Free Will and Mind Control

With movies like push, where they have the power to make you shoot yourself or others. It got me thinking about free will and mind control. If it was possible to read minds or control things with it,do you believe that a person could make another do anything against their will?Do you think a person could have such a weak will that they would let someone else "tell" them what to do and how to do it?

Can the human mind be able to stop someone from "entering" freely and then take over their free will and control them?

I'm asking from a scientific point of view and not a sci-fi point of view...even though I'm using a movie as reference.

I think that most people find it really easy to justify thier actions after they have commited a personal infraction that they were previously opposed to. I don't think it is so much harder to convince someone to justify an action before they comit the attrocity. I know a lot of people that have murdered for thier government, that have no regrets about it.

I think that there are some people that could sell thier farts, if they wanted to. Brainwashing is just salesmanship.

With proper pretenses, people can be inspired to hijack a plane.
Not all the 911 cells knew it was a suicide mission.

If I want to deceive people into doing something they would never do, I would approach someone they would consider doing something for, or if they see someone they trust appear to do my bidding, then they are predesposed
by degree.

If a person feels their is something to gain personally that longing can be
played against them.

Reading peoples minds is said by Practicing Mentalist to be impossible, but reading thoughts, and relaxing peoples inhibitions ( for entertainment) is an existing talent.

That is just weak minded people wanting to fit in and find a place to belong.

Brainwashing is NOT what Im asking...that is saying what people want to hear til you get them broken and their mind is pliable.

Once again...Im asking...IF it was possible to actually take your thoughts from your mind and enter into anothers mind...and make them do something against their will.NOT with words from your mouth but from thoughts from your mind.

I think it depends on how strong the person's will power is. To be honest the majority of people are so weak that they let others control them. I mean now these days the government and media basically warp people into believing their ideas, causing them to be just like them and the others they have warped. But that's just my opinion. Not sure if its any good right now.

In my opinion, it's all based on the strength of one's will. Although we all have the conceptual 'free will', the simple truth is, many people go against their will on a daily basis, for multiple reasons. If we consider how overwhelming a strong will is and how passive a weak will can be, than it is easy to understand controlling one's will. Should we consider it mind control? I don't think so...it's more of a natural progression, the ebb-and-flow of interpersonal interactions. There is a essence of control, of course...but controlling one's will takes a lot of self-discipline and awareness (much of which is beyond the common). Likewise, I don't think manipulations should be considered as mind control, as the two are extremely different, generally speaking.

Of course, I have always considered manipulations as somewhat dishonest, so my opinion may be skewd.

It is more often the practice of after a person does something impulsively criminal, that they attempt to convince others they were " made to do it"

You can use dogma, and indocturnization to create an autonomy in a collective member.

Thinking Weak minded people are the only people prone to cult influence is a slight cults cash in on.

You can see millions flock to faith healers. All they do is convince people ( usually closet hypocondriacts) they are sick, and then that they were healed by "prayer".

Mind control, or input is not going to happen. However what exist will continue, even as people are alerted to such technical manipulation of critical
thought.

I hear you can brainwash anyone with pain.
the government has been doing this stuff,
for a long, long time..and prob still doing it.
They only way one could stop from being brainwashed
or controlled is if your hear and spirit is into it.
If you can take pain and pressure.
It's already happening to everyone anyways,
i mean look at TV or on the internet.we are being told
how to raise kids,animals..what to buy,how to dress,
and speak.
subliminal(donno how to spell it) messages behind
music and raido, even threw a TV.
ever hear that musice at the market..or elevator?
why do you think they have that?you dont need music
to shop or go to the next level.
If your in a store..and the music goes out..or the power does, listin.you will suddently at peace..
and no reason to buy the thing you have.
It scared the crudd out of me.
--
but,if one is forced...its hard not to kneel before
your own fate of mind.
that is..if you willing to die in pain..or not.

I do not think that you can place your thoughts directly into another persons mind. If someone had such power I would hate to think of the consequences. **I wouldn't abuse the power..MUCH lol**

Many things interfere with our free will on a daily basis: political proganda, the media, advertising, hypnotism.... none of these things are mind control though... they are suggestions we may or may not be open to.

Yes, i do think there are a variety of methods to "mind" control another person, and that some people are better at it than others, and that some people are more susceptible than others.

How many times does he have to say this has nothing to do with cults, dogma, manipulation or anything else along those lines? Geez, actually read the topic people.

This is along the lines of true psychic theory, actually reading minds, forcing action etc.

Should it be possible for one person to enter another's mind I would imagine it would be possible to force them to do something. Similar to a drug acting on the body, over which we have no control over, an invasive thought/forced action may very well be impossible to stop.

It would depend on how the perpetrator gained access to the victims mind and what exactly they're trying to have them do. Since we know that things like cults can influence a persons thoughts and then will it stands that it may be possible to bypass the long way around (e.g manipulation) and go straight to the mind itself. Since it would depend on how it's done the strength of a person's will would play a role.

If you could sense someone trying to enter your thoughts you might be able to put up some form of resistance but then again, like a drug, you may not be able to stop it. Now, if you were to use technology to do this it would probably be much harder to prevent it.

Hmm I say for sure that you could really read an individuals mind, Im not so sure manipulation since some things are unknown from the people i think that could, but I can't direct my response in certainty, but is possible at the least of my understandings. Let me put it like this, if you could read some ones mind you could mold words that could manipulate an individual by indirect foreplay, If i know what you think of x variable, I could have an upper hand on choosing a path that could influence a certain circumstance to take place in your path.

Read this article and ask yourself if the concept of "mind control" is possible:

“On the Gregorian phonograph record, January 1 is part of the program. What plays on January 1?
Well in this country a lot of football ‘bowl games.’ Then at the end of January sometime, you never
know exactly when, it is the Super Bowl. February programs you for Valentine’s day and
President’s day. July for July 4. October for Halloween. December for Christmas and New Year’s
eve. And so on. Now September 11 - 9-11 - is part of the program, too. These are just some of the
more obvious examples of how that phonograph record plays during one spin - a year.
Every time one of those dates draws close, whole segments’ of the population respond in preestablished
ways. There are a lot more programs the calendar plays. The beginnings and endings of
wars. Veteran’s day. Memorial day. April fools. Tax day. Labor day. The memories of all of these
events are accumulated according to the dates in which they occur. Then everyone has personal
dates that trigger their emotions and memories, too. Like the day you were born. Or the day your
son died. Or when you got married … The Gregorian calendar is arbitrary and irregular. You would
hardly ever think about any natural factors by using this calendar. January 1 doesn’t correspond to
any solstice or equinox or anything natural at all. With a program like that, of course you wouldn’t
think of the seasons or the moon when you use this calendar. It is almost as if this calendar is meant
to keep you out of phase with nature … It is easy to overlook an unequal or irregular measure in
time because we can’t touch or see time. But would we overlook such an uneven standard in a
yardstick or ruler? And if we were to go ahead and try to make or build things with an uneven ruler,
wouldn’t they come out crooked or sloppy? Maybe after awhile we would say, ‘Oh that’s all right
we’ve lowered our standard to accommodate these sloppy constructions. You’ll get used to it.
We’ve always done it this way.’ But would you really settle for substandard measures of objects and
forms in space? Yet we put up with substandard and uneven measures in time. Thinking it doesn’t
matter may already be an effect of accepting so long the uneven measure. If space affects our
senses, time affects our mind. Therefore the effects of a crooked time on the mind may be far more
subtle, yet far worse than the effects of a crooked space on the senses. We could all develop a
crooked mind without even knowing it. Wouldn’t a crooked mind see the world in a crooked way
and create problems for itself without knowing it? Not only that, but we would then think all of our
problems come from some place outside of ourselves. We would always be looking for the
problems out there some place.” -Jose Arguelles, “Stopping Time”

Just thought I would throw that out there.

That has nothing to do with what we're actually talking about.

It also doesn't have any basis in reality. We set or don't set dates for things because we have to have a day to set things by, if it does or doesn't follow some cosmic cycle matters zip. There is nothing that says how we live our lives must follow a similar path as random and diverse orbits. In fact, our "substandardness" is really more a testament to how the universe works than anything else. The fact that we allow ourselves to be governed by apparent (and I say apparent because there is no such thing as true chaos etc) random, meaningless times, standards and so forth is really a mirror into the fact that the universe, while based on laws, develops into a seeming chaotic form. Trillions of stars with trillions of different orbital periods etc.

Humanity has followed the same basic path since the dawn of civilization, the Super Bowl for example has only been around for a few decades and has almost no bearing on our true development.

Ah, you mean like a biological computer hacking.

I think that is entirely fantasy, on par with undead vampires, zombie apocolypse, and the matrix.

Screwtape (CS Lewis) would find this amusing, why make things so complicated; when it is far easier to get someone to believe he wants to do what you want him to do.

Disassociation (like with angel dust) mixed with altered/secret desires seams easier and a more liekly explanation.

I dont think you understood the basis for my post. It was not posted to mention the fact that time passes, it is posted to gain attention for a cycle that from ages past seems to have manipulated the thoughts of the individual into progressing as they would be expected to. Not as they would have way back when.

I mean, doesn't the individual ever feel like time is a bit off in their lives? This could be considered basic mind control caused by uncalculated time throwing them off. It could also be a reason why at times we all seem to have our days mixed up.

In my perception, the calendar changes from the old to the new would throw any individual off if they did catch onto the time vs mind manipulation.

Makes sense to me anywho...

No you don't understand the basis of the thread...

for the simple folk...

IF a person could enter anothers mind...manipulate anothers thoughts so that they had no control over their own mind and was "made" to do something against their will. Not with words over and over...I mean it this way.

Without saying a word verbally I enter your mind...just by thinking it...in turn I say with my mind...take this gun and shoot yourself and you blow your brains out.

I made you shoot yourself without saying a word to you...verbally...but I entered your thoughts and MADE you do it.I didn't use a subliminal message or brainwashing.I entered your thoughts with my thoughts.

SS, I suppose I get what you're saying now. My main point though was that it has nothing to do with THIS thread on literal mind control, the ability for me to take my thoughts, project them into your head and cause you do things against your will, with out the use of verbal or written language.

As for the bulk of the replies to this thread I am rather surprised how difficult it is for people to not understand the word psychic or telepathy. It's not hard to blatantly see that this thread isn't about me telling someone something in an attempt to manipulate them or that our perception of time isn't the same as brain-to-brain mind control.

Ahhh, my apologies... My research seems to be getting to me tonight.

I suppose if the movie "Scanners" was possible, or the "Jedi mind trick" were possible, then mayhaps.

But that would be to sci-fi for what this thread wants. Hmm, vampires seem to have that bit of mind control, some what like hypnosis in a way. I have used it at times to my advantage. I call it controlled manipulation.

It is possible to hypnotise an individual if known how. But this takes time, patience and loads of practice especially on unsuspecting parties. Attempt at your own risk.

I dont use it anymore though... No cause to.

Though without saying a word is a differant scenerio altogether. If the individual knew the ways of telecommunication, then mayhaps brain wave reading could be probable, but I dont think society is that far along in their advancement for such consciousness to take place.

Not exactly reading thoughts, more like having the imagery the other person reflect/refract while fabricating the thoughts in lapses of time, you see you don't just think, like you might believe you do, you project the visualization as a whole, more or less like a picture, a variants of pictures; perhaps like a clip, thats how an art expression could be surprising, you never know what you get once you project it, is never like how you visualize it, and those thoughts could be transmitted just as waves transmit from a satellite to a digital Television, some can do it by touching the individual, others as well by even communicating throughout here or mounting a connection, emotional most likely. As for controlling again, that i have no disclosure, it could be done, probably not by any of us though.

To have the power to control someone in this manner I believe would take a lot of energy. I personally don't think someone could have that much energy built up in them to control another. Unless they have a very extreme weak will.

My basis for this is looking at those that have telekinesis powers.. It is exhausting for them to move object just a few centimetres. Mind control would be using that same energy to control another (in my opinion).

Also if another senses that they are losing control... I can't help but think that survival instincts would kick in to well repel the intruder to push them away so to speak.

I hope I answered your question DarkWolfman.

I saw a documentary on television about cerial killers most of them claim they were told by voices to carry out violent acts, some of these murderers had a brain injury resulting from trauma to front of their head

I think some people are more easily led, i have no belief anyone can read and control a mind

Some claim to be posessed, it's still mind control but supernatural

I'd have to think it would vary. Weak willed people, people already harmed in some other way, I think would be easier to take complete mental control over. However, I think if some act was introduced to the mind that was completely against the person's normal point of view,(I.E. Kiling their best friend) they might hesitate, or maybe even release themselves completely from the "invader's" grasp. I don't think there would never be any resistance. The world is based off of circles. There's always someone stronger.

I believe one person can "plant" images or thoughts into another. However, I do not believe that another person can actually cause motor movement on another.
We all react to what we see....a fly lands on the desk and I use a fly swatter to smash it. That is a reaction to what I am seeing. So if someone were to reach in to an individual's mind and "give" them an imaginary image of what they are trully seeing, it is possible that person may act impulsively on what they see.
In this sense, the "giver" of the image is NOT controlling or changing the free will of the "recipient". The recipient is still acting upon their own free will.

I think real life history has already shown us this is possible. Occult sects, and other finatics have managed to totally control other people and lead entire groups into drastic tragedies right along with them.
JamesTown, Wacco Texas, Charles Manson, that UFO finatic out in california and so many others have brain washed individuals.
So yes it is possible, sadly enough.

yes I know....but I have tried to explain as clearly as I could.

brain·wash·ing (brnwshng, -wôshng)

1. Intensive, forcible indoctrination, usually political or religious, aimed at destroying a person's basic convictions and attitudes and replacing them with an alternative set of fixed beliefs.
