On the travel channel on North American TV, there's a new show about ghost hunting called "Ghost Adventures". In the show every week these three guys visit the most haunted places around the world and lock themselves in said areas. Once locked down, they proceed to film paranormal events such as ghosts and EVP. What a lot of other similar shows don't seem to catch are the phenomena on video and the Ghost Adventures crew do certainly capture some fascinating footage as well as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) -- unexplainable stuff.

My question for this debate is, are they capturing genuine phenomena or have we yet another show which uses trickery to capture viewers. In my opinion, I would say it is genuine, however I am interested in your opinions on this. Do you believe they are genine?

How did this thread get buried without one single response?

I don't care for that show, bunch of unprofessional guys acting like kids on an investigation to get ratings. Sorry.

Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters are better.

I met the guys when they came to Edinburgh, they seemed nice enough but I imagine their show is probably like every other show that fakes paranormal activity so that there's something to put on tv, urgh.

I believe that they catch genuine pharanormal activity. Things that NOBODY can explain. No matter how much they and anyone else tries to disprove it the said activity still goes unexplained.

The same goes with all other paranormal shows. There are things that cannot be explained.

Well, here's the thing... If I grabbed some Energizer batteries and attached them to an EMF, sure, I'd get magnetic reading off of various things. Doesn't mean I have found information indicative of supernatural activity. It only means I should probably conduct variable tests to see what I've got.

That's my only issue (ha, that's a lie.. not my only issue) with the data segments of these shows. Who can expect a definitive answer -- or even a ball-park speculation based on a test with no control set?

When conducting an experiment, you need a control to gauge the variable results against, right? So, while picking up some uncommon feedback from something, you don't just brush your hands off on your jeans and say "Yep, conclusively, there is something paranormal happening because the tinfoil battery pack I got from a NASA download and have no clue how else to apply, says so!"

Lucky you. Edinburg Scotland has one of the most notorious haunted castles. I'd love to see it.
The show started out on what seemed like the up & up, but lately they seem overly dramatic, which leads me to believe they are faking alot of stuff for show worthy.
Ghost Hunters did an entire show in Altoona Pa. and of course everone is familair with State College's Paranormal State team, Ryan Buller. They are more on the up side of research.
Shame Ghost Hunters didn't do they History well enough before visiting Altoona, plenty of haunted places to visit, like Mansion Park, Bakers Summit, Railroad of Horseshoe Curve and Devils Curve. There are enormous books based on ghosts of Pennsylvania, and Gettysburg made the top ten of most scariest and haunted.

it got burried because most "ghost hunting shows" are just that... Pure hype. I have yet to see one show in this genre that gives actual documentation other then TAPS.

While most of TAPS findings are quite the occasion, a few of them can be far fetched.

Personally, I think they are all about sensationalism. Anything to prey on the minds of society to either get them to come to terms with their fear(s), or just plain scare the bloody hell out of the naive.

I watch this program too, some stuff on EVP is strange, a few things on film as well, but they are loud and shouting when they enter those buildings, so they could be missing much more evidence, as where Ghost Hunters is a show to disclaim hauntings and when they get stuff they can't explain, they are reluctant to tell the person that called them that in deed the place is haunted.
I guess every one is a disbeliever until it happens to you personnally.
I like scariest places on earth best, the one of Dracula's castle is awesome.

Merry Meet all

Well for me being a paranormal investigator for over 32 years, I find GH and GHI offensive, especially when they have been found out that their camera crew is faking some stuff now.

Ghost Adventurers is okay, but Zak needs to back off from the intimidation or he will get hurt by a narly spirit. It does happen, and I have been on the receiving end and seen others get hurts as well.

Paranormal State was good until they went bonkers on the demon thing, now everything is a demon. REALLY????

I have seen, and recorded numerous things that I, and others can not explain.

Blessed Be.

I watch this show.I believe that some things are real,
but when a show starts to loose the viewers intrest
i KNOW they set-up some fake things to get more ratings.Like the show 'worlds most haunted'..now
you KNOW that is fake.
I see parts where you could see another person
in a corner of the screen that hiddin to make noises
and such.

Really, I think you'll find that 99% of all 'paranormal activity' that occurs on a tv show is entirely staged. I have seen the most recently aired episode of new Most Haunted Live and something happens every five seconds. As soon as they walk in, they start getting candles thrown at them. I've gone into those vaults almost every day for more than a year, thousands of times, and not once has anything unseen ever lobbed a candle at me, nor at any of my colleagues.

EMF metres are a waste of time, because it is difficult to find anywhere these days that does not have some sort of electric current nearby. EMF metres go off alot in our vaults because of the security lighting, and power in the above levels.
The truth is more interesting than the tripe they put on tv shows. Don't believe most of it, these shows are there to ENTERTAIN you, not EDUCATE you. It's all pish put on for the sake of television.

I think that Ghoast adventures is an amateur production. All taunting and disrespect. Zack Baggins in my opinion is just riding the "paranormal investigator" bandwagon. Some of their "findings" are obviously staged.I think that Jay and Grant from TAPS as well as their international counterparts are WAY more accurate and professional.

Ghost Adventures is a bunch of BS. It is staged.

TAPS & GHI & Paranormal State are much more professional and use a lot of science at the locations that they visit.

i do like gh and ghi...but to be real science they cant just go in for one night, then base their findings on what the find/dont find.

real investigations should take some time.

Any show that "hunts ghosts" is staged...no matter how "professional" they make act.

I find ghost hunting shows hilarious in general. I believe a lot is staged, and sometimes, I think they really do blow things wildly out of proportion.

Most Haunted was a joke since day one, by the way. All you get is blondie screaming her head off at every small noise, and some middle aged "psychic" fainting at every turn.

Ghost adventures, I like to watch their crewman freak out.

Taps, is a lot more professional, helps to improve the image of ghost hunters out there, but I think it has started to change a lot since the first episode. Sometimes it seems more a drama than ghost hunting. Thus my disinterest nowadays.

I do not put much stock in that show. Upon finally getting cable , I was excited to be able to watch the show but quickly became board with it. To me its more like a kids show.

I love Ghost Adventures and I do think they do a great job and catch more than most. I do think sometimes they make it more than what there is. But I also like that they are funny.
