The Rave Help Desk
Here I thought to post a thread where one may seek help for problems they are having or ask legitimate questions regarding the site…may keep from an abundance of e-mails being sent to the creator as others may well be able to help. However forgive my ignorance if by chance there is somewhere for such already and please if so may someone give myself direction.
I figure to keep this thread at a minimum if one knows of an answer please perhaps only message that same said person, thus will be a user-friendliness way to keep this thread to a questions only thread, and answers will be found in your mailbox by those whom maybe able to help.
Q: Are other users having difficulty with the sites pages loading properly?
(I tend to have pages clear as done however the page is blank and/or it suffers from severe lag at loading, is this a computer problem I am experiencing or only the site itself?)
Q: When a thread is posted and then closed why is the thread not auto deleted to save forum space?
Q: How does one post graphics within their profile i.e. photographs, decorative banners etc.?
Threads are not deleted so that people can look back over them for reference or just for fun.
Also if you look, Requiem posted a thread in the personals that links to Elder Dan's Journal where he in detail gives guidance on the "How To's" of HTML'ing...
as for the loads of the pages...that's a combanation of the server and y'r computer...many things can effect how a page loads or how quickly it loads...
many of the users that have difficulty with the pages loading are on dial up, some things take up time and so the website is unable to open correctly..like dami said, it is a cobination of your computer's perfomance as well...to reload, you refresh by either going to the toolbar of your internet browser or by pressing F5 on your keyboard. it should help you out some.
i myself have DSL and sometimes is difficult...for the pages to load completely...im sure it happens to everyone.
tsk tsk.. you're not supposed to respond on the thread..shame on all of you. lol *wink*
and shame on me too. :o]
actually, sometimes i think we all have trouble loading pages simultaneously. It might be a problem with the server being busy .
As far as the RIPed threads, they stay on the forum so that others may not repeat the same topic *shrug* atleast i think so.
yeah it does depend on your computer... the difference between my parents computer and the ones at university for public use is astonishing, it takes twice as long at uni!
If anyone does nees any assistance with their profile (as Requiem excellently pointed out) go on ElderD's journal and have a gander at HTML For Whelps. Im having a go myself, but Im useless!
Back on topic...ahem...
I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Since the latest update to Firefox, I keep getting a prompt to install a missing Real Time Player plug in. I've installed this thing. I still get the prompt. Any ideas?
yeah i use mozilla firefox too...very good browser, and i keep getting the same alert thing. its kind of annoying....if u know what to do can u post it here ?
thanks =)
ok jason, i think i found the problem..what i did is i reinstalled mozilla, that worked for me but then i red the FAQ and i think it was the extensions (quitime, flash, etc) that were causing these problems...
What is an extension?
Extensions are enhancements to the browsing experience in Firefox. They can be thought of as small programs (or add-ons) that add new functionality to Firefox.
The great thing about extensions is that they allow Firefox to stay small and unbloated. Anyone who require more features can download the appropriate extension.
Where can I find extensions?
Take a look at the various extensions at addons.mozilla.org.
How do I uninstall Extensions?
Select Tools > Extensions, select the extension you want to remove and click the Uninstall button.
Thanks for the help! This thread pays for itself in less than 20 posts!
Q: Are other users having difficulty with the sites pages loading properly?
A: This has only been happening in the Forum, Profiles, Vampire Database, and Journals section (as reported by members to me). It should no longer happen in the Forum section (due to the recent update) and it should soon be eliminated from the other sections as well.
This is usually caused by a timeout issue by the viewing member's ISP. If a page takes too long to load, it simply says 'Done' when it's not.
Q: When a thread is posted and then closed why is the thread not auto deleted to save forum space?
A: Some threads are deleted. You'll usually not notice because you don't see them again. Others are closed. They are left for archival purposes. Space is not a concern at VR. We have our own server.
Q: How does one post graphics within their profile i.e. photographs, decorative banners etc.?
A: Already answered sufficiently.
Q: I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Since the latest update to Firefox, I keep getting a prompt to install a missing Real Time Player plug in. I've installed this thing. I still get the prompt. Any ideas?
A: Already answered, but I can guess the reason for the prompt was the 'You have new messages waiting' wav file that plays when you have new messages waiting. It could also be from the 'Leave Us Alone' video embedded on the main page, but this prompt would only occur when loading the main page.
A friend of mine has just joines uses the M. firefox browser, but can't edit her profile, nothing hassppens, just spent the last hour trying everything.. any had this problem before beats me..
basically, goes to edit profile, does the editing, presses submit, then nothing, all that she has managed to change (edit) is her email address.. and thats it! Her SN is Amilamia... please help... if i bang my head on this desk anymore, its gonna break...
The slow loading was bothering me also.. At my pc it's not just a few things, it's everything.. I *think* it has something to do with the databaseserver..
Can hardly be my pc, it's fast :P And well, my internet connection is also fast (8 mbit) so shouldn't be a problem. Maybe it's because i'm in europe.. But other sites do load quick.. Hm, maybe you'll need a european mirror.. Lol :P
Oh also.. Yesterday I was Shadow, 80% complete. I press Update, and i'm Mosquito @ 90% ? Kinda.. Weird...
It happens. I have bobbled back and forth between levels. Repeatedly. lol
Click here for an explanation of why this may happen.
Dhampir,
Yesterday I was working on the site most of the day. I warned that there would be certain problems.
We have many users who use Firefox as a browser. If the problem is still happening, check the cookies settings.
Thank you Cancer. I was aware of the downage time and such, due to recieving your kind warnings about the site being down. It is baffling myself why this problem is happening with her account.. Her SN does begin with the letter A, i recall some problems in the past.. I'm just thinking of all angles here.. And i'd just like to thank you for the site search.. it has come up trumps with finding an answer to this problem.. i typed in Mozilla Firefox in the site search box, and bingo found this thread... Excellent work Master.
Well, the A thing was a one-time event.. There was a cascading account deletion and I managed to stop it before it got past the A's.
I 2 have a long load time but when you have x number of people on here you going to have that. I use firefox and its done pretty well till now. I just looked at someones profile and they had some type of music and firefox had a problem playing using realpayer they firefox shut down on me. I have now lost all my book marks and any setting I had set. I love computers...lol
I can't vouch for firefox. I know it's semi-popular... But I wouldn't call it stable software. You're better off using IE. It crashes the least of all the browsers.
Of course the anti-microsoft crowd doesn't want to hear that.
I'll have to agree with you there Cancer... i suggest using IE myself... Forget Nutscrape, Firefox, etc... they just aren't up to par for now...
I half to agree with cancer as well i have tried a few othere but keep comming back to old faithfull
I have Mozilla Firefox and have only had one major problem (last week) with VR. MOst of the time it works great. It has worked fine for me ever since I downloaded it last summer without any major problems.
