What early Archives Appealed to you the most?
What content in post appealed to you in past threads?
I believe if you do a search for threads that have been archived, You can't reaaly find one or two that stand out above the rest. Back then most all threads were interestng and easier to follow along with. Back then VR didn't have as many members making nonstop useless posts or taking over threads they didn't even create and adding nothing of any substance or anything worthy of a discussion.
As for what content was appealing. Threads with lively discussions and/or debates, as opposed to the threads seen nowadays that members (I won't mention any names, therefore I edited this before posting) fill with nonstop babble that makes little or no sense to the majority of members who would like a worthwhile discussion.
response that hold meaning and not one line answers, for alot of us that may not know the topic may pick up on things we did not know or may have never seen in a different version persay. Topics that hold on to the topic and are not misdirected beacuse of abusive language and talks towards others. many topics spark my thoughts yet am seldom ready to post beacuse of lack of confidence in myself or the post has gone arise.
the ones that stand out the most are the ones you can tell the person has done tons of research on...i love to read about history but some of the posts that i've read just blow my mind they go into so much detail...its awesome to read
Looking back I am noticing more what is not posted then what is.
Cadre has stated this so well. Challenges to the post of others tend to stray the topic every time. I have reason to believe this is entertaining to twits who have nothing to contribute, for or against a topic.
Dabbler, you wrote,
"Challenges to the post of others tend to stray the topic every time."
Challenges to the post tend to lead to a lively debate within the discussion. The members who challenge posts and have nothing to debate, or can't handle having their own opinions debated, are those who lead the thread topic astray.
I should be clearer, vague missed the point.
When people persist with pressing on tangents, it makes a thread digress. Those that simply chase answers with questions (trying to stump the person who posted the requested answer.) it really shows an intent to "stump", not understand others.
The intent of such people is to be able to feel, they "win" by default.
Even though they make no effort to support their opinion, when asked.
Fallacies of reasoning are quite obvious in their post.
example.
"Oh yea, well you cannot explain how X does Y."
reply
"X has no relation to Y, can you post something to support your assertion that X does Y?" Providing a link to a case against X doing Y., and a case of something that appeared like X doing Y.
following post.
" Well if X doesn't do Y then how about Z? Because my X doing Y is not like that...it is more like this.. " That is Twittery !
See how that works. Then someone else comes in (usually not reading any other post with.
"Well when I see X do Y I just know X is doing Y"
well said, challenging topics is fine, everyone is entitled to veiws that they seem to add to the post, yet their are a few get on to bash people and not the ideas. this is when it goes haywire. people are strong with opion, its a fact yet stay to the topic, challenge that not the person giving the challenge. thats why many religious posts are not allowed for they give their opion and than someone turns on them and not the topic.
What bothers me with the archives is simply they don't work very well...
in the first year of VR we had some amazing debates, on the nature of magic, supernatural entities, conspiracies to hide such things, and various other topics....try to find those
i've looked.....it's like they simply don't exist
for new ones coming into Vr everyday. some posts are left to hollywoods fables of myths. and that is what seems to be brought up. yet their are some here that dwell into explainations of scientific and written text on subject. Donot forget not everyone is knowledable in all posts and we should give them a chance to veiw and expression the descussion. we may in fact learn a twist we may have not been seen before. yet logical posts are more beliefs and rationing than debate. so posts that deem answers is a good post.
You have to search a couple of different ways with different key words. I've had ideas for threads and with research in past forums have changed my approach somewhat, often borrowing from what was explored before, or changing my angle. It takes patience to read through them. Not everyone is brilliant, but I'm not skimming in quite the same way as I do in the here and now.
When you think about the sheer number of people logged on, and how many actually peruse the main forum, it's actually a small number.
Many avoid it and skip right down to the sandbox. I think it makes it more personal when people actually acknowledge the person(s) to whom they are responding. I try to, although I know I slaughter some of the names. Sorry. I don't take offense at correction.
The ones of 2005, the year I joined :)
I still enjoy the Forum though and get a bit annoyed when I miss a good thread, but now I got busy with life.
Anyway one factor that I think no one didn't mention is, that people usually enjoy the Forum in the beginning then afterwards, because when you join you see everything as new, then it's like everything gets repeated.
Also there were more threads that I could post to back then, now it's like you can't state a thought unless you have a link to prove it. No offense to the new threads but I like questions when you can put your own opinion more than ones where you have to 'prove' it.
I still post what I think and feel though, it's still one of the things I like to do :)
I like the old forum posts.
There was more fun in the past on VR I think and the progresses were made especially on a personal level for some members.
Old forums about sangs are really interesting.
archieves have shown the changes and evolution of our society, but funny thing is history is suppose to repeat. huh watch out/.
Visiting a few archives I notice where the lack of skeptical post is evident, there is plenty of debate in sub topic details. For example two different schools of thought on psi source of power.
I have been through all of the archives, not in their entirety of course as that would take quite a long time. But I have read through the ones that interested me.
The thing is, I noticed in the first year there wasn't as much organization as there is now. Many threads in the main forum were certainly sandbox material. And a lot of inappropriate content.
And while yes there have been a lot of posts just to level up, I feel that the threads have much more quality than they used to from what I can tell. Many more diverse opinions.
Damned...,
In learning to grow upon the attitude in the forum to maintain the harmony, I did few minutes ago another mistakes. I went on my folly instead of being silent. What to do with my demonic nature... it’s my bad nature...
Yes I am agree with you that many posts are harmed but its interesting to see the velocity of the Peepal debating with such a velocity...! This velocity shows a beautiful sporting time of one's childhood, I love this point of view.
I remember we always formed and divided into two group to play any sporting debate game, then started to protect our vision and tried to see holes in others voice and explanation.
But when peepal start disrespecting other person or its vision, it touch the person very badly and annoyed. Such practice is bad, coz even in childhood debating the subjects children were fighting but not disrespecting each other coz both were the same coin with different part. It must not be stretched. Archives are kept when the true insertion of the knowledge and its not harmed by bulled speculation and heavy doze of criticism, even hypothecation must be such a way that it do not dishonor other person’s inner vision sharply that that unacceptable to the person who have other type of vision.
ok please someone privet message me with where would i even find these archives to look at? thank you

All you have to do is click 'Next 15' and go back. There are over 5,200 threads you can look through.
ooo yes i have seen past threads by hitting next 15 over and over .... i thought there were actually certain very important threads stored up and saved and i did not see how to get to those ...cause i know certain back files get deleted over time ...so then we dont really have a archive. thank you thoe for your time to clear my confustion
The threads on Vlad Tepes. Many of the people posting did alot of research on the intriguing figure.

The threads used to be in an archive. The only way that was possible to get to a thread in the Archive was to go directly to it's URL. But with some changes to the Forum a few months back all the threads 'came out' of the Archive, as it were. So they're all just here.
