Does anyone believe in the possibility of an item to hold power or knowledge? Other than books....lol.

That even if the manipulater dies, that the potential is left within?

Like a cross, ring, charm, amulet/talisman, etc.

Or even a symbol left or drawn in a place of power for a long time?

Can the object even curse and bless people at will as was intended?

Could the object even be used to kill someone?

(Example, like a book, similar to Death Note?)

I'm just curious.

Setting aside the mysticism and directing the adoption of acquiring power via an external agent such as a utensil in argument: doesn't sacred books in combination with several symbolism and anecdotes moves mountains, stir wars, control masses and remodel the human condition with just the right words to serve such a function? one thing is acquiring knowledge and another is regaining knowledge for the fews- that alone gives the few power in terms of authentic reliability.

I saw on Ripley's Believe it or Not a chair that a man bought that had previously been owned by Napoleon and I don't know who prior or if it was made for him but those who acquired that chair had bad luck and some who sat in it died in freak accidents. I really don't know but there are tales around about objects that do have some sort of curse to them and cause harm to those who come into contact with them. Like anything else it could just be overblown and superstition.

It depends on ones own belief system on this topic.If in the back of your mind,you believe a book or a chair could have some power to it then it might.Some of these objects...maybe even all have no power in reality but in the mind of a believer it has massive power.All depends on how your mind works and what you want to believe to be true.

That's a very good question. In a way it kind of makes me wonder that people that can hold items of people who are alive or passed on and tell you personal things about them and have never met them before....
be considered as items that hold something within it.

I do believe that if the person feels strongly enough they can live a imprint on a item but as far as it cursing you , I don,t think so everything old has a story behind it and I think that knowing the story makes you more at risk to something happening.

The idea/concept of a cursed or even a blessed object reminds me of the movie The Skeleton Key.

True and like the movie...as long as she didn't believe she was safe...but her mind started to work against itself and then when she "believed" she lost the battle.

What is very real is sentiment, and nostalgi. Items ( weather arcane, or not)
can be significant in mnemonic recollection.

Add routine * read ritual* and that very same item is " charged" so much more.


The opposite can be just as likely as well, insert uncomfortable memories.

I have seen documentaries, shows created to debunk things, and I have read stories on arcane items and unusual objects.

About items never seen/found, but rumored to be cursed or blessed. As for items seen/found that are cursed or blessed.

Such as King Tut's sarcophagus and valuables from his tomb.

The Monkey's paw which was technically a cursed blessing if you knew how to use it right.

The angel statue in a cemetary in Athens, Ohio that cries blood. Athens, Ohio is a creepy place built in the middle of a pentagram. So technically, it's a cursed place of power.

Do you believe in any of these things?

Or the statues in Asia that grant wishes/prayers if you feed them milk or water, or kiss them?

Or are there other places or objects you believe in? Don't believe in? Or laugh at?

So many are the result of pious fraud, or honest oversites, that even if such
claims had any legitimacy they would be lumped with all the others. The one
common denominator for such professed items, is the inaccesability of said items to be scrutinized ( by believers, seekers, and skeptics).

I would mention that arcanic items, and sacred relics are two worlds apart, in present context.

That's true. I just brought them up because if I didn't somebody else would.

As I stated before...it is in the eye of the beholder.The Curse of King Tuts tomb is just mold and spores sealed up for so long that when breathed in they killed the men because of no immunity to fight them...not a curse.

You have to truly believe something has the "power" before it will work...at least in your head it worked.

I doubt the sarcophagus was ever in a private home...let alone in on display in said home.Maybe you saw that in a movie.

No. It was someone who bought a sarcophagus from the black market with a real mummy in it.

The man who originally owned it, kept it in his apartment.

Then an actress bought the apartment after he died, and strange/horrible things happened in the apartment.

Absolutely! I have Cherokee heritage and when I go to visit the reservation, I always bring back rocks from the river because I can feel the "energy" within it after I bring it home and it is very comforting to me. That energy brings me closer to my culture.

I'm Cherokee too. I have found possessions that I couldn't be "in tune" without.

The only practice that I know of that may cause uncertain harm to an individual so Voodun. Specifically the Gri Gri bags and special items they use for their rituals.

Bloodmother..this is in response to your earlier post about Athens, OH...I lived near there and had been there several times because my eldest son's girlfriend attended college there. I had never felt uneasy about the place at all and never felt any negativity of any kind. I know there are quite a few stories revolving around the town and the haunted asylum but I think as far as that goes it depends on whether you want to believe in them or not.

I do think that some things do possess energies and you can feel whether they are negative or positive. As far as items being cursed..well that I don't know.

IN hinduism there are a lot of objects in custom such as mantrit (charged by mantra) capsule of horse tail hair, small book pendle (Geeta) pendle of God's Photo, Mantrit (charged by mantra) Lace Knott in the neck lace, etc.,etc.

BM..that whole area is rich with stories of all kinds..mothman wasn't too far away from there either in Point Pleasant..so is alot of Indian grounds also. So if you are into all that then that is the place to go.

I would, but my hubby is an extra-sensitive. He'd lose his mind and things like to attach themselves to me, and most of them aren't pleasant company.

It may be about the town of Athens being some sort of paranormal place or full of hauntings. I have been there and it is a beautiful town..mostly college but still it is very beautiful there. Scary might be at Halloween when they have their big party..LOL!

In Point Plesant they actually have a mothman statue in the middle of town! But there I believe something did occur, not sure what, to try to warn people of the Silver Bridge Disaster..going over the new bridge now you get an eerie feeling knowing all those people died in the river below you.

I live in WVa and the Mothman doesn't exist...like much of the other superstitious things lingering around....they see car taillights through the trees at night and think it is a winged creature.A bridge was faulty and it collapsed under extreme stress...sadly killing people but no "Mothman" had anything to do with it.

Like I stated before...you can believe in anything you choose but the world isn't as strange and exotic with "creatures" as so many people seem to believe there is.Don't you think with all the tech there is at hand today...all these "creatures" would be seen or spotted or even captured.

Now back on topic...these objects only have the "power" you mention to the holder...because they "believe" they hold the power.Such as a lucky rabbits foot...not so lucky for the rabbit.Like Catholic medals...carry the one that will help you the most...it will only "work" if the person truly believes it will.The human mind is capable of so much yet most people in the 21st Century still hold on to myth and superstition to get by in life.

As much as i would find it to be thrilling to find items of power like what the topic is on, i'm in agreeance with the thought that and item only has as much power as what the person believes it to have. More then once i have gladly taken "curesed" items and not even care about what the preivious owner told me about them. I have not yet felt the power of a "curse" item to harm me or bring me bad luck, nor have i felt the power of a "blessed" item to bring me good fortune or good luck. BUT it is my belief that an item is just an item, some look better or more forboding but still its just a piece of wood, rock, metal, bone w/e. so i guess in a mannor of speaking my unbelief is stronger then w/e curse or blessing is on any item.

Sentimental items are enough for me personally. I find it hard to be preoccupied with to many Wards, and Talismen. I do know the aplication of such things, but those who create a dependancy on such things are stagnent
in meeting their personal challenges.

Through History, many cultures use items to protect themselves against enemies. During the crusade, almost all warriors use a cross as protection. Witches use their book of shadows as a book of knowledge and protection. there are talisman that some people will give anything to obtain. Yes, those objects produced a sense of protection in the mind of the owner.

Most objects have there own unique energy signatures, some just have negative energy attached to them. I am of the medicine way,shaman, and witch not wicca though. When healing someone at times we have to transfered the energy into something else if the energy is negative some would say it would cause the person illness, or bad luck to keep the object the energy is transferred into. Those of us who are wise know how to properly dispose of such items or cleanse them, like you would for say a crystal use a lot for banishing.

Mark, If sentiment, and Nostalgia are waining in one, imagine how as say a
mass movement can be drawn to a common item.. one such as ( I know this is a sacred relic, but it bleeds into arcane) the Holy Grail, weather or not it "exist" is near irrelevent, it is the " Quest" alone.

So many people have died in search of that item. The Holy Grail/Golden Chalice, and Golden Fleece.

The intent of those who sought it ( or claimed to be seeking it) are as numerable as the armies slaughtered by Christians.

Objects can hold power if one believes in that power held to that object.

Curses are often used to discourage people from taking (stealing) things. In Haifa I used to work in haifa there is a "rumour" that taking the pathstones is bad luck. These nice round riverstones are found in galilee and it tales a crew of 4 three days to get a wheelbarrow full.
Peopel want momentos and subscribe bad luck to these momentos.

In NOLA there at Marie Leveaus(sp) there is an alter that you are not suposed to touch. If I hadn't been in there looking for a talisman to shake some weird vibes, I would have "sampled" the energy in it; next time I go I fully intend to. The atrtical I picked up in that shop was a nice pisciean backbone necklace that is difficult to control. I don't let people touch it usually.

About 8 years ago I was doing teh gate at a psychic fair in a hotel and a guy walks in asking if there was anyone in there that new anything about witchcraft. *chuckles* there was actually only one witch in the group and she was very busy. The guy asked if I could take a look at the stuff he was auctioning off that weekend as the stuff in the storage container was owned by a witch and he didn't want to offend any of his customers by selling something to a christian that would get them mad.
I sorted everything into 3 piles. Sellable, Not Sellable, and "charged" but sellable if cleared. Shortly after I was done a group of witches came in (about 2 hours late) and resorted everything with a much larger nonsellable pile than I had (tehy were hoping the auctioneer was going to give them teh stuff for free) After they were told that they could take what they had seperated for 2000$ they started resorting again... and put everything back to the way I had it. *laughs*

The previous owner of the items was a "founding" member of the OTO in Western Canada and his family did not want to pay for his storage container anymore as he had been in the "hospital" (mental) for 10 years and was not likely to ever get out.

There were some very interesting things in there, most of it very cheap swords, and a few very interesting higher end items like an antique japanese ring... but most of it was just handmade junk or low quality crap that was charged.

The one item that was a piece of junk was wrapped in an a piece of silk that looked like it had been cut from an 80's shirt. It was a copper tube and a piece of dowl with handpainted markings on both in very bad lettering. It ooked liek something a 5 year old might make from a treebranch and a found piece of plumbing. As I unrapped the thing, I fealt liek a psychic circuit breaker flipped off in my head to protect me from the thing, and I dropped it clattering to the floor and said "you can't sell that!"

Apparently it was a "God Stick" but it looked childish and silly, yet it was the most powerful thing I have ever touched.

Nearly everything in the container had strong energy even after 10 years of dormancy.

Unfortunately I missed the auction... I would have liked to have had some of that stuff (except that stick.)
