In the movie, Interview With A Vampire, Armand stated that the first rule of a Vampire is to be Powerful, Beautiful, and Without Regret. But what does it mean to be such, in your opinion?
I welcome your responses.
To me my brother it means to know ones self and be secure on who and what you are..
dark blessings my brother...
Ryu Noctem Aeternus
it means to be one's self and take anything and everybody that you need to survive and do not regret anything you do to stay alive/undead
To me it means.. In order to have control you need to have power and beauty. Most of the admireable people are beautiful. Either inside or out. To question what you have done and live in regret means you question yourself. To question yourself makes your power not as strong.
Live with power, and beauty without regret.
The power to live
the beauty to intice
To regret makes you weak
Never doubt yourself, anything is possible if the mind is set to it, you cannot think for one second that you can't do it
Acceptance of who and what you are leads to your ability to gather power and utilise it.
People are naturally attracted to a strong aura or presence and this makes beauty.
To me it means, feeling the power, regardless what it is, the power to overcome what may come to you.
To be beautiful and bold inside. To love yourself, regardless of what you may look like to others. To know yourself truly.
To live life without regret, I mean you did whatever at the time for whatever reason right? Why regret it. Either make it right or move on.
to me it means, to be elegant an strong not weak, to be proud of are powers an where we stand in the naturil order of things
*coughs*
it... is... a... movie...
it... is... a... story...
why do people constantly take fiction ask 100% fact. and treat it as real.
this is getting really stupid
Gorey...dude...chill...out...please?
We are discussing a state of mind, whether it is borne from being a vampire or not is irrelevant...sheesh...
i am perfectly chilled.
actually... nevermind... nobody will probably listen.
carry on...
Well I wouldn't believe a movie but to me to be powerful, beautiful and without regret means:
To be yourself(powerful)
accept who you are(beautiful)
to admit your errors, the past is the past no need dwelling on it, and move on to the future(without regret)
To be Strong, Assuredly Decisive, But always aware of your own "mortality." As strong as we may be, we are not invincible. Beauty, Strength, Character, Elegance, and Wisdom.
I think this short verse taken from one of Longfellow's poems indicates the power of Vampires characterised by the fantastic imagery in Armand's words Dom Angelus. Where could more power be harnessed than in nature itself, or in the symbolic strength of an eagle?
"The day is done, and the darkness
Falls from the wings of Night,
As a feather is wafted downward
From an Eagle in his flight"
i think an immortal instinct deep within the spirit of man is thus plainly a sense of the beautiful, an excitement in the Soul so how could there ever be any regrets in a power and beauty so strong...
"Who through long days of labor,
And nights devoid of ease,
Still heard in his soul the music
Of wonderful melodies.
Such songs have power to quiet
The restless pulse of care,
And come like the benediction
That follows after prayer."
It means FICTION.
But if you want to take it seriously, it means BE LESTAT...
Let the copying begin.
Echo, I'm sure you and Gorey's thoughts are appreciated, but I believe we are only discussing what we feel are the symbolic meaning in those words of Lestat, the surrrealism behind them, the phantasmagoric value of that statement. I personally think it is a beautiful quote :) and I enjoyed the movie so much.
Im not syaing that the words souldn't mean anything, but I dont see why the book isnt being freffered to, instead fo the hollywood interpretation that everyone has discarded it for.
well fair enough. Im jus saying that there are so many other beautiful things in the world, and they aren't all to do with vampires.
To be powerful, beautiful and without regret, in my opinion, would have to be almost god-like. I don't really know how to explain it, but that was the first thing ot come to mind.
Considering this thread is referring to a movie about vampires, in the vampire section of a vampire forum on a vampire site...
... I don't see the point in needless criticism.
Yes,Echo of course there are other things which are beautiful, that's why I kept my toughts on things that have to do with life rather than vampires.
Infact if you noticed by being beautiful I didn't intedn it as the physical thing...:)
I pretty much agree with Daethnitegrl.
Powerful: To be awear of your capacities and do your best.
Beautiful: To be your self
Without regret: To admit your mistakes, try not to forget about them, not to whine about it but to learn from them, and preferably, not repeat them.
It takes on a whole larger meaning since they are vampires and many must live with regret or feel they must because they kill the things they once were to survive.
it means to be powerful, be beautiful, and dont have any regrets
You can take that quote and explain it in many ways. Some believe if you gain power then beauty will come from it but at a cost and so regret must be eliminated to keeps ones sanity and power. You can relate it to Vampires or any other culture you wish for it can carry across the spectrum .
I appreciate everyone who is sharing such wonderful thoughts. The goal here is not to clone any fictional characters, but to embrace the ideals of what would make us excel in life....be it your human or vampire life. We speak from the perspective of a Vampire for that is what many of us truly are, albeit not in the fictional sense, of course. I encourage those who wish to denigrate this way of life, to look a little closer and truly get to know some of us who wish to make this dark life beautiful and fulfilling.
