I would say that it totally depends on who you ask and where you get your information from in terms of sources. There are a mixture of opinions on this, maybe read some of the articles in the vampires section and see what you can find there?

Most people when they tink of vampires think creatures that hunt at night and kill the liveing for there blood.We can thank most of the Dracula movies for that.

i find that society has pretty much set the standard for what people think of the vampire...through mass media, books, articles..etc.. I believe each vampire is unique and each contributes their own beauty or horror..i suppose depends on which one you meet.^^v^^

Vampire are creatures of strong feeling and of lust but the movies and book are just now showing this.And most of the world just konws what they have seen in the few vampire movies and books that they have seen are read.

blood sucking corpes is what there most famous for from a historical standpoint.

it's really odd because there are just a lot of points and factors that could/could not be true, and the possiblity of prooving those factors to be correct or incorrect is... well... slim...

So a lot of the theories and rumours could/could not be true. so what the vampire species is most famous for... could end up being complete garbage. sunlight instantly killing is one that is now a bit dodgy these days.

a lot of people are saying that vampires can go about in sunlight, they just find it uncomfortable and are weakened. But in some ways i see this as an excuse for human wannabes to claim to be vampires.

well vampires... the V letter.. i believe that vampires are famous for their fangs..for they ability to drink blood...but for me the most beautiful thing is the mistery... it is a pleasure to be the mistreious thing. Of course i agree that everyone may have their own opinion.. it depends on what side are u looking at the problem... it is the same..of course from my point of view...

I feel that vampires are most famous for the misconceptions that Hollywood portrays. This tends to be an extremely glamourized version of what true vampires really are, and it does carry on into a real life view of what vampires are from the perspective of someone "normal" or even lifestylers. I cannot tell you how many times I've been asked if I can shapeshift or fly, and have superhuman strength....No to all. I know it wouldn't do very good for the person brave enough to write/direct this, but I would like to see something that actually showed vampires as they truly are..Not oversexed, overly vicious, or slithery things that creep through the dark and go mauling people saying "I vant to suck your blawd!" Again, I seriously doubt anyone, anytime soon, will have the balls to do this. Just a thought.

In the movies vampire lifestyle is depicted as exciting, romantic, and glamourus. But in truth I think Vampires are lonely creatures that are misunderstood...

I keep my sanguinary urges under wraps to most ppl. I don't often drink blood but would if it was more widely available! In this way i agree vampires are misunderstood and demonised by the media as a good movie "bad guy" I think i'm a good person I do what I like as long as it hurts no one else. I do feel thr true nature of the vampirous is coming to light in recent years as those who have looked deeper into the subject have no doubt discovered.

There is a sexual side for me but not entirely it's an urge I have more like food and sex go together I wouldn't trivialise it so much as to say it was a fetish

i have read everyones idea's and i want to say thanks to all. The reason i bring the question up is because the media shows vampires as nothing but deadly sexualy attracted creatures. It hurts me to no end to see my friends wanting to be one so badly.


Example they want to be one so they can fly and have a sex appeal. so im asking everyone that is or not a vampire ( the comon vampires are the ones Known to drink from the neck) to please explain what it really like to be a vamp the good and bad.

Vampires will be forever hunted due to this factor. They are seductice, powerwel creations.. Unlike many animals that get hunted for their dominace and beauty to extinction.. The vampire will roam this earth long after the last human has spilt their last drop of exquisite crimson juices...

and i believe Succubi and Incubi would be a sexual fantasy before Vampyres.

Vampires are known strictly for being killers. They were made to be mysterious by the novel DRACULA which then, because mystery is so sexy, made vampires an object of seduction.

i think both, it all depends on how the person is, what state of mind they r in, left or right

for both, but that's what society thinks, if they knew the truth heh....

To a lot of people in my opinion i think they beleive vampires are both dark seductive sexy and at the same time cruel and heartless.. it is that combination thats makes the steriotypical vampire so hard to resist... e.g the charater Lestat from queen of the damned... Heartless yet in his own shows emotin through the violin and his music...

i can't never forget about the phsy vampires. i was told that they only go to like clubs and raves so they can feed on a humans life force. i don't know if it true.

all vampeirs to me are beautiful and very mysterious to me not because what the media shows but how they are in general. There is something about them that shows grace in everything they do. It could be just me though..........

Okay just to let my mind wander free for a moment to describe what I see as vampire as....

I see a vampire as a beautiful creature. Someone that kills because they have to. Someone that holds the mystery to life. They Hold so much knowledge it is unbelievable. Then again Living forever would do this. I only think they are dangerous when pushed to the edge of being aggitated. Which in turn could get very scary.

I guess from what books, movies, and personal views of vampires we all see them differently. People see what they want to see and structure it basted on that

The best thing about being a real vampire is normal rash people don't believe you exist and those who do well most of them just believe the movies.

So what would be the typical vampire then? after reading all these posts i don't know what to believe.. Some people think they can live in daylight, have reflections, and can eat like humans.. how do you tell a vampire apart from a human?

I completly agree with you. From what has been said I could be considered a vampire even though I live a nice normal human life in most respects, but I do have cravings for nice warm blood at times and even drink my own when it opens up to me.
This gives me this idea, for all of you actual vampires here, you know who you are. We should talk with the aminstators to get something specialy set up for the vampires here to tell their side of it. How they actually live. What makes them a vampire. Cultural differences, etc... you get my point. I think something special should be set up just for this because the goal of this site is to collect as much data on the vampire as possible right? So who is with me, I think it would be cool to get something like this here on this site.

Well darlings it depends on what the vamp wants you to think,just as a human who comes from the same mother each is different and wants it to be known.Depending on who he or she encounters and their mood might determine either their pleasure or their demise from this realm.

Vampires are mysterious creatures in their own way. Some people consider vampires to be very luring, sexual, and attractive. That is very true. A vampire to me is all about the darkness, the passion, the mystery, and the beautiful soul it has.

Also, vampires know much more than mortals. They see through their eyes, their own perspective, that mortals are not able to see. So they know more, which makes them highly intelligent and very beautiful

They are creatures we are not yet ready to understand because we have not yet finished in understanding us mortals

most dont have a clue what vamps are really like. they just believe them to be whatever is in their heads. if they are human like , they aren't "vampires" to me.

well i think it depends and most people end up making thier mind i just for some reason always love the idea of biting and a bit of blood don't know how that came about in me but yeah. but most movies i've seen always portray vampires as killers. i guess thats why angel was a good show because it turned that around a bit and show a more humane side to vampires

in my opinion they are both and i think that them being a killer is what makes them more of a fantasy... danger is always atrakvive on some level

oringinally, vampires were thought of as blood sucking killing machines. in reality, the people who were thought of as vampires just had a disese called porphria (i think thats how you spell it). anyways, they had all the 'vampiric symptoms'; they were extreamly pale and couldnt go in the sun b/c they would get serious burns. they came out mostly at night. eventually, some went crazy which, in some cases, lead to biteing and drinking blood.

now-a-days, they are seen as mythical creatures who are both scarry and sexy. they fulfill the sexual fantasies of people who are 'kinky' or who just like the idea of 'haveing sex' with vampires.

I just want to say thanks to everyone ... not clear, the answer is .... question if there is an answer ... I am a person with vampiric qualities, vampiric desires, vampiric "stuff" that resides in my core ... I am a person ... I have a connection to sentient beings who have a commonality of similar "stuff" ("stuff" is not material things) ... I like that I where fangs as a symbol of my connectedness to this collectivity ... some may judge me as not connected, that would be there loss, not mine ... am comfortable with what I am ... I definitely feed off of the energy from others ... and I can be very empathic (which comes in handy as a therapist) ... but am not evil or destructive ... that was a part of my life once, but no more ... I think that we are all complex ... therefore, no real answer .... sorry, I do not mean to sound condesending or entitled ... am not that at all, just am who I am .... that is all and it is end ... ty all for ur input ...
