Okay I have been reading all these posts now and looking into things and seeing what people have been writing that in my readings have seen to be totally false....

Okay yes Dec.21,2012 is considered to be an end to the 5th and final empire of man....

the LHC (Large Haldron Collider) in THEORY could create a blackhole...but what I read said if that was the case they would be very small and of no real threat and could basically pass through the earth undetected or noticed....

The Mayan calendar DOES NOT END....it is mearly working simular to a car odometer it has achieved it's limit and flips back to zeros....

what people should be looking at in (my opinion only) isn't the possible LHC results coming on 2012...or the calendar ending in 2012.....It is the Great Galactic Alignment that will take place Dec. 21, 2012 at 11:11am GMT.......

This is the scenario that frightens me all the planets lining up gravity fields causing havock..the sun passing through the dark rift in the milky way all at the same time......

This is the end of a planetary cycle the last of 5 in a galactic year (around 26,000+ yrs)
something is gonna happen I think but it is not gonna be man made...it is gonna be an uncontrollable change in our galaxy....

There's enough mathematical evidence to ascertain that the LHC is harmless. If it does produce a black hole, it will be so infinitesimal and simply collapse unto itself.

As far as the Mayan calendar, more speculation based on panic and failure to research.

Think of it this way. The earth has been here for quite a long time, so why would an inanimate object unable to tell what year it was, conform to a man made calendar?

Schools of Belief of necessity vary, according to the circumstances when originally arrived at, plus the prevailing Beliefs/Ideas of the Host Culture, prophesies of 'Independent kind' varying, also, and the sad fact is, Humankind will not actually know, until it actually occurs...;)

Very true, we would basically not even get out a "what the? before we were particles.

Right now, we're spinning at roughly 900mph. If it suddenly stops, again, particles.

Now THAT is a very pertinent point, as I remember a friend once theorising that, if astrology is so 'exact', what of the planets in the solar system which are only now being discovered, what bearing could this have on astrology itself, so therefore, in matters of the 'End Of The World', before we existed, was there a date, then? it hardly seems likely... Sadly, could it be a case of 'when it happens it happens'...?

Very true. And there are so many things happening in our favor, just out of luck. For example, Jupiter's gravitational pull helps deflect asteroids from coming at us.

My point is, all it takes is one simple thing to change even outside of the earth and we'd be toast.

i would like to know more about any theories of what happens if all planets align.....

I was not agreeing with the blackhole theories or that the Galaxies bend to accomidate mans calendar......in actuality it was their calendar that was following the heavenly bodies....

I want to know more about what people think of the GREAT GALACTIC ALIGNMENT.....which takes place on the 2012 date

I don't believe anything will happen when they align. Life always finds away even if something did happen.

What might happen is we would kill ourselves off with global panic, I see that more of a possibility than something actually happening.

Well, as the resident nay sayer, Doomsday is relative. It happens to some people everyday. Little villages, small countries, etc. So, in terms of the grand scheme of the world -- I see it as a piece by piece demolition. Not one dramatic collapse all at once.

People will speculate...make money writing books of it. Some say it will become a Spiritual age. Some say the end of the world. I say who says I cannot be hit by a bus in the next 10 minutes. We can only wait & see. The year 2000 when everything that was suppose to happen did'nt now makes me skeptical of this.

you are stating this not as a question, but as a statement, not asking how people understand it, no link either. The lack of reference in your question shows that there is a lack understanding. Yet the sensational empasis is noteable, a common thing with Irrationally influenced hysteria.. how do you know you are part of a conspiacy theory? When you are at your second . world ending retreat. Ask your self, what motive do those that write those flashy articles have? How many times have they forecast doom? Bring more supporting reasearch, at least make it entertaining, in a sci-fi way. I read David Brin "Earth" now that is creative. The Earth Abides another good one, Oh and I got one that is pretty crafty as well. So jaded are we that Sci-fi is no longer stimulating.. it is so much easier to make believe, then it is to Create imaginable.

mysticwinds, to your point I agree and would also add, there is something "mystical" about the turn of a millennium to people. I've researched when this happened last and indeed there was widespread panic and doom sayers back then as well.

I find it encouraging to see the difference between the responses in this thread and the responses in other threads which spoke of the supposed danger behind the LHC. It appears that either people really are starting to become more informed, or perhaps those who are less informed are taking pause and starting to listen.

As has been mentioned, the LHC presents no particular danger. The energy of the impacts it will produce are below the energy of impacts which occur naturally in the atmosphere on a daily basis. Were the acceleration of the sub-atomic particles (hadrons), to be sufficient to provide them with a dramatic gain in mass, within their reference frame, the instant this happens, the mass would cause the inversion of the process which provided the mass. The result is that any sub-microscopic black hole would wink out of existence as quickly as it formed.

As for the Mayan Calendar; it's a man-made tool with a finite limit. Think of it like the odometer on your car. It's there to help you track the number of miles the car has traveled. The fact that it will reach its limit at 999,999.9, does not mean that if the car were to travel that far, and then another tenth of a mile, that the car will suddenly explode or vanish into nothingness.

Doomsday predictions have been around for as long as superstitions have existed. And that pretty much means, for as long as man has existed. Every few decades we're inundated with another claim of impending doom. The vast majority of these claims are based in primitive thought processes which should be regarded as holding no merit because they are devoid of logic. The more we exercise the responsibility to debunk such ideas and adhere to objectivity and logic, the more we serve our own needs to advance.

How sad is it that in a time when;

- computers and Internet access are common-place

- probes are traveling to Mars and even beyond our solar system

- science is detecting particles so small they become lost within the volume of an atom

- instant communication is possible via tiny devices carried by most people in developed nations

- the concepts of radio, television, x-rays, facsimile
machines, microwave ovens and LCD displays are seen as mundane and boring...

... we still have people subscribing to primitive superstitions and ancient myths and becoming deeply concerned that they might be true?

Numbers are a man-made tool which can help us construct models which assist us in our attempts to understand nature. Numbers are not nature, they're a tool. Tools all have limitations. If the display on your calculator has room for only 8-digits, it doesn't mean the device will explode if a 9th digit is entered. It won't end the world. It simply means that 8-digits was considered sufficient for the intended purpose and presented a lower cost than would a display with more digits and a processor able to handle larger numbers.

I see it as our duty to separate ourselves from the ancient, primitive processes of looking for mystical patterns rather than observing logic and objectivity. We live in an advanced world and yet, many insist on continuing to hold thought-processes consistent with those of the Dark Ages and earlier. There is a price to be paid. The more people who subscribe to such irrationality, the more it affects man as a whole and retards our development. Stagnation is nothing of which to be proud. We can help ourselves to advance or we can digress. Advancement requires effort and the willingness to release failed ideas. Digression requires lazy adherence to ignorance and the desire to linger in emotionalistic thought.

The quest for the astonishing mystic cataclysmic confirmations , has yet to produce anything but Oohhs, and Awwws.
Are you ready to sell your house? Are you ready to spend that money to join an underground Bunker, to survive the Pending Doom? Of course you probly answered, No I would never do that? But what of those you convince with your pitch? When the come back, after being kicked of the land for trespassing on private property.. how will you face them.. when they say.. "You had me convinced, I so doubted all this before I heard you speak.. I wish I never listened to you."

Im not telling anyone to believe what I stated as fact...just read articles that have said the opposite of what the majority believes...and searching the internet for articles the ones I read are the easiest ones to access that come up first in searches.....

I never cared about the 2000 thing that was just gonna be a big computer glitch if it happened, to me so what I don't own one, maybe the loss of computer data would have helped me...lol

I also am not a religious person and dont really care about the biblical talks of doomsday cuz that story has been read for many many years and each generation thought it was talking about them.

the Mayan calendar ending date marks the end of a galactic cycle 5000+yrs, the last in the cycle of 5....they predict the world would crash into and be consumed by the sun I read.....now that didn't really bother me either until I saw the links to the galactic alignment happening on the same day Dec. 21st, 2012 at 11:11am GMT...
THIS is when it started bothering me....Not because of any certain doomsday article I read but my thoughts are that if every planet were to all line up wont that cause some crazy gravitational problems???

MyrrhkuriTheFallenOne,

I think the key to this is to look at the age of the Earth which is estimated to be 4.6 billion years. Certainly, this isn't the first time such an event has occurred in our solar system and the planet is still here. Of course one might be concerned about a mass extinction event connected to such an alignment but there appears to be no reasonable cause for concern for that either.

While it may sound ominous to think of the combined gravitational force of the planets all lining up, it's important to maintain a sense of perspective. Gravity is a function of mass and all of the planets combined make up less than .135% of the total mass of the solar system. The rest is all in the sun (99.865%). Jupiter and Saturn together make up most of the planetary mass and account for only .125% of the total mass of our solar system. That leaves only .01031% to be divided up between Neptune, Uranus, Venus, Mars, Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, Ganymede, Titan, Callisto, Io, our moon, Europa, Triton and Pluto. Note that this accounts for the 17 largest bodies of mass in the solar system.

Even with all of the planets aligned, you're only talking about .135% of the total mass and therefore, a relatively small quantity of the total gravity. If you consider all of the times that Jupiter and Saturn have aligned with Earth and the fact that those two planets alone account for .125% of the total mass of the solar system (sun excluded), the difference when you add the gravitational attraction of the remaining planets is barely significant.

Sorry,

That last sentence should have read;

"If you consider all of the times that Jupiter and Saturn have aligned with Earth and the fact that those two planets alone account for .125% of the total mass of the solar system (sun included), the difference when you add the gravitational attraction of the remaining planets is barely significant."

The point being that Jupiter and Saturn account for nearly 93% of the total mass (excluding the sun). So we're only talking about adding a mere 7% to what the Earth faces when Jupiter and Saturn align.

I am not going to make assumptions, that's already been done and I'm not falling into hysterics over something that can not be foreseen what I will do is live my life to the best potential I can and if things happen, it's out of my hands anyway!!
