Abraham and Elisabeth van Helsing traveled to Bistritz to investigate his newly inherited title of the Baron of Bistritz. While van Helsing was out drinking some wine with his lawyers and looking through some ancient artifacts, the Children of Judas stormed the van Helsing's new manor, slaughtered the servants, and abducted Elisabeth. Abraham returned too late to save her, but did manage to track the coven to their Black Mass in a small clearing in the woods. As this was his first encounter with vampires, van Helsing was ill-prepared to face the coven. When he saw his wife, chained naked and helpless to a granite alter, he rushed the group, shotgun in hand, and ordered them to stop. Dracula instructed the coven to continue and sent one of its number towards van Helsing. Abraham shot the vampire, blowing it halfway across the clearing, but was startled when it rose and came after him, despite the large hole in its chest. Nonetheless, van Helsing continued to fire his gun, then to use it as a club in a vain effort to rescue his wife, who disappeared under the fangs of the coven.
Van Helsing would have died himself, but then a group of soldiers and priests arrived, using crosses and whitethorn pikes to slaughter several of the Children of Judas, and to drive off the rest. Dracula vanished as well. However, Elisabeth was already dead. Van Helsing waited the three days to see his wife rise again, now a vampire, and then destroyed her in the appropriate manner. These events drove him to pursue the destruction of Dracula and his ilk for the rest of his life.

This story was told only in text, and so there are no images available.

Per Degaton tells me that van Helsing did not mention the Children of Judas in either Bram Stoker's Dracula, or in any of the movie adaptations, despite the way it might seem from reading this story and its captions.
Also, per his entry on Abraham van Helsing: Dracula Lives#3 featured a prose text story "I Was Once a Gentle Man..." by Chris Claremont which detailed the origin of Van Helsing. Once again, Claremont slightly ran afoul of Dracula continuity, as the story is told in the from of a diary entry by Van Helsing dated February 5, 1876-- with Van Helsing noting that his wife died a few days ago. Tomb of Dracula I#30’s Bismarck story makes it clear that Van Helsing had become a vampire hunter by the 1860’s,as the story took place in 1862. However, other than the date (you try getting the year right after destroying your wife, who had returned as a vampire, you wouldn’t remember what year it was AD, CE, or after the Hegira) I see no serious reason to exclude this text story. Hell, Night Raven’s entry mostly deals with text stories!
Perhaps then the above story should have taken place in 1856?

I read about that guy in Birmingham... I don't remember it on the news when it happened. but i saw a photo of the guy and he didn't look like he could do any damage... probably a deranged guy

i DID however... come across a crazy news report on google (i can't find it now) but it stated that when the US army were looking through the underground caves in iraq to capture Mr. Bin Laden... apparently they came across what they described as "vampires with turbans"apparently the US army guys that found a deep cave were attacked by about 10 individuals who when shot kept attacking i think...

Khayman, that was a fabulous read about the Children of Judas and Van Helsing. He was lucky that the priests came to his rescue! I think that particular clan of Vampires probably had red hair, because it was mentioned that Judas had. The research you did, is certainly material for Vampire movies!

Gorey, yes, and not only that but do you remember the case of a guy about six years ago now, who killed to drink the blood of his victim? It was a true story, the fellow was tried and convicted of murder in the English courts.

I know I read somewhere that Romanians believe that those with red hair are/will become vampires. They also associate them with witches.

Emmy, where is it mentioned in the NT that Judas had red hair? Do you remember? That's an amazing connection and it certainly sheds light on things.

There is nothing in the Christian Bible that indicates anything distinctive about the physical appearance of Judas. Yet at least as early as the ninth century, artists developed devices and motifs for pointing out the traitor. Making him stand out in a crowd so to speak.

It was during the Renaissance in the Middle ages that artists depicted Judas in the most hateful way they could. This was usually with red hair, red beard, and ruddy skin.

As well as visual arts, there are several other references to Judas' red hair or beard in literature, starting from the sixteenth century: in Shakespeare's As You Like It, in Dryden's nasty verses about his publisher, in Tennyson's nineteenth-century play Queen Mary; in Frank Norris's novel McTeague (1899), in William Golding's The Spire (1964) and John le Carre's The Honourable Schoolboy (1980).

I agree it is excting to find that this particular clan of Vampires, "Children of Judas" all have red hair also in keeping with the image of Judas that has been portrayed throughout history. Thankyou for that Khayman :)

Modern Day Vampire Sighting

Although this might sound like some horror story fantasy, it is actually based on the eyewitness accounts


The full moon rose above the mountain in the cloudless night, shining like a pale yellow lantern into the farmer's bedroom. But that is not what awoke him. It was the chickens. Their panicked cries had awoken him before, and it meant they were under attack. Wild dogs had gotten into the coop, the farmer thought, or perhaps a wolf. He leapt from bed, grabbed his shotgun from the bedroom corner and hurried outside. He checked the gun for cartridges as he jogged barefoot past the long, soft shadows cast by the moonlight toward the chicken coop. The predator will die tonight, he thought, as he pushed open the small door to the coop. He burst in and took aim. But he did not shoot. Instead, he froze, his senses overwhelmed by the sight before him. Several chickens lay dead in the dirt around the clawed feet of a creature the farmer had never seen before. This was no dog, no wolf. It stood on two feet at about the height of a small child. It had dark, scaly skin and a ridge of porcupine-like spines running across its head and down its back. In its short arms ending in sharp claw-like hands, the creature held a chicken to its mouth. It was not eating its prey, but seemed to be sucking the life from it. It turned to face the farmer, its red eyes blazing, and dropped the chicken to the ground. It hissed, baring its large blood-stained fangs. Then it screeched - an unearthly, terrifying noise that drove the farmer backward into the doorway. The creature, with its front claws dangling, hopped like some mutant kangaroo toward the farmer. Dumbstruck, he stumbled backward out of the coop as the creature hopped past him with another deafening shriek. The farmer was knocked to the ground, and he could feel rough, scaly skin of the creature as it passed, and felt the warm, sickening smell of its putrid breath on his face. The creature sprung onto the roof of the coop, spread short, dark, bat-like wings, and with two bounding hops flew away into the darkness. It was only then that the farmer remembered he had his shotgun. He brought it to bear, but it was too late. The creature from hell had disappeared with one last shriek that echoed off the distant mountains.

Has anyone got a good modern day Vampire fact? or true life story to tell?

I'm from Ser and I never heared anything about sect or brotherhood named like that.

Modern world almost killed vampires myth in serbia, only old people in some villages still believe in the existence of vampires and witches. When I was a kid my grandma always secretly put garlic and cross made of knife and piece of wood under my pillow, "to be protected"

Well, I was talking to a friend the other week. He told me an interesting story that I think would fit in here.

When he was about 15, now in 40's, he lived with his parents and brothers and sisters about 7 minutes from where I live now. Anyway, one full moon night, his father was awakened by this chickens in the chicken coop. He ran outside with his shotgun and several extra bullets. My friend was awakened by the gun shots. His father said that someone or rather something was in the chicken coop. He shot this person or thing 9 times. The person was about 6 foot tall, hairy in the face (his father said that he wouldn't really call it a face), real thick (don't know if the person was really that big or if it was just layers of clothes), and it had one chicken under each arm and one in the mouth and one in each hand. As I said, it was shot about 9 times. The police were called out to find this thing. Nothing was ever found. No blood, no foot prints, nothing. They searched for days in the woods around this area looking for this person or thing. The police still have it as an unsolved mystery here in our town.

To this day, things like this still happen in the same area, but nothing has come of it. It is like it is there and **poof** it is gone. No traces, no nothing.

Yes I find it fascinating too Ghost. I am a bit surprised, however, nobody posted on the, "Highgate Vampire" A recent Vampire happening in England..

They could not believe their eyes as they passed the graveyard’s north gate at the top of the lane, for in front of them bodies appeared to be emerging from their tombs. One of these schoolgirls later suffered nightly visitations and blood loss. The second incident, some weeks later, involved an engaged couple who were walking down the same lane. Suddenly the female shrieked as she glimpsed something hideous hovering behind the gate’s iron railings. Then her fiancé saw it. They both stood frozen to the ground as the spectre held them in thrall. Its face bore an expression of basilisk horror. Soon others sighted the same phenomenon as it hovered along the path behind the gate where gravestones are visible either side until consumed in darkness. Before long people were talking in hushed tones about the rumoured haunting in local pubs. Some who actually witnessed the spectral figure wrote to their local newspaper to share their experience. Discovery was made of animal carcasses drained of blood. They had been so exsanguinated that a forensic sample could not be found. It was only a matter of time before a person was found in the cemetery in a pool of blood. This victim died of wounds to the throat. The police made every attempt to cover-up the vampiristic nature of the death. Seán Manchester informed the public on 27 February 1970 that the cause was most probably a vampire. He appeared on television on 13 March 1970 and repeated his theory. The VRS, whose specialist unit within a larger investigatory organisation (now defunct) had opened the case twelve months earlier, established a history of similar hauntings that went back to before the graveyard existed. A suspected tomb was located and a spoken exorcism performed. This proved to be ineffective"

Emaerald the thing Elder Dan was speaking of was gargoyle like. The thing I was speaking of was like "Big Foot" (for lack of better term).

I am a spaniard and my grandfather is from spain when I was very young he told my mother to start putting garlic in our rooms and crosses above our beds and to this day she does so I also have heard about the soldiers finding the vampires in turbans but you do have to realize that soldiers see alot and are delusional I am not saying they did not see it just that they can not really be trusted oh and my grandfather also mentioned something to my mom about the another age of darkness or something no Idea what he was talking about

(a.k.a: Goatsucker)



El Chupacabra, which means "Goat Sucker", is the biggest terror of central american farmers. Animals like cows, goats and chickens are found dead and drained of all their blood. Sightings come by tons, and people fear it. What is this creature called Chupacabra?

The monster is described by most as being bipedal, some say it walks, some say it flies, and some say it has a kangaroo hop. It is around four feet tall, weighing an odd seventy pounds, having a spiked crest, with a round head. The color varies, from greenish to black. Some reports say it smells bad.

What is it?
Explanations about it are numerous, going from the alien animals who came here with aliens as pets, for study or who were released in our planet by some evil race with intension to take the world. Other says that there are genetically created monsters by the NASA.

Reports

There are some reports of killed Chupacabras, and one of a Chupacabra caught alive. A man caught it an put it in a cage. Because he didn't wanted to show it to the TV teams, it's hard to believe. He only allowed two investigators to see it. Among the reports of killed Chupas, there is a Brasilian one where 2 fishers saw something coming out of a lake. They shot at it. Then they realized that they got a Chupacabra. They took it's head and showed it, but refused to let people make analysis on it. The other case occured while a farmer fired on something that terrorized it's livestock. Somewhat later he found the carcass and it looked like a Chupacabra.

there was a case in dortmund, germany a couple of years ago. i browsed the net but i just cant find any more information about it.
a young couple invited people over, killed them and drank their blood. both of them claimed they were vampyres and got a life sentence

History: The Brotherhood of Judas was a coven of vampires who sought to make themselves rulers of England. They sought to due this be deliberately choosing specific victims either in areas of power or with different fields of interest and expertise. Harkins sought to recruit the living vampire Morbius to their cause, in order to gain his expertise in science and medicine. In order to test the character of Morbius, as well as his potential for candidacy, he dispatched Morgana St. Clair to evaluate him.

St. Clair met Morbius aboard the luxury liner Muritania, where she protected him from capture, revealed she knew his identity, pretended to be a vampire hunter, and requested his aid in her mission. Morbius was eventually driven to flee the ship, but had taken her information for future contact.

Morbius then sought the aid of Dr. Samuel Harkins, a renowned researcher into diseases of the blood, to help him cure his condition. Harkins confessed his nature as a true vampire to Morbius, and invited him to join the Brotherhood. Morbius denounced their plans and managed to escape their resultant attacks. The Brotherhood decided that it was now time for them to enter religion as well, and made plans to bring a priest into their coven.

Morbius sought the aid of Morgana, and the two of them took down two cloaked members of the Brotherhood and infiltrated their ritual. Morgana instructed Morbius to wait for the right moment to attack, allowing Harkins to bite and drain blood from the priest they had captured, Morgana then revealed her true nature as a member of the Brotherhood, and exposed Morbius and his plans to the rest. They attacked him, but Morbius managed to bring down an immense candelabra, setting the members of the Brotherhood on fire. All members were apparently slain in the fire. Morbius then used a cross to stake the heart of the dying priest at his request to prevent him from becoming a vampire.

I noticed there are many informative facts being presented. But I feel that the majority of people that claim belief in vampires or claim to be one seem to use and manipulate any excuse to be considered a vampire. The most common I have noticed is referring to oneself as a "Psy" vamp. Or manipulating the stories of history to suit their lifestyles,i.e. Referring to Anne Rice vampires as if they were real or their refusal to accept that a vampire is believed to have no soul, and claiming they do and that THEY should know, considering they believe they are true vampires. I think the majority on this site just use any excuse to claim to be a creature of the night with the assumption that it is a beautiful elagant non-evil, and on a few occasions have been told of "christian" vampires. I don't think anyone really knows or cares to know what a vampire REALLY was/is. All I do know is a high school student doesn't. I feel they believe what they WANT to and make up the rest.

Look at folklore from around the world. I heard several stories now from a few Native American Indian tribes that tell about secret societies very much feared because they "shape shift" at night. These very silent, rare secret societies are said to hold unbelieveable powers and are revered. But, I'm not sure if they would be considered Vampire in nature.

ok bloodbaby, let me get this straight then. You are a descendant od Dracula himself correct? Then Why would you post a thread asking why night is affiliated to vampires. Shouldn't you already KNOW this. I mean, seriously, if you know he sleeps in secrecy why not offer more proof than the incessant ramblings of a wanna be who happens to be from romania. And how did you come to find this knowledge that YOU the a descendant of Romania, I mean woukdn't you have LEGAL and heritical claim to his castle if such a claim were TRUE? See, I'm not going to call you any deragatory names like lunatic, or stupid. But you have to admit than any SANE or LOGICAL person WOULD wonder about these simple and common questions. And if you are a Direct descendant, and if rumor has it correctly that the romanians loved Vlad and await his return, Why has he not risen? I love the stories and possible facts. I know of the Cuca stories and many more, many of which I can't remember. I also believe that I am a descendant of a family Vampire, but not a major famous one, as my family is from Germany anFrance and such. But i have to go with everyone else. If you are a descendant of dracula himself we would like proof, after all we are on here to learn about vampires and such. So why not help us in our beliefs and research. Too many want to hurt vampires, but they don't know them. I say I believe I am a descendant of one because I have reason to believe. I just wish that all the ones who believe they are would show proof of some kind so we can learn. I will not say I am a Vampire becaue I haven't been able to find out for sure. I wish I could it would answer why I am the way I am. Anywyas thanks for the stories. If I come across anything i will sure post it for everyone.
