have that little faith in the human race that we could not survive and find a Balance again in another way?
Maybe I am just Optimistitic yet I would rather be than to think that without balance at some point I was gonna die or be destroyed. just an opinion is all.
Granted that life would live on without death, but in this day and age with diseases and warfare we would end up killing anyway. its a way of life and a fact.
I cant see why there has to be an oposite to everything good.
I cant see the need for bad things in the world. Sure there would be less drama but who wouldnt like to be happy all the time? :)
*smiles a blond smile
true, but the question is how would we know something is good or what the value of good is if there was no bad?
I know what you mean.
like how can you tell light from dark if you dont know how dark look?
Tricky. I will have to think about that.
Ade that is a good point is scares me. cloning is a damn right bad idea, the person may look the same but 'it' as it is a 'it' would not act or sound the same, so in effect its 'playing God'
No balance would just make life harder to live.We wouldnt exist for long. But i think someday an imbalance willl occur and i hope im not around when it does.
i believe that if you took just te simplest thing out of the equation then everything else would fall apart. there'd be nothing holding it togeather anymore.
well there'd be no boundries to anything. everything might just mix in togeather and that itself would suck for everyone
What a frightening thought but a good question. I think that we would evolve along with the rest of the planet.
not just that but other planets might not be the same. our universe could cese to exsist
Good point Petal, but would we have time, the imbalance could be a quick process like what killed the Dino's.
The imbalance there being the meteor, the big earth tremor and massive tidal waves and dust storms that traveled throughout the world. The way the 'natural balance' kicked in was removing the amount of dust that clouded out the sun so that plants could grow! and i dont think it was a fast process.
well from the looks of it, that's gonna happen again very soon. maybe not the way the dino's died out but from the sun expanding. the universe is growing and the sun is getting closer to the earth. i would like to see it happen though. be there when a giaint ball of fire just takes us away. ....not to be morbid or anything but i'd like to go that way.
Yeah, but they have said that in the near future that there is a meteor with our name on it, but you are also right i would like to see the end of the world to see how it goes out.
Indeed there must be a reason else there would be no point in us being here but destruction
that has just gave me a new thought, what is the balnace to US? i can think of one, yeah there are MEN and WOMEN, but humans as a collective for both sexes?
So WE are the imbalance!
BTW
I dont think cloning is dangerous. The body will still be born as a natural body therefore given an uniqe soul
I think the whole universe would become unstable and out of balance. It would signal the end of many things if something was taken out of the equation.
This balance is vital and keeps the universe moving and growing. Without it I believe everything would cease to exist.
personaly i think complete chaos would happen, and everything around us would be much much different
Balance is what makes life contiual. If there wasnt a balance life would die off
Perhaps I have misunderstood the opening post. But it seems to me that the examples given are not opposites. Men and women are not opposites (though any logical debate between the two might suggest me to be wrong). We're all human beings, apes, primates, mammals and animals. I'm not sure how that makes us opposites.
Dark is simply the absence of photons or the absence of a means by which to detect those photons. Electricity is the presence of an imbalance of electrical charge. Does that mean that an electrical charge is the opposite of an electrically neutral charge?
Life and death are somewhat more difficult to quantify but I think it's safe to say that without life, there can be no concept of death. It's simply two states of organic matter.
The only balance of which I'm aware would be the balance of matter/energy within the universe. And what might happen if that balance were to be lost, I can't begin to answer. I would suppose that at minute levels, probably nothing greatly noticeable.
well it would be unbalanced. For example if we took away dark so do i somehow think we would be blinded. Eash factor need the opposite to work proper, othervise it simply dont work.
Besides if we need it, it would be boring as hell. No hot, no cold. no salty no sweet. yuk what a world it would be.
It would be boring, but i still think the world would sort itself out in time. as it has done though time.
but would humans exist if something were to be thrown off?
i think that if the balance were to be off that our whole planet would fall apart, with out light no food no warmth, not many plants would surfive and that means less oxgen after awile, no women and or men, then the human race would seace to exist, I beleive we need a balance to survive!
sorry for the spelling errors lol
Thats true.
And to the question, would humans exsist?
I think they would, as nature will find a way, it is possibles to live without one or the other although it would be very hard. And slow going.
do you think something like that could ever happen though? i mean something that would throw the earth or maybe other planets around us off?
it's possible, say if the orbit on the sun went out of control and it fell and we cant get any of the light or warmth of it, i think it could happen
It is possible, as anything is, its not a matter of if its a matter of when, i think, Though time there has been a downfall of things, one species dies another one is created. if this chain stops then that could be the downfall
that would suck. i have heard that the sun is expanding. getting closer to the earth..that can't be good. i wonder how many more years till the earth is just a ball of dirt
hey that makes since, like if the human race were to die then another would talke our place?
well if that cycle is broken then everything would pretty much stop wouldn't it?
Yes it would it has happened before, with the Dino's. and then a few hundred or million year we came along, well the primitive man anyway.
As for the sun expanding, it is, but it would be in our life time, i think what is going to get us first is global warming, the ice caps are melting, and this is displacing the salt in the sea's, which in turn could disrupt the currents that keep us warm. and then the raising of the sea levels most of us will be under water, before the sun reaches us.
Well the classic words of, 'The day after tomorrow' not in our life time again, but then again it is possible. Im sure you have noticed the change in weather over the last 10 or so years, well i have in the uk. Our weather is becoming more unpredictable, we have spells of rain, then out of the blue the sun can be something close to 30 degrees C, and then rain again.
no i've noticed it here too. the weather is crazy. it reaches the hundreds and we go a few weeks without rain then out of no where we're being hit with a hurricane.
i think the earth's weather is going through a huge wrap
It is! and to be fair its quite scary, as i dont know whats going to happen next, in the uk we dont get hurricanes but we have had winds up to the point of them.
i've had a few ideas for suriving stuff like this just in case mans last days were at hand. i think we need to build undergound homes...well more like cities.
