These days Houses are as prevalent as teenagers wearing pentagrams and calling themselves wiccan (no offense to pentagram wearing teenagers btw)). The term Vampire seems to me to be getting mixed up with folklore and myth quite a lot and there seems to be a distinct lack of knowledge about what in real terms it means to be Vampiric.
I do think that there are three main catagories of Vampiric tendancies( I always say this and i do mean it... These are only my opinions based on what i have myself experienced over the years.) Those being
Sanguine/Sanguinarian - a Sanguinarian is someone who has a physical thirst, need, or craving for blood. This need is generally non-erotic in nature and distinguishable by the greater quantity required from the minimal amount consumed by blood fetishists
A vampire who feeds from "Pranic" life energy. AKA Psi vamp. A psychic vampire in general is a person who drains, knowingly or unconsciously, the psychic energy from those around them. Unconscious psychic vampires can be somewhat of an annoyance, as they don’t realize what they are doing and make no effort to control their feeding.

Hybrid Vampire -A vampire who is capable of feeding on both blood as well as psi energy. Though most Vamps i know are capable of both.

I know these have been covered in various other threads but i thought maybe a thread devoted to each particular one may be in order as there looks like there is a lot of confusion. One thing bothering me about the apparent lack of any real knowledge ... The very real danger of catching HIV hep ab & C etc Blood letting requires very real and stringent procedures. Also a very good knowledge of the body.

So now im going to shut up and move on lol

Oh Disclaimer.. I kow i have been hit by the typo deamons in here somewhere...

Sis since you mentioned the dangers involved in blood sharing I went ahead and tossed up two of the articles from the Lair's archives on safe techniques in the Vampire Information section of my journal. There are also two links to blood bank & blood fact sites in the Resources section of my journal that cover issues of blood types, blood born diseases and so on.

Anyone who engages in any form of blood sharing, cutting, blood fetishes etc really should review that sort of information before doing anything. There are just way too many risk factors out there for someone not to be fully versed in the dangers of what they are doing and the ways to keep themselves and their donars, partners and others safe.

Hello Sky,

You make a very good point about the issues facing us when attempting to seperate truth from fiction- it would be interesting to see if it is possible to determine exactly what fundemental and core factors exist between the three states that you mention above.

Is call comercialism. Is a very wide topic & for my part gets on my nerve. This topic has indeed been talked in other times & threads. Just to say somethign the only reason you see a lot of people into the " " vamp idea is only because hollywood- & commercials have made it look as somehtign wow now. It has become the same as sayn a prep girl, lets see who looks better than barbie-lets see who looks better than dracula or w/e.

I fully acknowledge the fact that most people, be it vampire or not, are unaware of where myth and reality begin. I have only had the pleasure of meeting a few outside my house that are what I would call a true vampire. Most people just out in a pair of fangs, watch a blade movie or two, and spout off dumb thigs about blood gods or whatever.
The same thing happened with the movie the craft, suddenly there was a huge boost in pentacle sales, and every poser thought that they were some new mystical creature set above the rest.
I have tried for the past several years to find out good infrmation on the topic of deeper research into our condition, and usually find nothing more than info on Vlad, Elizibeth, or in rare cases, Rod Ferrel references. The reason most are so blind about what they are, is cause there isn't enough information out there in the open.

I foro ne am gald to see this thread come up.

This topic may have been discussed here before, but having been involved in some of the recent threads there are a lot of people here at Rave who post about their lack of knowledge or seem to be saying they still believe inthe myth of the hollywood type vampire.

There's also a few who post they don't believe vampire exist but I'm not sure whether they mean hollywood type or the fact that a vampyric nature exists.

New members are coming all the time and whislt some may make the efort to go back over old threads not all will. Some same info may be puthere but there will be added input as new members will add their own experiences, lol, possibly.

For myself a vampyric is one who has the need to feed on whatever energy they can use, they can 'taste' the feed and know when they haven't or feel the effects even if they don't have the understanding.

We come across many who claim vampyr for whatever reasons, it is a welcome change to be able to discuss the topic with those who either are or know something based in reality rather than fiction.

*Zaps Sky's typo's*

Ernst Casirer and Joseph Campbell have both written extensively on Myth. Whilst Casirer is more focused upon what he terms the "myth of the state" and his treatise deals with myth and Nazi Germany, both agree that myth is largely misunderstood in that myth is wrongly thought of as fiction. Myth is an attempt to explain the unknown. From the earliest pantheons to the great monotheist faiths myth persists. Vampirism for some is also myth; also a religion. I noticed earlier that there was a distinction made between lifestyle and religion. I respectfully offer a precedent and paradigm that in fact intertwines the two.

Christians of the Eastern Orthodox Churches have argued for instance that the act of going to worship on Sundays has become "cultic" among Western Christians - Catholics and protestants. By cultic they mean that worship as such has become something one does as part of one's lifestyle rather than the focus of it or, more accurately, that worship IS life.

I try in my discussions about vampyre and vampirism to be quite clear that I am not speaking necessarily of the being who drinks blood or draws its sustenance from other means. I believe that for those whom adhere to Vampirism as a religion - that is as the totality of existence - have engaged in a mythos that attempts to explain the great mysteries in a manner as valid as any other religion or belief system.

For others it is a lifestyle, but even the cultic lifestyle still strives to cope with what is unknown as well as the vagaries of one's own environment. Myth persists here as well in that the strength of the vampyre Being can control the life "variables".

IMHO, I think that when all is said and done, all things require faith and myth must accompany that faith and in fact sustains it. On a more mundane level faith pushes us every moment. We makes plans and we believe we will live to see these plans come to completion.

Tangential seemingly I admit, but then, we are tackling a subject that has filled more volumes than perhaps any other. I do believe that Vampirism is a religion every bit as valid as Wicca, Christianity, Satanism, or any other belief - or non-belief system you care to name. Remember, it ultimately takes the same amount of faith for the atheist to pull back the starry curtain and say there is no God/Goddess as it does the Believer.

Fundamently I believe we must therefore ask not whether Vampyres are Myth or Legend. They are most certainly the former whilst the Cubs winning the Series is the latter. We must ask what is the persistence of vampyric myth in almost every culture trying to explain.

Thanks for wading through this admittedly disjointed passell of ideas. I hope I have made some sense.

Vlad

Hiya Vlad...

A very insightful and clrearly well educated post. It wasn't too hard to read and didn't really run away with itself...I liked what you said.

One thing I would say and I don't *think* that it contradicts you, is that even though the vast majority that might call themselves Christian, for example, cram all their worship in on a Sunday and don't generally 'live the lifestyle' every day, it shouldn't detract from their system of beleif if they feel that they are getting their spiritual needs catered for in this way.

Its funny- people get abuse for being 'weekend satanists' or 'vampire posers' because they refuse to immerse themselves too deeply into the related culture and mythos. I wonder why there is no such thing as a weekend Christian?

I see so often that people claim to be vampyres because they live the lifestyle fully and have all the associated paraphenalia and fetishes, but, it's rare that we get the reasoned arguments that a vampyre in modern western society still has to survive in and/or fight their way out of the rigidly imposed system of education, work, etc, before they can truly express themselves freely.

In the meantime, they still have to pay the bills, cloth their children and pander to the ideals of society in order to reach a point of stability from which they can develop themselves to their potentials.

The reality is that their is no nation, no country or city that is the sole domain of the vampyre and so, they must survive in the shadows of reality in which the everyday person lives.

While I haven't heard the term "weekend Christians" the phrase "twice a year's" (Christmas and Easter) is certainly popular where I am from.

I agree that a person's spiritual fulfillment is a private matter. Our relationship with whatever higher power we happen to believe in is our own business and should not be judged by anyone.

Sometimes in my attempts to take things hire I frequently only attain the dizzying heights of mediocrity. But, it is the process more than the goal that thrills me. I wonder if it is the same for many of us here? Perhaps the old adage "the thrill of the hunt" is true after all?

but the trouble is why must people find this somewhat urgent need to "expose" themselves when it would mean ridicule, judgment and isolation? I totally agree with Stabb about those people "claiming" to be vampires yet know nothing about the real essence of vampirism.. It's not actually all fun and games when one is afflicted with such a condition..

A Sang must always establish trust with his/her donor since they both need to practice hygine as well as have healthy physical conditioning... A Psy must always know how to channel the energy he/she feeds on and how to control the "hunger".. both still living out a normal life amongst those who are unaware of what they are actually going through.. A "vampire's" life is not glamorous at all..

Something like this is always going to get mistaken and seen as a trend.

Glad that here I've found people that can make a distinction between reality and fiction.

I can understand certain people are born with a condition but I dislike it when they think they're vampires of the myhts -_-

If I had certain conditions I would have kept them to myself ecxept for maybe close friends and I repeat:Maybe!

Cause I would know the risks of judgementality so why risking.

Yeh, but when the 'normal' people alk about Vampyr and you throw in the odd coment about Hollywood being bunkum and the 'real' ones who hunt........lol, the look on their faces is a dream.

Of course if you know how to play the game you don't expose yourself..........mind you people have always said I'm weird (if they likeme) and other things but not so I can hear them lol....having a big vamp tattood on my back makes them wonder as well .....

Exposure isonly dangerous if you haven't the skill or wit to deal with it and deflect it, so probably for most it's best to stay in the shadows.

Some myths are based on reality...so if you believe in a few of the ancient myths then most of the real world should be solid...but vampirism is a way of life and wicca is more of a religion...something to be followed not lived.

Okay...in the myth, vampirism was just something that everyone is afraid of, at least the people that dont understand it...Now in reality, vampirism isn't to be afraid of...it is to be embraced, and enjoyed...now, there are private clubs,societies/communions for this certain belief.

My question in response...and this may be something for a new thread....is "Is vampirism (as in the sanguine/psy/pranic type...not the mythological type) a chioce or not?"

I hear people calling it a lifestyle, a belief, and/or a fetish...which all would imply that it is a condition that one chooses. However, on the other hand, you have those who say that they must feed in order to live...which implies that it is not a choice.

Again, perhaps a new thread is in order on this, but I think that it semi-relates to the original topic since the non-choice version seems to be the one that fewer people believe in when it's mentioned.

It really depends on the person in question. I was never really given a choice as it were, I just did it until I realized (for the most part, that is), what I was doing.

Different sources will give you different information, but from what I've read and I believe, vampirism is not a choice. you are either born with the condition or not. It can't be 'given' to you.

What do you mean it’s not a choice? The only reason we are what we are is because we choose to be the way we are. It’s what separates us from everything else, choice. If we did not have the opportunity of have choice, then it would seem as if another had the control over everyone, & I seriously doubt that anyone here likes to be controlled.

Sometimes you are not given a choice. There are medical conditions such as Porphyria and
Renfield's Syndrome

Well it depends. Some people believe they are myths and others believe it was reality and therefore have been prevoked to do such things.

Reality is something that you can see and can research it to be completely true. A myth is something that was once very partailly true but has been "diluted" or rearranged to be something more acceptable than it once was.
