I find now adays that it takes a sledgehammer to draw a persons attention to anything important as every blasted form of communication is bogged down with people trying to sell you stuff, buy into their religion or just tell you a joke....

I suppose the problem lies in the fact that everyone thinks they have something to say and that they should have their two bits even if they are a stupid two bits.....

A human arrogance and a deadly flaw as people drown in the swelling mundus.....

The problem is that people are simply mindlessly regurgitating information that they hear with no questioning if it is true or not.....

like the myth that women have an extra rib.

Now with people all full up of disinformation and having to close and shut their eyes lest some new nugget be forced into the waiting orifice how on earth do they have time to come to know themselves at all?

The problem and the question is.... how does one find truth in this?

To find truth is to search for it. The old say "don't believe everything you hear until you see it yourself." As for the extra rib on women. The extra rib comes from when Eve took Adams !!

It's almost impossible to find truth unless you trust your own conscious....but I wouldn't recommend that.

I usually don't believe people and what they say. After i hear something I find out if it's true or not on my own.

finding truth means you either have a really fucking good intuition, or you like to study. that's all it comes down to. Even books such as "The Book of Lies" made by the wonderful Richard Metzger of Disinformation can make you wonder.

In fact while I don't like some of the stuff they put in the books they're pretty damn good for info and if not for that a good laugh.

well a lot of that has been happening and few teachers want to be challenged. only a good teacher would tell you that there are diff view points and you should reasearch more. so people just go to school download what the teacher teaches spit it back at the teacher or another person. then they call themself learned

I don't think it is just teachers Corazon.... also I think it's that people will suck up what every is about them and label it truth 'cause it's comforting to think of the universe as a known and knowable place.... rather than the big scarey place it is.....

As for the rib thing there are rare people of both genders who have extra ribs.... so Adam might have created Fred first and then he decided that while Fred was fun he'd really like to do something a little different and well the farm animals just wern't cutting it. I like disinformation tho to be honest I havn't read any of their books tho I thought I had when I had read "apocalypse culture" but that is by feral house press

as for disinformation....any book is a good read. the book of lies would have to be my first recomendation...then probably two smaller books that i belive are simply titled "everything you know is wrong". one of the books is white...the other black....pretty easy to find.
the later books i mentioned have some fun facts in them....such as....in medieival times, one of the catholic popes actually wrote an erotic novel....i believe something akin to the marqueis de sade.
also...if you can find the disinformation series on DVD that is deffinitly worth the money.
even the bonus disk is worth it. it has highlights from the disinfo con in new york including speakers such as richard metzger, grant morrison(comic book writer as well as chaos magickian), douglas ruskoff(political analyst, pop culture comentator), joe coleman(artist), robert anton wilson(a genius of a man, he wrote the illuminatis trilogy as well as schrodingers cat, and basically founded discordianism) as well as a few others....including the antichrist superstar himself....Marylin Manson. in the words of timothy leary...."find the others"

I am not sure about truth, after all it did not set Mulder free .... I work with generalizations and stereotypes .... no I will not jump in the well cuz a long time ago I developed the belief that I want to live ... I have developed a very primative ability to discern between what I need to believe, what I have to believe and what I want to believe (hey, I will be the first to admit that I am not always right in my choices) ... I am influenced by everything, but it is me as an idea melting pot that makes things unique and interesting .... I dont know but sometimes I think that some of my most severly psychiatrically disabled patients were closer to the "truth" than I will ever be ... interesting stuff ... thanks for the thread ...

Morey I'm interested in the human conditon so going off to rut in the woods with some rubber hose and a bottle of wine is always some prat of the conversation 'cause it's a mistake to think that you can devide a person down and split them into their component thoughts and beliefs and that you'll be able to reassemble them... all you end up with is a bloody mess if you try that route.....

I personally, find the problem not so much with the information fed to us, but with the way each of us recieves and digests it. (sorrry, but this is going to be a food based analogy)

some of us take it and swallow it whole with barely a cursory glance at it. (most of the populace)

Others prefer to have a look and take it and take it with a grain of salt. (possibly the more aloof among us)

And the rest of us usually cut it up into small pieces, and chew it carefully, examining the tastes that pass across our pallate (sp?) spitting out the pieces of gristle and placing them on the side of our plate to be desposed of.

I've been thinking about that who is happier: me, who analyzes every little boring bit of info I get and by doing that I learn so many other things about how world is fucked up, and find out that what looked so nice when they served it to me is very rotten if you bite the core, or the one who swallows everything you serve to him and if you say:"Yeah, that was tasty!" he'll say that it's tasty too, not even trying to feel how does that tastes.
