Ave Vampire Rave I come to you this day to discuss
the youth of the site and to get your thoughts on them..
there have been some misunderstandings due to the pictures on their profiles.
I think that the site should put a sign under their avatars saying underage.
some may say that it is a good idea and some will say it's not.
I know I have made mistakes due to this, as well as have been lied to by some underage people on the site.
I feel it would be beneficial because no one can say they didn't know the person was underage.
thus cutting down on the misunderstandings.
what are your thoughts on this matter?
I suppose I don't really care one way or another. I don't conduct myself with people on line in anyway that would not be appropriate for a youth, so I have no worries as to age.
I don't see myself really having a lot of conversation with anyone who is too young, simply because we wouldn't have much in common.
However, I can see the concerns one might have about protecting themselves and youth from engaging in an inappropriate conversation by mistake.
I would have to agree 100% about the underage sign. Or even making it a MUST to have their age displayed as some just leave it blank and you're never quite sure.
Then again nothing can stop people lying about their age on their profile or when they sign up.
But would it be a good idea to have the underage with a sign to let others know that they are?
this is true but when they lie then they can't say the person didn't know they was underage.
I think it would be worth a try...it may help to drown out some of the drama and miscommunications...I personally feel this should be an 18+ site...but I suppose everyone has a right to their opinion..as long as there is a way to protect the minors and adults alike..then there isnt a huge problem..there just tends to be alot of dishonesty and drama that occurs when speaking with someone online..
I'm not sure I agree with making it 18+ as there are some underagers who are a HELL of alot more mature than people say... in their mid 40's
But something has to be done about the underagers. Alot of people, come on here seeing it as a dating site and get into alot more then they can handle..
this is true.
Thats why I feel if it was known who was underage it would cut down on a lot of the BS and lies.
Good questions my friend. But as has been stated folks can lie about their age.
I agree that some erm...."conversations" and pictures are not for minors. But what can one do, tis a free internet so to speak. And if they lie about their age and engage in online activities, etc. there is little to be done.
its been some of the undearge that have been causing all the trouble for a lot of people causing some to leave
and cancel thier accts
Any member can lie about their age. The majority of members on this site are under-age [13-18]. A way to avoid mistakes is to make sure that they are of age before doing something that could be considered mistake material.
There wouldn't be a point in putting an 'underage' sign on 'underage' members profiles, because there is no way to prove a member is underage.
yes but if they lie or hide their age then the fault falls on them not the adult. thus cutting down on the well they knew how old I was. because if there is a sign under there name the adult has no excuse, but if there's not then it falls on the minor for lying about their age in the first place.
I'd have to agree that it's pointless to put an 'underage' sign on someone's profile. Besides, isn't age one of the first questions you ask someone when getting to know them? This is the point where the lies about age generally arise anyway. Not to mention some could find it demeaning to suddenly be forced to "wear" a sign saying UNDERAGE.
Dylan, I would laugh at you if you had one though. lol.
LONA-
That's why one should make sure to find out a person's age [like LM said] before doing anything. If they choose not to find out the person's age, its their [the one who fails to find out] fault.
And I bet you would, Daniel ... I bet. you. would. ;]
i totally agree with you My Lord, we should have signs to show our age i try to make my as apparent as possible but i guess people still "missunderstand", or they just don't care that i am underage and honestly i do not wish to be confronted in that manner by anyone but yes minor should have a sign posting their age it will be easier and better for all of VR
A lot of underage members have very promiscuous/suggestive pictures and text on their profiles. And yes some adults. I think its inappropriate but not much you can do about it. The best thing is to just veer from these sorts, they are obviously here to just flirt and show their wares lol.
If you behave yourself with other members you should have no worries. They can lie. Many do. As far as protecting the adult when it comes to the internet, not much you can do. Putting that under their names won't help much in the long run.
well I do not see where posting a sign is gonna stop the underage members from doing what they want or say what they want, yet I do understand the fact that some are even under 13 on here, because I have encountered some myself over the years here.
So I feel that as long as an adult is not being *forward* or using *misconduct* with whom they talk with on here then there should be no problem. I mean it is not a meet singles site ( even though many of us have met someone and made relationships from here ) I feel it would be up to CANCER & the ADMINS. as to what they would like done.
Yet, keep in mind people still lie whether young or older, so... it is a catch 22 so to say.
I say just screen whom you are talking to if you have had any problems with the Youth on here.
Since this is not necessarily a dating site I suppose I feel like if you're going to engage in inappropriate online behavior with complete strangers you know nothing about the consequences are your own. Being an adult means carring heavier consequences if you make a mistake.
I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but where I'm from just because you don't know somebody is underage doesn't protect you from consequence even if they do lie. A college basketball star in the area went to prison a year or two ago for having sex with a sixteen year old who said she was 22 and had the fake ID to prove it.
My advice don't say anything to anyone you don't know that you can be held against you later.
A question of Mature people interacting prior to interacting in Age appropriate behavior. It is my practice in public as well as online to interact in the open visible functions of a sight. Like a mingle party.
Those that seek to embarres people with age appropriate content
usually do so to mock that them as perverts, the phish needs to watch for bait, to put it bluntly.
Is this a dating site?
People tend to misrepresent themselves when they want to peek behind a presentation, to test how far they can play the role. The first sign something is up, is the script narrative, it is actually too easy.. and managed in pace.
I applaud people who draw out those that are presumptuous socially.
So ... we should just hang a "scarlet letter" on every VR Member's profile just because they are underage?Vampire Rave membership requires a minimum age of 13 years.
I don't conduct myself with people on line in anyway that would not be appropriate for a youth
I have to stand with LordVlkodlak on this matter, why should the under aged be "branded" . As adults on this site it is our responsibility to look after our younger members. Lets flip the coin on this, by marking our "teens " this way are we not flagging them for the perverts who do come seeking our younger members.
Communication is the only solution here. ask questions if your unsure of age. Yes i am aware of some younger members lying about their ages but with the right conversations it becomes obvious how old and mature they really are.
Honestly there is no need to single out the under age people on this site or any of the other Dark Network sites. Agreeing with the post above on this one as well. If you single out one you might as well single out the rest of the different areas or ages as well.
Get to know the person that you are talking with and conduct your self or ourselves in a way that is respectful to our selves and everyone else there is no problem. Imagemaker said it best though in their post.

Can't forget those 'perverts' could mark themselves as underage to do their 'thing' easier.
a driver lic. has under 21 on it does that mean that the gov. is poking fun at the underage people no.
I don't think it is just the adults part to know sorry I don't agree. if they are old enough to get on the site they should be old enough to understand why they should have their age on their profile but because some of them don't I think those that do tell the truth should have underage on their profile. and some profiles do say they are emo or into bdsm.
but thats not the point. I have been taking a poll on this matter and so far many say it should be so.

Do you think the site should have the underage members of the site have a sign under their avatar like the the site Admin So we know who is underage?

1. yes so there can be no mistakes 102 76.69%
2. no 31 23.31%
Total Votes: 133
So there can be no Mistakes.. Implies that someone has mistakenly presumed a member was an appropriate age, had that person asked out right then they would have been able to nip the exchange in the bud. I would think there would be socializing before any forward adult
content is brought to a interaction. If you take short cuts you are prone to follow false trails.
I would have to disagree on one point with LordVlkodlak, I don't think it would be "branding" as such.
And about reading the profiles? People dont always put their ages and such, so you can't tell.
But I suppose, basically, there's no way to fairly use this underage sign or even ask that they put their age as people lie.
It's a fact.
LONA-
A poll doesn't really prove much. There are 13,629 members on Vampire Rave. A Poll can't be considered 'proof' unless all vote.
Yes I hide nothing I made a mistake and sent a child my bite, my bites are custom, and and regret it but I am trying to mend that. Am I blunt yes I am am I forward yes I am. and as far as speaking to some one I have known a member for quite some years I will not say her name. but me and my coven thought she was 21.
she has a grate mind. the way we found out she was underage was her mother after two years of me knowing her and her friends as well as her ex man. I found out she was just 16.
so I am trying to find a way that things like this dont happen.
and don't come off like you should have known because there are some teens who act more mature then some of you on this site.
There are certain covens that are age restricted are their not, that I can understand, I would imagine those in that coven have intimate present knowledge of each other. People with adendas in engaging members they just met without asking the persons age, and assessing the credibility of the response need to learn, and research a better approach.
not say it does but so far the favor is in for the sign.
It is a good idea, but I dont understand how it would work m'Lord. On this site, it doesnt ask for your date of birth, you can change your age at any given moment.
I think it would be fruitless to mark underage members. As has been said, they could simply lie. Besides that, I think that the wider the age range that contributes to forums such as this, the more interesting the discussion will be for everyone. Typically, as we age, our viewpoints on various topics become solidified through our own experiences. Often, a fresh, perhaps naive, viewpoint can throw just the right amount of stirring into the pot. I think we should value both the opinions of the inexperienced and experienced equally for each of their unique "lenses" through which they view the world. Sure, the possibility exists for unwholesome, perhaps even criminal, interaction with minors. However, such instances ought to be removed from any public forum by the Administration.
then the site should.
I know many here think the site should be 18 and over but as is said so many times it is what Cancer wants and not the site. I am just trying to find a way to protect us all.
The 'favor' doesn't really matter. There are many people who don't think people under 18 should be here, but they fail to realize most of the contributers to this site are so.
Thankfully this is Cancer's site, and he does what he wants with it.
I learn to spot cloak and dagger profiles, it is not too hard they are usually very attractive on a shallow level.
And quite frankly, if you don't like the way the site is run, then why are you still here?
LONA-
''I am just trying to find a way to protect us all.''
This would be simple by people asking someone's age, which people refuse to ask.
Some what the reaction of others, being able to impress younger people is attractive.
Did he ever say he didnt like how the site was run, he was making a suggestion. Really, people, come on.
I am not going to get into my thoughts on that mbk because I mite get suspended again, and that's not the topic of this thread. so please keep on subject
and I do ask most of the time some ones age but people can still lie about it
Underage people are on this site. We are all knowing of this. There are good points on both sides in this thread.
I been here almost four years. And never have i changed my ways. Meaning..... no matter who i spoke to.... a youth or an adult could hear it. I know many who cuss quite heavy. I VERY seldom even do that. When i do, its to those i known for some time and over age.
My two cents.
what he was saying was about cancer not the topic at hand
LONA- I beg to differ. It goes a bit hand in hand with what you're saying.
'So we know who is underage or not'.
Asking would be much easier than just slapping a sign on them like the tattoo's the Nazi's gave the Jews.
After reading everyone's take on this I'm gonna go with no to the sign on the profile and yes to people being more careful to what they do and say to potentially under-agers. There is NO way to tell if someone is lying on the internet about their age as someone has pointed out before, so the signs would be useless. I would just say be careful with what you say to anyone to avoid 'mistakes'.
I agree with Lord Ryu. There are sites that have ways of making sure that you are the age that you claim to be. If not a sign under their avatar, it should be mandatory that the age of all members be available. That way everyone on the site is made to feel just as uncomfortable but safe too. the penalty of lying about their ages could be ip ban. I was a teacher once and I'm here to tell you these underaged are way more mature and advanced for their ages. it is very possible for them to pull the wool over your eyes. and it is actually dangerous for vr not to take steps because a parent could sue for the website not taking steps to protect their underage from the over 18 because vr relies on the honor system. the truth is people lie.
If the person that ask then there is an existing doubt in the mature parties mind, it is best to error in caution, knowing that youth present themselves as older members to peek behind screened areas, where behavior that is in
No way hinted at in the initial encounter. Watch a person get ticketed for giving a cigerette to a minor, it presents a fair analogy.
in asking as I have said many many times people can lie don't tell me there is no way of making sure they are the age they say they are I know sites that make sure of the age of its members. come on with technology today it can be done.
look I am not trying to fight I just wanted to see what others thoughts on the subject would be.
How about a personal disclaimer? On the profiles of people that seek to engage in age restricted conduct.
''in asking as I have said many many times people can lie don't tell me there is no way of making sure they are the age they say they are I know sites that make sure of the age of its members. come on with technology today it can be done.

There is no real way to tell the age of a member. Technology can't varify whether someone is or isn't 18 or not. And even if there was, people could just have someone over 18 sign up for them.
Ok, to stop the bashing on people, PLEASE READ!!!
This isnt just for the sake of the adults, but the children. Placing an underage stamp on their profile would be more of a help then a curse to them. Its not in shame. I know many girls on here who are 15-16 and HAVE THAT AGE ON THEIR PROFILE. But still, men will send them shit and be sexual and are VERY indescent and rude, and then claim, oh I didnt see their age, my bad. What my Lord Ryu is trying to do is help these minors more than the adults. If they have that on their profile, then YES, people will have NO RIGHT to say, oh I ddnt see their age when its PLAIN AS DAY that they are INDEED, UNDERAGE. So why dont you think of it THAT way other than trying to protect the adults, because its not really, its for the safety of these kids and so they dont have to go through that crap.
What are you on about, Ryu? There is no way, regardless of technology, to verify the age of a member while still respecting their privacy. The only thing that can be obtained purely through the internet is their IP address. What do you propose they do? Ask for ID numbers of every member? Perhaps we should all put in our SSN's? There is such a thing as privacy. Knowing that people lie about their age on a regular basis, you should already be taking precautions not to be caught in a similar situation. I speak to everyone the same way. I don't care what age they are, and quite frankly, it's very rare when I can't tell about how old someone is just by the way the write and the things they write about over time.
dabbler your right I think that would be a good idea as well, to show I am for it I will have one made for my profile
If people DO lie, then they deserve what they get. But for those who are honest should be protected, that way these guys dont keep getting away with this shit. And accidents wont happen. It would steer the predators away from the young.
LOL again with the block button lol it does not always work.
No, men should not do that in the first place, its a crime that yo dont just simply push a block button for.
Usually I'm the crotchety old guy yelling "hey kids get of my lawn" or in this case my profile however, I think the issue of age is really a moot point when it comes to the internet.
For one if a person wishes to engage in R-rated conversation they would do well to at least ask if the other person is over 18. If, by looking at a simple pic, you feel the urge to start horning it out then you probably lack the over all ethics to really worry about their age anyway.
Yes 15 year olds who put up slutty pictures deserve to get "creeps" dry humping their legs --online-- but, at the same time, an adult should have the ability to keep his (or her) pants on. Heck whatever happened to A/S/L before the naughty conversation?
Really, it boils down to morality and the total lack of it online.
I don't mind people having dirty convos, flirting, cybering or whatever but at least talk to the person for more than 2 minutes and learn something like age or even if they're interested.
Even I have engaged in "colourful" conversations with people but I have the wherewithal to say "hey are you 18?" AND it was on a site where sexuality was a given, heck I've been a feature member of gay.com for a month so far now lol.
Anyway the point I'm trying to make is this is not a site geared towards sexual conversation. If you are under age and start talking about sex (or putting up mature photos) then you have no right to get upset when you get hit on. If you are of adult age then you should be smart enough to ask.
I feel like I've actually had to repeat myself in this post to get it across. I mean seriously is the age issue really become such a problem folks can't handle themselves? I'm actually feeling nauseas. If your avatar is more than your face then you are not innocent, if a person dives into an adult conversation based solely on your face then they need to get slapped and I'm sorry.
No one should be forced to give their age publicly in an internet situation. If you think they should then you're probably the one at fault for being totally immature and nasty/gross.
Grow up people, seriously. Whorish children and ill-minded adults make me sick.
The block button always works. They can't message you again or comment. It's those who don't block those kinds of people's fault.
I think if underage kids/people want to come to this site they should...
1. Act their age
2. Tell the truth
3. Be monitored for provocative pictures
If they don't like it they have plenty of other sites to go to.
The only other thing that I can think of is for Cancer to make another VR site for those that are 14 to 18 with an automatic change to the main VR at 19 or something like that.
and you should know this.....you are making it sound like you know me, and you dont. I know what I am talking about. The predators on this site are not taken care of, and should be, but that isnt the topic, but its my reason for why I vote YES
twoforme -
You're making it sound like Vampire Rave is strictly an 18 and above site.
Vampire Rave is NOT an adult content site, therefore adults should know better than to act the way they do.
If people want to do that they can join an 18 and over site.
Then if they speak with them they ca be reasonably punsihed because its plain as day that these kids are underage!! And stop copying my shit, I know what I said, you dont have to remind me. Are you just looking to pick a fight with anyone who is for it? Why do you have to question everyone's opinion?? Just let people have their say and get on with it, if you dont want it, sa so and be gone, that is all this thread is for, suggestions and opinions, not debates, because like everyone has said, its Cancers final decision not yours or anyone elses
It's like a great big target saying "Look at me, I'm underage!" This can't possibly protect the kids. Are you suddenly expecting the predators to see the banner and think to themselves, "uh-oh, this person is underage. I know I'd usually talk to them, but since they have a banner now, it's probably best if I don't."
MBK-
but people dont act the way they should like you jus stated, like I just said, let people have the people have their opinons. Not everyone is going to agree with you, not everyone is going to agree with anyone, its the way it is, so just let it go, you are obviously against it, point made. and that is all that is needed to be known.
But there is a lot on this site that is 18 and over content yes or no MBK?
LONA -
No. This site is supposed to be PG13, which is why nudity is not allowed on here.
I agree with LM, I don't think it's a good idea to assign a mark for the younger profiles here. It would only facilitate predators & make it easier for them to find the young teens.
come on bro I see some of the pics and I know that if I saw any of them on my child profile I would put foot to ass.
I did, and you make it seem like my reasonings are pointless, and they are not. People who try speaking to a minor in a sexual manner(when its clear of their age that they are a minor) just say, oh I didnt know, it would be good to have something there so they cant say that and just get away with it. It would help in a sure punishment, and it would let others know who dont want to associate with minors know that. If a minor wants to lie of their age, then they deserve what they get.
Then by all means the poll should have been enough for this matter, if support for opinions was not sought.
The autor of the thread can feel free to present support for the idea, and read counter concerns.
LONA-
''come on bro I see some of the pics and I know that if I saw any of them on my child profile I would put foot to ass''
People are responsible for what they put on their profile. If people don't want to get hit on they shouldn't put provocative images on their profile. It's their fault.
It's also they fault of the adult for messaging the minor with something that is 18 plus material.
If you are doing nothing that violates the TOS then all communication on this site is appropriate for ages 13 and over. If you are having issues beyond that, check your own behavior.
