The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

Has anyone read the Necroscope series of books by this man they are awesome in the tory and even have a trick twisty ending that is great...the powers and abilities and the way the vampires are able to use there powers is very well thought out and the history that goes into the books is good. What do u people who have read these books think of them???

An excellent series of books by a superb author. These books take a totally different look at what vampires are and where they came from. HIGHLY reccommended. Apparently, none of his books are in the database. I may have to rectify that, later. :-)

I have read most of the Necroscope series (are my favorite) and now I have to read the last two of the series (Defilers and Avengers).
Lumley has an amazing way to combine modern and ancient times, secret services, alien worlds and of course above all the Vampires!
Also he has a very resonable explanation of the source of a kind (if we can say so) of vampirism and all things that associated with the various legends!

I only ever got around to reading the first book in the series but I loved it. I've been meaning to read the others. Also it was a very interesting take on necromancy; having to sift through the entrails.

I have read the series, and was very impressed with Brian Lumley-he is a pfolific writer, and handles horror very deftly...and he has several other series as well, as well a couple of short story collections

i have read the first three books and i think he has done a great job. and he put a nice twist on the vampyre as well

I am always amazed when people say they haven't heard of this series, which in my opinion is the best of them all(including Anne Rice). People get out there and read these. You won't be disappointed.

A very good series, I've just finshed reading it for the second time around. I would recommend it to any one to would like to read them to go ahead a read it, just might have a hard time finding the books, the first 5 is out of publish and you have to really look for them. So good luck and I hope eveyoone gets a chance to read them.

I saw this post AFTER responding to other Lumley one...heh Mea Culpa. In any case, I put up a partial listing of the series (can't remember all the titles). All are available in paperback, and all are still in print (last I checked). One word of warning: If you are of the "Anne Rice" fans, you will not like these most likely. Lumley's vampires are NOTHING like Rice's pretty boy, hide in the shadows, mincing little wimpy vamps. His are walking, manifested darkness...with all that entails.

Great read. Im still trying to find the rest of the series.. but what I have read, I was hooked instantly.

I've read several of these but I believe it is only the first 5 that are truly part of the Necroscope. Is there abyone who can verify or refute this as I am curious.

I LOVE Brian Lumley's Necroscope series. Harry Keogh is one of my all time favorite characters. I have read all 14 books, and I'm really looking forward to reading the 15th.

I own all of his Necroscope books, I've been trying to collect them in hardcover, so far I only have the last 7 in HC. Eventually.... :-) I also have the Necroscope comics, needles to say an entire shelf in my bookcase is dedicated to Lumley!

I have read the first few and love them. So i am currently trying to get the others to read.

I have a couple of those books, and haven't really took to reading them yet. I get so caught up in my Chelsea Quinn Yarbro books. Author awesome author btw. I will actually take that book to bed w/me tonight to start it. THank you.

Very good series of books.

LumlEy is a self confessed Lovecraft Fan and has written a number of stories including Titus Crow in Lovecrafts Style as well, which I'd go so far as to say are BETTER then Lovecraft.

The Necroscope is an exellent concept, very unusual, I don't think I've read anything along quite the same lines.

As an un-connected auther, I also really enjoyed "Stake" by Richard Laymon, another interesting take on Vampies, with a nice little "is she, isn't she" twist right upto the very end!!!

I started Vampyres last night. So far so good. Great authors that have come across this list.

I was an avid fan of Lumley for many years, and have read the entire saga (Which is now some ten plus books in the writing)
His take on vampirism is extremely dark, and very inhumane, which fits a lot of concepts of the darker shade of saguinarian vampirism. There are mirrors of it in the Tzmisce clan of White Wolf's game books of "The Masqerade"... but they do not hold a candle to the Wamphyri of Lumley's mind. These inhuman creatures spawn from non-human things in swamps.... and use humans for EVERYTHING from food to constuction materials... nasty stuff... but thoroughly enjoyable reading!

This was one of the very few series of books that I could never put down for ANYTHING... I am really looking forward to the casting.

I read the first 3 or 4, and really enjoyed them. plan to catch up on the rest of the series when I can get a chance.

I've been a fan of the cover art for a long time. However I have not read any of his works. I have had way too much in que before his series. That being said he is in line for me to read. I know that everyone I have spoken to about him and his works are all pleased to have read his stuff. I for one am looking forward to getting my grubby paws on it.

Necroscope was indeed a great read, and any vampire or vamplit fan should read at least the first few books of the series. Lumley does a great job of constructing characaters in this and alternate worlds, and drawing in the reader.

That said, as with most series, I found this one sliding into easy circles of same-old same-old after a while. Perhaps it picks up after where I left off. Still it holds up to a good standard and for those who enjoy it it can go a long way.

Thanks for the commentary Vlad. I was hoping someone was going to give a commentary such as yours.. I agree some series do go into the "ole same ole same ole" after a while. But if the writer is good it's still a fun read. And from what you posted, it's still a fun read. I'm definitely going to add him to my must read list.
