Do you think that todays culture would tolerate people acting like vampires, believing in vampires, telling their children about vampires like they're real? Where does culture and society draw the line? Would it be treated the same as emo/goth, or would this be something society would see as worse? Share your thoughts about this please.
I think the public awareness of the vampire move is still some what in the dark. For certain reasons, yet part of them come out in main stream events on TV.
Will this become a vital part in sub-culture acvross the world. It already has and may continue to grow as long as the myths and Movies still present themselves to add new people.
Losing ones self in vampirism is in all realms a hypothetical question for none can see the future. yet as individuals and families we still must work and survive in the "Real" world. so being totaly lost no not realy.
I think some things are becoming more acceptable in the later generations compared to the older ones. I don't know if the mindset in the future will change much. Perhaps slightly. I think if one is going to tell their children vampires are real should have a great understanding of what one is and proof of it, otherwise it is no different from telling your child Santa Claus is real (which i dont with my own). A lot of things are being misunderstood and misinformed so either way a person will always come to their own conclusions about the vampire culture by what they feel about it.
I guess the answer to that question would depend on what part of the world you live in.
People in some places need to take great care especially if they share their knowledge/beliefs with there children.
Social services tend to frown upon children being 'schooled' in certain belief systems, magic etc, I don't imagine vampirism would go down too well.
I think that it would be treated as emo/goth. Its different and people dont like different. Plus, it would also depend on the extent to which you go, for example - Only letting your kids go out at night, teaching them to drink blood, telling them its completely normal *rolls eyes*
And....maybe kids wouldnt want that inflicted upon them?
Sensationalism I'd say, I respect individuals in the "vampire community" that portray as normal, from here to then they dress up for ocassional festivities, and I respect their 'ideals' and more so the notion of the need for a substance to satiate a certain thirst, yet im not and will not look at them as if they were "vampires" i would've respect more the idea of "vampyrs" or "sanguinarians", for me its a way to look for attention more than anything, if they need that like they so much explain " We are not like the books and movies",then why need or act as if they were one of the books and movies themselves? why buy acrylic or plastics fangs? why dress or name yourself like one?, and tell others like how mystical they are and certain experiences of mystical things they have done? looks more like a call for attention than anything serious of the matters; they intend to portray and then respond "I know you will not understand, but thats how we are and we need it",That whole "Don Henrie" guy, thats the biggest ROLELAYER EVER! and people from the vampire community look up for him as a rolemodel of those sorts, seriously;Fake fangs, vampire clothing, and acting as such, more or less like the folklore version, just dont cry for respect and understanding. A normal individual, that doesn't seek for attention or claim to be a vampire and feel the need to drink blood have my understanding on his conviction more than the rest claiming themselves to be the modern adaptation of what really is one.
What's the point in telling your children vampires are real? It'll get their hopes up and set them in for disappointment when they're older and know better. It's better if some parents learn to shut their trap instead of trying to satisfy a curiosity that will inevitably lead to being a lie down the line.
I agree with ~MBK~ as well as ~Revenous~ on both their points. Now, when it comes to personal basis, if it interferes with me, or my family; those closest to me...I will then take it upon myself to test whomevers convictions, if it is within my power to do so.
I understand telling the child of what is said maybe the fictional aspect of vampires, but lets think of this, we do this even not relating to vampires but on other man made myths as the grow up. They have been around since i was a child.
Putting that aside I am looking at this from the aspect of an adult persay and the movement that is still going on nation wide with our societies on the "Vampire" culture.
I think revenous hit by saying this movement should have its own name, yet the mind of humans place them in the catogory which gives its name. The social aspect and life style say that they should be classed as vampires.
Much like a scientist who has many talents or aspects of the degree, we finally give them the class name of scientist what ever the field.
I think it is the aspect and choice in which we have to determine our bounds of fiction and fact on all realms of this planet from myths to science to faith. it is our own choice to make our lives the structure we wish.
I don't think society is ready for that.
I just wrote a paper on our society and their non-acceptance of gays. Our society is not a welcoming one. It took a very long time for women and African Americans to be treated equally and the kinks are still being worked out.
I think that people are genuinely curious if they're openminded. Most people that know I profess to be a real vampire have questions. But they don't invalidate my existence. Then again, I'm not a flashy vampire, as far as the whole lifestyle thing goes. I am what I am, and vampire is the label the world has assigned to it.
It's impossible to lose yourself in that which you are.
Nobody is labeling or saying what you are or proclaim to be, only yourself and your group. You may be someone with vampiric alike traits or characteristic that one can separate fron the "norm" even though that doesn't mean you are a one. Once again drinking blood doesn't make you anything different than the rest of us, just for that specific charasteristic or difference doesn't mean you are something else, just because im white and their is a black person beside me doesn't mean he is another specie of the human being, or if im sitting beside a vegetarian doesn't mean he is a different thing. Only yourself and your community think that if they drink blood and hate the sunlight, put some fake fangs and act as one, are such things.
As to this, I never heard such thing before, 10 years ago the only thing i heard of drinking blood was some santeria, occult and satanism cults that did it for ritualistic practices only( only with animals sacrifices), now a women write about "psi vampirism" and now everyone that drink a sort of blood, and doesn't like the sunlight thinks they are a "vampire" or yet awaking, people like; "ohh now i get it, i need to feed from a crowd to quench a certain thirst or I drink blood I mus tbe one" people need a reality check, if any of you like to receive respect form your condition then start acting like is a serious thing, dont go off putting a cape and buying fake fangs and tell everyone what you are, cause oyu only show how desperate you are for attention, I see all those videos of the "vampire community" and 'Don Henrie' spoke model of the vampire community, do you actually think he speaks for your "condition" modelling as he were a vampire, putting fangs, drinking blood, and putting make up, sleeping in a coffin, would you take that serious? would you think he is a "vampire" from the community when he is roleplaying in national television?
These societies have been here for numerous years, yet they kept under the radar of our culture. yet with the promant movies hitting the silver screen they seem to be inch out more and more.
Worse because vampires are seen as evil, no matter what anyone can say.
In addition many won't be even heard, let alone believed, certain people portray themselves to be omnipotent, so no wonder they are thought to be crazy.
Vampires are seen as evil, no matter what anybody else says? It is only you that keeps "thinking" that Vampires are evil. Have you personal met every vampire in the world, then how would you know that they are ALL evil?
And how can you say that many will not be heard and belived? Umm...This IS a vampire website.
Revenous. You said for the past 10 years you have never heard of anyone doing these things but does that really mean it hasn't been out there the entire time? No it doesn't. You see, people have a hard time opening up about themselves or even risk exposing certain things when others apparently get bashed for being the way they are naturally. It's not right of anyone to say, just because i haven't seen it, or felt it, or experience means it doesn't exist. There are people that are trying to prove things that once people didn't find possible. Wasn't the world flat at one time? It might be hard to grasp in our realities but sometimes that doesn't mean anything at all. For the past 12 Years i have befriended and dealt with the vampiric on many levels personally. I'm not the gullible type either. There are those that would be offended by being called fake and i don't blame them for keeping to the shadows.
depends on where you are, but I'm sure no matter where you are, telling your kids that and bringing them up that way would, as others said, likely get them taken away. Other than that issue, you'll probably get dirty looks and people trying to put you in an asylum.
Society holds the key to many of the no no's we cannot raise our kids with, yet perception of society and the outcasts have always been there. from the greasers in the 60's to punks and now a society with life structures on vampire traditions. yet they are still persicuted the same way these other groups have been.
~Sorvena~
First of, I didn't said fake i said the only one proclaiming as such is you and your community, Vampire is a nomenclature that startles anyone you tell that you proclaim to be , why? because everyone have a distintive idea of what a vampire is throughout all the media, lore, myth and books. You cannot adopt a historical figure that has his mysteries and specific charasteristic to compare with the "condition" you all call you have, how do you wish respect for this, IF your whole community act and roleplaying as the historical figure, do you think is something to take seriously when your Rolemodels and community are all using fangs and capes, and acting like is all a game? seriously you tell me or go to a vampire community club and see for yourself.
~Gordon~
As for this website to be a site for vampires only, go *******, if you have read the rules and guidelines it clearly states is a vampire site for vampire resource and directory, not roleplaying center. If it WAS a "vampire" site then half of the people here wouldn't be around to make this a swell website as it is.
Vampire Rave History in The VR Manual
"In April of 2002 Vampire Radio closed completely. It was around this time that I started thinking about a new direction for the Vampire Rave project. I decided to create an all-inclusive database-driven website that cataloged every occurrence of the vampire throughout history in all media formats."
Vampire rave FAQ
"1. What is VampireRave.com?
VampireRave.com is the largest online database about everything vampire. We endeavor to catalog everything and anything about vampires. "

NOW shut up.
Edit.. mysticmoon.. Revenous i have edited this post.... please watch your language in the forums, and be respectful of other members opinions , foul language will not be tolerated .
Idio, there is no compairing a sub culture to civil rights issue. Would you seek affirmative action for " vampires"?
You are right dabbler (good to see you back)
But discrimination of societies sub culture or fads have been dominant in all eras of history. and some of these have formed into rights movementts for equality.
You may see this within our time on this planet. we shall never know.
Well if we have 'sanguinarians' telling their kids they are vampires and will have kids saying: "momma why do you wear fangs and fancy clothes" and then young teenagers who wish to find 'Edward Cullen' kind of guys and asking in websites to get turned and all this roleplayers around saying what they are, all this new movies coming out, teen shows like degrassy-like programs of vampires. It wouldn't surprise me that we soon have parades and things of that sort, defending "vampires" or the modern adaptation of what the community proclaim to be such. Vampire image or to be "vampire: sang or psi" is the new shit, is the new emo, the new sensation of the block.
AS FOR THIS:
"You said for the past 10 years you have never heard of anyone doing these things but does that really mean it hasn't been out there the entire time? No it doesn't. You see, people have a hard time opening up about themselves or even risk exposing certain things when others apparently get bashed for being the way they are naturally. It's not right of anyone to say, just because i haven't seen it, or felt it, or experience means it doesn't exist. It might be hard to grasp in our realities but sometimes that doesn't mean anything at all. For the past 12 Years i have befriended and dealt with the vampiric on many levels personally."
I have been enrolled in many of the occult when young age in my early teen years by curiosity, i never did any of the stuff but i had friends, and ive met plenty santeria practitioners and voodoo & satanist people withing a cult, there are things that you feel in the enviroment when being around a sacrificial altar of them yet the things they do are in any matter "vampiric" are for ritualistic practices/purpose only, after about what 6 years after I met again to say my "hi's" and stuff, and i find the surprise that many of them now think they are in a sort of way a "vampire" from the sorcery post to "vampire" persona and i know this is the self indentification of it not something they awake and all the othe rbullshit, right after this all "Michelle Belanger" book of bullshit came, and everyone start freaking coming out of the closet with their halloween costume, thinking that because they have some empathic abbilities or a sense of something they can't explain her books can tell you what you are. now every median, psychic and individuals of that sort thing they are psi vampires, and the sang people think they are sang vampires. I don't have anything against anyone beliefs im just talking out loud and straight forward to tell you how it is, and how is going to be. You said 12 years you have dealt with this "vampiric" things, "vamipiric" is a word you gave to something you did before without an proper understanding or nomenclature, just because someone named it "vampiric", doesn't mean everything falls down to that case, just something you let another person name your practices. As for thats why they didn't came out before, thats obvious, if you drink blood or tell to the community that you drink blood is obvious noone will understand, but telling others you are a vampire, makes it worse, dressing as a halloween one is even worserer, some things are meant to keep in doors, caus ewe live in a culture of a patriarcal and ideological ruling and such things are meant to stay occult, furthermore santeria, satanism and voodoo they all hide their practices from books, media and public exposure 'cause those individual know the degree of controversy they will be leading with.
you keep bringing up capes and fake fangs but nobody is saying there are use of those. i don't know any of those people. sorry but it's true. when i said i spent 12 years dealing with these things they certainly don't involve people that claimed to be, but eventually they opened up to me about it and they most certainly don't go around wearing a fake anything that was meant for halloween. -.- sheesh calm down.
I think in my part of the world people would view it as just another group of subculture like emo, goth, punk, and such. Most would not comprehend it at all. A few would view it as a psychological dissorder. I fear if ever anyone found out that someone who was a parent had made any claim of vampirism they would have thier children taken away. It would be viewed as more exceptable in youth, although possibly believed to be connected with drugs of course. Even now in this modern age I don't believe humans are capable of understanding, and in some cases, unwilling. I do feel we are getting closer to the time when vampires are viewed for what they truly are, and less of monsters or psychological dissorders.
~Sloverna~
"you keep bringing up capes and fake fangs but nobody is saying there are use of those. i don't know any of those people."
This is a video of the main influence /rolemodels in the media about the modern adaptation of vampirism. Don Henrie, Michelle Belanger and the whole community speaking, this is what you reflect as serious, when you speak of your "vampirirc condition"?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcHYymAQZsw&feature=related
I might add, i do not discard the possibility of the need of another substance for your alleged 'condition' but i dont agree the term you and others use to adress to this matters, less let people think they are what this women wrote about "psi vampirism" and "no one will understand us, but thats how we are" and bullshit..
Here is more of the nonsense..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxlQiIpuBxA&feature=related
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqpEpnNDoK4
There are plenty of more videos where they dress and put fangs on.. do I need to post more to show you what i mean?..
*Chuckles* I am still laughing with you ~Revenous~, throughout this entire thread you seem to have a sore spot for those "lifestylers" out there. I commend this. As fact in modern society, the average individual who was beaten as a child, ridiculed, trampled on by their peers, made fun of, outcasted etc. Become in time something that regular society deems nessessary to call "differant." Just because the individual thinks of themselves as dark natured, does not make them a "creator of the night." Blah blah blah.
While I do agree that there is no real such thing as the vampire, mythological being who is immortal or whathaveyou, by definition...Does not mean that there are not those individuals out there, this meaning a very select few mind you. That cannot go about life "feeding" off of others to remain in a healthy state. This healthy state being either mentally, physically, or spiritually. Mentally and physically taken with a grain of salt.
Most characteristics that are emulated in modern society that stem from the folkloric nature of the beast (vampire), are there out of pure sensationalism and attention seeking. I do agree with this whole heartedly. But I would also like to add that with some individuals, even though they do seem as though they are attention seeking with the fake fangs, does not mean they do not have a right to let society know of their "true" nature. This is their perogative, let them have it. They only humiliate themselves.
Who is society to judge the individual on what type of characterists they have and proudly display them openly? Is society that hell bent on bringing one another down that they forget the one common factor? We are all flesh and blood regardless of what ANYONE thinks. The nature of the beast (vampire) is just that, a nature, miscue and misinterpret the definition of "nature" all you wish, I will give you a cookie after you are done.
All in all, those who do uselessly "loose" themselves should get their heads out of their asses and just live life. I am just tired of all the B.S. that has come from the almighty "I am a vampire" kids that think they know the crap from the community and dont know a G*D Damned thing about it.
I agree completely on your post ~Soulshroude~ but when you have this running everywhere, this women writting about "vampirism", intermingling and supporting the roleplayers and vampire "lifestylers", and at the same time talking about a serious matters, who will take your or any other word for fact or even a ear for it? when you have half of the community saying such things and playing like little kids in the street and TV shows, specially those; Adult program such as: National Geographic, Maury, Jerry Springer, Tyra Banks, etc.. The very eyes of the world, the show every or most mature audience watch in America and the world and they dress up, put fangs and even come to the show in coffins, Seriously if I go to one of those show as a werewolf and say; "I am a werewolf". and put hair all over me and tell everyone" I am one take me seriously", would you believe me? would you even give me the benefit of the doubt? They want to speak of this is something to be taken seriously but non of them take it serious as a fact.
As for the nomenclature of a vampire, you can't just take what is already been taken by the almighty myth to explain something you relate/correlate to your needs, traits or condition, its just not going to happen. Everybody now a days proclaiming as such and i repeat as up there, had this same rituals or normal practices in occult or personal life rites, but never called themselves vampire until the early 90's when someone decided to write about it, name it as such, consecuently adopt such name as ancient and latent image in people minds as Vampire.
wow, We need people like Revenous closed to us. Vampirism is a secrect society and will be a secrect society. Many years ago, when the goth generation was starting, many people saw them as "devils people". Today, they are just a new generation with their owm culture. Vampires are not different. And by the way, There are no fangs in Vampires. I do know that I wll get a surprise respond for what I just said. The biting of the neck, was created by hollywood. Remember, just because you don't believe or because you never saw the actual event, does not mean it not exist. Life is full of surprises, specially for those who do not believe in the unknown.
Revenousness....I'm not saying i disagree with things you have said but what I am saying is that the people i have encountered over the years wasn't open about those things until they felt more comfy in talking about them. They don't go around wearing fake fangs and such. As for those that do install fangs, i think it's just a simple expression of their inner selves wanting to come out. I don't think all of them do it for attention. The attention isn't always that great trust me. Most the time people will give you nasty looks and whatnot but i'm not gonna make them feel bad for wanting to express themselves how they wish to. I don't think going around saying 'i'm a vampire' is really going to have anyone take you seriously. The best impressions, for me, came from people that could actually show me themselves in the most believeable ways.
Everything happens for a reason. Harry Potter and Charmed softened the public's response to witchcraft, making it easier for witches to be more open about their religious practices. Whilst it is still not 'common place' to learn about such things in a general public setting; it doesn't receive the gasps of fear that it did say 20 years ago.
So too, may the new-breed TV vampire (Twilight, Moonlight, True Blood etc) be having the same effect on public perception.
As a mother, I intend to raise my children with a healthy interest in all things occult, hidden and underground. Ignorance is fiercely denied in my household and whilst I wont be encouraging them to believe without doubt that these things exist, I don't want them to be so narrow minded that they immediately deny anything they do not understand.
I believe you will find more and more parents discussing the alternative cultures with their children, pathing a way for more available discussion of such topics without the eye rolls and name calling.
~Lippy
MMmmm sorry to break the spell, we are real..
I am a real Vampire...
what does that mean?
Good question...
My DNA and blood count is not human. well not normal ...
I am still part human, but you are food...
I do not feel like you do, but I have a memory of it...
If I do not feed I get very ill...
I get what I call Mettallica...a blood lust..
It gets worse and worse...day by day...
I hate light and have excellent night vision...
Heart rate exceeds 120 even lying on a bed...
Blood tastes very different...not like blood...like honey..
It is a very, very powerful addiction, forget drink and drugs, when I,m on lust I shake...so now you know..
I call your B.S. ~Jazmanflash~, for some very simple reasons:
You claim to be calling yourself vampire, then want to prove to all of us here on the Rave that you are what you claim to be...Why? Whats your point, what is it that you think you will get in return? Noteriety?
DNA and blood count, not human or mayhaps...Not normal? Where are you getting off saying this B.S.? Do you have the regular medical records to show the validity of these claims? Again, why do you state this...For noteriety? To say "hey, I am differant then the rest of you?"
You do not feel like the rest of society? Ok, I can understand this, and mayhaps relate to it...But, is it emotional sensations, or physical? A memory? Like what, de-ja-vu? Must be quite melancholic for you...
If you do not feed you tend to get quite ill? Of course you would. If I did not have breakfast, lunch or dinner I would feel just the same as you would. Or are you talking about what the typical vampire needs to feed from? Oh wait, you are claiming the stereo-typical response "sanguine."
Blood tasting like honey eh? Now, in your case...How the hell would you know what blood really tasted like if it all "just" tastes like honey to you?
Remember, there are vampires out there that do watch what is said within these forums. Someone like me would come along and mayhaps crash and burn someones response; not to get a rise out of them, but to want to prove a point. If you are going to walk the walk, at least first and foremost, get to know the subject matter and the area of life before you roleplay into the walk itself. Some of us are tired of being insulted by roleplayers that think they know the territory.
We have nothing to prove...Why should you?
*chuckles* I like the; "you are the food* part..I feel like a burger..This is what I meant with everything i have said in all my posts above. This is why you are all pointed with the same finger. People seriously need to read what they write before clicking the post button, it's humiliating. Just my opinion.
Jazman demonstrates well how peaple take subcultures and fringe communities to use as ego if he was on a poetry site he would claim to be a laurette or bard perhaps even attempt to pass the works of others as his own, what excuses he would have if invited with all expenses paid to account for his boulder dash fine example of an individual losing themselve to mythos. I bet if past aqaintances were interviewed it would be discovered that he was once an abrasive roleplayer that said " what if vampires were real ?" alot . An attempt to impress? Perhaps an attempt to generate responses that can be interpreted as persicution, he may even impress a few minors or be humored as a novalty by some young adults. A phase one would hope.
Which is why i mentioned that people shouldn't be so open in forums about saying 'i'm a vampire' cuz people here will attack you. *rolls eyes* I guess what most are saying is, if ya gonna claim to be something other than 'norm' according to their viewpoints, you have to have something to back it up.
Inrespect to you, Sorvena. I think it is kindof hard for someone to post their 'life experience', if wanting to back it up with. I mean is that, when somebody really wants to post anything to prove themselves, they would find it hard to post on details of thier experiences. Just my viewpoint.
lol I think they want like a copy of their medical stats posted in their profile somewhere. I don't know but it's silly really. Why should people that are possibly physically different wanna show you guys anything at all? I think that should be only shared with people they trust and know instead of those that are hardcore on tearing someone down. That's just my opinion. You are never gonna have anyone share themselves on here with others, and no one is going to ever know more unless there are people open to things on this site. If you can't be open or at least allow someone to prove it to you, you can't go around attacking them right off the bat. Just play nice and say...."hey i don't wanna come off an ass or anything but, i'm interested in your statement and would like to know more and could you possibly show me or share with me something about that?" I think a calmer approach above all else , is more gained in the end.
Losing oneself in vampires?
Would this be like roleplaying and never come out of the fantasy of the character potrayed?
Society in all realms looks for the fantasy of life to give them something in which real life has become blah or not exciting, and yet others who believe in such things due to the realms in which they feel is the best explanation to detrmine the structure of their life.
~Sorverna~
"Which is why i mentioned that people shouldn't be so open in forums about saying 'i'm a vampire' cuz people here will attack you. *rolls eyes* I guess what most are saying is, if ya gonna claim to be something other than 'norm' according to their viewpoints, you have to have something to back it up."
How can you expect to someone believe such claims less a post as ~jazmanflash~ Believe me when you said :
"You are never gonna have anyone share themselves on here with others, and no one is going to ever know more unless there are people open to things on this site. If you can't be open or at least allow someone to prove it to you, you can't go around attacking them right off the bat"
Do you think this is not enough to judge:
RE:"My DNA and blood count is not human. well not normal ...
I am still part human, but you are food...
I do not feel like you do, but I have a memory of it..."
Blood tastes very different...not like blood...like honey..
It is a very, very powerful addiction, forget drink and drugs, when I,m on lust I shake...so now you know.."
Yeah, now i know how much you need a grip...Honey? seriously?...that makes me a walking pancake..
I had friends that claim the same, I have done that you said, and they have shown me what they meant with their claims and i know when i judge because i am for one that judge in base of substancial currency and literary feedback of everyone point before pointing my finger. If "vampire" for me is something that i know and think you are not what is the logical/"in stone" concept to be one then you are not one, simply because you think you have a charasteristic or two of the conceptualization/"modern adaptation" of one, doesn't support anything, I might understand the whole needing of something as I posted before, and even give you the benefit of the doubt, but i will not let anyone change the image or challenge any understanding of one unless you change the meaning of it, It is as if I made a totally different character out of something and just have something from it and say is like that and everything before is wrong, You are all humans sorry to break it, but drinking blood or exchanging "pranic energy" doesn't make you anything else, and their is nothing the fangs, clothes and coffing going to do to reinforce such claims, but as for the case of our friend up there", not saying that you do or need to show in your profile as "documentation pertaining to it will back up any claim"Cause there is none unless you have the charasteristic of a literal one.
Worth noting is how solevana and jazman have contributed nothing to the topic. The cross talk is an obvious userption. Clear dialogue once again degresses into a grand standing opurtunity for fanatics who press illogic claims while posting veiled insults to those who dont cater and coddle them, ss makes a point noiterity as well as a desire not for tolerance but reverance by proxy is sought here a suspect behavior indeed.
I've got to be completely honest here. I would love nothing more than for someone to be able to prove to me their Vampiric nature. And I mean really prove it, drinking a cup of blood proves nothing - fetishists do this all the time.
If there was something solid that proved you were not-quite-human, I would be embarrassingly excited to see it.
Sometimes I think it would actually be TOO easy for me to "lose myself in vampirism" even though, I, myself am not a vampire. [at least not to my knowledge ;)]
~Lippy
Hey Dabblerenaface, I DID add my piece above if you scrolled up at all and add yourself to that list of crosstalk and nothing to add :P
Society has never accepted the vampiric nature as good or acceptable. But through out history vampiric story's have continued and will continue in the future, regardless of the cynical ideologies of a few people.
True Doru,
No matter who may say what the ideology and the myths on ever level will continue to be a part of our society and those of others cultures.
it seems to always prevail at times and other times it goes dormant. Just lik some of the iealogies of all races and technology.
i think people would react to it much like they would if you said you were a pagan or wiccan 20 years ago.
raised eyebrows and a muttered ooooookaaaaay then.
but once they get to know you, people tend to treat you like other people....and your own actions influence it.
as for wearing capes....i do sca for that LOL
~W~
The point is...Vampires are differant then the roleplaying portrayal. Just as ~Jazman~ claims is roleplay alone. There are certain individuals in society that are a triple helix rather then the jacobs ladder DNA double helix. But the triple helix does not mean the individual is more then human or higher on the so called food chain then the average individual is.
Human is human, humanoid. Homo-sapien; homo-erectus. Hell, there is also a term known as "homo-vampirus." Kingdom philum something or another. But all in all it is just another name for humanoid.
Hell, if an alien race decided to stake a claim here on earth and other humanoids were to be so drawn into that alien race...Would this make those humanoids want to be part of that alien race so badly that they would start acting the part? Worked with Alien Nation. Remember that series?
We are not trying to be the antagonist with those who claim to be something they really are not. We simple wish to garner some intelligent answers that surround the individual whether it be from paperwork, or other simple clarification. If you wish to act the fool, this is your perogative.
Just dont get upset when you seem to drive a stake through your heart by stating that you are not as human as the rest of society. I have paperwork to prove that I am differant then the rest of society when it comes to physical specimen as well as other "qualities" that make me differant. But this in itself does not make me vampire. the word vampire is just a name given for those who either do not understand what we are, or do not comprehend the gravity of what we are.
We are nothing special. Just because we age a bit slower then the rest of the world does not mean that we are immortal. We still perish. Just because we have differant capabilities does not make us better or worse then the average individual...You could call it a handicap of sorts. This again, does not make us special, better or worse then society.
Give it a break already.
Answer to questions that have no answers.
Much like someone questioning the thoughts of Darwin when his therios came to be. Or the discovery of dinasours to prove different idealogies of humans train of thought.
Role playing is one thing, yet personal belief in the structure of life is another. whether you wish to be a scientist, politician or class your self as a witch or wicca or vampire is lost because the others who belief in one idealogy to another can not understand the thoughts of another. they can prove we live yet beliefs and tructure they still can not sway.
I am me, whether my life runs with logic or belief somewhere in life the thoughts of others evade us, yet if we do not bow to others belief than our thoughts are wrong. or are they.
I am not vampire. I look to myths and lore and structure of social effects of culture promanint in our world. yet all i see latley is asking for questions that no one can answer only on beliefs or structure and no proof, yet the coin flips both ways show that this society beliefs are lies. we ask questions to find answers true yet when questions are on belief than undestand the answer is on belief.
But one losing themselves in the vampire culture is like many who lose themselves with online games or web sites for dating.
Yet they are not so much talked about because society in some aspects deem them norm for today. Yet cultures that do not fit the laws of the culture are still dismissed as fads our rebels of todays society.
Cadre that is called escapism, and when such things are enjoyed rationally can be entertaining. When things progress to people posting veiled insults aimed at those who can tell when a person is irrational or lost in a fantastical persona.
I know, and many people get lost in the state, wether its vampires or peter pan. and many could find them with straight jackets on.
But role playing and some structure within the realms of life are totaly different persona of Society. Now going out and killing for blood or some of the feets held within movies. yes get checked out.
But lets look back at the Matrix movie and the legion that followed after it came out, and even kids dressing or acting like them. even trying to evade bullets. Come on role playing is total different than I believe that there is spirits in everything on earth and i sit and talk with them to relax. my religion or belief. so know am I insane on this or just because of the fact that people make Vampires as hereos in their life and not scientists or hollywood stars or athlets.
You ask: "Do you think that todays culture would tolerate people acting like vampires, believing in vampires, telling their children about vampires like they're real? Where does culture and society draw the line? Would it be treated the same as emo/goth, or would this be something society would see as worse? Share your thoughts about this please."
Which culture? In some, you'd get stoned or burned alive in your hut if you were so much as suspected of vampirism.
As for the Western culture....the day it accepts vampirism as part of the norm, will be the day it collectively looks itself in the mirror and faces it's own reflection. Society is vampiric in nature. It just doesn't like to be reminded of it.
in regards to people accepting vampiric behavior i have one thought...
today we have serial killers who mangle bodies, we have cult leaders who rape and molest children, we have terrorists who wipe out civilizations of people
now think...would vampiric behavior really be that bad? i think not
Well not nuts but misinterpreted, being goth or "vampire" is just a way to label yourself or let other label yourself, you deside to portray that image, you dress and give them the reason to think as such, you might say you like the style and in a fashion sense, but some dig in to much in their little world, that their gothness, vampireness over way pass the style, when they actually think and believe they are unlike any other person or think they are actually different, we saw that here in a earlier post, to do that is to call for attention through controversy. People will be people and will judge by looks and i know this 'cause i know at hand, i don't dress black or anything like that, but tattoos and piercings still pretty much judged too, but who cares, only the ones that give mind of what people think of them are the ones insecure of what they are. And that shows alot about an individual. Everything can be detected by the body language, a single expression with the eyes and brows can tell you alot of what someone is thinking and without words, people just let it get to them.
Revenous,
Can I ask do we label ourselves or is it society who labels us? For we see in society that labels have been put on everything that can be labeled.
Middle Class, uppper class, politicians and what party, scientists all ranges yet is still deemed scientist. Teachers, workers food. animals.
Some examples, and yet some where we have lost the norm and raticle sides of culture. For everything is put into simple structures just by looks, race, religion.
Society deems that if you wear black, hair a certain way,act a ceertain way than you fit this label.
I'm not going to read everything but there is enough bickering in the community itself over some of these issues. Now if we are talking about the walking revenant or undead of mythology and telling our children they are real then that would be up to the individual belief system and the families in question.
I find it funny that so many use the same yardstick to identify what a vampyre is or a book and allusions to people the book is supposedly inspired from which has nothing to do with the storyline anyway and has become an urban legend.
There are more than kids in the vampyre community and most do not drink blood. Sanguins are a minority. We have people like Don Henrie because of the intermixing of goth and fetish cultures with the vampyre subculture in modern times. It is just an aesthetic and also their liking of the mythical vampire that everyone is so anxious to talk about here. Fashion vamps, lifestylers as many call some are also a minority and some are teenagers that emulate and will outgrow the fancy in later years. There will always be others who will not tell of involvements, Houses you know nothing about and secret organizations around. Some are coming out of the woodwork due to more organization from those who are serious about what they are and are old and been around long before the Black Veil or any of that modern stuff that is taken for granted to be what it is all about. Each region is different and to boldly lump that all together when there are literally thousands of people world wide that have this belief and some for more than 40 years is a little presumptious. There are many who believe they are such and are not. Drinking blood is not a given that you are one, it is more than that which I will not go into here. Some things mentioned apply to anyone, shrugs. That means nothing and it is unexplainable to those who are not of this subculture and belief and feel something more and yes, they will tell their kids in some cases.
The popularity of books like Twilight made into movies have caused many to want to be like characters and this will always be the case, those who become obsessed by something mysterious. This is an easy way for some to mix in with those of this ilk. You think everyone wants to stand up and say hey...I raise my hand look at me? This is simply not the case. Yet the subculture has essentially been invited here due to what the Home page says and they stay in the background when they realize the majority of people here are going to demean them. It doesn't require anyone's belief, it just is and no amount of bickering can change this aspect. Every culture has some form of dress or style that represents a group but that doesn't mean it has anything to do with the group itself. The Amish and others wear clothes from older times, it is just part of their belief system but not the belief itself...there is a difference. Some have mixed things from the mythos and what they believe themselves to be, so what. The majority you would not recognize unless they have taken on the aesthetic but as I said you have different people mixed altogether which may be a good thing or bad. Seventy-five years from now it will probably be something different. Extremists and loonies have always existed and attach themselves to something they think is mysterious or cool and nowadays they set up websites with a lot of misinformation.
I think even with Twilight, Moonlight, TrueBlood, etc, that society has no idea that subcultures or practices of vampirism, psi or sang, really exist. I think society views these things more as teenagers wanting to become vampires and dressing up at Halloween or being in love with Cullen. I don't think it would be between becoming accepted or not, because you're still going to have tons of people that object to everything.
Why even tell people, because it is something private?
Maybe eventually more people will become aware of practices, but truly ever accepted? I seriously doubt it. Our society as a whole cannot agree on anything, with religions intertwining in those reasons as well.
It all depends on what country you live in. Some countrys wouldnt take it good if your thought your kids something that they didnt want you to.
Then there is the fact that most people would say that you told your kids a lie (As if christianity isnt a lie??) Ad this up and you would get a real hard time by the social system
So it is reasonable to inquire how an indivdual ammends the dominate definitions of vampire. Even the community has a critiria I am sure.
Profession is sometimes pretense.
well said dabbler,
Critira of vampire or what the public deems to be vampiric is such the case. much like anything the society wants to fit into certain catorgies to culture.
I find those who identify as vampires that berate, and sneer at role players, and people they deem close minded to be with no reasoning, as well as irrational, how they take something so seriously ( as if a threat) is very telling. I am sure that even subcultures have outcast, as well as those who insist on pushing the envelope past fringe. Is it " tolerance" they seek? I tend to doubt that in a majority of cases.
i believe tht vampires are real and tht ppl should be told about them and see them as a culture i mean ppl shouldnt judge you for what you believe in and if you believe in vampires then everyone shold back the heck off and let you alone cuz vampires are freaking awesome they walk and live forever
Yet they actually sneer at role players ( their pet name is Larpers). They are also demoan of any cinamatic portrail of vampires as " Fake".
Make sweeping references to vampires being a historically evidenced actuality..
This behavior really makes a case for the hypntism thread.
Well stated ~Dabbler~, at times I do find the Rper's rather irritating, but then again I find their compliments to be amusing. I mean, to see others portray what walks in front of them is the ultimate compliment. The supreme form of flattery.
Such practices, as well as application of the nomiclature should be considered by those who wish to be distinct from such fad behavior.
To assume, or ignore the diversity, and variations within any subculture is to invite fads to userp ( and misrepresent by proxy) all that us the same " umbrella" all that is lacking is a comprehensive summary of reasoning behind the individuals claim. It is not a belief that they are vampires that they seek, it is conviction, and " acceptance" of their vague, on reasoned claim.
Along with a percent who are mocking those who identify as vampires by subversion, and undermining.. Not to spook any irrationalist!
Eh, screw acceptance...If society does not like the individual, it is simply up to that individual to ignore the dislike of society. Convictions lay in the heart of what the individual believes, yes...But on the other hand, the individual does not need to justify their validation for who and or what they are vs claiming to be...Since it cannot be helped in the first place; therefore...Screw society and its begrudging ways.
Now, those lost to the "vampire community"; those who take it way to seriously and completely out of context, let them humiliate themselves...They will soon learn from their mistakes.
Correct, but then their abrasive, confronting behavior relating to the sever priority they place on their fringe identity, those with established society are " mud flung" by such fanatical ejaculations as " You are Food!" and "I must Break the spell" all insulting, by proxy anyone who hears such foolishness will likely generalize all who identify as vampire.
When the intent of those who avow being somehow more than human is obviously revealed to be nothing more then an attempt to place others beneath them, and to attempt to confuse and blur logic, they eventually are confronted.
Wow..This is a good topic. Is more like a Jury case. The defendant: The Vampires. The accusers: The Unbeliever. So, The vampires to win their freedom, they must present proof after proof. But, the accusers already made their minds, so, why spend the time: GUILTY!! There always will be Vampires and there always will unbeliever. and there always will be a topic about it.
Not proof, just reasononing behind the claims.
Is it not rather defaulted that the existence of vampires is illogical, and irrational. Why don't those who adopt the nomeclature just get a new name for themselves, or at least relieze that it is all pretend, if no reasonable ammendment to existing definitions is excepted no one will ever " understand" people who snicker at rational rejections of such pathetic claims.
Even in court the Claimant must reason their position. All I hear is " Oh no one understands us, they think we are like those mythological creatures.. Blah blah blah.. "
This video is the Holy Grail of this subject, and is the best way to describe all that I said above, for those that profess to be such ting as "vampire", Even the voice of your community say herself what they are..

Aaron made me laugh when he described the Masquerade as "vampire parchisi." What a ham...
He couldnt think of a better analogy then that? Makes one think if he is amongst those who lost themselves in the vampirism long ago, gotta hand it to him for turning the "dark world" into a fad.
Individuals that followed or still follow Aarons influencial society and called or still call themselves "allies that follow the black veil" in my honest opinion...Are simply followers and morons to make myself perfectly clear.
Just another version, an immensily upgraded version of the Masquerade. Props to Aaron for creating a whole 'nother sub culture full of larpers. Now THIS is what it is to loose oneself in vampirism.
Dont get me wrong, we are out there...The trueblood of the world. Not the trueblood that you see on the telly mind you. But the real deal. I wont go into the specifics of our "nature", but we are NOT, I repeat NOT part of the "strigoi" foundation community. Hell, we dont even call ourselves a community. We belong to differant parts of society. Even US politics. But no, we are not the so called "vampire community" that is seen on the telly.
Look back at History and the sub cultures that came to be, and the fight to fit in society. Vampires or those who claim to be or the life style what ever. Call them Vampuman society.
Rights to be free and practice the style of life they choose. The battles of history once again played out on beliefs and faith.
Except for the part about the "faith", you carry a good point ~Cadrewolf~, but under the circumstances; I dont think faith plays a role in this. Belief? Mayhaps... Faith? I dont think so. Vampirism, the last time I checked religious politics, was not on the list. Mayhaps in the future, but once again; it would be crossing a very thin line between religion and an excuse for being accepted.
Soul~ correct I was just using a blanket statement for the faith concept. For Vampirism a sub-culture or movement based on ideas and principals of the vampires. so faith would lend me too the faith in the structure not faith as in religion aspect..
Understandable since half those "kids" out there that like to "lose" themselves within the concept of the nature of the vampire, would be deemed to have that misguided "faith" in the vampiric structure no matter how unstructured it seems.
More people spend time professing their conviction, then offering reasoning for their adopted identity nomeclature. Just casually professing to be a vampire, then going right into the "We are so miss understood." or "Not vampires like in the Myth." (which implies that the person would have reasoning their amended definition.
Nice catch ~Dabbler~, you have my point exactly what I have been saying since day one yet again. Those who self profess the qualities, trademarks, and or attributes of the vampire...Yet still shed no light as to why they deem themselves justifiable.
I can claim I am vampire until the sun comes up next October, but that still does not convince others of my tanacious convicitions.
Though in conjecture to your post, I can say that a couple of those out there that do profess to claim said nomeclature could provide proof, but still hold said proof to "eyes only", and have valid reason for doing so.
Therefore, it would still add to more speculation and inquiries as to where this "proof" was obtained from as well as bringing said "proof" to the table for all to witness.
Though, what if this "proof" were confidential and not easily obtained no matter how the individual persisted?
I understand that actually, fadist seek such discloser to back their prop interest. It is the same as "shallow" Unstudied Christians of questionable devotion (Social Converts the church calls them) making pious claims of "God talking to .." or " I have been personally blessed."
Fad peels of subculture, and subcultures are misrepresented by Fadist. Who want all the notirity, with none of the formality.
I hear that...
Much of the fadists, as you prefer to entitle them, do seem to be hell bent on saying here I am with infinite instagetory actions such as standards of apparel as well as the "see me now" approach.
One big ego trip and "self rightious indignation" for those who seem to agrue about their standard of approval.
Seems appropriate enough, even within this judgemental day and age.
That and the Implication that people are some how "Afraid of accepting their assumed identity." rather then the more likely reaction of people just not being as entertained by their shallow role adaptation, that they so redundantly insist is not "Like those role player scum.."
As population grows each culture will grow but there will be the fall of decency and goodness of culture among the peepal, they will lose light side goodness but the sickness and strain and stress will grow. Carelessness towards other will grow.
I am true to myself, and still they judge me.
I follow my heart, yet am condemned as a freak.
They hate me and they revile me.
They make no effort to understand.
Give me the strength to overcome their smallness.
Give me the wisdom to rise above.
Fear is the seed of their hatred.
I must accept myself regardless of how others feel.
I will not let their misunderstanding daunt me.
I will not let their prejudice keep me from who I am.
I am stronger than all of their narrow opinions.
Throughout all hardship, my soul will endure.
How about the ability to summarize, and Articulate the reasoning for your professed idea?
See people who make bold general statements then claim to be misunderstood seldom offer any reasoning to support their conclusion.. You conclude that you are. Vampire.. Correct? So what reasoning do you use? I am ready to be informed..
Fads come and go, through out our recorded history we have seen this promant. yet some fads become living parts of our culture in life. (sub-cultures).
They form and change with the times and no longer hold the term of a fad but a living culture within a culture.
Now with religions, movements, vampire movement politics and science-have shown that they adapt and keep moving on. Some things we ponder on actuality of the movement to find reasoning within the doors of this, yet some degrees will never be shown or proved. Not plasible.
so they will always hold questions on why and what for.
Much like fraternal groups within our society the reasoning and some of the meaning has been lost due to evolving with the times. the old ways and structure has adpapted to the recent times.
