I am quite sure this has been discussed before but, I just want to see what ideas are out there.
The idea of being "immortal" to me means, that you cannot die no matter what happens.
Now in the movies, they call vampires "immortal" but, they can die in many different ways. So, does that make them something else other than truly immortal?
If the Earth were to explode, they surely would not survive. To me, that makes them mortal, just harder to kill.
Immortality to me refers to the soul. An entity of which cannot truly die out. We are born, reborn as an ongoing cycle of life, which most of our ancient cultures believed and accepted.
Immortal to me means to never be forgotten....such as when people say " so and so has been immortalized in our memories forever".
The word immortal has a few meanings
To many it is of the soul, an immortal soul. To never be truly dead and gone, but can reincarnate into something else. Also known as "old souls." This is what immortal means to me.
To others, like the other post said, is to be never forgotten. like in history...there are those that are never forgotten, which makes them somewhat of immortal in a sense of the word.
Immortal may be referring to certain things as well. As to age...immortal. Forever undeniably 16 or something. You never change, therefore you have immortal aging.
Immortal should not be referring to the body. For even a vampyre can be killed, like aforementioned in the beginning post, vampyres are just harder to kill. This should not make them immortal. Bodies are never immortal. NEVER.
It is the soul that which is immortal.
It is the spirit that never dies that makes you immortal whether the spirit of your work or the spirit of your family (children) or your soul. Mozart is immortal for his as is my Uncle every time I see his son. Adam was a living soul so is a soul immortal or just us clothed in flesh? Our spirits will always be however.
Immortal mean, never leaving this life, but, how can that be possible? After you die, you just start again.

To me, 'immortal' means never dying... the black and white definition. But you can put a poetic spin on anything.
Are we discussing physical immortality or the conquest of the soul?
Well, with vampires being the main point of this site, I would say physical.

1.Not susceptible to death or aging, never dying or growing older.

To me immortality has more than 1 meaning,
1. Unable to die
2. Be forever remembered for something
In that case ~Zombie~ (Love the name, by the by...), the meaning of immortality in my perspective, is to see a world that no other could possibly relate to. After thousands of years being alive and witnessing the wonders of disasters, depressions, tyrany, hidden agenda's that take years to develope then watch the outcome as they conclude... The negative aspects for a learning experience, then to watch the human race as they accomplish the same histories over and over again, and conclude in the same fashion save with differant designers of said histories... History always repeats itself, but if one were to try and help those within certain historical era's could lead to an entirely differant outcome and could start a new historical phenomenon.
Then we have all the adventures that we could ever handle, the wars we could fight and hopefully win for which ever side we so chose, the musical instruments we could learn, the people we would meet from philosophers to teachers, educated in various things that teach on their level, then have those lessons re-iterated to us in future years by someone else, gaining further knowledge and helping those teachers out with what we have learned from past teachers.
See how history presents itself with mobile transports, new crafts and religions that come and go.
I think immortality would be a remarkable thing.
The bad side to it would be a bit of a lonely one though, if one were in that frame of mind. The people we would fall in love with would perish, but this is what life is all about, is it not? To witness many grand and remarkable things? To help the world learn and to grow?
I would take advantage of every opportunity that came my way if it were in a positive light. Experience everything that I could before that certain exciting decade or century ended.
Simply marvelous, immortality would be.
immortality to me is of the soul
not achievements left in history like the historical legends
or having been born from one of the immortal gods/souls ... like many legend makers claim to be made from, that would be a half immortal as i see it
Immortality to me would be how I am remembered when I'm no more in existence in this world.
Immortality to me is also to be remembered forever and to have your influence still affecting the world when you gone.
some idiots are saying how can vampires be immortal if they get killed?(because some people here think immortality means unkillable) simple, immortal does not mean unkillable it means you will never grow old and never die from it,Invincible means unkillable and vampires are far from invincible.
of course there are a lot different versions and views of immortality,so its meaning and limits are different.
Immortal is in reference to that which has a beginning and has no end. The spirit of Rock, Plant, and Animal, have finite existance, including all bodies of flesh. The "human" spirit (the soul) is the first known of immortals; which would be equal to any alien spirit; then, presumably, there are celestials/angels, godhead, and perhaps gods/aspects. God (singular) is not really immortal, as It is without beginning or end.
Therefore vampires are not immortal, being flesh, and St Germaine (probably being a celestial) could be immortal.
The definition of immortal in fantasy terms, usually means that you cannot die of natural causes... ie aging/desease/poison/lack of food,shelter,air,love &c.
My views on Immortal is that you cannot die. When we die our souls move on and start again, to me that isnt Immortal as a new life has started from an old one.
I think SS put it in it's proper light. It would be a wonderful thing although lonely at it's best and very heartbreaking at it's worst. LOl I mean I also would ahve to take every advantage I could if I could be immortal, yet also as SS said the frame of mind would have to be there for soem one to be Immortal.
I think that Immortlity is to always be remembered no matter if alive or dead. whether it be by things one has done that makes them remembered over the ages, or by ledgends, books etc., also the soul I feel is something that would be considered immortal.
I mean I do not know if the soul can actual *die* so I feel that it is immortal, to be born and reborn over and over.
but, bottom line to always be remembered, since I do not believe a person is literally Immortal as for as not ever dying. Cause as you said Zombie, even the Vampires can be killed so I am not too sure how that plays into immortality but, that is just me.
That is true, we do tend to class great sporting heros as Immortals because they will be remembered.
that is true they make many people over history in general as well as sports immortal, look at Hitler LOL but, Immortal can mean many things all together to each of us.
i have to agree with the never die side
too use the soul or spirit of your body to say your immortal is false in my view, its a different life if you move on to a next world or different dimension. that life is separate from this one, because you can't go to it and come back to this one, once your there you arent coming back.
that being said i dont think any soul has moved on from earth. just my view.
I like where your thinking was going Zombie! And I've really enjoyed everyone's answers to all of this discussion.
To go back to your original question though I see what you are saying with things almost "miss-labeled" as immortal.
Vampires are often considered immortal but they can be killed and removed from existence through a variety of methods.
So, I think the differences stems from a bit of miss-interpretation of some words.
Immortal often, in the case of vampires, means unable to age, always going to be there. So, let's say immortal deals with the temporal sense, it's the ability to not be effected by time.
Invulnerable, on the other hand, would be the ability to not be injured or damaged in anyway. So, if you had a vampire that we invulnerable they wouldn't die if they went into the sun nor would they be injured or killed in anyway. Except maybe dieing of old age (for things just described as invulnerable, because maybe the soul just has to leave the physical body at some point).
So, what we are talking about is really immortal dealing with time, while invulnerable deals with the physical. It would be the world of writers, directors, and enthusiasts putting a different spin on words that maybe don't quite mean just that.
Love the question. Hope I made sense.
To me Immortal means that the physical body dies but the spirit remains in many different forms. The spirit may manifest in different forms while part of it moves on to another plane or being.
In the movies yes Vampyres can die in many different ways but harder to kill.
It really does depend on how you use the term. But it generally means live on forever. It doesnt have to mean one that cannot die.
"Immortal"
So many ways to address this now as before....
However, the term as in a "Life" would be the inability to die. (Which by many postings and common sense leads us all to a simple truth of: We do die at some point.)
In terms of labels (Religion, Beliefs, Faiths and Practices) it becomes a meaning of the spirit, soul or Being. Which again is subject to so many different 'truths' of there own right, it can be mind numbing. So, the short answer would be: "The Spirit, Soul or Being within can be, depending on ones own choice(s) of identification or association; Immortal because most if not all labels trust in a concept of continued existence(s).
And now the secret of long life: Don't die!
Guidacarta
Neutral Lives
Inmortal, Inmortality, ah
Perhaps the best definition of what it coud be can be found on Faust, as he aks the devil for 24 years of inmortality, in which nothing can harm him.
He jumps off cliffs just to experience the fall, knowing that he will land safely. He has all his desires, all his wants, wishes. But for a finite period of time
"Immortal" , to me means something that cannot be killed. Something that cannot ever be final or have an end.
At some point all things end.
Lets say I was a known musician, writer or artist. My works would undoublty live beyond my years. Yet who will be there when the Earth no londer exsists?
Immortal? ...the earth is not even immortal it had a beinging, it will have an end. The only thing I can call truely immortal is "time" itself. Most people cannot wrap their mind around that kind of infinity.
It means you can not die - you live forever - you do not age, you can not die by gun shot, decapitation, stake through the heart, impalement, etc - you are impervious to any damage
All of us throughout this life leave our footprints in the sand with no amount of struggle or strife can keep the ocean from cleaning the land. All names become as nothing before the eternal passage of time. Maybe names were never anything. This illusion being its great crime are the words written in the sand are not lost. None will ever be where it was before no matter how many times each grain is tossed. They won't be exactly at the same place on the shore, it is our hidden immortality forever hidden by our named reality.
Yes, I know this isn't written in iambic pentameter, but technically that isn't a requirement for a sonnet. This is mainly what I think of the term, immortal meant to me.
Immortal to me means a couple things. 1 is that we have a constant reminder that we are not human or normal. 2 is that we cannot rest our eyes and forget those we've fed off of or hurt in anyway possible. 3 is that regardless of what we are alone in this world. Sure we meet others like us but we at one point or another will be alone and in the cold darkness for all eternity.
And yet a human could be immortal, this change of DNA does not nessessarily mean that they are any differant from being human. Therefore I think a misconception is lit up from the thoughts that immortality somehow means one needs to change from being human.
Why is that?
wll Immortality could be someone who had done something and liveson forever in history so therefore it becomes immortal, then you ave the term where it stands for someone or soemthing that cannot die so therefore they are immortal, so many ways to look at it.
I agree, I feel that the person lives on in some shape form or fashion... either in reality or in memory and history.
Immorta: means many things to many people. what i feel it means, someone whos been around though many life times, and seen many things. or anouther word would be an anicent.
Immortality to me means that as long as you are comfortable with who you are nobody can break you down. It also means that you leave an impretion on other people. Leaving your memory.
agree with the person above
and/or
to just die and become apart of something else eg my corpse being magot food and so on. remember energy can not be created or destroyed but it can be transfered
i guess it depends on what kind of immortal vampires are, but i know they can die some how (just my theory)
bring immortal means to me is watching the world revolutionize
In general terms we tend to think of living forever "you cannot die", but if you really look at it living forever doesnt really mean that you cannot die. If you are remembered then you become immortal because you live on in ppls minds.
Immortal to me means strong, courageous and living on in ppls minds and thoughts. To stand out from the ordinary ppl by your deeds.
Then you also have the vampire way of being called immortal because they cannot die...which is wrong because they are already dead. I figure the that is so very wrong, a better understanding is one who cannot come to harm....perhaps.
To me being Immortal or having Immortality is that your soul will live on. Not the human body that we inhabit but the soul inside of us. I do not believe in the body living forever. Because eventually it will start to decay.
I agree immortality is though the soul not through the vessel in which it is currently enslaved in......
Immortal mean always living alone and Watching as your love ones grow old and die and leaving you behind to go on to another love and another death.
Immortal to me would be living through my family in memories after i have passed onto the afterlife. I would want to leave some form of legacy to my friends & family to always keep in their hearts. That way i could always live an immortal life through all of their memories
Immortality does not apply to the body, only the soul. A book who is interested in this concept should read 'Physics of the Soul' by Dr. Amit Goswami. His is a physicist/spiritualist.
To me Immortality doesn't mean living forever, but never being forgotten.
There for you are Immoralized, such as Flad Tepes III.
That is how I feel. I never want to be forgotten I want to make something of myself.
I was taught that the soul would live on forever. And most remember some of their past lives. Though those who have an evil soul are banished into an existence of darkness and solitude.
Immortal to live on forever, doesnt necessary mean not dieing as you can die and be remembered thus being Immortal.
to me it means love that lasts fforever even after death and maybe into the new life you will have if you beleave in reincarnation
Being immortal is a dual meaning for me. Yes it is the archetypical living for ever never able to die.
But I think true immortality is never being forgotten. Being a historical figure that lives on down the centuries and still inspires people to strive for more and be all they can be.
Immortality has different meanings to everyone. Immortality to me is after this world does claim my soul that my name or poetry or some essence of mine will continue to live on.
I believe in the body being the shell. the soul life force being what and who you are. The shell dies, and you do not. You imply take up residence within another shell.
Creating cycles of many different lifes. Each time you return you already have a sense of who you are and where you've been or come from. This is immortality in short form to me.
This sounds hookey, but I think immortality boils down to being remembered; if someone dies and you retain their memory in your heart, and then pass it on before you die, well...maybe only really famous people are immortalized. Just a thought.
i agree with Rabynion, i too think the human body is nothing but a shell, it protects you and helps you live the life that you made for yourself, as well as feel the things that can not be felt through only the soul.
It means to live forever both in body and soul. Flesh lives on and so does the soul. By living forever, one can truly become godlike or better vampire.
immortal means to me means reincarnation into different bodies so the soul will never cease to exist
In the sense of the word "Immortal" can mean many things...
You can be immortal in the sence of the vampire archetype meaning you live on forever and never die.
You can have an immortal legacy, meaning that your artworks, literature, or name lives on after you die.
Your spirit, or essential self can be immortal in the means of spiritual ascension from the plane of the corporeal to the etheric to the astral.
I personally like to think of immortality as the last two points.
the meaning of immortality varies among people so there is no clear meaning of immortality
Immortal means not being subject to the phenomenon of death. It refers to something as being everlasting and never ending. It can mean something that will never be forgotten.Achilles sought immortality based on the strength of his sword arm as he believed that his name would live on forever. Most takes on fictional vampires refer to them as immortal, but even though they are not subject to natural death a vampire can also be killed.
There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,
The earth, and every common sight
To me did seem
Apparelled in celestial light,
The glory and the freshness of a dream.
It is not now as it hath been of yore;--
Turn wheresoe'er I may,
By night or day,
The things which I have seen I now can see no more.
The rainbow comes and goes,
And lovely is the rose;
The moon doth with delight
Look round her when the heavens are bare;
Waters on a starry night
Are beautiful and fair;
The sunshine is a glorious birth;
But yet I know, where'er I go,
That there hath past away a glory from the earth.
Now, while the birds thus sing a joyous song,
And while the young lambs bound
As to the tabor's sound,
To me alone there came a thought of grief:
A timely utterance gave that thought relief,
And I again am strong.
The cataracts blow their trumpets from the steep,--
No more shall grief of mine the season wrong:
I hear the echoes through the mountains throng.
The winds come to me from the fields of sleep,
And all the earth is gay;
Land and sea
Give themselves up to jollity,
And with the heart of May
Doth every beast keep holiday;--
Thou child of joy,
Shout round me, let me hear thy shouts, thou happy
Shepherd-boy!
Ye blesséd Creatures, I have heard the call
Ye to each other make; I see
The heavens laugh with you in your jubilee;
My heart is at your festival,
My head hath its coronal,
The fulness of your bliss, I feel--I feel it all.
O evil day! if I were sullen
While Earth herself is adorning
This sweet May-morning;
And the children are culling
On every side
In a thousand valleys far and wide
Fresh flowers; while the sun shines warm,
And the babe leaps up on his mother's arm:--
I hear, I hear, with joy I hear!
--But there's a tree, of many, one,
A single field which I have look'd upon,
Both of them speak of something that is gone:
The pansy at my feet
Doth the same tale repeat:
Whither is fled the visionary gleam?
Where is it now, the glory and the dream?
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting;
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting
And cometh from afar;
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
Shades of the prison-house begin to close
Upon the growing Boy,
But he beholds the light, and whence it flows,
He sees it in his joy;
The Youth, who daily farther from the east
Must travel, still is Nature's priest,
And by the vision splendid
Is on his way attended;
At length the Man perceives it die away,
And fade into the light of common day.
Earth fills her lap with pleasures of her own;
Yearnings she hath in her own natural kind,
And, even with something of a mother's mind,
And no unworthy aim,
The homely nurse doth all she can
To make her foster-child, her inmate, Man,
Forget the glories he hath known,
And that imperial palace whence he came.
Behold the Child among his new-born blisses,
A six years' darling of a pigmy size!
See, where 'mid work of his own hand he lies,
Fretted by sallies of his mother's kisses,
With light upon him from his father's eyes!
See, at his feet, some little plan or chart,
Some fragment from his dream of human life,
Shaped by himself with newly-learned art;
A wedding or a festival,
A mourning or a funeral;
And this hath now his heart,
And unto this he frames his song:
Then will he fit his tongue
To dialogues of business, love, or strife;
But it will not be long
Ere this be thrown aside,
And with new joy and pride
The little actor cons another part;
Filling from time to time his 'humorous stage'
With all the Persons, down to palsied Age,
That life brings with her in her equipage;
As if his whole vocation
Were endless imitation.
Thou, whose exterior semblance doth belie
Thy soul's immensity;
Thou best philosopher, who yet dost keep
Thy heritage, thou eye among the blind,
That, deaf and silent, read'st the eternal deep,
Haunted for ever by the eternal Mind,--
Mighty Prophet! Seer blest!
On whom those truths rest
Which we are toiling all our lives to find,
In darkness lost, the darkness of the grave;
Thou, over whom thy Immortality
Broods like the day, a master o'er a slave,
A Presence which is not to be put by;
To whom the grave
Is but a lonely bed, without the sense of sight
Of day or the warm light,
A place of thoughts where we in waiting lie;
Thou little child, yet glorious in the might
Of heaven-born freedom on thy being's height,
Why with such earnest pains dost thou provoke
The years to bring the inevitable yoke,
Thus blindly with thy blessedness at strife?
Full soon thy soul shall have her earthly freight,
And custom lie upon thee with a weight
Heavy as frost, and deep almost as life!
0 joy! that in our embers
Is something that doth live,
That Nature yet remembers
What was so fugitive!
The thought of our past years in me doth breed
Perpetual benediction: not indeed
For that which is most worthy to be blest,
Delight and liberty, the simple creed
Of Childhood, whether busy or at rest,
With new-fledged hope still fluttering in his breast:--
--Not for these I raise
The song of thanks and praise;
But for those obstinate questionings
Of sense and outward things,
Failings from us, vanishings,
Blank misgivings of a creature
Moving about in worlds not realized,
High instincts, before which our mortal nature
Did tremble like a guilty thing surprised:
But for those first affections,
Those shadowy recollections,
Which, be they what they may,
Are yet the fountain-light of all our day,
Are yet a master-light of all our seeing;
Uphold us--cherish--and have power to make
Our noisy years seem moments in the being
Of the eternal Silence: truths that wake,
To perish never;
Which neither listlessness, nor mad endeavour,
Nor man nor boy,
Nor all that is at enmity with joy,
Can utterly abolish or destroy!
Hence, in a season of calm weather
Though inland far we be,
Our souls have sight of that immortal sea
Which brought us hither;
Can in a moment travel thither--
And see the children sport upon the shore,
And hear the mighty waters rolling evermore.
Then, sing, ye birds, sing, sing a joyous song!
And let the young lambs bound
As to the tabor's sound!
We, in thought, will join your throng,
Ye that pipe and ye that play,
Ye that through your hearts to-day
Feel the gladness of the May!
What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
And 0, ye Fountains, Meadows, Hills, and Groves,
Forebode not any severing of our loves!
Yet in my heart of hearts I feel your might;
I only have relinquish'd one delight
To live beneath your more habitual sway;
I love the brooks which down their channels fret
Even more than when I tripp'd lightly as they;
The innocent brightness of a new-born day
Is lovely yet;
The clouds that gather round the setting sun
Do take a sober colouring from an eye
That hath kept watch o'er man's mortality;
Another race hath been, and other palms are won.
Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
To me the meanest flower that blows can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.
- William Wordsworth
Immotality is to empty the vessel to achieve knowledge and balance.....and as you are are all so full of S**t...good luck you twerps!
That was very rude. There was no call for that kind of insult.
I started this thread and MasqueradeMistress and I traded profiles.
I apologize to everyone for the last post.
Well, immortality is a difficult topic to discuss since everyone has their own views on what is immortal and what is not.
I agree. But, the topic that I intended was about vampires being immortal. When it is spoken about vampires being immortal, it is their physical mind and body that is being spoken of.
The original idea that I posed was that if the Earth exploded nothing would survive, including vampires. This would also include anything reincarnated and whether or not you would be remembered throughout the ages.
I guess the point of the question is, should we refer to vampires as immortal or something else? Because, in the movies, they do in fact die.
But death in flesh doesn't equal to death in soul. Immortality can also be referred to the soul living on forever even if the flesh dies.
Ok. I am not talking about the spirit/soul of a vampire here.
I am referring to the fact that when vampires are spoken of we automatically consider their mind and body being "immortal."
Like you said, the movies always portray a vampire as an immortal creature that dies in the end. Until we see an actual vampire, there is no way of knowing whether or not vampires are truly immortal. However, if they can live for eternity and their flesh never decays, then we can assume that vampires are indeed immortal.
Ok, then the question becomes...
If there is a real life vampire (whose flesh never decays), can it be killed. And if so, is it truly immortal.
Sorry, there should be two question marks in my last post.
The movies made out the vampires' weak point to be the heart. However, that seems highly illogical because vampires' hearts should stop already since they are between the realm of the living and the dead. The movies make people believe that if you stab a vampire in the heart, they die. However, if the heart was already dead to begin with, how can it be dead for a second time? Unless you try aiming for the head which is a relatively small target compared to the heart, then you could kill the vampire. However, there are many things that we don't understand about vampires such as whether or not they truly have a weak point or did Hollywood lie about everything. If vampires can't be killed, then we can say that vampires are truly immortal.
If their heart doesn't work, then it is safe to assume that none of their organs work. So, what would they need blood for?
Perhaps instinct. Every living creature has a basic instinct to feed. Even though vampires are considered the walking dead, they are still techinally living. I don't know why they need blood, but perhaps they need it to maintain their bodies. Blood might have some healing capabilites for vampires which is why they drink it. Either that or they can't eat anything else. Unless someone turns into a vampire, we have no real way of knowing.
If a vampire is able to be killed then he/she is not immortal in the sense of physicality. But for someone to be able to live eternities and have a history with name sake and be known many centuries for what they may be or what they have done then they are immortal that way. I believe that Vampires can be killed(not that I would ever do so to one) they sustain life through mortal blood and thus not having it they would decay and cease to live (so to speak) But since there is no true evidence on how to kill a vamp or that one truly does exsist having lived for centuries then I agree there is no real way to know
Well the bod , skin, organs all of that needs blood to strive and not decay s the feeding is mainly to just recycle through the body to eep them going, If I was to believe a real vampire lives in this day and age. Do not get mewrong many *LIVE* the lifestyles of Wampirism and that is kool.
And Aizen you post then you posted like 5 times that the describe immortal is hard due to the fact everyone looks at it as a different thing.
not to be rude but, why post that if your still gonna post anyway what your opinion is?
The life of the flesh is in the blood, so the blood is the life. Immortality is the blood that is passed down through generations of decendants that allows your traits to remain in this world. We are all immortal through our spawn and our lives that leave it's mark on the lives of others, even if it is ever so subtle.
It is a rule here we do not disrespect each other and maybe my last post was a bit disrespectful but some of the posts were just like a Winnie the Pooh...and equally full of shit!
It was not intended as such, moreover this crappy vessel is a stop over and that which resides can move.
Whether by solar Flare or Quasar it should have the energy required to do so is a mute point.
Remember that to smash particles and thus reveal the God particle in Switzerland required several power stations...
For just one particle!
So if an entity can move between worlds and vessels...what of that?
You do the Maths....Tfs.X.
mine and my room mates idea of immortal is living in more than one life, having an soul that keeps going from one body to another though you can die.
that is immortal to me
as my room mate said above me- it is being born again with same soul just different body. you never truly die for your soul lives on life after life. that is immortal to me
there have been threads before where people ask about living "forever" and so many say they couldnt stand being immortal.
ive pointed out that being a hollywood vamp isnt immortal as they can die.
you get tired, walk outside and get a suntan.
a true immortal is godlike, and if the earth explodes, they would go on and on.
for those that hate the idea of living a very long life, i wonder why they are still among the breathing anyway.
~W~
however being immortal might have some downfall
You would experiencethe same pain over and over again like not being able to save your loved one from the crutchs of death
torment, dissatisfaction, guilt, and pain will be with you forever and u won't die no matter how much you want to
I feel like that to be immortal means: a state you reach where you can die no more. once you have achieved a mortal or human death, you are then immortal. I also
(personal belief) believe that what you do while you have mortality, decides how you live immortally. So what we choose in this life, basically will determine how we live in eternity.
personal beliefs does shape how you would live your life as an immortal
I don't know I think no one can be remembered forever or ever will be because eventually they forget you. So the only way to be immortal would be through the soul.
Immortality, can refer to various aspects of self and of spirit. EXACTLY which context are you referring to here?
Immortal means to me, that you will never die. You will live forever.
Death in flesh never always mean death in the soul.
when the body is dead, the soul ives on
that is immortality
Immortal --
Look everything dies , immortal is to never be
forgotten .
Think of things like the ol' wild west , Billy the kid or
whatever --
That's true Immortality ////
sounds more like Beowulf to me
as long as his story is told, he will live forever
my idea of immortal is always being known for something you have said or done. As well as reincarnation. I have a few questions about that. but i will post them on a thread.
Immortal in particular doesn't mean can not die. It does mean you will not die from age how ever. Everlasting more so is what it pertains to.
I see Immortal as such myself. Meaning there are ways you can die, but you will not die from old age. I also don't know if someone else has said this I didn't take the time to read all the posts. So sorry if I've just reiterated someone else post. :)
Living on forever through books, pictures, memories or bloodlines
To me Immortal means living on in the memories of loved ones long after you have passed on. Being remembered for who you were. In essence the legacy you have left behind.
Immortal means that when you die, only your spirit lives on.
You are still alive, and never truly die. Just the outer shell
Immortality is not of the physical self, but moreso the spiritual essence that is contained in any given body at any given time. Some cultures believe in reincarnation, while others don't. It's an individual ideology that is the main factor in regards to Immortality.
