I have a friend who is a zombie fan and i am a vampire fan, well after some thinking i brought up the argument to him that maybe a zombie is a vampire, one of the savage vampires. They hold alot of simular traights.
A savage vampire is a vampire that did not fully develope and has little or no intelegence.
A zombie is the walking dead with no intelegence.
A savage vampire appears to be decomposing cause he/she doesn't know to change there cloths and so forth and so on
A zombie is decomposing corpse.
A savage vampire transfers his/her gift through a bite and not finishing their victim.
A zombie transfers it's gift through it's bite.
This is just a thought, so tell me what you think

Thats an interesting theory. I've read a few books where a vampire rises starved after years in a crypt and is more a less a zombie untill feeding. Still if you're speaking of zombies as in George A Romero I don't think that really tracks. For one thing why were there no savage vampires before the meteor started to raise the dead(original Night of the Living Dead) and why in Dawn of the Dead didn't the zombies burn up in the sunlight.

This is off topic but Homepage of the Dead is a great zombie site and there is a story there about a vampire that wakes up from a long sleep to find the world over run with zombies. It's called preservation of the species I think.

My believe is that vampires are normal people but with a different lifestyle zombies I don't know how I am able to explain this well.

There was a thread about zombies. It was refering to bodies that it's put some liquid in them by people who are called Witchdoctors. It keeps the brain dead but the body can move.

I have never heard of a "savage" vampire that you speak of. I can tell you that all the vampire movies I have ever saw the vampire was always very alert, able to walk & talk, and could move pretty fast. Zombies on the other hand have been slow(until recent zombie movies have decided to change that) and lifeless. Vampires I believe bite with the intent to make another like him along with for the craving of blood. Zombies bite just to feed and with no other intent then that since most of them are brain dead.

Zombies are as varied as vampires and were wolves actually. Depends on what you're reading or watching. In the Anita Blake books zombies are raised by animators and more or less under their control. In others they are lifeless shells preying on the living, and in City of the Dead(forget the author's name at present) they are corpses inhabitted by demons whose mision is to destroy the world. Then in the Evil Ernie comics Ernie himself is undead with the power to reanimate other corpses to carry out his mission of killing the entire human race.

You do have a real good point. Both vampires and zombies have similer traits. They both are also the undead.

Zombies are living people; just like the majority of vampires. If you haven't seen the film, "The Serpant and the Rainbow", I do suggest it. These people are drugged, and are often maintained as slaves on work farms in Haiti. A quick search will turn up all kinds of stuff.

Hmmm this is a hard one looking at all the different views...

However here is my penny/dimes worth:

Although Vampires are dead..They do have all their faculties. In the sense that they can think and act for themselves. They have intelligence and use it...

Although their primary function is to feed, they dont necessary kill, hence on the most they have a concience.Whether they are humanitarian and use it is another matter.

Zombies: Of the little that I know of Zombies. They have no or little intelligence. The only functions that they can carry out is movement {not very well if you go off most movies or books on this subject.} And gorging on human flesh to survive.

As for the gift or powers you mention..

A vampires bite only turns a human to vampire...If the vampire decides to trn the human...It is not instantanious.

A Zombie bite however of what little I have seen pretty much guarantees the person is going to come back as a Zombie..Unless of course they are mutilated past the point of being able to do this in the process..Therefore is it a gift...I would suggest that the Zombie being of little intelligence does not have the capability to know or even care if he/she has just made another Zombie.

Finally, something that I can add my expertise to.

There are two kinds of zombies, the Voodoo (Voodun or Hoodoo) zombies, and the undead zombies. Voodoo zombies are created by first drugging the victim with a mild to moderate sedative, which puts the victim into a comatose state. The victim is then buried alive, where the lack of oxygen and the effects of the sedative serve to severly damage parts of the brain. When the zombie is exhumed, he no longer has any of the intelligence he did as a human, and will listen to what the witchdoctor tells him to do, through a little magic and alot of authoritative speaking.

It is less clear what would cause an undead zombie, but most think of it as some sort of viral infection that centers in the brain. The affected zombies are in fact dead, their heart stops, pain receptors shut down. They retain small muscular control, allowing them to shuffle toward their victims, and by instinct they draw air in and out of their lungs, despite their lack of a working cardio-respatory system, in order to make their distinctive moan. The virus keeps the brain, parts of it anyway, alive and allows the body to die slowly. An undead zombie is never as strong as when it was first created, since it's body does not repair itself, where as a Voodoo zombie is still alive, and thusly will eat, sleep, etc, and its body will repair the minute tears in the muscles caused by movement.

This is getting long (getting? it already is) but I hope it helped.

hmm, maybe i should have been more specific on what a savage vampire is, i will refer to fiction for now(cause my non-fiction book is not with me, lol) In Anne Rice's: Interview with a Vampire, They come across many mindless vampires before comming to Paris, these vampires are what i am particularly looking at, i will add the non-fiction part as soon as i get my book back

I have read a few accounts of the Voodoo zombies, and they mentioned salt counteracting the effects of the drugging. They gave salt to one of these zombies and it began to recall things that happened.

VoodooChild - well said.

Though I have watched/heard/read information in regards to the 'zombie' of Voodoo, I have not heard of the salt - though that is an interesting concept.

In my opinion, it is the mind that is damaged in the zombie - but if you want to delve into fantasy lore and theatre then I am sure there is a list miles long that would answer this question.

That is a good arguement but I stand my ground saying that a savage vampire is just that and a zombie is just a zombie no matter what the arguement they are what they are.

zombies are the walking dead people refer zombies to upon waking up in the morning and other things but an actual zombie is preposterous. Vampire are human with a difference whe are un able to make our own pranic energy. We have the gift to harness the pranic energy of others and use it to our benifit

A zombie is a re-animated corpse, through the use of chemical compounds to produce a series of bio-electric signals which appear to give the rotting corpse life.

A vampire is a living being.

I think zombies are creatures that neither have brains nor have a live they are deadin every possible meaning of it but still walking like anyother. Vamps are creatures that use dead bodies.

I once read a book that posed an interesting concept of If a master vampire abandoned those he made or met an untimely demise, The ones he made would then become insane and violent. So i suppose it kind of goes along the lines of the zombie consept. But it was just a book ~shrugs~
